[Bug 1964711] Re: [amdgpu] Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked

2022-03-28 Thread Philipp
I’ve done the following things now:

Unsuccessful:

Upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04 to 21.04. This did not solve the issue.

Successful:

Manually uninstall and install the latest amdgpu package from
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-amdgpu-unified-
linux-21-20. Specifically, I downloaded amdgpu-
pro-21.20-1271047-ubuntu-20.04.tar.xz and installed it via the amdgpu-
install binary. This seems to have solved the issue. I reckon there is a
good chance that it was rather uninstalling and reinstalling the driver
than installing a specific version of it, but that I can’t tell with
certainty.

[Bug 1966629] [NEW] swipe up from the button of the touch monitor

2022-03-28 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Public bug reported:

OS: jammy update on 2022/03/28, Wayland mode, tablet or screen keyboard
enable.

Steps:

1. touch gnome-terminal and see OSK
2. hide OSK
3. swipe up from the button of the touch monitor

Expected:

OSK re-appears

Actually:

OSK does not re-appear.

Is this by a design change, or a new bug? On focal, can't reproduce this
issue.

When PSR is enabled it handles DP_SDP_VSC, changing revision and all

[Bug 1964916] Re: [HP Omni 120-2110il AIO] Flickering white lines on screen

2022-03-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In the past when people had trouble with HP all-in-one screens, the
solution was:

 1. Beware! Backup you data! You will likely need to reinstall Ubuntu after
this.
 2. Go into the BIOS and toggle the legacy mode/secure boot settings.
 3. Reinstall Ubuntu.

2022-03-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, that's unsurprising but also inconclusive. I think the goal is
for us to use the built-in amdgpu kernel driver in future.

If you have time then please try:
 * Ubuntu 22.04 (preview) http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ or
 * Newer kernels: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D

pains to not restart the services when performing a package upgrade and
intermittent failure like this sounds like it works when talking to

is a whole major kernel version earlier than we thought.

[Bug 1966593] Re: gnome session locks when disconnecting external screen

2022-03-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1966636] [NEW] [FFe] Update livecd-rootfs to add arm64 bootable buildd images

2022-03-28 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

The merge available here:

https://code.launchpad.net/~saviq/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-
rootfs/+merge/417034

This doesn't affect anything existing, just adds a new architecture for
the bootable buildd images, used through Snapcraft in Multipass. No
impact on Ubuntu.

Having those images will allow Snapcraft to build arm64 snaps with
`base: core22` as soon as that's available.

I've tested the image under Multipass on Apple M1, which will be the
primary beneficiary.

[Bug 1966631] Re: ubuntu on wayland works very slow

2022-03-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It looks like the system can't find a working
graphics driver and so it's using slow software rendering.

Please run:

  lspci -k > lspci.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
  dpkg -l > allpackages.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

no display or keyboard working, about approx. 15 seconds then turn off,
after 2nd press its turn on normally and hp logo appears and starts boot

Re: [Bug 1966519] Re: hard shutdown after close laptop lid

This problem happens every time i close the lid, and i discovered on
ubuntu logo boot sequence that there is this message: press ctrl c to
abort all running filesystem checks in progress, i have no data loss or
corruption of filesystem, i think this is reaction on hard shutdown.

Yes, typo updated

** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

OS: jammy update on 2022/03/28, Wayland mode, tablet or screen keyboard

  Steps:

  1. touch gnome-terminal and see OSK
  2. hide OSK

+ 3. swipe up from the bottom of the touch monitor

  Expected:

  OSK re-appears

  Actually:

  OSK does not re-appear.

Is this by a design change, or a new bug? On focal, can't reproduce this

[Bug 1890141] Re: Can't fullscreen, or windows get automatically un-fullscreened, when using fractional scaling

2022-03-28 Thread Michael
I use 125% Fractional scaling, and if I try to take a screen shot using
the app `Shutter`, if the region is almost the full screen, the screen
goes wonky and keeps switching resolutions, its impossible to screenshot
the area I require. Also VLC can't switch to full screen. Only Chrome
successfully can go full screen, all other apps glitch quite badly.

[Bug 1966642] [NEW] won't rotate back to landscape as come back to laptop mode

2022-03-28 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Public bug reported:

For a 2-in-1 machine, as we flip more than 180 degrees between monitor
and keyboard, then it goes to tablet mode.

