[Bug 1966050] Re: [nvidia] Display content "overflows" when using fractional scaling

2022-03-24 Thread jeremyszu
This issue comes from OEM partner which certifying with Ubuntu 20.04.
We may still need to consider a fix in X for 20.04 or switching to X from gdm
in 22.04.

[Bug 1948748] Re: [MIR] swtpm

2022-03-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI the requested security fixes (see above), the apparmor hardening
(bug 1950631) and the update to 0.6.3 to stabilize all just migrated to
jammy-release (=>
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/swtpm/0.6.3-0ubuntu1).

We should be back to "just" waiting for the security review and
hopefully no major findings.

[Bug 1966178] [NEW] Screen-privacy couldn't work

2022-03-24 Thread Bin Li
Public bug reported:

On ThinkPad X13 it supports 'Privacy Guard', but on jammy the g-c-c
couldn't control it.

From the GUI, I click 'Restrict Viewing Angle' on and off, there are no
change at screen.

From Fn+D, it could let screen change, and the GUI could follow the
changes.

Cause the 5.15.0-23-generic couldn't support it, I used 5.17 mainline

$ cat /proc/acpi/ibm/lcdshadow
status: 0
commands: 0, 1

And after press the Fn + D, the screen display angle changed, and the
content of /proc/acpi/ibm/lcdshadow is changed, and the GUI of 'Restrict
Viewing Angle' is changed between on and off.

Here is the bug for kernel.

2022-03-24 Thread Dminor
There's failures on test-verification with these changes, but there's
failures on test-verification on these tests without the changes as
well, e.g.
https://treeherder.mozilla.org/jobs?repo=try&revision=99fedcc1a058b3377c7def7938d3f27173edaee6
where I added some comments to trigger test-verification on the existing
tests.

Fixing https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1760824 should help
make the tests less flaky. I've tried to improve them a bit as part of
these changes as well.

[Bug 1859899] Re: Please add a ZFS gui

2022-03-24 Thread geole0
Hello

Hello
With the arrival of version 22.04, it is now certain that ZFS is a way to do an
installation.
It seems abnormal to me that gnome-disks keeps saying that ZFS is an unknown
system and doesn't know how to mount it.

Please do the needful quickly.
Do not forget that the partition can be encrypted.

Thanks.

[Bug 1966181] [NEW] ipa-client-install fails on restarting non-existing chrony.service

2022-03-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.10
Package: freeipa-client 4.8.6-1ubuntu6

This is a bug that just doesn't want to die -- the package *really*
should grow an autopkgtest that checks if a basic ipa-client-install
actually works. It's very similar to bug 1890786 except that it now
fails on "chrony.service", not "chronyd.service":

# ipa-client-install --domain cockpit.lan --realm COCKPIT.LAN --principal admin
-W
This program will set up FreeIPA client.
Version 4.8.6

WARNING: conflicting time&date synchronization service 'ntp' will be

The ipa-client-install command failed. See /var/log/ipaclient-install.log for
more information

This also happens if I say "yes" to the NTP question.

Now, the chrony package is indeed rather weird/broken:

| root@x0:~# find /etc/systemd -name '*chrony*' | xargs ls -l
| lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  9 Mar 24 05:54 /etc/systemd/system/chrony.service ->

|
| ○ chronyd.service
| Loaded: error (Reason: Unit chronyd.service failed to load properly,

Again, this is unconfigured and out of the box -- the idea is that FreeIPA
sets up everything and configures NTP/chrony/etc. to listen to the FreeIPA
server.

Purging chrony doesn't really help, though:

| dpkg -P chrony
| # no '*chrony*' files in /etc any more

Exactly the same failure, and it still tries to configure chrony even though
it's not there any more:

[Bug 1890786] Re: ipa-client-install fails on restarting non-existing chronyd.service

2022-03-24 Thread Martin Pitt
This is *still* broken on Ubuntu 21.10 and Debian testing. However, it
is subtly different, I filed bug 1966181 about it.

[Bug 1959995] Re: present: Crash in 'present_scmd_get_crtc' and 'present_flush' (NVIDIA 495.46)

2022-03-24 Thread Mazen Mardini
If you don't like to wait for the patch to be applied, here is what you
can do (for focal):

1. mkdir xorg-server && cd xorg-server
2. git clone -b applied/ubuntu/focal-security
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server
3. cd xorg-server/debian/patches
4. wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1959995/+attachment/5572420/+files/nvidia-495-fix.patch
5. echo "nvidia-495-fix.patch" >> series
6. cd ../..
7. dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc
8. cd ..
9. sudo dpkg -i ./*.deb
10. sudo systemctl reboot

Done. Next you can install newer Nvidia drivers and there shouldn't be
any issues.

