[Bug 1906266] Re: After upgrade: "libvirt.libvirtError: Requested operation is not valid: format of backing image %s of image %s was not specified"

2021-06-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I have rebased and finalized the MP for this:
https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+git/libvirt/+merge/395778
This is now open for review by the Team.

Furthermore I have opened a new PPA to have up-to-date test builds.
new PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4591/+packages

@Alex - we will need a proper SRU Template and I could only talk about
the patch, but not to much about the testing. I'd appreaciate if you
could add an SRU template
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template) to the
bug description.

[Bug 1927925] Re: Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

2021-06-25 Thread Roland Sommer
The current kernel was started using the kernel parameter, speeds where
fine. I did hibernate, restart the laptop, and now network was broken.

I did another reboot afterwards, booting clean with kernel parameter but
now network connectivity is still broken.

I am not able to spot the system behind all this. Sometimes the
behaviour is predictable, sometimes it seems completely random.

[Bug 1933637] [NEW] Installer crashed(Executing 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed)

2021-06-25 Thread Bal Krishna Jha
Public bug reported:

The installation was going quite smooth. I'm dual-booting with Windows.
I had created three partition

/boot - ext4 - 2GB
/ - ext4 - 400GB
swap - 4GB
EFI System Partition - 100MB

For the rest of the steps, I was choosing default options.

I was recording the whole installation process. Let me know if any other
piece of information is required. :)

[Bug 1931442] Re: Fujitsu U7311 I219-LM wired onboard slow RX speeds

2021-06-25 Thread Daniel Barta
No it does not, tried to go from 1500 to 9000 and then to 1300 and 1000.
No change at all. Only if i start TX from the LAN interface, then RX is
working as expected. As soon as TX stops, RX comes to crawl. I have
attached iper3 log to show this. The times when speed is in MBits is
when i started iperf3 on another port in TX direction from laptop. Thank
you.

[Bug 1933616] Re: impish-desktop-amd64 25062021 test installation failed

2021-06-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1933616

ie. try and boot the daily again on the same box, open a terminal
(konsole) and run apport-collect (try kubuntu is fine).

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Thank you for helping make Kubuntu better :)

[Bug 1933547] Re: tpm driver causes non-fatal kernel crash on boot

2021-06-25 Thread Ivan Hu
The kernel seems try to set up the interrupt and send data, but failed.
After got error returned, the kernel will disable interrupt and using polling
instead.

I beleve it will have the following messages in dmesg log
kernel: tpm tpm0: tpm_try_transmit: send(): error -62
kernel: tpm tpm0: [Firmware Bug]: TPM interrupt not working, polling instead

The call trace seems from the patch which add the checking for the invalid

[Bug 1931497] Re: Patch To Fix Bug in the Linux Block Layer Responsible For Merging BIOs

2021-06-25 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
groovy' to 'verification-done-groovy'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-groovy' to 'verification-failed-
groovy'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 1768609] Re: can't add KDE apps to GNOME dock

2021-06-25 Thread Johannes Kalliauer
The user can make a workaround, by using the .desktop the same
as the `WM_CASS` (returned by the command `xprop`).

e.g.
- for Doplin use `dolphin.desktop`
- for JabRef use `org.jabref.gui.JabRefMain.desktop`

[Bug 1929657] Re: [Ubuntu 20.4.2] vLan not getting static IP assigned (on s390x)

2021-06-25 Thread Lukas Märdian
Thank you! The core problem still is that systemd-networkd does not find
any .link and .network file for the enP53p0s0.171 interface, that's why
it cannot apply any configuration (IP address):

> ? 9: enP53p0s0.171
> Link File: n/a
> Network File: n/a

This might very well be related to the additional
/etc/systemd/network/10-enP53p0s0.link, which is now gone and apparently not
needed (good!) – leave that away.
Still the configuration/match of that file might still be loaded into the
running udev, so we must somehow reset udev to a clean state. I'd like to ask
you for another test run (and potential reboot of that machine – if that is
possible?):

# try to reload udev at runtime
udevadm control --reload; udevadm trigger; udevadm settle
# wait a bit
sleep 30
# apply netplan configuration
netplan --debug apply
# wait a bit
sleep 30
# check results
networkctl status enP53p0s0.171 --no-pager
ip a

If the IP is still not set, could you please try to reboot the machine and
check "networkctl" afterwards?