In table mode, if the orientation sensor is there, the monitor
orientation will automatically rotate as we rotate the machine.

As we flip the machine back to less than 180 degrees, in most cases, the
user will want the monitor orientation to rotate back to landscape mode.

It's not now per test on jammy update 2022/03/28, Wayland mode.

[Bug 1890141] Re: Can't fullscreen, or windows get automatically un-fullscreened, when using fractional scaling

2022-03-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is about Xorg fractional scaling AFAICS.

Starting in Ubuntu 22.04 at least, everyone should be able to use
Wayland fractional scaling. If anyone here is using Wayland already then
please open a new bug for that.

[Bug 1964916] Re: [HP Omni 120-2110il AIO] Flickering white lines on screen

2022-03-28 Thread Jarvis Yadav
So here's an update,
It seems like I don't have the 'Secure Boot' Option in my bios so I couldn't
test it.
I disabled UEFI devices from my bios and that forced it to use legacy boot
devices only (Sandisk Cruzer Blade in the above video is my bootable pendrive
from which I am installing ubuntu)
Then reinstalled Ubuntu, but still the issues are same..
Here is a video of bug during the installation process-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VMa3WcwaYQ
And here is a video of the startup process-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIZj-oHXCHs

My BIOS doesn't have a direct option to switch to legacy or UEFI mode, so I
disabled UEFI devices to force it to use legacy mode (and that's why there are
not UEFI boot sources in the video above)
In short- Nothing Changed, Everything is the same

[Bug 1856424] Re: please add smbios module to the signed grub2 images

2022-03-28 Thread Nikhil
Hi,

I am following the above thread. I applied the above patch to add the
smbios module on grub 2.04. But even after patch is applied I am not
able to get the module on my grub.

This exercise I did on yocto dunfell.

Can anyone suggest, DO/How we can install this on grub? or what extra we
need to do to access this on my grub 2.04.

Thanks in advance.
Nikhil Sahu

[Bug 1951210] Re: libreoffice help doesn't open in firefox (404 error on file:///tmp/lu417531j7po.tmp/NewHelp0.html)

2022-03-28 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Right, snaps aren't allowed read-access to the host's filesystem in
general but for a few exceptions. One of them is /usr/share/doc, so I'm
wondering whether we could have libreoffice install its HTML
documentation there (e.g. /usr/share/doc/libreoffice/help/), and symlink
/usr/share/libreoffice/help to it.

This would require patching getHelpRootURL().

The problem happens because /usr/bin/cephfs-data-scan is provided by
  ceph-mds in 14.2.11-0ubuntu0.19.10.1~cloud4:

  # dpkg -S /usr/bin/cephfs-data-scan
  ceph-mds: /usr/bin/cephfs-data-scan

However in 15.2.8-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~cloud0 it is provided by ceph-common:

  # dpkg -S /usr/bin/cephfs-data-scan
  ceph-common: /usr/bin/cephfs-data-scan

A quick workaround is to temporarily remove ceph-mds before the upgrade
(dpkg -r ceph-mds) and then perform the upgrade process using apt
install. It will upgrade all packages and reinstall ceph-mds.

[Bug 1964285] Re: hit message "invoke-rc.d: policy-rc.d denied execution of stop" when uninstall open-vm-tools in ubuntu desktop 22.04 daily build

2022-03-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
the new issue you found is known and being worked on here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-notifier/+bug/1964923

For what is left here about the off profile-rc.d it seems you no more can
reproduce it.
If you happen to see/reproduce it again continue to help us solving the open
questions (see above).
Without those resolved (or a reproducer) I think there is nothing that can be
done at the moment.

I'll mark this bug incomplete representing that right now we can't
continue (and also hope it is fixed as you said 24/mar/2022 works), but
please do not hesitate to update and/or re-open if you find more about
this.

[Bug 1966659] [NEW] Minimize-restore animations are stuttery when DING is loaded

[Bug 1927100] Re: Slow file dialogs, open and save

2022-03-28 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for working with us to try and get a test plan for Ubuntu
together.

How about this:

1) I'll accept the package (1.44.1-1ubuntu1.1) into focal-proposed.
2) You test using your Ubuntu VM as best as you can to ensure that the package
hasn't regressed for Ubuntu users.
3) You verify the package fixes your race on Mint as pragmatically you've found
no practical way to test on Ubuntu.
4) If we're good on both verifications, I'll publish the update to
focal-updates.

Does this plan work for you?
