[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)

2020-12-31 Thread Jon
I can deterministically reproduce this crash with Wireguard on the RPI3
running 20.10 and hence using the lan78xx driver on eth0. A few minutes
of browsing public web sites on a client connected through Wireguard to
the RPI3 crashes the RPI. Changing nothing except for running
Wireguard's forwarding through wlan0 rather than eth0 does not result in
any crashes. So certainly seems to indicate that the wired ethernet's
lan78xx driver shipping today with 20.10 is the culprit causing these
crashes.

[Bug 1909736] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 crashed with ext4 error after waking laptop from sleep

2020-12-31 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

I wake-up my laptop from sleep (opened laptop lid) and I noticed my WiFi
connection was not working and also Bluetooth mouse was not working (in
settings it looked Bluetooth was of).

I tried to turn on Bluetooth but nothing happened. Then suddenly black
screen appeared with some ext4 messages all over the screen. Then I have
hard reset laptop and now it booted normally and works normally.

Now I have executed bellow commands that I have found to collect after
similar "crash" appears:

journalctl -b-1 > freshprevboot.txt
lspci -kv > lspci.txt

[Bug 1909736] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 crashed with ext4 error after waking laptop from sleep

2020-12-31 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1909736/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1909729] Re: Remaining time while running "sudo apt upgrade"

2020-12-31 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The design here is different from the download progress, yes. The
download progress has to deal with potentially long times whereas the
cache unlocking only needs to wait for a number of seconds you can count
(unless it's waiting indefinitely..., but even then I'd expect you'd
have stopped earlier and revisited that later), its also closely related
to percentage with the maximum of 120 in non-interactive cases.

I believe that for the max timeout of 120s a seconds based approach
makes more sense, and arguably we need that for the interactive one for
consistency too. In terms of progress, this also jumps around less.

I have not analysed this further, but I also vaguely recall some size
constraints in terms of the length of the string and how it fits into
standard 80 character width terminal.

2020-12-31 Thread grofaty
This problem has never appeared before and I am using Ubuntu 20.04 for
months on this laptop. I don't know how to reproduce this problem. I try
to close laptop lid and opened it for several time and everything works
like it has thousand times in last few months.

I changed package name to Linux. I have also executed:
apport-collect 1909736
from terminal

can you try booting without secureboot also as a test? if you can reproduce

[Bug 1909744] [NEW] FTBFS ring-clojure depends on itself

2020-12-31 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

ring-clojure 1.6.2-4 currently fails to build on Hirsute [1], because it
depends on libring-core-clojure (>= 1.6.2-3) (which is one of its own
binary packages). It looks like the previous version failed to build for
other reasons [2], so it is thus not available to build the newer one.

[Bug 1908756] Re: Ubuntu 20.10 - elfutils unwinding broken for s390 compat

2020-12-31 Thread Frank Heimes
** Description changed:

+ SRU Bug Template:
+ =
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * There is an endianess problem in pid_memory_read that impacts s390x.
+
+ * Due to this elfutils biarch test fails on s390x doing unwinding for a
+ 32 bit process.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ * e4d985a3c1c873f77d20fa0cd421458cc2824996 e4d985a3 "IBM Z: Fix endianess
problem in pid_memory_read"
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Have an Ubuntu Server 20.10 system or newer installed on LPAR, z/VM or KVM
that comes with elfutils 0.181 or 0.182.
+
+ * Run the test script: 'run-backtrace-native-biarch.sh'
+
+ * It either core dumps without the patch in place - look for
"/test-subr.sh: line 84: 376822 Aborted (core dumped)" or succeeds.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * If the translation is not done right (shift of the upper 4 bytes + down on
big endian 64 bit targets) the situation is broken in the same way, and things
stay the same.
+
+ * But in worst case the changes in 'pid_memory_read' of
/libdwfl/linux-pid-attach.c could have a negative impact even on architectures
other than s390x, in case the check for the endiness is wrong.
+
+ * But the changes are quite traceable and the additional code that fixes the
endianess problem is really only active on a big endian architecture.
+
+ [Other]
+
+ * The fix is upstream accepted with elfutils > 0.182.

The patch applies cleanly ontop of elfutils_0.181-1.

strace right now is not built with unwinding support for IBM Z although both
variants should work - libdw and libunwind.

