[Bug 1920707] Re: AMD A4-5300: no sound

2021-03-22 Thread Ken Sharp
Tested 5.12.0-051200rc4-generic and the problem still occurs.

Could this be an issue in another package? Would udev be involved?

Otherwise the next step is for me to file upstream.

[Bug 1920180] Re: Can't detect intel wifi 6235

2021-03-22 Thread Alex Hung
It will take a while for a patch to be merged, so you will lose wifi
6235 if you update to newer kernels.

There are processes to merge a patch. A normal process is like below:

1. a patch is sent to upstream (cc to stable kernel)
2. it gets reviewed and merged by a maintainer, and is included in next kernel
release
3. it gets merged to stable kernels (in this case, 5.4 kernel)
4. a kernel is released by a distro (i.e. in this case Ubuntu kernel)

Note: I don't know how Linux Mint picks up Ubuntu kernel and there may
be some time too.

I just found out information about packages installed from PPAs are not found
in file configured in Dir::State::extended_states, so my script does not work
for them.
Are they found in some other file then?

[Bug 1901089] Re: Ubuntu kernels 5.4.0-51 and 5.4.0-52 break ir-keytable loading

2021-03-22 Thread Wes Newell
I'm happy to report that the following dist kernel has fixed the problem.
wes@mythfe0:~$ uname -a
Linux mythfe0 5.10.0-1017-oem #18-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 5 18:33:48 UTC 2021 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
It's in the repos.
And it also supports my nvme drive status which was why I was running later ppa
kernels to begin with.
Now if they could only get the 5.4 kernels fixed it would be complete.

That is simply the gui error thrown as a result of ubiquity crashing
on the try/install screen. The cause of that in this bug is fixed, and
remains so.
As said, the current crash is due to #1920665

While 5.10.0-1017 did fix the ir-keytable problem it introduced other
problems which I couldn't live with. After deleting my 5.11.3 kernel I
have since reinstalled it and am running it.Maybe I'll try to reinstall

[Bug 1920632] Re: use of Wacom stylus causes immediate system hang

2021-03-22 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,
thanks for reporting this,
there is a similar issue reported upstream [1] and the corresponding fix has
landed on 5.8 Groovy kernel [2] with version 5.8.0-46.52, which should be
available in the proposed pocket soon [3].

It should be available later in F-hwe kernel (5.8 kernel on Focal, which is the
one you're using now), when the "Promote-to-proposed" task is set to "Fix
Released" in this SRU tracking bug [4], the kernel will be available in the

[Bug 1920730] [NEW] gstoraster: Ghostscript runs to long while converting djvu files to Xerox`s 3210 format

2021-03-22 Thread Valentyna
Public bug reported:

My OS:
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release:20.04

Package version: cups-filters version 1.27.4-1

When I try to print djvu files on my Xerox WorkCentre 3210 gstoraster filter,
which calls ghostscript inside runs to long while converting djvu files to
Xerox`s 3210 format.
E.x.: For 155 pages of djvu files, it runs more then 15 minutes.

I found a solution by adding -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS params to
ghostscript command inside gstoraster filter. Now the time of converting the
same file is about 30 seconds.
I`ve made patch which solves this problem.

[Bug 1920723] Re: upgrade fwupd/focal to 1.4.x

2021-03-22 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
ppa for fwupd/focal 1.4.6-1~ubuntu20.04.1.

Note that fwupd/focal 1.4.6-1~ubuntu20.04.1 is a no change rebuild from
the one in groovy.

https://launchpad.net/~ycheng-twn/+archive/ubuntu/f4

** Description changed:

Per OEM customer work flow, we need to SRU focal/fwup to version 1.4.x

Per currently groovy fwupd is version 1.4.5-1, per SRU quality POV, it's
rather a low risk to do so.

  [Impact]

   * There are two incident happened that make OEM customer's machine
un-bootable. Although it can be manually work-around and take very
short time to re-sping another firmware version, it's still bad.
Per conclusion, customer want to en-roll firmware by themself.
     And that need update fwupd.

  [Test Plan]

   * find a machine and try to upgrade firmware, and confirm it works.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Given fwupd 1.4.5 is landed in groovy, it's fairly safe to do so.

  [Other Info]

   * update fwupd have new dependency on libjcat, that's tracked in
  lp:1920724
+
+
+ [Steps]
+ 1. upgrade libjcat/universe/focal from version 0.1.0-2 to 0.1.3-2.
+ 2. MIR libjcat/focal to main.
+ 3. SRU fwupd/focal from version 1.3.11-1~focal1 to 1.4.5-1~ubuntu20.04.1

2021-03-22 Thread Jarno Suni
Maybe so, but the fact is that the file does not contain information
about all packages installed to my system. (apt 2.0.4 (amd64) / Ubuntu
20.04)

$ grep -c '^Package:' /var/lib/apt/extended_states
698
$ dpkg -l | grep ^ii | wc -l
1893

My file contains only records for packages that are automatically
installed for some reason. (All records have "Auto-Installed: 1")

apt-mark showmanual works anyway.

