[Bug 1528921] Re: rsync hangs on select(5, [], [4], [], {60, 0}

2022-02-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
@Miriam - thanks for the check of this case (FYI we are trying to
recheck many old forgotten bugs). Seems this one is a great candidate
for a fix now since we have a testcase, a fix and interested community.

Given this is open for quite some time there is no need to rush it, but
as time permits it would be great to come up with something to get this
case forward.

I agree that it thereby shall go onto our todo list and we will look for
someone to work on it for a backport-try and a PPA for this.

[Bug 1960207] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 LTS: Apply critical git diffs from version 18

2022-02-07 Thread Fabian Lichtenegger-Lukas
Public bug reported:

We are currently using clevis (Version 12) for automatic unlocking our
disks at boot on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and facing serious problems. All
current problems are fixed with version 18.

The following clevis packages are installed on the system:

clevis-luks (12-1ubuntu2.3)
clevis-systemd (12-1ubuntu2.3)
clevis-initramfs (12-1ubuntu2.3)

I am kindly asking if there is any chance of getting the below listed
git diffs included in clevis Debian package for Ubuntu 20.04 Focal or
completely upgrade to version 18?

[Bug 1890248] Re: SRU of mdadm to Focal

2022-02-07 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Thank you Mariusz for the explanation. There is a few 'red/yellow flags'
here right now, but we can continue the discussion. I mean, some bits we
could work-around - like, the lack of a good test automation story -
this for instance could be still accepted taking into consideration your
(Intel's) testing. Since the only thing we want to accomplish with this
requirement is reducing the risk of regressions for existing users, and
any thorough testing might be already an acceptable criteria here.

But then I think the remaining requirements for getting this in would
be: trying to formulate a legitimate reason (rationale) for bumping
mdadm to 4.2 in focal and a list of changes (or at least new features)
added between 4.1 and 4.2. If we can get these in order + maybe get some
insight into what exact testing you, at Intel, perform on mdadm, we can
get the new version into focal-updates.

I assume the most difficult would be the list of feature changes. This
is a requirement as we need to know in advance if there's any changes
that could potentially break existing users and for us to request
additional targeted testing. Maybe we could figure something out here?

2022-02-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1899248 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899248

Hi,
from your logs I see:

A potential config issue seen when apport tried to get files:

MySQLConf.etc.mysql.my.cnf: Error: [Errno 40] Too many levels of
symbolic links: '/etc/mysql/my.cnf'

This is what breaks the upgrade in dpkg:
Error: Unable to shut down server with process id 25907
dpkg: error processing package mysql-server-8.0 (--configure):

According to the error log that could be due to:
2022-02-06T03:54:44.590819Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-011300] [Server] Plugin mysqlx
reported: 'Setup of socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock' failed, can't create
lock file /var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock.lock'

This particular case is a known issue and already being worked on in bug 1899248
I'll mark this one here as a duplicate, please consider participating in that
other bug when there is an ask for testing or such.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1899248

[Bug 1960036] Re: Doesnt regain quorum when tracked process restarts

2022-02-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the report Jason!

This is fixed in:
https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/commit/23a5b8113bf0b8ec4718443df0406882e8e4d831

Which is in 2.1.0 and later as well as in the 2.0.20 backport.

Thereby >=Impish are fixed already:
 keepalived | 1:2.0.19-2ubuntu0.1 | focal-updates| source, amd64,
arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x
 keepalived | 1:2.1.5-0.2ubuntu1.1 | impish-updates | source, amd64,
arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x
 keepalived | 1:2.2.4-0.2 | jammy| source, amd64,
arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x

I'd leave it to Lucas who usually looks after HA bits to decide if we'd want to
go for just fixing this or if we should consider 2.0.20 as a whole for a MRE.
Assigning him for further triaging ...

