[Bug 1949200] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP from error "Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection" in gtk_style_context_init
** Description changed: GNOME Shell isn't meant to use GTK at all, but it's repeatedly crashing in GTK since the introduction of GNOME 40. https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/45d4ce4e8f26828ab6993261e8a20208ecf261b0 https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/e60359af65f32c18a4a6ccc93fd3469b0e675844 https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/73a93ba578f68516e680373ae324db01336e8bad + https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d69ccaf1379f588b04ecac2a6cc93b9be31100b4 This seems to be a result of Xwayland crashing and gnome-shell then trying to recover (and failing). Although gnome-shell shouldn't be using GTK, and Wayland sessions shouldn't be dependent on having an X11 server (Xwayland) available. Fixing either of those should resolve this. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1966860/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1966440] Re: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button
Thanks for looking into this. 'Wayland + nvidia drivers' seems to be very problematic...even with 510 I had to reboot in recovery and edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable wayland and reinstall nvidia 470 to get a working system again. I did enable some PPAs, for hardware like an intel realsense depth camera, just removing the PPAs did not fix the problems. I never enabled the 'proposed' a broken upgrade could be a thing... the dist-upgrade (20.04 >> 22.04) did crash and I had to do 'dpkg --configure -a' and 'apt --fix-broken' or something similar. [Bug 1966870] Re: Focal 20.04.4 5.13.0-27-generic crashing disabling CPUs
I tried things once more, this time OVS wasn't active at all (in the former try it was active after boot and then disabled) - still failing. Next I tried to use a different kernel(5.4.0-105-generic) I don't know when in >5.4 this started to fail, it surely worked a few months ago already using the an HWE kernel back then and running the same tests that now stumbled over this. I usually run with: linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04-edge 5.13.0.27.29~20.04.13 => the one that initially failed And now I cross tested: linux-generic 5.4.0.105.109 => working fine Would it be helpful to you to also get (it is somewhat suspicious that egde is behind non-edge): linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04 5.13.0.39.44~20.04.24 Would there be any other build that I should try helping you to pinpoint this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1966870 Title: Focal 20.04.4 5.13.0-27-generic crashing disabling CPUs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1966870/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
