[Bug 1914911] [NEW] bluefs doesn't compact log file
Public bug reported: For a certain type of workload, the bluefs might never compact the log file, which would cause the bluefs log file slowly grows to a huge size (some bigger than 1TB for a 1.5T device). This bug could eventually cause osd crash and failed to restart as it couldn't get through the bluefs replay phase during boot time. We might see below log when trying to restart the osd: bluefs mount failed to replay log: (5) Input/output error There are more details in the bluefs perf counters when this issue happened: e.g. "bluefs": { "gift_bytes": 811748818944, "reclaim_bytes": 0, "db_total_bytes": 888564350976, "db_used_bytes": 867311747072, "wal_total_bytes": 0, "wal_used_bytes": 0, "slow_total_bytes": 0, "slow_used_bytes": 0, "num_files": 11, "log_bytes": 866545131520, "log_compactions": 0, "logged_bytes": 866542977024, "files_written_wal": 2, "files_written_sst": 3, "bytes_written_wal": 32424281934, "bytes_written_sst": 25382201 } As we can see the log_compactions is 0, which means it's never compacted and the log file size(log_bytes) is already 800+G. After the compaction, the log file size would reduced to around 1 G Here is the PR[1] that addressed this bug, we need to backport this to ubuntu 12.2.13 [1] https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/17354 ** Affects: ceph (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914911 Title: bluefs doesn't compact log file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+bug/1914911/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1848923] Re: pollinate.service fails to start: ERROR: should execute as the [pollinate] user
Thanks Christian! Interesting, the "ERROR: should execute as the [pollinate] user" looks quite unrelated to any networking setup and smelled like a package postinst/systemd unit bug. I started trying to reproduce this outside of the Ubuntu CI, with a most naïve curl -O https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily/server/groovy/current/groovy-server-cloudimg-amd64.img curl -O https://github.com/cockpit-project/bots/raw/master/machine/cloud-init.iso qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -nographic -m 2048 -device virtio-rng-pci -drive file=groovy-server-cloudimg-amd64.img,if=virtio -snapshot -cdrom cloud-init.iso (that cloud-init is nothing special, just to get root:foobar and admin:foobar accounts, see [1]) But this fails to start ssh.service, and neither does it actually run cloud-init, so there is no way to log in and examine further. But indeed it seems to have started pollinate: [ OK ] Finished Pollinate to seed…seudo random number generator. Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server... [ OK ] Started Dispatcher daemon for systemd-networkd. [FAILED] Failed to start OpenBSD Secure Shell server. See 'systemctl status ssh.service' for details. Our CI uses libvirt for everything, which of course makes a CLI reproducer a lot more difficult. It's fairly easy when actually using our python wrappers: git clone https://github.com/cockpit-project/bots/ bots/vm-run ubuntu-stable (log in as root:foobar) This downloads the actual image to ~/.cache/cockpit-images and creates a transient domain with a transient overlay. I attach the `virsh dumpxml` output, but of course that has a lot of absolute file system paths in it, UUIDs, and other junk that is specific to my system. There the pollinate user exists # id pollinate uid=111(pollinate) gid=1(daemon) groups=1(daemon) # systemctl cat pollinate [..] [Service] User=pollinate ExecStart=/usr/bin/pollinate Type=oneshot which looks right. I edited the systemd unit to run pollinate through /bin/sh -ex, and that did reveal something: Feb 07 09:24:10 ubuntu sh[2449]: + set -e Feb 07 09:24:10 ubuntu sh[2449]: + set -f Feb 07 09:24:10 ubuntu sh[2449]: + PKG=pollinate Feb 07 09:24:10 ubuntu sh[2450]: + mktemp -d -t pollinate. [Bug 1881473] Re: printer communication error
Yes, similar issue. 2x fresh installs of 20.04.1. Using a Brother MFC-J890DW, and trying to connect USB. Keep getting 'several printers' automatically created, but generally don't work, and appear not to be USB. Scanning is also hit and miss. Have tried using automatically created printers, and also installing the Brother drivers. Sometimes works, (via network mostly), but after a reboot, broken again. Uninstall/reinstall. Used to 'just work'. Last OS was an older version of Mint. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881473 Title: printer communication error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/1881473/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914918] [NEW] The snap being updated in the background causes both old and new tabs to die to SIGTRAP
