[Bug 1878523] Re: [IOMMU] Provide invalidation hint to IOMMU page selective PASID-based IOTLB invalidation
** Description changed: Description: Invalidation Hint (IH) can be provided for page-selective-within-PASID invalidations, the Invalidation Hint specifies if the first-level and nested mappings cached in the paging-structure-caches that controls the specified address/mask range needs to be invalidated or not. For software usages that update only the leaf PTEs, the first-level and nested mappings in the paging-structure-caches can be preserved by specifying the Invalidation Hint field value of 1. However, currently our SVM code hardcode IH=0. which is less optimal. For vSVM, we have already added a generic flag (IOMMU_INV_ADDR_FLAG_LEAF) to indicate passdown cache invalidate API is for leaf PTE only. So as long as native SVM is fixed, vSVM could set the IH w/o code change. SW needs to obtain statistics of non-leaf paging structure to provide IH bit. static void intel_flush_svm_range(struct intel_svm *svm, unsigned long address, unsigned long pages, int ih, int gl) { struct intel_svm_dev *sdev; rcu_read_lock(); list_for_each_entry_rcu(sdev, &svm->devs, list) intel_flush_svm_range_dev(svm, sdev, address, pages, ih, gl); rcu_read_unlock(); } /* Pages have been freed at this point */ static void intel_invalidate_range(struct mmu_notifier *mn, struct mm_struct *mm, unsigned long start, unsigned long end) { struct intel_svm *svm = container_of(mn, struct intel_svm, notifier); intel_flush_svm_range(svm, start, (end - start + PAGE_SIZE - 1) >> VTD_PAGE_SHIFT, 0, 0); } - Target Kernel: 5.11 + Target Kernel: TBD Target Release: 21.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878523 Title: [IOMMU] Provide invalidation hint to IOMMU page selective PASID-based IOTLB invalidation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1878523/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1908331] Re: Regression: qemu-user-static binaries are dynamically linked
** Description changed: - On 20.04 (qemu 4.2) the binaries built for qemu-user-static - - specifically in the case I've hit /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static - are - completely static executables. + [ Impact ] + + * An upstream change [1] had undesired impact of making qemu-user-static +no more fully static. In some cases e.g. cross arch debootstrapping +that breaks the use case. + + * The root cause is the use of ld with an unsupported pie related flag. +We have fixed this upstream and this backports that change. + + [Test Case] + + * $ file $(dpkg -L qemu-user-static | grep bin\/qemu-.*-static) + + Should show "statically linked", but not "dynamically linked" (bad + case) + + + [Where problems could occur] + + * I can't think of an immediate expected regression that comes to mind, +but the following at least limits the area to look for issues. +The change it limited to qemu-user-static. Therefore impacts would be +seen there but not in e.g. system emulation (other binaries, those +didn't change except for being rebuilt). +Also the new behavior matches what we had pre-groovy and therfore what +users expect. + + + [Other Info] + + * n/a + + + [1]: https://git.qemu.org/?p=qemu.git;a=commit;h=127814629b32d5e0de2873d742e08cb9bd412af7 + + + --- + + + On 20.04 (qemu 4.2) the binaries built for qemu-user-static - specifically in the case I've hit /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static - are completely static executables. The same binaries from a qemu 5.x build are not. Although they don't link to other shared libraries they are dynamically linked to glibc and therefore require the same version of the glibc shared libraries at runtime. This breaks many uses in foreign architecture chroots; in my case an aarch64 being built with debootstrap: On focal: $ file /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), statically linked, BuildID[sha1]=abad039a2cfc5bc87215554230a572b085fbc37a, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, with debug_info, not stripped $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static qemu-user-static: /usr/bin/qemu-aarch64-static $ apt list qemu-user-static qemu-user-static/focal-updates,focal-security,now 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.10 amd64 [installed] But recent builds of 5.2 are not; for example from hirsute (qemu-user- static_5.2+dfsg-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb) $ file /tmp/qemu-aarch64-static /tmp/qemu-aarch64-static: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=91fda2fa08f46d1bb6d19b6f72a4819a7c20fd7e, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, stripped I hit this whilst trying to track down another bug and building upstream git HEAD on 20.04 with: $ ../../qemu/configure --disable-system --enable-linux-user --static --target-list=aarch64-linux-user $ make $ file qemu-aarch64 qemu-aarch64: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=546ba11f0de940f7f3cbfaffae3c2bb54b683386, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, with debug_info, not stripped It looks like changes to the qemu build system are responsible. I asked on OFTC #qemu and at that time no-one was particularly aware of the significance/difference. Looking at the configure output summary between the focal and hirsute/upstream builds I noticed that there is no longer a separate summary for LDFLAGS - it now only reports QEMU_LDFLAGS. That seems significant since focal passed "-static" with LDFLAGS not QEMU_LDFLAGS: LDFLAGS -Wl,--warn-common -m64 -static -g -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,--as-needed - QEMU_LDFLAGS + QEMU_LDFLAGS whereas hirsute shows: QEMU_LDFLAGS: -Wl,--warn-common -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,-z,now -static-pie -m64 -g -O2 -fdebug-prefix-map=/<>/qemu-5.2+dfsg=. -fstack- protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,--as- needed -fstack-protector-strong (notice it is -static-pie not -static now) I've seen mention in qemu commit messages of the meson build system changes causing issues around passing of linker flags but it needs someone familiar with the project and build system to figure this out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908331 Title: Regression: qemu-user-static binaries are dynamically linked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1908331/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910372] [NEW] Support more modern Lua versions - to keep only one in main
Public bug reported: Hi, in the past we have tried to move 5.1->5.2 (bug 1324062) but right now we have: For older Lua versions being held in main I found: - apache2-bin depends on lua5.2 - dovecot depends depends on lua5.3 And a request for lua5.4 in bug 1909665. Step I: I'd request to check if we can: - at least move apache2 to lua5.3 to be able to demote lua5.2 in Hirsute - [1] suggests that 5.3 might work right away Step II: Further down the road I'd request to check and work on moving dovecot+apache2 to lua5.4 (unless it turns out impossible). Then we could completely move to 5.4 and demote 5.3 as well. And we could make ibus-libpinyin a sync again then (see bug 1909665). [Bug 1909665] Re: [MIR] ibus-libpinyin dependencies