[Bug 1960036] Re: Doesnt regain quorum when tracked process restarts

2022-02-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
From just a glimpse to me 2.0.20 looks too much of a not-just-fixes release for
an MRE at:
https://www.keepalived.org/changelog.html

But not reaching qorum on some PIDs seems severe.

Therefore I'd suggest to:
- add this to server-next to backport just the fix
- look for someone to work on it this Wednesday.
- Set importance high

@Lucas - please have a look if you agree and if you do set these status
entries as suggested.

@Jason - for an SRU [1] we will also eventually need a testcase. Do you
happen to know if there is some trivial setup plus (I assume) forcing
high pid numbers is enough to test this. If so it would be very useful
to add these "how to test this on a fresh system" steps here.

[Bug 1960210] [NEW] memstream does not add '\0' to buffer using fseek and fflush

2022-02-07 Thread Jan Strater-Büddefeld
Public bug reported:

The man page OPEN_MEMSTREAM(3) says, the buffer and size are updated
each time fflush and fclose are called and that a null byte is
maintained at the end of the buffer. The attached c program shows an
unexpected difference between fflush and fclose if you write to a
memstream and seek to the begin of the stream using fseek. Fflush
doesn't add a new null byte but fclose does.

[Bug 1960212] [NEW] [needs-packaging] thinklmi (userland)

2022-02-07 Thread Jan Dittberner
Public bug reported:

Linux mainline kernels since 5.14 contain sysfs code for the WMI interface
to the BIOS of Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks in
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/drivers/platform/x86/think-lmi.c

The kernel module is already available in the linux-modules-

/lib/modules/5.15.0-18-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/think-lmi.ko
in the 5.15.0-18-generic variant).

There is a small userspace utility to interact with this kernel module

would be helpful to have this available too.

[Bug 1960014] Re: Missing Dutch language interface for LibreOffice in Snap installation

2022-02-07 Thread Peter Roelofsen
This is only an issue for me because Ubuntu now ships LibreOffice as
snap pack by default. I can, of course, download the full version from
the LibreOffice website, including language packs for any interface
languages that I want, and install it, but I'd have to repeat that for
every upgrade of LO. For many people, and for me, that's a bit much.

[Bug 1960220] [NEW] kubuntu's desktop seed should depend on xdg-desktop-portal-gtk for better desktop snaps integration

2022-02-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1753732 (especially
comment #8) for some context.

A number of desktop snaps are GTK apps, and without xdg-desktop-portal-
gtk installed on the host system the theming integration is poor.

ubuntu's desktop-minimal seed has this line:

[Bug 1958228] Re: aufs build is broken on 5.11 kernels

2022-02-07 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
Only a few 5.11 kernels have AUFS config enabled and focal:linux-
hwe-5.11 is not one of them, so the fix cannot be verified with this
kernel. However, this fix has been cherry-picked by focal:linux-
oracle-5.11 and focal:linux-riscv-5.11 by versions which were already
promoted to -updates:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oracle-5.11/5.11.0-1028.31~20.04.1
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-riscv-5.11/5.11.0-1029.32~20.04.1

Therefore I will mark this bug as verified in Focal.

[Bug 1960225] [NEW] Stop idiots like me from installing this package on non-embedded systems

2022-02-07 Thread Martin Burchell
Public bug reported:

Stupidly I installed this package on a regular non-embedded Ubuntu 20.04
installation on a laptop, possibly as a result of a wildcard install
initramfs-tools-*.

This made my installation completely unusable. Booting from any kernel
resulted in the error "The required kernel commandline snap_core is not
set". I spent several days installing Ubuntu and restoring packages and
files from backup and trying to repair my boot partition until I
realised what the problem was.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1390286/ubuntu-20-04-wont-boot-
following-package-install-snap-problem/1390885#1390885

For now, I've used apt-mark hold to stop this being installed. Is there
any way we can stop idiots like me from doing this again in the future?

To me, a package called "foo-ubuntu-core" sounds like something
fundamental to an Ubuntu installation, not specific to an embedded
system.