Public bug reported: The last few background updates of chromium have made some old tabs suddenly crash with SIGTRAP and it also makes it impossible to open new tabs, those die instantly with a SIGTRAP as well. Hi :) I also have the R-Go Tools Split keyboard and is having the exact same issue no Ubuntu 20.04. I also had the same issue on Ubuntu 18.04. But I found a way to fix it. [Bug 1914929] [NEW] Raspberry Pi u-boot-rpi package version 2020.10+dfsg-1ubuntu0~20.10.1 prevents Bluetooth Devices Connecting
Public bug reported: After updating this package version from 2020.04+dfsg-2ubuntu1 to 2020.10+dfsg-1ubuntu0~20.10.1 any Bluetooth device on a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB will no longer be able to pair. Not attempts to remove and re add the devices seems to resolve the problem To fix the issue you have to uninstall this package and go back to the previous versions. [Bug 1914932] [NEW] Kernel updates marked as "manually installed", prevents old kernels cleanup
Public bug reported: Actually, I'm not 100% sure it's Discover's fault, but I'm quite confident it could the source of the problem. On 2021-01-27, when trying to install the latest kernel version for my Kubuntu 20.04 installation, I went out of space in my /boot partition. Looking at the installed kernels, I saw that I had 6 (SIX!) old kernels installed, including the one I was running on. I knew I had all the automatic kernel update and cleaning in place thanks to unattended-upgrades, because I looked at it some time ago, so, I took back the Ubuntu documentation page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels and re-read it from scratch. Substantially this sentence is enlightening: Note: The following methods will only remove kernels that are marked as being automatically installed as described above. My problem was that all the installed kernels where marked as MANUALLY INSTALLED: $ apt-mark showauto 'linux-image-.*' linux-image-generic $ apt-mark showmanual 'linux-image-.*' linux-image-5.4.0-54-generic linux-image-5.4.0-56-generic linux-image-5.4.0-58-generic linux-image-5.4.0-59-generic linux-image-5.4.0-62-generic linux-image-5.4.0-64-generic linux-image-5.4.0-65-generic (note: the last kernel version was the one I was not able to completely install due to insufficient disk space) Also, looking at /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels I had: rc linux-image-5.4.0-42-generic5.4.0-42.46 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-5.4.0-48-generic5.4.0-48.52 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-5.4.0-51-generic5.4.0-51.56 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-5.4.0-52-generic5.4.0-52.57 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-5.4.0-53-generic5.4.0-53.59 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-5.4.0-60-generic5.4.0-60.67 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-5.4.0-62-generic5.4.0-62.70 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-5.4.0-64-generic5.4.0-64.72 amd64Signed kernel image generic iF linux-image-5.4.0-65-generic5.4.0-65.73 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-generic 5.4.0.65.68 amd64Generic Linux kernel image So, some kernel versions were indeed automatically pruned in the past (those marked with "rc"), but other are missing there and indeed they were marked as "manually installed". Running "apt autoremove" manually of course does not remove old kernels, for the same reason. I'm pretty sure the problem lies here: some kernel version were automatically installed by unattended-upgrades (and these where automatically purged), some others were installed by me by hitting "update all" button in Discover, when it periodically notifies me about new updates. So, looking again at the Ubuntu wiki page, I see: In Ubuntu 16.04 kernels installed by Software Updater are marked as being automatically installed. In Ubuntu 14.04 only kernels installed by unattended-upgrades are marked as being automatically installed. See bug #1439769 for details. So, I suspect such a "bug" is still present in Kubuntu 20.04 Discover, which marks all kernels installed through it as "manually installed". [Bug 1895643] Re: Backport Thunderbird 78 to 20.04 LTS and 18.04 LTS
