[Bug 1910209] Re: "systemctl stop openvswitch-switch" will remove /var/run/openvswitch
Christian, thank you so much, the below solution works for me. $ sudo systemctl edit ovsdb-server.service [Service] RuntimeDirectoryPreserve=yes BTW, only one way to change vhostuser path is using ovs other_config :vhost-sock-dir, but it is a subdir under /var/run/openvswitch, so it can't fix this. https://github.com/openvswitch/ovs/blob/master/lib/dpdk.c#L360. If you create dpdkvhostuserclient port by yourself and add-port it by yourself, you can specify full path, but for me, these are handled by openstack, so I can't control this, other_config:vhost-sock-dir is only one way to change this, but it is relative path, it can't be beyond /var/run/openvswitch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910209 Title: "systemctl stop openvswitch-switch" will remove /var/run/openvswitch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/serverguide/+bug/1910209/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1907445] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu5: bcmwl kernel module failed to build
I too lost Wi-Fi after doing apt upgrade, which brought the kernel to 5.8.0.34-generic. Same "ioremap_cache" reported as above. I found that the package for the broadcom in my Macbook Pro should be using firmware-b43-installer, not the bcmwl-kernel-source package, according to the "BROADCOM WIRELESS TABLE (Updated Oct 29, 2020)" table in this AskUbuntu answer: https://askubuntu.com/a/60395/157287 $ lspci -nn -d 14e4: |grep Network 03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:4331] (rev 02) When I look up 14e4:4331 under the Ubuntu 20.04+ column, it says, for package name: firmware-b43-installer / linux-firmware So then I removed bcmwl-kernel-source: $ sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source And then plugged in a USB Wi-Fi adapter and installed firmware-b43-installer (linux-firmware was already installed): $ sudo apt install firmware-b43-installer Rebooted, and was back in business! (albeit for 2.4 GHz only, not 5 GHz) Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky with an old Lenovo E431 that had the same issue ("ioremap_cache"). $ lspci -nn -d 14e4: 04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4365] (rev 01) Which, in that table shows also to use firmware-b43-installer. [Bug 1866149] Re: CONFIG_BASE_SMALL=1 restricts pid space, which conflicts with systemd default sysctl
Linux KVM is meant for VM guests and probably therefore was set to CONFIG_BASE_SMALL=1. The discussion "if this makes sense or not" is up to the kernel team but it seems this bug has got no attention by them yet :-/. I was quickly assessing the case and found: - Linux-generic is on CONFIG_BASE_SMALL=0 in B/F/G/H as one would expect. - linux-kvm in B/F/G/H was all the time set to CONFIG_BASE_SMALL=0 - the option we talk about here is [1][2] - IMHO "speed loss for saving a few KB" does not sound right. IIRC linux-kvm was meant more for speed than density. We are virtual, but not as small as an embedded controller for example. - This goes back to [3] when linux-kvm was introduced - I didn't find a commit in [4] that listed any extended reasoning/discussion when enabling [5] it. IMHO I agree and this should be switched in the kernel config. I don't think that changing the pid-max was wrong. Even older Xenial linux-kvm running in 2020 can be considered bigger than what CONFIG_BASE_SMALL was meant for. But further actions are for the kernel Team to consider and make. Therefore I'm adding a src:linux task, subscribing some more people and pinging the kernel team internally to get some attention. [Bug 1908050] Re: Support post install enablement of OEM-enabled devices
This is from Dell XPS 13 9300. ** Description changed: [ Description ] The Ubuntu installer (ubiquity), working together with ubuntu-drivers, will install an "OEM metapackage" for the platform being installed, if there is one which matches. This means that if Canonical has performed enablement for a device, users will receive the same experience if they purchase hardware with Ubuntu preinstalled or if it has another OS and they later install Ubuntu. However, if the hardware was enabled post-release and the user is offline when installing Ubuntu, the installer will not know that there is any enablement that it should install. Similarly if the enablement happens after Ubuntu has been installed. In these cases we need a way inside the installed session for the same enablement to be provided. We're adding the capability for update-manager to install these packages. They themselves install a sources.list.d snippet referring to an "OEM archive" specific to the device, so update-manager needs to know to update (as in `apt update`) and then upgrade (`apt upgrade`) a second time after installing oem-foo-meta from the Ubuntu archive. update-manager will be consuming a file provided by update-notifier to know if the device needs an oem metapackage or not. NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE: The OEM metapackages are LTS only, so the intention is that this change is effectively a no-op on hirsute. Therefore we are proposing NOT to SRU to groovy, as there is no chance of a regression for groovy users. [ QA ] = On a certified device = - 1. Install without any OEM enablement. Run update-notifier to populate - the file $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/ubuntu-drivers-oem.package-list. Run update- - manager and make sure the OEM experience is installed properly - you end - up with the version of oem-foo-meta from the OEM archive. - - 2. As above but with some other regular (SRU) updates available. Make - sure all updates are installed. - - 3. After installing the OEM experience, make sure further updates are - offered as normal. + 1. Update the system to the latest without focal-proposed. + 2. Enable focal-proposed, and then only install update-manager/1:20.04.10.2 and update-notifier/3.192.30.4 from focal-proposed. + 3. Reboot the system and wait for a while. + The notification will pop up and we can see "Improved hardware support" on the certified machines. = On a non certified device = 1. Make sure that updates are offered whenever they are available. 2. Make sure update-manager is launched automatically (by update- notifier) as before. [ What could go wrong ] In this update we rework transaction handling. If this is wrong, then the progress bar or terminal could stop working. If there's a bug in the way we install / update / upgrade the OEM metapackages then we could break installing any update. If we accidentally apply this logic to non OEM systems then we could break updating for everybody. ** Description changed: [ Description ] The Ubuntu installer (ubiquity), working together with ubuntu-drivers, will install an "OEM metapackage" for the platform being installed, if there is one which matches.