[Bug 1933642] [NEW] mlx-bootctl: Fix exclusion issues around arm_smccc_smc

2021-06-25 Thread Shravan Kumar Ramani
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification:

[Impact]
Exclusion is being handled around arm_smccc_smc() only in the store functions.
It should be implemented in the show functions also as this call might not be
thread-safe.

[Fix]
Add mutex_lock/unlock around arm_smccc_smc calls in the show functions.

[Test Case]
Multiple simultaneous accesses to a sysfs entry exposed by the driver are
successful.

[Regression Potential]
Can be considered minimum

[Bug 1933118] Re: Screen freeze

2021-06-25 Thread Tony Beaumont
As requested I am adding the output from journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

Just to add some further info:

* I reinstalled my Ubuntu system yesterday back to the same version (my wifi
and bluetooth were not working and I could find no way to get them back, so
this freeze has happened with a standard install of 20.04 LTS downloaded and
installed yesterday afternoon and otherwise is working normally.
* The freeze happened immediately after I installed and used Microsoft Teams
(64 bit). That might be a coincidence.
* The freeze often happens as I move the mouse from my external monitor to my
main (laptop) screen.

[Bug 1933118] Re: Screen freeze

2021-06-25 Thread Tony Beaumont
And it occurred a second time, just a few minutes after I posted the
previous message. in case it is useful, I attach the output from dmesg
created while the UI was frozen, also the Xorg.log and another copy of
the output from journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

Again the freeze corresponded with a movement of the USB external mouse.

[Bug 1929657] Re: [Ubuntu 20.4.2] vLan not getting static IP assigned (on s390x)

2021-06-25 Thread Frank Heimes
Before following Lukas' suggestions could you quickly do a:
   stat /etc/systemd/network/10-enP53p0s0.link
(before deleting this file)
since this would give us the creation / modification time
and potentially (with some log correlation)
this may provide a hint when and why it was created.

[Bug 1927868] Re: vRouter not working after update to 16.3.1

2021-06-25 Thread Edward Hope-Morley
I have just re-tested all of this as follows:

 * deployed Openstack Train (on Bionic i.e. 2:15.3.3-0ubuntu1~cloud0) with 3
gateway nodes
 * created one HA router, one vm with one fip
 * can ping fip and confirm single active router
 * upgraded neutron-server (api) to 16.3.0-0ubuntu3~cloud0 (ussuri), stopped
server, neutron-db-manage upgrade head, start server
 * ping still works
 * upgraded all compute hosts to 16.3.0-0ubuntu3~cloud0, observed vrrp failover
and short interruption
 * ping still works
 * upgraded one compute to 2:16.3.2-0ubuntu3~cloud0
 * ping still works
 * upgraded neutron-server (api) to 2:16.3.2-0ubuntu3~cloud0, stopped server,
neutron-db-manage upgrade head (observed no migrations), start server
 * ping still works
 * upgraded remaining compute to 2:16.3.2-0ubuntu3~cloud0
 * ping still works

I noticed that after upgrading to 2:16.3.2-0ubuntu3~cloud0 my interfaces

1) Sent from the PC to the mobile using the "Share file" functionality
2) Received from the PC from the mobile using the Browse this device

maybe more cases...

Seem to be transferred without errors in other situations e.g. using the

[Bug 1933649] [NEW] Focal Fossa 20.04.2.0 Live installer only displays black screen with no ability to install

2021-06-25 Thread ThomasA
Public bug reported:

I am attempting to install Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 from a freshly downloaded Live
image on a USB stick.
My computer boots from the image and I get to the point where it displays an
empty desktop with the Focal Fossa background image.
After displaying the empty desktop for a few seconds, the screen switches to
black with a white Ubuntu logo towards the bottom and a narrow vertical white
rectangle which I suppose is an artefact of some menu that it fails to display
properly.
I would expect Ubuntu to either display the desktop to me, populated with
various icons such as a shortcut to install, or display some install menu to
me. Neither happens; it only displays this black screen where I cannot do
anything. I attach an photo of this.
This is quite a problem as it prevents me from installing Ubuntu 20.04.2.0.
I am able to switch to a terminal by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 and log in as
"ubuntu", but I have no idea what I would have to do to initiate the install
from the terminal or somehow fix the broken desktop environment from there.

