2021-11-30 Thread maxroby
Checking apt logs, it's since

bluez:amd64 (5.60-0ubuntu2, 5.60-0ubuntu2.1)

update that is working.

OK. Usually security updates don't change behaviour visibly, but it's
understandable if *sometimes* they do.

** Package changed: ubuntu => bluez (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1928075] Re: Segfault with qemu-aarch64-static doing debootstrap for debian bullseye but not buster

2021-11-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
After being set up in the broken way we can run the test more quickly

$ sudo chroot /home/ubuntu/bullseye-arm64 /bin/sh /debootstrap/debootstrap
--second-stage
$ tail -n 1 /home/ubuntu/bullseye-arm64/debootstrap/debootstrap.log

This is repeatable and will as last line contain:
good case:
 duplicate value for 'Package' field
bad case:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

That can be used in a git-bisect script,

Due to "fix_binary" in binfmt we need to replace the interpreter after build.
Otherwise it will use the installed one even if overwriting the file in /usr.
#once
$ sudo update-binfmts --unimport qemu-aarch64

Then on each loop:
$ sudo update-binfmts  --remove qemu-aarch64
/home/ubuntu/qemu-aarch64-static.test
$ sudo update-binfmts --install qemu-aarch64
/home/ubuntu/qemu-aarch64-static.test --magic
'\x7f\x45\x4c\x46\x02\x01\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x02\x00\xb7\x00'
 --mask
'\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\x00\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xfe\xff\xff\xff'
 --fix-binary yes --credentials yes
$ sudo update-binfmts  --display  qemu-aarch64

Checking if v5.0 and v4.2 behave as expected - with the above they do
(one works, one fails)

Started bisect and will come back later ...

That's correct. The Thunderbird issue is not fixed yet in any Ubuntu

[Bug 1848831] Re: Intel WiFi AX200 [8086:08b1] subsystem [8086:4070] firmware loading error resulting in no wifi

2021-11-30 Thread Eric Ackermann
I have the same problem with a M.2 AX200 card installed in a laptop running
Ubuntu 20.04, with kernel 5.11.0-40-generic.
I noticed that the WiFi works fine when I force the driver to load the firmware
"iwlwifi-cc-a0-48.ucode" by renaming newer versions of this file, and this also
worked with previous kernel releases.
After every update of linux-firmware, however, the renamed files are replaced
and the WiFi starts crash-looping again.
Thus, I am confident that the issue is specific to the newer firmware releases
for the AX200:
- iwlwifi-cc-a0-55.ucode
- iwlwifi-cc-a0-59.ucode
- iwlwifi-cc-a0-63.ucode
Does anyone know what was changed in these firmware revisions?

For reference, here is the error message printed when iwlwifi-cc-a0-55.ucode is
loaded. It repeats over and over until I delete the aforementioned firmware
file:

commit 6fd5944980f4ccee728ce34bdaffc117db50b34d
Author: Richard Henderson
Date: Fri Jan 17 13:02:45 2020 -1000

linux-user: Reserve space for brk

With bad luck, we can wind up with no space at all for brk,
which will generally cause the guest malloc to fail.

This bad luck is easier to come by with ET_DYN (PIE) binaries,
where either the stack or the interpreter (ld.so) gets placed
immediately after the main executable.

In Debian unstable, we recently switched bash to be a PIE-compiled
binary (for hardening). Unfortunately this resulted in bash being broken
when run under qemu-user (for all target architectures, host being amd64
  for me).

  $ sudo chroot /srv/chroots/sid-i386/ qemu-i386-static /bin/bash
bash: xmalloc: .././shell.c:1709: cannot allocate 10 bytes (0 bytes allocated)

bash has its own malloc implementation based on sbrk():
  https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/bash.git/tree/lib/malloc/malloc.c

When we disable this internal implementation and rely on glibc's malloc,
then everything is fine. But it might be that glibc has a fallback when
sbrk() is not working properly and it might hide the underlying problem
  in qemu-user.

This issue has also been reported to the bash upstream author and he
suggested that the issue might be in qemu-user so I'm opening a ticket here.
Here's the discussion with the bash upstream author:
  https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2018-02/threads.html#00080

You can find the problematic bash binary in that .deb file:

http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20180206T154716Z/pool/main/b/bash/bash_4.4.18-1_i386.deb

The version of qemu I have been using is 2.11 (Debian package qemu-user-
static version 1:2.11+dfsg-1) but I have had reports that the problem is
reproducible with older versions (back to 2.8 at least).

