2022-03-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Same result on sony vaio svp112a1cw (lubuntu jammy daily 20220328.1)

install was good, but on reboot it's mostly [FAILED] Failed to start
Snap Daemon.. final message was [FAILED] Failed to start Failure
handling of the snapd snap.

booted live media again, and mounted to get
/mnt/@/var/log/installer/syslog from internal ssd.

Note - it may not be calamares log I grabbed..

Confirmed! The workaround/fix is:

  sudo apt remove libcanberra-gtk3-module

Also I can't find an active bug tracker for libcanberra and its last
release was in 2012.

** Package changed: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

[Bug 1924251] Re: Embedded browser display corruption under Wayland on Pi desktop

2022-03-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Dave, we believe that webkitgtk is broken on arm64 at the moment, at least the
surf autopkgtest are failing
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/s/surf/jammy/arm64

and the webkitgtk demo browser segfault when started on a canonistack
instance which I reported upstream as
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237636

do you see similar issues on the pi?

[Bug 1949200] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP from error "Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection" in gtk_style_context_init

2022-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

GNOME Shell isn't meant to use GTK at all, but it's repeatedly crashing
in GTK since the introduction of GNOME 40.

  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/45d4ce4e8f26828ab6993261e8a20208ecf261b0
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/e60359af65f32c18a4a6ccc93fd3469b0e675844
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/73a93ba578f68516e680373ae324db01336e8bad
+ https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d69ccaf1379f588b04ecac2a6cc93b9be31100b4

This seems to be a result of Xwayland crashing and gnome-shell then
trying to recover (and failing). Although gnome-shell shouldn't be using
GTK, and Wayland sessions shouldn't be dependent on having an X11 server
(Xwayland) available. Fixing either of those should resolve this.

As far as I know the updated packages are in proposed.

I enabled it yesterday and got them as update. No indicators were
removed only the libappindicator3-1 package.

[Bug 1964547] Re: [apt] Firefox 98 installed from apt cannot Play YouTube

2022-03-29 Thread Olivier Tilloy
From the error messages, the problem seems to be with reading
/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids, rather than loading the driver itself.
What are the permissions on that file? Is an apparmor profile enforced
for firefox?

Not sure whether it is relevant, but due to recent incidents with
breaking some software for IP addresses based Russia, I think I need to
say that upgrade was performed from IP address in Russia.

[Bug 1949200] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP from error "Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection" in gtk_style_context_init

2022-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

GNOME Shell isn't meant to use GTK at all, but it's repeatedly crashing
in GTK since the introduction of GNOME 40.

  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/45d4ce4e8f26828ab6993261e8a20208ecf261b0
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/e60359af65f32c18a4a6ccc93fd3469b0e675844
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/73a93ba578f68516e680373ae324db01336e8bad
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d69ccaf1379f588b04ecac2a6cc93b9be31100b4

This seems to be a result of Xwayland crashing and gnome-shell then
trying to recover (and failing). Although gnome-shell shouldn't be using
GTK, and Wayland sessions shouldn't be dependent on having an X11 server
(Xwayland) available. Fixing either of those should resolve this.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+
+ sudo apt remove libcanberra-gtk3-module
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ 1. Log into a Wayland session.
+ 2. Open a Terminal.
+ 3. $ xrandr # Just to ensure Xwayland starts
+ 4. $ killall Xwayland
+
+ Expected: gnome-shell still responds.
+ Observed: gnome-shell freezes or exits.

Public bug reported:

A number of exclusion rules don't work with aide running on 22.04.

I'll just list two examples here, there's the
/etc/aide/aide.conf.d/31_aide_libvirt-bin and
/etc/aide/aide.conf.d/31_aide_systemd rule files that has a couple of
exclusions.
If I take 31_aide_systemd as an example:

@@define RUNSYSD @@{RUN}/systemd
[...]
!/@@{RUNSYSD}(/(machines|resolve|seats|sessions|shutdown|system|transient|users|ask-password|generator(\\.late)?))?$
 d

This won't take effect for some reason, the resulting aide database file
will in fact include e.g. /run/systemd/machines/*

If I insert an explicit exclusion before everything else however, e.g.
creating a /etc/aide/aide.conf.d/00_exclude file and putting let's say
...