Other distros use libdw from elfutils while Ubuntu on x86 appears to use
libunwind. libdw and libunwind do support IBM Z.

It would be good to build strace with unwinding support for Z.

[Bug 1909748] [NEW] Apparmor profile improvements for letsencrypt

2020-12-31 Thread Paul McEnery
Public bug reported:

I can see that the slapd apparmor profile goes 90% of the way to working
out of the box with letsencrypt/certbot, but fails to include
abstractions/ssl_keys. The attached patch should work support all the
methods in these abstractions, and should be the default with the slapd
package.

Please can you look at including this in future?

Many thanks,
Paul.

[Bug 846628] Re: gnu sort extremely slow in non C locale

2020-12-31 Thread Torsten Bronger
I noticed a speed improvement by changing LC_ALL from “C.UTF-8” to “C”
from 22s to 1.3s. This is huge, and should not be ignored.

My setting: I call sort in a Dockerfile, derived from the official
“python” base image. It sets LANG to “C.UTF-8”. Thus, my setting is
not exotic.

While I don’t really understand why UTF-8 encoding has that much impact
on sorting performance, it may well be. However, this should be
mentioned in the documentation in my option. Something like “Note that
anything but plain C local may have significant impact on sorting
performance” should occur somewhere in the man and info pages.

[Bug 1574612] Re: Random hangs

2020-12-31 Thread Tony Beaumont
I have this same problem with the UI freezing up. It always occurs when
I resize a window, although not every time I resize a window. The app
running inside the window isn't always the same, it is more often a code
editor or a web browser, or a zoom meeting. The result is that the UI
freezes up completely, although audio continues running so if I am on a
video call I can still talk to people, or if I am playing something with
audio, I can continue to hear it. Something seems to be going on with
the machine because after a few seconds the I hear the fan turning on.

I'm running an up to date 20.04.1 LTS and the kernel is
5.4.0-58-generic. GNOME version is 3.36.8, windowing X11 and it's a
64-bit install. My laptop is Hewlett-Packard HP ZBook 17 G2/2255, BIOS

This turns out to be due to python-dbg being previously installed.
Since I am moving to python 3 anyway, all of the python 2 package will
be shortly removed. Removing just the dbg package first allows the
20.04 update to complete.

[Bug 1909751] [NEW] random character strings shown instead of filenames for google drive files

2020-12-31 Thread Lois Overvoorde
Public bug reported:

I am using:

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
gnome-online-accounts 3.36.0-1ubuntu1

What I expected to happen

- I can upload a file from my google drive folder and send it via gmail
or discord with the correct filename

- I can open a file in a text editor, e.g. Atom or Text Editor, and I
see the correct filename at the top. The correct file extension is
present, so syntax highlighting happens automatically.

What happened instead

- If I try to upload a file from my google drive to send via discord or
gmail, its name is shown as a string of characters rather than the
filename I gave it. This is seen by the recipient, who may be confused
and perceive the file as untrustworthy.

- If I open a file in a text editor, again, the filename is replaced by
a string of characters. The extension is lost, meaning that there is no
syntax highlighting.

Filenames are in this format:

/run/user/1000/gvfs/google-
drive:host=gmail.com,user=/1X5Mk7KFgoZwLYg7kIav01vmpuCCtHBiG/1nTYem85uKuaQ80uQWa3IFQvpcd4HQOnK/1U2or6nAMsTmYYNjnLrXiFQb02xjEfp5q/16HFBxCJPTF_sI_CmLCaBHrQeG7I1NtNB

I expect what I am seeing is how google stores the files 'under the
hood', but this is causing some issues on the outside.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2020-12-31 Thread GizmoChicken
@Wolfgang: No worries. And as an early and vocal critic of the
"$HOME/snap" directory (see post #14, for example), I share your
frustration. But I've come to realize that devs truly want to, and are
working to, resolve the issue. We (the users of this FREE software)
just need to be patient. And for those of us who can't be patient,
removing snapd remains an option. As for me, I'll keep snapd for now,
and continue to wait patiently for an eventual fix. :)

[Bug 1871456] Re: Files on desktop don't use custom icon

2020-12-31 Thread Linda
When I upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04, this happened.