Note: This is the patch from
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1275

[Bug 1965676] Re: virt-manager looses connection to virtualization hosts at moderate loads

2022-03-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Thomas,
on one hand let me ask a few questions (below) as the report as-is can't really
be acted on.
on the other hand - even then - this is a topic that does not sound like an
Ubuntu specific problem or fix and therefore more likely will be successful if
deiscussed upstream (https://github.com/virt-manager/virt-manager/issues). If
you happen to file a case there please let us know so that we can track it from
here. If there is a fix coming out of it this will help to fix/backport it to
Ubuntu afterwards.

Ok, after that being said let me start with the obvious questions.
1. You use v3.2 right now, have you seen the same with former (e.g. 2.2.1 in
Focal) or later (4.0 in Jammy) versions as well?
2. What exactly is "moderate load" in your case?
3. could you come up with a step by step reproduction based on clean systems?
For example take two Ubuntu VMs version X, sized with that many CPU/Mem
connected to the same virtual network via Y. Then run a KVM guest on one
like Z, connect to it from the other system. Then run the net-workload X on
the host to simulate the load.
4. what error messages do you get exactly? Are they always the same?

I still agree that this should be landed as-is (cf. comment #18).
Also, I've just sponsored a new version of systemd for Impish, that contains
this plus additional fixes.

[Bug 1966187] Re: crash xorg

2022-03-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1966197] [NEW] Cleaning netplans after removing wireguard interface

2022-03-24 Thread Rahul
Public bug reported:

Hi, I am working on Ubuntu server 20.04 with network manager snap and
wireguard.

I can bring up wireguard interface using:

sudo wg-quick up

I can also bring it down with

wg-quick down

The netplan.io then, creates a yaml in /etc/netplan

When this inerface is deleted, this netplan is not removed.

Also, when i reboot, when i run:

sudo wg-quick up

the netplan creates a new yaml file with a different uuid, instead of
recogonising it already exists.

Due to this the netplan in /etc/netplan folder piles up.

How can I fix this issue?

[Bug 1966181] Re: ipa-client-install fails on restarting non-existing chrony.service

2022-03-24 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hi, chrony.service is masked for some reason? And I can't find
chronyd.service file shipped by any package, so dunno why systemctl
thinks it's available.

There is code to disable chrony in a particular case during uninstall,
but everything should work fine if you have a clean install.

[Bug 1887187] Re: [MIR] nftables

2022-03-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Ok, summarizing the change
Required:
#1 embedded source
=> Done: security said that is ok for them
#2 symbols tracking
=> Done: resolved and improved via bug 1965464

Recommended:
#3 some vague security concerns
=> Done: did not come up in the security review
#4 does not have a test suite that runs at build time, please try to enable
some tests at build time. We're good for now, though, as we have automated
   autopkgtests
 => Open: but not blocking
#5 The distutils package is deprecated
=> Thanks seth for the pointer, that is ok then as it will be resolved and
should be ok a future merge.

Overall, we are good to go now.
There is nothing in seeds or dependency yet, that would be up to you (?Steve
B.?) to update.
Once done it would show up in component mismatches and we can promote it.
Assigning it back to you to be clear.

P.S. are there any follow on actions in packages using iptables to
switch over, if so could they be filed as bugs?

[Bug 1966200] [NEW] [FFe] rustc: Downgrade cargo from Recommends to Suggests

2022-03-24 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'd like to upload a new rustc version (see attached debdiff). In
addition to the obvious security fix, this version would downgrade the
Recommends: cargo to a mere Suggests: for the rustc binary.

The rationale behind the change is that we'd like to promote rustc to
main (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rustc/+bug/1957932
for details) and cargo isn't ready to be promoted.

I expect the impact on the archive to be minimal, as there are only two
direct reverse-dependencies on rustc:

❯ reverse-depends rustc
Reverse-Depends
* cargo
* rust-all

rust-all already has its own Depends: relationship to cargo, and as such
isn't relying on rustc to provide it.

AFAIK our builders don't consider Recommends dependencies, so this
change shouldn't result in build breakages.

My educated guess is that any user that wishes to install Rust and does
*not* follow that community's standard way of doing things (bypassing
system packages) would install rust-all or cargo directly, not expecting
rustc to provide the higher-level tooling.