At Fosdem 21 conference it was announced that next summer Thunderbird 91 will be released, which again will include fundamental changes. My impression is that this time many months have been wasted because of unclear procedures and responsibilities - not because of unsolvable technical problems. (I hope we will see Thunderbird 78 before version 91 is out... - just kidding) @osomon: Thank you Olivier for taking care of this issue. Would you please write a short post mortem after the successful backport, where the difficulties have been, what steps to take and what responsible persons to contact to solve such a situation in future? [Bug 1914939] [NEW] backport libseccomp 2.4.4+ for faccessat2
Public bug reported: The next release of Alpine Linux intends to use the faccessat2(2) syscall for access(3). This currently fails under Ubuntu Docker, regardless of using the separate Docker package repository, since it forbids faccessat2. This bug is similar to bug #1876055, but requests backporting of 2.4.4 instead of 2.4.3. I believe this change is likely low risk and can be applied to all supported Ubuntu versions. Alternatively, I also see in bug #1891810 that libseccomp 2.5 is being considered for backporting. This would also be acceptable for our purposes, but is obviously a higher-risk change for Ubuntu. ** Affects: libseccomp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914939 Title: backport libseccomp 2.4.4+ for faccessat2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libseccomp/+bug/1914939/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914940] [NEW] libsbigudrv2 contains udev rules prevent firmware from loading
Public bug reported: The libsbigudrv2 package contains several minor udev rule errors that prevents firmware from loading. These include queries to SYSFS instead of ATTR, assignment of ENV{DEVTYPE}, and a missing comma (causing 1801362). These items cause the rule to not apply to the underlying devices and the firmware load command not to run. I have fixed all of these locally. [Bug 1914941] [NEW] [needs-packaging] davfs2 1.5.6-1
Public bug reported: Dear all, when installing davfs2 from universe (Ubuntu 20.04), the resulting davfs2 version is 1.5.5-1. I just did an installation from scratch to check this. However, this version has a bug leading to a segmentation fault when running the umount.davfs command. Moreover, the system "hangs" when shutting down, and finally reports that it is waiting for process mount.davfs. I found several reports concerning the segmentation fault, an the common solution seems to be to opt for the bugfix release 1.5.6-1 instead of 1.5.5-1. I am not familiar enough with linux / debian to do the packaging myself, and I think this is a general issue. Perhaps someone from the MOTUs can help here ? [Bug 1766076] Re: USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while
I have a very similar issue with a WD19TB under Ubuntu 20.04 (Dell Latitude 5410) and desperately browsing the net, looking for solutions. Everything works fine until I resume from suspend. Then all USB devices connected to the dock start having failures (like missing key presses for the keyboard, mouse becoming sluggish until the device is disconnected, or sound becoming bad, also I suspect the ethernet port of the dock doesn't work well anymore). This is most likely *not* a thunderbolt authorization issue (I tried all the security modes: no security/user based/key based, all show the same behavior), which is a definite difference with many reports I found here and there (and makes it hard to find the same exact one as the one I have). The present issues description from the opener seems close enough, including dmesg output (although the opener had a Dell 16TB dock). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766076 Title: USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1766076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914953] [NEW] grub2 incompatibility between at_keyboard and gfxterm modules lead to impossible to type passphrase or access ubuntu grub2 menu on a fully encrypted installation