"acpi_listen" at that time it didn't feedback any output when i pressed the
brightness hotkeys. Again I used "sudo showkey -s" it also didn't feedback any
output. I updated the bios recently but the issue still persists

@nrbrtx, thanks for your tip. I did exactly what you told me to do, and
even so, the problem persists. I'll keep waiting for another suggestion

[Bug 1927545] Re: Some of Lenovo Lenovo Essential Wireless Keyboard Fn keys doesn't work

2021-06-25 Thread Anton Sudak
With v7 it seems that Fn+F4 and Fn+F10 still do nothing, however other media
keys got Mute Mic mapping as well as their primary function. For example if I
press Vol+ I hear that volume increased but also GNOME shows that microphone
become muted. This happens for mute, vol+, vol- and playback control keys. This
seems also bugs window manager since after pressing media key input from
keyboard become unavailable until I switch to another window.
As for mouse it works as expected now.

[Bug 1933649] Re: Focal Fossa 20.04.2.0 Live installer only displays black screen with no ability to install

2021-06-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

(Did you verify the ISO before writing to your installation media? ie.
https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#0
Did the verification of your media complete? you can check for issues
in the terminal you mention getting to)

I've marked this bug incomplete as it looks like you need support rather
than having a bug to report. Insufficient details were provided I feel
to get know where the issue is, as no details were provided as to what
was attempted. This bug can be converted into a question, which may
help.

If you believe I'm in error, leave a comment outlining what steps you've
performed or the reason why. You can then return the status to "New".
You'll need to run apport-collect once the package has been changed to
a relevant one (insufficient detail exists currently to know it is; as
no details on ISO/media validation were provided etc).

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1903612] Re: Can't Load vfio-pci Module on Ubuntu 18.04 HWE Kernel

2021-06-25 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello Youhei,
we have found the `modinfo` command (from the kmod package[1]) will need to be
at least with version 27 (which is available in Focal) to support reading
information from built-in modules.

To be more precise, with these commits:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/kernel/kmod/kmod.git/commit/?h=v27&id=60084cf1cb24dc3a257976c0d539a4c3ffda5db5
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/kernel/kmod/kmod.git/commit/?h=v27&id=73eed2aba3cbe18bbda40f18f7bc32e8de1ec81f
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/kernel/kmod/kmod.git/commit/?h=v27&id=b866b2165ae6cf18fb26b635f4a7ee57c0334731
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/kernel/kmod/kmod.git/commit/?h=v27&id=e7e2cb61fa9f1db3429d91ef6accff549500d268

I have these changes backported here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~cypressyew/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+git/kmod/+ref/builtin-test

If you want to give this a try, you can clone this repo and do the following:
  git clone -b builtin-test
https://git.launchpad.net/~cypressyew/ubuntu/+source/kmod
sudo apt install gtk-doc-tools autoconf automake libtool
  cd kmod
  ./autogen.sh
  ./configure CFLAGS='-g -O2' --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --libdir=/usr/lib
 --with-rootprefix= --with-rootlibdir=/lib
  make
  cd tools
  ./modinfo vfio-pci

This will fix this modinfo issue, it can print the built-in module info
correctly. Hopefully we can push this to Ubuntu archive later.

Regarding DPDK, I have no experience with it, not sure if it will use
the modinfo command here (a quick check with their repository[2] I
didn't see it calling modinfo directly.)

I found this article with keyword "unused vfio-pci dpdk" on the Internet, it
looks like you will have to bind the driver to the device with something like:
# dpdk-devbind -b vfio-pci :01:00.0 :01:00.1
Hope this helps:

[Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-06-25 Thread Peter Mertz
I have seen this happening for months, though not very often. But it
happened yesterday and today again.

Music playing in the background (via Audacious) is garbled. This usually
happens when I open a website in a new tab. Sounds like a bitcrusher
effect to me.

I can reverse the effect by closing tabs, but I do not see a clear
cause-and-effect pattern. There are not too many tabs open (< 15), it
began when I opened Red Hat's site, but I had to close three other tabs
before it reverted to normal.

Also, the sites did not even play Audio, none of them.

I'm on Linux for more than 15 years. This is one of the strangest things I have
seen so far.
;)

[Bug 703800] Re: init: restart command fails to restart main process when pre-stop stanza exists

2021-06-25 Thread Patrick Hemmer
> How is systemd relevant?

Because it replaced upstart, and support for discontinued software tends
to get much less attention. If the issue was known for years and wasn't
fixed while the software still had a future, it became extremely
unlikely to be fixed once it didn't have a future.

> Precise is still supported. Trusty will be supported until 2019.