!/run/systemd/machines

... in there, then aide won't include that in the database file.

It might be some innocent ordering issue I presume, but there are a lot
of rule files and the maintainer might have some ideas as to why it's
ordered like that.

In any case, it would be nice if the exclude rules worked - it's not
only the /machines under /run/systemd, it's everything else too, that
was just an example.

I have all the default rule files copied from
/usr/share/aide/config/aide/aide.conf.d to /etc/aide/aide.conf.d.

The release I'm using is
Description:Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch)
Release:22.04

And my aide version is
aide:
  Installed: 0.17.4-1
  Candidate: 0.17.4-1

# Symptoms
When I use 'docker build' command to make a docker image, it starts a
container. But it comes with no log with that container.

$ sudo docker logs -f ad58bfd83a8f
Error response from daemon: configured logging driver does not support reading

I tried to start a container by command 'docker run', and it does have log.
There's no extra configuration in `/etc/docker` directory.
$ ls /etc/docker

Also I tried to check logconfig of each container and system-wide:
$ sudo docker info --format '{{.LoggingDriver}}'
json-file

$ sudo docker inspect -f '{{.HostConfig.LogConfig}}'  4ee82fd32c33
{json-file map[]}

$ sudo docker inspect -f '{{.HostConfig.LogConfig}}'  ad58bfd83a8f

[Bug 1966440] Re: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button

2022-03-29 Thread KaOS-bEat
Thanks for looking into this.

'Wayland + nvidia drivers' seems to be very problematic...even with 510
I had to reboot in recovery and edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable wayland
and reinstall nvidia 470 to get a working system again.

I did enable some PPAs, for hardware like an intel realsense depth camera, just
removing the PPAs did not fix the problems.
I never enabled the 'proposed'
a broken upgrade could be a thing...
the dist-upgrade (20.04 >> 22.04) did crash and I had to do 'dpkg --configure
-a' and 'apt --fix-broken' or something similar. Probably a fresh install is a
good idea...

[Bug 1966440] Re: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button

2022-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes your upgrade is broken:

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04
Package: gnome-shell 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 <-- belongs in Ubuntu 20.04 only

Probably the only sensible solution is to backup your data, wipe the
machine and reinstall. Because trying to guess our way through repairing
the system will take much longer.

[Bug 1966870] Re: Focal 20.04.4 5.13.0-27-generic crashing disabling CPUs

2022-03-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I tried things once more, this time OVS wasn't active at all (in the
former try it was active after boot and then disabled) - still failing.

Next I tried to use a different kernel(5.4.0-105-generic)

I don't know when in >5.4 this started to fail, it surely worked a few
months ago already using the an HWE kernel back then and running the
same tests that now stumbled over this.

I usually run with:
linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04-edge 5.13.0.27.29~20.04.13 => the one that
initially failed

And now I cross tested:
linux-generic 5.4.0.105.109 => working fine

Would it be helpful to you to also get (it is somewhat suspicious that egde is
behind non-edge):
linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04 5.13.0.39.44~20.04.24
Would there be any other build that I should try helping you to pinpoint this?

2022-03-29 Thread Robin Sheat
> 1. Tell us which message you now mean; and

robin@malik:~/Videos$ totem Outrageous\ Fortune\ S04E08.m4v
Gdk-Message: 11:02:22.100: Error flushing display: Protocol error

This result appears pretty much immediately, and no desktop window
opens.

> 2. Follow these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

No crash dump is produced as this isn't a SIGSEV or similar style crash,
more a failing to work so shutting down abort.

> Maybe related?

This looks to me more like a screencast bug rather than a playback bug.

Maybe relevant, I do get slightly different results sometimes. I just
tried it again:

robin@malik:~/Videos$ totem Outrageous\ Fortune\ S04E08.m4v

(totem:3576): GStreamer-GL-CRITICAL **: 11:09:08.153: Failed to flush

(totem:3576): GStreamer-GL-CRITICAL **: 11:09:08.153: Failed to flush
Wayland connection

robin@malik:~/Videos$

i.e sometimes the "Failed to flush" message appears, sometimes it
doesn't.