Public bug reported: Hello, On a fresh installed Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (tested with Mate & Ubuntu with two different brands and configurations of laptops) fully luks encrypted systems using this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Full_Disk_Encryption_Howto_2019 with the fellowing configurations: laptop 1 (Dell): x64_86 BIOS/GPT /dev/sda1 => bios_grub /dev/sda2 => luks encrypted LVM with VG,LV /boot, /root, /home, /swap laptop 2 (Acer): x64_86 UEFI/GPT /dev/sda1 => ESP /dev/sda2 => luks encrypted LVM with VG,LV /boot, /root, /home, /swap It's impossible with : => 1st stage grub: /dev/sda1 bios_grub (core.img) or ESP partition (grub.efi) => 2nd stage grub: /dev/sda2/LUKS_VOL/LVM/boot/grub to: 1- set a local grub keyboard layout (French) to type passphrase in 1st stage grub 2- access (edit mode or typing command under grub console) in 2nd stage grub Here all my tests results from the last 3 days on the two laptops at same time: [0] Defaults setting after installation : 1st stage grub: US keyboard layout (standard) 2nd stage grub: gfxterm module loaded (install defaults) => 1st stage grub: almost impossible to type strong passphrase with accentuated characters and special characters due typos error and keyboard layout difference and unlock encrypted luks volume => 2nd stage grub: working without trouble, can access ubuntu grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console as normal. [1] Modfied settings after installation : 1st stage grub only 1st stage grub: FR keyboard layouts with at_keyboard module ([1A] grub core image config at the end) 2nd stage grub: gfxterm module loaded (no modification from default installation) => 1st stage grub: can type strong passphrase and unlock at the first attempt the luks encrypted volume => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console [2] Modfied settings after installation : 2nd stage grub only 1st stage grub: default grub core.img after installation with US layout 2nd stage grub: gfxterm module loaded + at_keybord, "terminal_input at_keyboard", keymap fr.gkb ([2A] grub.cfg config at the end) => 1st stage grub: almost impossible to type strong passphrase as in test case [0] => 2nd stage grub: almost Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console). I need to repeat the same keystrokes 7 times or more give me only one keystroke at screen (and PC speaker beep every 1x or 4x keystrokes but it's really secondary).. Ressetting "terminal_output console" (by removing at_keyboard) or "terminal_input console" (by removing gfxterm) (by typing t(x7+2xbeep)e(x7+3xbeep)+r(x7+4xbeep)+m(x7+1xbeep)...) resolved the situation. [3] Modfied settings after installation : 1nd stage grub only 1st stage grub: FR keyboard layouts with at_keybord + gfxterm module 2nd stage grub: gfxterm module loaded (no modification from default installation) => 1st stage grub: Impossible to type strong passphrase as in test case [0] but this time it's due to gfxterm and at_keyboard loaded at same time and each character must be typed 7x or more times (+ beep) so impossible to know what you are typping because nothing is printed at screen while you type your password. By accessing grub minimal console due to a limited core.img and removing at_keybord with "terminal_input console" or removing gfxterm with "terminal_output console" resolved the situation but typing such command as set prefix=(memdisk), ... cryptomount -u xyzaabac, set root='lvmid/Eh2HHw-Bceq-VfsK-Kz01-kaeg-dRbz-Rwcntf/nVAE5f-GOrJ-wvu3-RTN0-mzAe-G4Oo-mzTQrN' and then passphrase without any typos erros at first attempt with a different keyboard layout was a real challenge. => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console with at_keybord eg: "terminal_input at_keyboard" is loaded even in 1st stage grub. Conclusion: It seems that if grub at_keyboard module is loaded with "terminal_input at_keyboard" (to load a custom keyboard layout tested with german, italian, french ...) even only in the 1st stage grub ... it's almost impossible to access any grub menu (edit command or console) in grub (same level) or even in another child grub as the 2nd stage if grub gfxterm module is loaded too. So, for international users typing a strong passphrase is almost impossible without using something like "test123" or "qwerty123" and keeping access on any child grub. For me it's something like critical because I can use a secure installation with all partition/data encrypted but I can't type a strong passphrase (eg "C0udéeM+(@rpantÀ)") or access any child grub menu or console if any grub at_keyboard module is loaded (at a upper level or at same level) with a gfxterm module somewhere else (at same level or at a child level). I found an old bug report at debian.org but it seems resolved with grub 2.02+dfsg1-11. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=741464 I ap