Here are the related Debian bug reports:
  https://bugs.debian.org/889869
  https://bugs.debian.org/865599

It's worth noting that bash used to have this problem (when compiled as a PIE
binary) even when run directly but then something got fixed in the kernel and
now the problem only appears when run under qemu-user:

SDL now I'll close this bug as incomplete (even though as stated in
comment 23 it isn't a real fix to the issues in the GTK backend for this
particular use case).

[Bug 1952720] [NEW] apt uses proxy in order to access local resources

2021-11-30 Thread David Laštovička
Public bug reported:

apt uses proxy in order to access local resources. This leads to errors
when the proxy is configured to allow only access to the resources that
apt is actually expected to be trying to reach.

Steps to reproduce:

- In VirtualBox install Ubuntu 21.10, Minimal installation.
- In Terminal run:
  sudo apt install squid-deb-proxy squid-deb-proxy-client
  sudo apt update

After the last step, apt is trying to use the installed squid-deb-proxy,
but it fails, because the proxy is configured to allow access only to
the mirrors, but apt is trying to use it also to access the locally
available keys.

As a workaround, the proxy configuration can be changed to accept any
connection:
in /etc/squid-deb-proxy/squid-deb-proxy.conf replace the line:
'http_access deny !to_archive_mirrors'
with
'http_access allow all'
run 'sudo systemctl restart squid-deb-proxy'
Now, 'sudo apt update' will succeed.

While what I managed to "correct" the issue by amending squid-deb-proxy
configuration, I believe that it is a bug in apt that uses the proxy
when not appropriate.

The output of the failing sudo apt update (with IP addresses "anonymized"; the
address 2a03:687:4ea:4900:fe9f:937c:3487:4cd3 is supposed to be the IP assigned

If the problem does still happen after that then please try:

If that solves it then the problem is

2021-11-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You appear to have an extension enabled that will impact performance:

  'drawonyourscr...@abakkk.framagit.org'

so please start by uninstalling that and to be sure also run:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again.

If the problem still happens after that then while it is happening
please run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

PPAs in bug 1749393 which fix a very similar issue on arm64. There it was
reproducible and we could identify the fix.
Maybe it is the same fix for you even if no one else could re-create your case
exactly.

It would be great if you could give these builds (or the version once
completely SRUed) a try and let us know if this also fixed the case for
you.

[Bug 1950363] Re: Nov 2021 security update tracking bug

2021-11-30 Thread Kevin Liao
Hi all, I want to ask one question.

For CVE-2021-23192, I saw from samba website
(https://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2021-23192.html) that it
affects only samba 4.10.0 and later. Because what bionic used is samba
4.7.6. Can I say that bionic is not affected by this single CVE? Thanks.

[Bug 1929926] Re: [UBUNTU 21.10] qemu: target/s390x: Fix translation exception on illegal instruction

2021-11-30 Thread Paride Legovini
I understand you want to stage this fix in Hirsute via block-proposed as
by looking at Hirsute alone the benefit/cost of the SRU is not high
enough, still doing this will mean that there will be a (small)
regression for users upgrading from Focal to Hirsute.

OTOH if we look at Focal and Hirsute *together*, given that we have a
Focal SRU to piggyback, then I think the overall benefit/cost of
releasing this fix to both the releases is acceptable, even without
staging the Hirsute SRU.

I'd lean towards not staging, but this is up to you and the SRU team.

[Bug 1952733] [NEW] Add Dell Privacy Mic Mute Key mapping for another Dell machine

2021-11-30 Thread Andy Chi
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Dell introduces new function called Dell Privacy, it utilizes
hardware mute to control audio and camera. The commit map the reported
key event to mic mute for making userspace can work as before, "Mic
Mute" dialog pop-up while the mic mute button is pressed.

[Test Plan]

 * Use a Dell machine, which has Dell privacy function, and press mic mute key.
GUI will pop up "Mic Mute" icon.

[Where problems could occur]

 * This change adds key event mapping in hwdb, which won't impact other
hardware.

any regression would likely cause problems with key(s) from the
specific dell kb matching the modified listing in the hw db.

[Other Info]

 * This change has been verified on Dell machine.

[Bug 1945812] Re: librabbitmq: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-11-30 Thread Simon Chopin
Just retried the patch in a new build against -proposed, it worked fine.
I'm guessing the previous failure was due to a dependency that wasn't
compatible with OpenSSL 3 at the time, or just that -proposed was broken
at the time?

In any case, I've refreshed the version in
https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/test-ppa/+packages which
has now picked up the OpenSSL 3 present in -proposed, and am officially
looking for a sponsor :)

[Bug 1952738] [NEW] component mismatch: exim4 (main) depends on src:libspf2 (universe)

2021-11-30 Thread Paride Legovini
Public bug reported:

Debian exim4 >= 4.95~RC0-1 depends on src:libspf2 via a new Build-
Depends on libspf2-dev, which also results in new binary dependencies.
That's a C library implementing SPF [1].