We know that internally to vmware there is a 12.0 version prepared,
but public github master still is at 11.3.5.

Checking combinations:
11.3.5 as in Jammy - Jammyi (via d/rules): working
11.3.5 as in Jammy - Jammy-proposed (via d/rules): failing
open-vm-tools latest master - Jammy-proposed (autoconf/conf/make): working
tag stable-11.3.5 from git (autoconf/conf/make) - Jammy proposed: working
tag stable-11.3.5 from git (autoconf/conf/make Ubuntu options) - Jammy
proposed: failing

1. Ubuntu build "d/rules build"

2. Upstream build:
autoreconf -i
./configure
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

3. upstream build with Ubuntu options
git clean -x -f -d
autoreconf -i
./configure --without-kernel-modules --with-pic --enable-xmlsec1 --with-gtk3
--enable-servicediscovery --with-fuse=2 CFLAGS="-fPIC
-Wno-error=deprecated-declarations -Wno-error=address-of-packed-member

-fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security"
CUSTOM_PROCPS_NAME=procps
make

I've tried various config options, this issue seems to happen only if
the following conditions align:

1. build against glibc 2.35: 2.35-0ubuntu1
2. LTO is enabled: -flto=auto -ffat-lto-objects -flto=auto -ffat-lto-objects
3. Optimizing with gcc: -O2
4. gcc 11.2.0

This isn't a new or show-stopping issue compared to before, therefore in Ubuntu
we will ignore this particular error for now.
In addition I have reported it upstream to eventually be resolved for real.

@bonej079 I've tried every kernel from the 5.4 line and can confirm that
Creative Live! Cam Sync HD (VF0770) doesn't work on any of them after
5.4.0-91. Once I run the system using 5.4.0-91 it works like a charm so

[Bug 1960213] Re: Kernel Panic on linux-image-5.15.0-18-generic

2022-02-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1960213/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1960185] Re: ruby3.0 pulls in both libruby2.7 and libruby3.0

2022-02-07 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thanks for testing it before the Jammy release, it is appreciated.

This is expected if you did not enable jammy-proposed. The current ruby
dependencies in the release pocket were built against ruby2.7, so even
if you install only ruby3.0 its dependencies will pull in ruby2.7. We
need to make ruby-defaults from jammy-proposed migrate to the release
pocket to sort this out, at the moment, it is blocked by other
transitions happening in the archive. This will be fixed until the end
of this development cycle.

Regarding the ruby 3.1, we will not have time to make a transition of
this size in the short period we have until the Jammy release, so the
plan is to release it with ruby 3.0.

Re: [Bug 1959494] Re: touchpad stopped working hp envy dv6 laptop

Hi,

The reason I raised it as a security issue is because the issue came up
after I connected to public wifi. It resolves itself sometimes but when I
connect to wifi again the cursor freezes up and I have to use a mouse. The
touchpad issue might not be a security risk but I believe it is a symptom
of a breach. Please look into this.

Thanks for the support

[Bug 1953261] Re: kernel >= 5.13 BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference

2022-02-07 Thread Anton Stötzer
Sadly no. When turning the laptop on, there is the info screen with bios
version etc. visible for two seconds. Then the Error Message appears:
„Error: The non-volatile variable storage is about full. Press F1 to
enter Setup.“ At first it was possible to enter BIOS setup and then exit
the setup to continue boot. But after two restarts pressing F1 just
doesn't work anymore. The error screen just stays. The only thing I can
do is power down and startup again to re-arrive at the error screen. I
removed CMOS-Battery for halve an hour. The only thing that changed is
that the error page now additionally shows the line „0271: Real Time
Clock Error – Check Date and Time settings.“ above the line with the
non-volatile error. Still no way to enter BIOS setup or boot from USB.
As mentioned above this happened to two different Thinkpad x131e in
different cities from me and my brother. My second brother could be
warned in time to apply the fix from nix-community while booting was
still possible.