It's now 2021, and Trusty is in it's extended security maintenance
phase, of which this issue certainly does not qualify for. So it seems
the assessment was accurate.

[Bug 1882890] Re: intel-ucode/06-4e-03 from release 20200609 hangs system in early boot

2021-06-25 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
So, according to Intel, the probable cause for 0x406e3 and 0x506e3
processors to fail loading the microcode update *early* is an
incompatibility when you update from a very old microcode release in
BIOS/UEFI (BIOS has a revision older/smaller than 0x80) to the newer
microcode updates.

This information was provided by Intel in the upstream bug report:
https://github.com/intel/Intel-Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-Files/issues/31#issuecomment-761228960

However, it looks like it could have been fixed by the latest microcode
update batch, from 20210608, which contains microcode revision 0xea for
the 0x406e3 and 0x506e3 processors.

It would be extremely helpful if anyone that had this issue could test
the 20210608 microcode update and report, please. It helps if you
include the contents of /proc/cpuinfo *without* the microcode update,
and then the contents of /proc/cpuinfo *with* the microcode update
installed.

Thank you!

[Bug 1933669] [NEW] qt3d5-dev - cmake support missing for Qt3D Animation

2021-06-25 Thread Nicolas Jarnoux
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm working on a Qt application which uses the Qt3D module. The
application is spec'd to support ubuntu 20.04 at least.

The qt3d-dev package (at least on focal) is missing the following files:

/usr/lib/-linux-gnu/cmake/Qt53DAnimation/Qt53DAnimationConfig.cmake
/usr/lib/-linux-gnu/cmake/Qt53DAnimation/Qt53DAnimationConfigVersion.cmake

All others Qt3D modules have their own similar files but not the Animation
module.
This prevent me from building my application using official packages.
Are they missing on purpose? Is there any work around?

[Bug 1931088] Re: boot-and-services tests fails in impish on armhf (248.3)

2021-06-25 Thread Lukas Märdian
So I can reproduce the problem even locally, using a simple:
`autopkgtest systemd --test-name=boot-and-services -- lxd
autopkgtest/ubuntu/impish/amd64`

When logging into the (stalled) system, while it is waiting for its
timeout I can see that eth0 gets configured, but then put in DOWN state.
Therefore, systemd-networkd-wait-online.service (and thus network-wait-
online.target) never get ready and the test times out waiting on
"network-wait-online.target".

A simple "networkctl up eth0" (inside the LXD container) during that 60s
"timeout-wait" makes the test runner connect an finish the test
successfully.

The culprit for bringing down the interface seems to be
"/run/systemd/system/network-device-down.service", but I have no idea
where this files comes from or what it is used for. It's not part of any
package.

That service has a "Before=NetworkManager.service" dependency, that's
why it only breaks tests making use of network-manager (boot-and-
services & boot-smoke).

The LXD/LXC stack seems to be somehow involved in creating that file:

[Bug 1933670] [NEW] boot error involving Dropbox

2021-06-25 Thread tom.mo...@yale.edu
Public bug reported:

In the below error message I replaced our Dropbox group name with 'groupname':
...
Error found when loading /etc/profile:
/usr/share/modules/init/sh: eval: line 42: syntax error near unexpected token
`('
/usr/share/modules/init/sh: eval: line 42: ` Dropbox (groupname) set
+x;_mlshdbg='x' ;;'
/usr/share/modules/init/sh: line 61 :export: module: not a function
As a result the session will not be configured correctly.
You should fix this problem as soon as feasible.
...
This error message occurs when I start the computer, which has:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic
$
with this version of dropbox
$ dropbox version
Dropbox daemon version: 125.4.3474
Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04
$
The error message appears with a red exclamation mark (I typed in the error
message, as was not copy-able)

I turned off the autostart Dropbox under preferences however the error
message persists. Dropbox seems to work OK.

after executing to see if the LSB modules would help:
sudo apt install lsb-core
$ lsb_release -a
LSB Version:core-9.20170808ubuntu1-noarch:security-9.20170808ubuntu1-noarch
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic
$
the error message also persists. The error message can be dismissed by wiggling
the mouse to make the cursor appear and then clicking an OK button at which
point the desktop screen appears.

[Bug 1932303] Re: Dell XPS 17 9700 wifi

2021-06-25 Thread Jeremy Miller
Unfortunately 5.11.0-20-generic does NOT fix the wifi. As you can see in
the dmesg output above, the ath11k driver is present but doesn't seem to
enable any interfaces.