The change closes Debbug #528344 [2] which is a decade-old request for
adding SPF support to exim4 via that library. Up to now implementing SPF
in exim4 has been possible using the spf-tools-perl package (in
universe, but not a dependency). This is now replaced by linking to
libspf2; the mechanism is clearly visible in the commit implementing the
change [3].

After discussing the issue with the team, we decided to revert the
change [3] in Ubuntu for now.

Rationale:

* Linking against the library doesn't provide a clear advantage over using the
external query tool from spf-tools-perl. I imagine the issue is performance,
but this is not clearly stated. In other words, a compelling reason for a MIR
is missing.
* The status of the upstream project is not entirely reassuring. The latest
publicized release is from 2013 [4]. Issues are mostly unanswered, including
one requesting to cut a release including a fix for a CVE [6]. (A newer release
has been tagged in git, but not announced anywhere, and the issue is still
open. Note: the CVE is fixed in Debian via a security NMU.)
* The latest upload from the Debian Maintainer is from 2016.
* We didn't really have requests for enabling libspf2 in exim4 in Ubuntu.

This why we prefer not to MIR libspf2, at least for now, but we're fully
open on re-discussing this decision, now or in the future.

[Bug 1952720] Re: apt uses proxy in order to access local resources

2021-11-30 Thread David Laštovička
This is not a local configuration issue. Please see the steps to
reproduce: besides the 'sudo apt install squid-deb-proxy squid-deb-
proxy-client' there is no additional configuration present.

The issue is not in "how your proxy configuration will interact with
your sources.list" but in "apt using proxy in order to access local
resources on the machine where apt is installed", it is not an access to
whatever in sources.list that triggers the errors, but an attempt to
access localhost through the proxy.

[Bug 1952738] Re: component mismatch: exim4 (main) depends on src:libspf2 (universe)

2021-11-30 Thread Paride Legovini
** Description changed:

  Debian exim4 >= 4.95~RC0-1 depends on src:libspf2 via a new Build-
Depends on libspf2-dev, which also results in new binary dependencies.

  Rationale:

  * Linking against the library doesn't provide a clear advantage over using
the external query tool from spf-tools-perl. I imagine the issue is
performance, but this is not clearly stated. In other words, a compelling
reason for a MIR is missing.
- * We didn't really have requests for enabling libspf2 in exim4 in Ubuntu.
+ * We don't really have requests for enabling libspf2 in exim4 in Ubuntu.

This why we prefer not to MIR libspf2, at least for now, but we're fully
open on re-discussing this decision, now or in the future.

[Bug 1952251] Re: can't upgrade tp ubuntustudio 21.4 , can; t fing these files :

2021-11-30 Thread Paul White
If this is still an issue and you have not been able to resolve your
problem please try changing your settings to download from the 'Main'
server rather than from the debian.charite.de mirror in Germany.

I don't use Kubuntu but in Ubuntu you can do that in the 'Software &
Updates' application.

Does that help?

[Bug 1952741] [NEW] Please RM for lack of OpenSSL 3 support

2021-11-30 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Please remove cfengine3 from Jammy, as it fails to build against OpenSSL 3.0
with no trivial fix available, see
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cfengine3/3.15.2-3build1

Upstream is aware of the issue but hasn't succeeded in coming up with a fix of
their own so far:
https://tracker.mender.io/browse/CFE-3798
https://github.com/cfengine/libntech/pull/155

The issue has been reported in Debian:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=990369

The package has no reverse-dependencies that I could find:
❯ reverse-depends src:cfengine3
No reverse dependencies found

❯ reverse-depends -b src:cfengine3
No reverse dependencies found

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1952720] Re: apt uses proxy in order to access local resources

2021-11-30 Thread David Kalnischkies
apt contacts the squid proxy (which is on your local machine) hence the ipv6
from your machine. The "Forbidden" is the reply from the proxy for the request.
squid-deb-proxy hardcodes an allowlist for mirrors and sources to contact and
ips that can contact the proxy. I would presume that either (or both) does not
match with your reality (anymore) and hence denies the request. You actually
confirmed this already by disabling the checks in the config which resulted in
it working (again).
As apt works as it should be here, reassign to the suqid-proxy package.

[Bug 1952744] [NEW] Please remove from Jammy

2021-11-30 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Please remove gatling from the Jammy archive, as the package FTBFS since
Impish, which blocks the OpenSSL 3 transition:

https://people.canonical.com/~ginggs/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20210927-impish-impish.html
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gatling/0.13-6.1build1

This is a leaf package without reverse-dependencies that I could find:

❯ reverse-depends src:gatling
No reverse dependencies found
❯ reverse-depends -b src:gatling
No reverse dependencies found

I was unable to find any public bug tracker or development mailing-list
for gatling. The Debian package lags behind upstream significantly (0.13
was released in 2012, current upstream is 0.16 release in 2020).