[Bug 1936907] Re: [MIR] ADSys

2022-02-07 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

  [Availability]

Available on all archs, available starting hirsute. It will be
backported to Focal once an FFe has been accepted.

  [Rationale]

We are supporting GPO Active Directory support on ubuntu starting
hirsute. This features allows for an administrator to configure their
Active Directory server to deploy per-machine and per-user
configurations, enforce rules and other domain policies.

- Right now, dconf keys are supported.
+ Right now, dconf keys, sudo administration rights and computer and user
+ scripts are supported.

This feature is built and use the krb5 tickets which are provided by SSSD.
Basically:
  - SSSD is dealing with user and machine registration/authentification and
enforce password policies
  - ADSys is handling GPO enforcement and support. The Ubuntu specific policies
needs to be installed on the Active Directory server (they are contained in the
daemon).

  [Security]

The daemon is started is running as a root user to be able to enforce
machine policies, like rebuilding dconf databases, setting profiles.
User only interacts with the client side (both sides communicates over
GRPC), which can be ran as any user.

Polkit is used to restrain access to some part of the API.

There is a PAM module to build on demand per-user policy once
authenticated with SSSD. They are rejected if the authentication or not
all affected policies could be downloaded.

  [Quality assurance]

Joining a domain in the ubiquity desktop installer makes the machine
joining the AD domain and install adsys functionality. The package will
be seeded directly on the desktop ISO.

- An extensive testsuite (more than 700) is included and available as
+ An extensive testsuite (more than 1k) is included and available as
autopkgtests for rdepends. The whole stack is tested (even the
client/daemon interaction) and coverage is measured (including in the
small python script). However, tests with a real Active Directory server
can only be done manually as there is no setup available in the
  autopkgtests infrastructure.

  [Dependencies]

Main dependencies are libsmbclient, python3 (an embeeded script allows,
via samba, connecting to AD LDAP) and SSSD/KRB5.

This is a Go package, and all dependencies are vendored, and versions
are controlled via go.mod. We are using dependabot (from Github) to
automatically get notified of any dependencies updates (and security
issues), which opens a PR, rebuild and run all tests to report it there.
We are thus able to quickly merge them.

  [Standards compliance]

Standard debhelper packaging, including a systemd service.

  [Maintenance]

The desktop team will maintain it.

  * we commit to test no-change-rebuilds triggered by a dependent
library/compiler and to fix any issues found for the lifetime of the release
(including ESM when included)
  * we will provide timely testing of no-change-rebuilds from the security
team, fixing the rebuilt package as necessary
  * we commit to provide updates to the security team for any affected
vendored code for the lifetime of the release (including ESM when included)
  * we will provide timely, high quality updates for the security team to
sponsor to fix issues in the affected vendored code

-
  [Background information]

  ADSys is composed of:
  - a daemon, named adsysd, running as root. This one will shutdown after a
period of inactivity without any active request. It is socket activated.
  - a client, named adsysctl (which is a symlink to adsysd and only differ
behavior from its executable name), which is running as the user (or root on
boot for machine update). This ones optionally wakes up adsysd, connect through
an Unix socket with SO_PEERCRED to communicate current user running the
process. We are using grpc to communicate between the client and service.

Each client request is validated through polkit, matching user name and
permissions. The daemon will reject any unauthorized client connections.
Note that all actions are always performed from executing the client,
even the scheduled one by a cron.

Our postinst script do need to run python code, so if we cannot run the

fwupd-amd64-signed-template / fwupd-unsiged-dev. Plus the fwupd-signed
that's created latter.

I don't know much about how exactly binary copy between series works. I
think we need to copy binary pkg: fwupd-signed, fwupd-unsiged and fwupd-
unsigned-dev as minimal.

Because:

fwupd build-dep on fwupd-unsigned-dev
fwupd-unsigned-dev depends on fwupd-unsiged.