Hi, Generally the server-team would be ok with Lua5.4 - but we need to avoid adding more and more versions concurrently. For older Lua versions being held in main I found: - apache2-bin depends on lua5.2 - dovecot depends depends on lua5.3 If those two could move to lua5.4 we could have "just one" lua version supported. It seems that isn't too trivial as it took time to get 5.1 dropped (bug 1324062). And we currently have 5.2/5.3 in main at the same time. Vice versa as long as the servers that made us support lua5.[23] can't move on to a new version I'd prefer to stick to lua5.3 which (thanks to Gunnar) right now works fine in ibus-libpinyin. I filed a bug 1910372 against apache2/dovecot for it to get rid of 5.2 at least. And to (further down the road) we can jointly move to 5.4 later. For ibus-libpinyin I'd ask to keep it at lua5.3 as it is now until bug 1910372 is resolved to the extend that we know if apache2/dovecot will be able to move to 5.4 sometime soon (<=22.04 for example) ** Changed in: lua5.4 (Ubuntu) Assignee: Christian Ehrhardt (paelzer) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: lua5.4 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909665 Title: [MIR] ibus-libpinyin dependencies To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lua5.4/+bug/1909665/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

But in that fraction fromdate|todate and regressions +would happen to take place. +And vice versa - if a jq user does not use those conversions it should +be a no-op for him. + +Another regression could be if users were aware and added workarounds +(like doing -1 after the conversion). Obviously by fixing this it would +then be -1 off afterwards. + + + [Other Info] + + * n/a + + --- + When trying to build jq locally it FTBFS for me since the unit tests that run during the build and check the output of fromdate fail: Testing 'fromdate' at line number 642 *** Expected 1425599507, but got 1425603107 for test at line number 644: fromdate Testing 'strptime("%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ")' at line number 646 Testing 'strptime("%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ")|mktime' at line number 650 *** Expected 1425599507, but got 1425603107 for test at line number 652: strptime("%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ")|mktime This is caused by this upstream bug https://github.com/stedolan/jq/issues/2001 which was fixed by this upstream commit https://github.com/stedolan/jq/commit/3c5b1419a278dfb192666b33197dc182c670290d but this fix is not yet in 1.6-2 as shipped in Ubuntu. [Bug 1898077] Re: [conntrackd][plugin] add conntrack info
> If one has a plugin_options in /etc/sos/sos.conf specific to former name 'conntrackd' (e.g skip the plugin, enable the plugin, ...) well it won't be effective anymore, and one would need to update their config file to reflect new reality of the plugin name change. But it's very uncommon to see users using such plugin options. Very unlikely to happen. Thank you for calling this out. For a normal package I don't think this would be acceptable as it's straightforward to simply not rename the plugin in the SRU. But for sosreport I think it's OK, given that it's run manually by users only in special circumstances and as you say it's unlikely that this will actually affect anyone. > +# Collect info from conntrackd This change seems to have disappeared in the backport to Bionic, but it doesn't matter so I left it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898077 Title: [conntrackd][plugin] add conntrack info To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sosreport/+bug/1898077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1898904] Re: Calibre crashes at startup with AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'cancel'
Thanks for releasing a fixed package. BUT, could you consider using a release version of calibre instead of a development version at a kind of random state. I see, that at the time focal was released there was no 5.x version available, but meanwhile official 5.x releases are. For a LTS version it's IMHO not a good idea to go with a development version, where other bugs might be still in or there might be a good chance calibre plugins are broken with this version. In the ubuntu dev list https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2020-October/041236.html the debian caliber maintainer provided a 5.2 version for focal. I'm using it since he released it and it works fine. [Bug 1909133] Re: HP laptop battery is not recognized or correctly managed
UPDATE: after committing some further research, I discovered other Linux distro's also suffer from this bug. Turns out HP's BIOS is locked and users are unable to let it report battery statuses to non-Windows operating systems. A possible solution is using the distro without the battery indicator, and plug in the charger based on the side LED which starts to blink at 10%. Another option I used is enable WSL with a GUI or working with virtualization. This way, the battery status can be checked through Windows. Waiting for an official response from HP, as a reaction to several complaints from their customers, or a BIOS update enabling the ability of battery status reporting. Until then, I will use WSL as temporary workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909133 Title: HP laptop battery is not recognized or correctly managed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/1909133/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It looks like this failure comes from this "hugetlbfs sealing" test case: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/724978457fe29626bb6ce78e6c324c9d2648dcf7#diff-4e7dd2f5018b2be2ef6b3decbbb301809019580254f09335a85506a27cdc5b79 And this test case is part of the following kernel commit: [0/6] memfd: add sealing to hugetlb-backed memory https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/cover/846262/ Maybe next is to check if these patches can make this test pass. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910277 Title: core dump in hugetlbfs_test in 5.8.0-34.37 ADT test failure with linux 5.8.0-34.37 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-kernel-tests/+bug/1910277/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1632027] Re: New Document feature missing from Nautilus 3.20+
Adding templates file to ~/Templates works for Nautilus 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1 (Ubuntu 20.04), but the right context menu is not available if one has no more empty space left in the window to right click (say when you display a directory with 50+ files in it).