[Bug 1920141] Re: [SRU] openvswitch 2.13.3 / linking changes in DPDK 19.11.x

2021-03-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The DPDK portion of this, which currently blocks the rebuild of OVS, is due to
this issue [1].
I've reported and blocked this issue from 19.11.4, but it eventually crept into
19.11.6 as discussed here [2].

I'll discuss upstream if everyone would be ok with taking those
conflicting changes out of 19.11.x (my preferred way) and until then
provide you a preliminary DPDK build into the PPA [3].

[Bug 1919923] Re: mod_python statically linked to wrong python 2.7 version

2021-03-22 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the information. I can reproduce it here easily.

I'm just curious if the rebuild of libapache2-mod-python against 2.7.18
should fix this so I'd like to ask if you can check if install
libapache2-mod-python from this
(https://launchpad.net/~utkarsh/+archive/ubuntu/experimental-dump) PPA
fixes the original issue for you?

The mismatch does go away for me but does it work as intended?

[Bug 1920611] Re: ubuntu-20.04.2 for raspberry, java installation fails

2021-03-22 Thread Axel Keller
Problem solved:

Booting the Ubuntu system the timedate service didn't work (bug?). The
date was one year behind. Therefore some certificates failed and thus
some connections to repositories.

I changed timedate to ntp and all works fine!

   $ sudo apt install ntp
   $ ntpq -p
   $ date

[Bug 1919923] Re: mod_python statically linked to wrong python 2.7 version

2021-03-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Indeed thanks Stefan and Utkarsh,
also with that known one can see that the build of libapache2-mod-python was
done against 2.7.17-1ubuntu5. See:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libapache2-mod-python/3.3.1-11ubuntu5
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/464118415/buildlog_ubuntu-focal-amd64.libapache2-mod-python_3.3.1-11ubuntu5_BUILDING.txt.gz

@Utkarsh - Somewhat independent to the case here I wonder if this has a strong
dependency to 2.7.17 or 2.7.18 (as the error indicates) if the package
dependencies to "libpython2.7 (>= 2.7)" are sufficient. >=2.7 seems wrong, even
>2.7.17 would be wrong as we have 2.7.18 and it fails.
Almost like =2.7.17 (or on rebuild =2.7.18). Once the immediate case is
resolved it might be worth spending a bit of time to look if dh-python or
libapache2-mod-python needs a fix here to create better package dependencies.

[Bug 1920745] [NEW] Apps appear incorrectly when using an RTL language

Public bug reported:

When starting the 20.04 or 21.04 ISOs and setting the language in Grub

including the panel and application elements (e.g. menu, toolbar, side
pane, etc.).

[Bug 1920141] Re: [SRU] openvswitch 2.13.3 / linking changes in DPDK 19.11.x

2021-03-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Changes to remove:
f49248a990 Revert "Revert "build/pkg-config: prevent overlinking""
39586a4cf0 Revert "Revert "build/pkg-config: improve static linking flags""
906e935a1f Revert "Revert "build/pkg-config: output drivers first for static
build""
deebf95239 Revert "Revert "build/pkg-config: move pkg-config file creation""
a3bd9a34bf Revert "Revert "build: always link whole DPDK static libraries""
d4bc124438 Revert "Revert "devtools: test static linkage with pkg-config""

This series changes linking behavior in 19.11.x and thereby should stay
out. It breaks - for example - a rebuild of OVS 2.13 or builds
of later OVS 2.13.x stable releases.

File moved on: deebf952 "build/pkg-config: move pkg-config file creation"
Later changes to buildtools/pkg-config/meson.build that we need to re-create.
3f33f5056 build: fix plugin load on static build
4a2baf099 build: fix linker flags on Windows
Those have to take place in meson.build after this is all reverted and gone.

I have sent the proposal to remove that to sta...@dpdk.org as I want to
get the buy in there to not re-re-re-re-revert later :-)

[Bug 1920749] [NEW] [Thinkpad Yoga X1] Computer stuck when screen touched with touchpen

2021-03-22 Thread Jesko
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 4th Gen. My OS version is 20.04.

My touchscreen works fine, but when I use my pen the entire OS freezes
and even any sound that plays repeats in a loop that is maybe half a
second long. The only way I found to get out of this is to force
shutdown. I can reproduce this on my laptop without fail. And it is
independent of any program I have open.

This problem started around 17th March (I don't remember exactly) and
update almost every day.

[Bug 1920747] Re: alsa/realtek: extend the delay time in the determine_headset_type for a Dell AIO

2021-03-22 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ Users plug a headset to this AIO and select headset-mic from UI, but
+ can't record any sound from the headset-mic.
+
+ [Fix]
+ The root cause is the driver return a wrong type of the headset, need
+ to add more delay in the determine_headset_type(), so backport that
+ patch to ubuntu kernel.
+
+ [Test]
+ Booting the system with patched kernel, plug headset and select
+ headset-mic from UI, could record sound from headset-mic, we tested
+ more than 10 times, all worked well.
+
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ This could make the user experience a small delay from pop-up dialogue
+ when plugging a headset, but the delay is less than 1s and the delay
+ is not much longer than other codecs, QA think it is acceptable.

[Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed

2021-03-22 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
@Fred eldmannen+launchpad

This issue is only fixed in the Ubuntu patchset for the Linux Kernel.
Although I have submitted this fix upstream, it has not been picked up
yet by kernel.org vanilla kernels. See
https://lkml.org/lkml/2021/1/14/1091

The mainline builds you point to, do not contain Ubuntu patchset, and
thus are as vanilla as possible. Meaning that yes, those builds are
affected by this issue.

There should be point release updates for Hirsute soon.

There are a lot less users on groovy, and a lot less people applying

What has changed/fixed? Which plugins/machines/skus are affected?

Also note that this fwupd will not work with the next shim, due to lack

[Bug 1920755] [NEW] ip route parsing fails with multipath routing

2021-03-22 Thread Fabrizio Lungo
Public bug reported:

The systemd unit provided in the Ubuntu package attempts to parse the
output of `ip route show to exact 0/0` in order to automatically
populate with the `-P` flags for each next hop. Unfortunately this
parsing is not robust and breaks on a host with multipath routing.

This is the current value of ExecStart from the systemd unit:

ExecStart=/bin/sh -c "exec /usr/sbin/oidentd -S ${OIDENT_OPTIONS} -u
\"${OIDENT_USER}\" -g \"${OIDENT_GROUP}\" \
 `[ \"${OIDENT_BEHIND_PROXY}\" = \"yes\" ] && ip route show to exact 0/0 | awk
'{print \"-P \" $3}'`"

This is what output of `ip route ...` on a host with multipath routing (in this
case with BGP unnumbered next hops) looks like for reference:

$ ip route show to exact 0/0
default proto bgp metric 20
nexthop via 169.254.0.1 dev ens2f1np1 weight 1 onlink
nexthop via 169.254.0.1 dev eno34np1 weight 1 onlink
nexthop via 169.254.0.1 dev ens2f0np0 weight 1 onlink
nexthop via 169.254.0.1 dev eno33np0 weight 1 onlink

Currently, `-P bgp -P 169.254.0.1 -P 169.254.0.1 -P 169.254.0.1 -P 169.254.0.1`
is added to the command however this results in the following error:

Fatal: Unknown host: "bgp"

To fix the parsing of this output so that it works regardless of whether there
is one or more than one next hop (and provide all next hops as arguments), the
ExecStart can be changed to the following which matches just the lines in the
output which have "via" as the second field in the output:

ExecStart=/bin/sh -c "exec /usr/sbin/oidentd -S ${OIDENT_OPTIONS} -u
\"${OIDENT_USER}\" -g \"${OIDENT_GROUP}\" \
 `[ \"${OIDENT_BEHIND_PROXY}\" = \"yes\" ] && ip route show to exact 0/0 | awk
'$2 == \"via\" {print \"-P \" $3}'`"

It may be additionally desirable to pipe that output into `sort -u`.

A simple workaround for other users running into this issue is to
disable (set to "no") the OIDENT_BEHIND_PROXY variable in
/etc/default/oidentd assuming that the host is not behind a proxy.

Since the default for the package is for this to be enabled, if the host
is using multipath when the package is installed, starting the service
fails causing the package install/update to fail so I think it would be
ideal to make the parsing more robust (as suggested).

- Ubuntu Focal 20.04
- Version: 2.4.0

2021-03-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I've marked this as incomplete, as it looks like you need support (no
indication that you've update your software lists since installation was
provided, held-broken packages that requires fixing), etc. If you
believe I'm in error, please leave a comment as to why, and change the
status back to "New". The package will need correction, then you'll be
requested to run `apport-collect`

[Bug 1920749] Re: [Thinkpad Yoga X1] Computer stuck when screen touched with touchpen

2021-03-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1920749/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1920759] [NEW] kdump-tools passes wrong arguments to makedumpfile

2021-03-22 Thread Ioanna Alifieraki
Public bug reported:

Commit 38fe0c8f41fd (Support compressing the dumpfile) [1]
changes the call to makedumpfile :
- makedumpfile $MAKEDUMP_ARGS $vmcore_file "$KDUMP_CORETEMP"
+ makedumpfile $MAKEDUMP_ARGS $vmcore_file | compress > "$KDUMP_CORETEMP"

This introduces a regression because makedumpfile is called with the wrong
arguments and as a result instead of creating a real dumpfile it creates
a file which contains an error message :

# cat /var/crash/202103181853/dump.202103181853
makedumpfile: version 1.6.8++ (released on 16 Nov 2020)
command line: makedumpfile -c -d 31 -D /proc/vmcore

Commandline parameter is invalid.
Try `makedumpfile --help' for more information.

makedumpfile Failed.