Btw, I once thought that we did that on fwupd-signed before, but check
the fwupd-signed efi binary in focal and impish, they have different
md5sum, which means they are not the same binary. Not sure if should do
that this time.

If we are not going to do binary deb copy from jammy back to impish and
focal, then we need fwupd-signed source pkg for impish and focal.

[Bug 1413664] Re: 15.04: consider enabling CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_SPLIT and package the .dwo files

2022-02-07 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

There is a new more efficient debug format enabled via
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_SPLIT, this spits out new .dwo files which need
packaging in the .ddeb before we can enable this. Evaluate whether the
other tooling we have will handle it before doing so.

[Bug 1878601] Re: Merge nfs-utils from Debian experimental for 22.04 - version in Ubuntu is *very* old

2022-02-07 Thread Andreas Hasenack
> Thank you for your efforts on this.

Thanks, but just to be clear, this is mostly Debian work. I'm just re-
applying our specific ubuntu changes on top of that, where I deem still
appropriate.

Thanks for testing the packages I built so far. I'll work on getting a
PR up for ubuntu shortly, without the migration path yet.

[Bug 1953261] Re: kernel >= 5.13 BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference

2022-02-07 Thread Anton Stötzer
I could imagine that this error potentially also affects other Thinkpad
models. Of course if they have a larger NVRAM it will take longer for
the dump files to fill it up. Maybe even weeks if only a few dump files
are generated with each restart. At least some newer models like the X1
Yoga seem to have a firmware option to clear the storage if full: See
Hardware Maintenance Manual page 45

[Bug 1960226] Re: Ubuntu Jammy Desktop fails to boot after install

2022-02-07 Thread Julian Andres Klode
You have already left grub at this point and the kernel also started.

Reassigning to systemd in the meantime to debug this further as a
userspace boot issue. This might need further reassing.

You'll have to boot this verbosely, it's no use with a splash screen
enabled.

** Package changed: grub2 (Ubuntu) => systemd (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1960233] [NEW] Firmware update doens't show any feedback

2022-02-07 Thread luca moscato
Public bug reported:

Environment: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on Dell Latitude

When Ubuntu Software tells me about a firmware update available (see
picture attached) I can click on update button to apply it.

Actual results
Firmware update disappear for a second and then re-appear without any message,
like no action took place

Expected results
We all know that the firmware is loaded somewhere in the system and during the
following reboot (at least on my Dell) the BIOS update is applied. But at least
I'd expect that the upgrade option doesn't re-appear immediately after the
click on the upgrade button and a message like: the firmware will be applied at
the next reboot.
Reboot now - Reboot later

I personally think that there will be three things to do to improve UX of the
process (and improve security)
- The operation should be done with admin permission, no admin password has
been requested
- The firmware notice should disapper after the click on upgrade button
- A message should alert the user that the new BIOS has been installed and will
be applied at the next reboot

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: bios firmware software

** Attachment added: "Generic image about firmware update"

[Bug 1959581] Re: OCFS2 intermittently not mountable on a second Node in Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

2022-02-07 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hi Norbert,

Hm, interesting. I am not entirely sure what causes this (race?)
condition given the kernel upgrade didn't fix this. But this is still
not very clear where the problem is. As you noted, this is rather a very
difficult problem to run into and requires the infra that I/we don't
have access to. :/

Since Oracle (upstream) declined this, it gives us three plausible causes:
1. Either it happens due to a local issue or misconfiguration of some sort. But
this doesn't look very likely at the moment.
2. This is maybe a kernel bug (somehow?), irrespective of upgrading/et al.
3. There is some sorta regression in 20.04 due to updates or something that is
causing this. To verify that, I'd ask if you can maybe try to reproduce this in
21.10 (Impish Indri), please?

Either way, I'll defer this to Sergio once since he might know more
about this than I do. :)