[Bug 1965002] Re: AWS: Hibernate resume crashes when platform changes

2022-03-24 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-aws/5.13.0-1020.22
kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and
update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the
tag 'verification-needed-impish' to 'verification-done-impish'. If the
problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-impish' to

Regarding the Suggests downgrade, I filed an FFe before uploading:

Regarding the Vendored-Copy field, I opened a discussion on the MIR
rules changes directly as I'd rather have the thing hashed out before
changing the rustc packaging. Be assured though that I will follow up on
it for rustc: https://github.com/cpaelzer/ubuntu-

[Bug 1888184] Re: nagios-nrpe-server-4 is creating incorrect log spam

2022-03-24 Thread Bill McGonigle
> I found a recent post on the nagios support forum but I do not have
permission to access it, from its short description I got that "agents
are falling back to packet version 2 when query an agent in version 4 by
a plugin in version 3"

Googlebot can see it. From there:

"The way the NRPE plugin negotiates the SSL version of the agent does
generate a lot of messages in the remote server but if the checks does
work, you can disable the message by changing the following option in
the nrpe.cfg file to a 1. That should stop all logging for the agent."

It's quite dissatisfying but it seems to say that the plugin's *version
probing logic* causes invalid error messages on the agent, and if you
don't like that you should have rsyslog filter out the invalid error
messages. Not how I would structure the protocol but elsewhere it's
said that commercial nagios is moving to HTTP and deprecating nrpe
protocol so it's unlikely to be fixed.

I wiresharked this for a bit and it does appear that *no* cleartext
traffic is transiting the link. e.g.:

07:14:24.538748 IP 192.168.1.246.39798 > 192.168.1.43.5666: Flags [P.], seq
836:1901, ack 826, win 506, options [nop,nop,TS val 10310092 ecr 4249413257],
length 1065
E..].g@.?.i.
.
.
..+.v."
.&.e1.LW..
..Q..H..$..H
..h...&}...hk.!%./...z..#"..Gq.g...z!Bx..j].m<.0w'C.s..A..P&WFTci.9..
|...E6.d..?..d.5..5...MU..:0.v./...\S.&.X.?);

So I believe it is not falling back to v2 and is actually using v3 with
ssl. One suggestion says to add '-2' to the check_nrpe command but that
seems like really bad advice to me (at least for anywhere where network
security is a consideration).

my config:

ii nagios-nrpe-plugin 3.2.1-2 amd64Nagios Remote Plugin Executor
Plugin
ii nagios-nrpe-server 4.0.3-1 amd64Nagios Remote Plugin Executor
Server

So it appears that upstream is saying to do a workaround and it's
wontfix on their end. Disappointing but not surprising.

[Bug 1966201] [NEW] ruby3.0 probably needs a provides ruby-rexml

2022-03-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
the archive rebuild [1] identified a bunch of ruby dependency issues.
The majority seems to be about ruby-rexml.
For example:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/test-rebuild-20220317-jammy/+build/23342118
"Missing build dependencies: ruby-rexml"

This particular source package was removed back in the day as libruby
provides that now [2].

The old libruby2.7 had
root@i:~# apt-cache show libruby3.0 | grep rexml
  Provides: ... ruby-rexml (= 3.2.3.1)

And the code is still in libruby3.0
root@j:~# dpkg -L libruby3.0 | grep rexml
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/3.0.0/gems/rexml-3.2.5

And also libruby 3.0 actually has
root@j:~# apt-cache show libruby3.0 | grep rexml
Provides: ... ruby-rexml (= 3.2.5)

But only a provides might not be enough:
root@j:~# apt install ruby-rexml
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Package ruby-rexml is a virtual package provided by:
  libruby2.7 2.7.4-1ubuntu4 (= 3.2.3.1)
  libruby3.0 3.0.2-7ubuntu2 (= 3.2.5)
You should explicitly select one to install.
E: Package 'ruby-rexml' has no installation candidate

I'm not entirely sure, do we just also need a replaces ruby-rexml for this -
anything else?
In any case please have a look to reduce the FTFBS in Jammy before release.

[Bug 1966133] Re: /sbin/ip*tables* symbolic links removed when upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04

2022-03-24 Thread Oibaf
This is by design, see /usr/share/doc/iptables/NEWS.Debian.gz :

iptables (1.8.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

All the iptables binaries have been moved away from /sbin to /usr/sbin.
Compatibility symlinks were provided during the Buster release, but they
have been dropped now.
Please make sure your scripts aren't using hardcoded binary paths.
.
Also, please note that iptables is no longer Priority: important. This
means it is not installed by default in every system. It has been replaced
by nftables.