Before upgrading I had one file on the desktop with a custom icon.
After upgrading, the custom icon was no longer showing, and it showed a
general-looking text file icon. When I right-clicked and opened its
"Properties", it showed the icon, and if I clicked on the icon,
navigated to the icon file, and clicked "open", nothing changed.

I went to Dash -> Tweaks (gnome-tweaks) and toggled the Extensions ->
Desktop Icons to on, and I rebooted.

The custom icon still does not show on the desktop. After the reboot, I
again right-clicked on the file, went to "Properties", and reassociated
the file with its custom icon. But still, it doesn't show the icon on
the desktop. As the original poster of this bug mentioned, it's
possible to get the icon to show in the file browser.

[Bug 1909753] [NEW] Can't update system when using mirror:// repo

2020-12-31 Thread Dmitry Lapshin
Public bug reported:

I use mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt as Ubuntu package
repository on my laptop, since I used to (thanks to COVID) travel and
wanted to use fastest mirror whenever possible. It works great, however
do-release-upgrade/update-manager both fail with those: they report as
if ubuntu-minimal package is missing (and I've checked that isn't the
case in all mirrors chosen by mirror://). So for last 3 updates or so I
have to manually switch mirror:// repository to some regional http://
one, then update-manager does it's thing, then I switch back and
everything works as expected.

I think that behaviour of do-release-upgrade can be fixed.

[Bug 1909760] [NEW] Ubuntu Server 20.04 64 bit on Raspberry Pi 4 - unable to use installed desktop

2020-12-31 Thread Juliane
Public bug reported:

This bug is the same as described here for another Ubuntu-Server-
version: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1209145/unable-to-boot-to-
desktop-after-installing-ubuntu-19-10-1-on-raspberry-pi-4-and

I could confirm this bug using Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB and ubuntu-20.04.1
-preinstalled-server-arm64+raspi.img

- Installing Ubuntu server works fine. I did updates etc.
- Then I could run (without errors): sudo apt install lubuntu-desktop
- After sudo reboot, I couldn't get to the login-screen (a more detailed
description is given in above link)
- Installing other desktops like ubuntu-desktop didn't change anything

This happened two weeks ago. I gave up at this point and used Ubuntu-
Desktop-image instead, but I think this bug should be fixed.

2020-12-31 Thread William Murray
Another error state is monitors stay black with cooling fan(s) at
normal slow speed. This has happened after the screens go dark from
inactivity. Such as monitors in power saving mode. Press enter key,
monitors stay dark. Again use reset switch on case to restart system.
Do not recall this behavior before update to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. Good
thing Chrome is good at recovering open tabs and windows. :).

[Bug 1898077] Re: [conntrackd][plugin] add conntrack info

2020-12-31 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * The plugin conntrackd is renamed to conntrack.
+ (enabled automatically per installed packages.)

- * Added the following
- conntrack commands to the plugin.
- conntrack -L -o extended
- conntrack -S
+ * Added the following conntrack commands to the plugin,
+ which run on default and other network namespaces:
+
+ conntrack -L -o extended
+ conntrack -S

  [Test Case]

  * Install sosreport
- * sosreport -a will exercise 'conntrack' plugin if one of the following
packages installation is met: ('conntrack-tools', 'conntrack', 'conntrackd'),
+
+ * sosreport -a will exercise 'conntrack' plugin if one of the following
+ packages installation is met: ('conntrack-tools', 'conntrack',
+ 'conntrackd'),

  * Alternative way to exercise the plugin :
    ** 'sosreport -o conntrack'
    ** 'sos report -o conntrack'

  * Then a sosreport tarball will be generated under /tmp
- * Extract that said tarball, and look under
/path_to_sosreport/sos_commands/conntrack/
+
+ * Extract that said tarball, and look under
+ /path_to_sosreport/sos_commands/conntrack/

And one should see 2 new files, one for each new commands added by this
- command.
+ command, for the default and other network namespaces.

  [Regression Potential]

  * The plugin is renamed from 'conntrackd' to 'conntrack'.
If one has a plugin_options in /etc/sos/sos.conf specific to former name
'conntrackd' (e.g skip the plugin, enable the plugin, ...) well it won't be
effective anymore, and one would need to update their config file to reflect
new reality of the plugin name change. But it's very uncommon to see users
using such plugin options. Very unlikely to happen.