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1952720] Re: apt uses proxy in order to access local resources

2021-11-30 Thread David Laštovička
I attach my /etc/squid-deb-proxy folder which might be relevant for the
squid-deb-proxy team (although I didn't change these configuration
files, it is just as it is after installing the squid-deb-proxy
package).

In my opinion, the relevant part of the configuration is in:
autogenerated/mirror-dstdomain.acl file containing lines:
.archive.ubuntu.com
security.ubuntu.com

That in my opinion covers the lu.archive.ubuntu.com as well as
security.ubuntu.com in my sources.list, and I still consider it as a
problem in apt. Yet, thank you for looking into that.

[Bug 1719354] Re: apparmor blocking smbd which is in complain mode

2021-11-30 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Since these samba profiles are experimental, not enabled by default, and
even when enabled by the user, are loaded in "complain" mode, I don't
think it's worth fixing for stable releases of Ubuntu.

Furthermore, they come from the src:apparmor package, not samba, and
that's a risky update for such a small reason. The risk to benefit ratio
is not in favor for this update.

For Jammy (current Ubuntu development release), I filed
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1952242 and I
will commit there most of the needed changes, leaving just the net_admin
one out.

Xenial is EOL, so nothing to be done there.

If you want to address this in Bionic yourself, I suggest this patch for
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.smbd:

David Kalnischkies: I confirm this statement: "apt contacts the squid
proxy (which is on your local machine) hence the ipv6 from your
machine".

After testing it in a real network on distinct computers, the IP address
is indeed not apt's address but squid-deb-proxy's address.

Yes, the patch was only accepted yesterday. Not an expert regarding

I'm wrong, which could very well be the case)

[Bug 1930955] Re: Login message for wrong password

2021-11-30 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can
learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.

With no information relating to the flavour or release of Ubuntu that
you are using it is very unlikely that your issue will ever be addressed
by an Ubuntu developer while your bug report remains assigned to the
Ubuntu project rather than a specific Ubuntu package - please refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage for help in assigning the
correct package.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. We are sorry that we do not
always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely
manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time. Your problem may have been fixed with
some of the updates.

Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy) reached end-of-life on July 22, 2021.

You need to install or upgrade to a supported release of Ubuntu. If you
then find the bug is still present please add a comment here telling us
which new version it is in and change the bug status to New.

[Bug 1952720] Re: squid-deb-proxy squid-deb-proxy-client do not work out of the box

2021-11-30 Thread David Laštovička
I have amended issues' subject and description by removing possibly
wrong assumptions about apt, and incorrect description of the IP
address.

** Description changed:

- apt uses proxy in order to access local resources. This leads to errors
- when the proxy is configured to allow only access to the resources that
- apt is actually expected to be trying to reach.
+ In my understanding, squid-deb-proxy and squid-deb-proxy-client are
+ supposed to be fully autoconfigured. Yet, their installation on a plain
+ Ubuntu produces errors when apt is launched.

  Steps to reproduce:

  - In VirtualBox install Ubuntu 21.10, Minimal installation.
  - In Terminal run:
- sudo apt install squid-deb-proxy squid-deb-proxy-client
- sudo apt update
+   sudo apt install squid-deb-proxy squid-deb-proxy-client
+   sudo apt update

After the last step, apt is trying to use the installed squid-deb-proxy,
- but it fails, because the proxy is configured to allow access only to
- the mirrors, but apt is trying to use it also to access the locally
- available keys.
+ but it fails. This behaviour I confirmed also in a local network on
+ distinct computers (squid-deb-proxy on one computer, squid-deb-proxy-
+ client another).

As a workaround, the proxy configuration can be changed to accept any
connection:
  in /etc/squid-deb-proxy/squid-deb-proxy.conf replace the line:
  'http_access deny !to_archive_mirrors'
  with
  'http_access allow all'
  run 'sudo systemctl restart squid-deb-proxy'
- Now, 'sudo apt update' will succeed.
+ Now, 'sudo apt update' will succeed, but obviously my "solution" is not
correct.

- While what I managed to "correct" the issue by amending squid-deb-proxy
- configuration, I believe that it is a bug in apt that uses the proxy
- when not appropriate.
-
- The output of the failing sudo apt update (with IP addresses "anonymized";
the address 2a03:687:4ea:4900:fe9f:937c:3487:4cd3 is supposed to be the IP
assigned to the machine where the apt client is running):