  * conntrack -L -o extended
Show the connection tracking table in /proc/net/nf_conntrack format

  * conntrack -S
     -S, --stats
Show the in-kernel connection tracking system statistics.

The new commands addition are harmless, and if a problem arise it will
be isolated to the 'conntrack' plugin and won't affect other plugins nor
  sosreport core functionalities.

[Bug 1901555] Re: [plugin][networking] Include ns ip neigh and ip rule info

2020-12-31 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * sosreport currently does not collect commands
+'ip neigh' and 'ip rule' for network namespaces,
+which are used with e.g., openstack neutron.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Create network namespace(s) (eg, ns1, ns2, ns3)
+$ sudo ip netns add ns1
+$ sudo ip netns add ns2
+$ sudo ip netns add ns3
+
+ * Run the sosreport networking plugin
+$ sudo sos report -o networking --batch
+
+ * Check the sosreport tarball for per-netns files
+('ip_netns_exec__') for the commands
+'ip -s -s neigh show' and 'ip rule list'
+
+ * See comments 4, 5, 6 for examples.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The patch adds commands to the networking plugin,
+thus any issue should be contained within/happen
+on it.
+
+ * Errors in running such commands aren't a problem,
+and should be logged by sosreport anyway.

Re: [Bug 1874161] Re: kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2020-12-31 Thread Lester Hightower
KeepassX version 0.4.4 and earlier use *.kdb (V1).

KeepassX version 2.0.0 and higher use *.kdbx (V2).

I do now know what your problem is, but you might want to try keepass2,
keepassxc, and/or read about "Version 4 of the KDBX file format is
unsupported" here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/kpcli/files/

[Bug 257135] Re: notify-send(1) can't replace an existing notification

2020-12-31 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
I ended up using the answer in Ask Ubuntu:
https://askubuntu.com/a/871207/307523

The basic concept is you link your message to the last message you sent
with an extra line:

 -h string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:anything

Where 'anything' is the string/text grouping your spamming bubbles
together so fast repeating one replaces the one before (in that same
group).

Code snippet from within larger while loop:

GetVolume
CurrVolume="$?"
# echo CurrVolume: $CurrVolume LastVolume: $LastVolume

if [[ "$CurrVolume" != "$LastVolume" ]] ; then
# Ask Ubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/a/871207/307523
notify-send --urgency=critical "tvpowered" \
-h string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:volume \
--icon=/usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/devices/audio-speakers.png \
"Volume: $CurrVolume"
LastVolume=$CurrVolume
VolumeCnt=10
# TODO: Process VolumeCnt internally in loop instead of larger loop
fi

if [[ $VolumeCnt > 0 ]]; then
(( VolumeCnt-- ))
SleepTime=.01
else
SleepTime=2.5
fi

sleep $SleepTime

In the link comments point out how this only works in Ubuntu and not in
Gnome. It works fine in Ubuntu 16.04.7 LTS with Unity desktop but I
haven't tried it on other desktops yet

SleepTime of '0.01' is too small for real time but the bash script has
overhead of communicating to TV over WiFi which gives it about the '0.5'
seconds lag.

I'm thinking we should pipe that logfile to post in this thread and see
how long it takes to get attention. :D

[Bug 1909773] [NEW] Touchpad speed reverts to default and natural scrolling is deactivated after wake-up from a suspend

2020-12-31 Thread snowboard975
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04
Hardware: Dell XPS 15Z

What I expect to happen: The touchpad speed and natural scrolling
settings should remain the same after a wake-up from a suspend. Please
refer to the attached picture for the touchpad speed and natural
scrolling settings that were set before a suspend.

What happened instead: The touchpad speed was reverted to default one,
and the natural scrolling was deactivated after wake-up from a suspend.
In the setting window, the setting looks the same as before, but the
actual touchpad speed is reverted to default one (middle speed), and the
natural scrolling is deactivated.

[Bug 1909776] [NEW] Left Mouse Button Sometimes Gets Stuck in Unity same as bug #1040844

2020-12-31 Thread Massimo
Public bug reported:

It seems like this is an old bug and I'm noticing only in the last few
months.

Sometimes, after I leave my PC on or after a standby, my left mouse
button seems stuck in two appimage applications (freecad 0.18.4 and cura
4.8.0).

I found no way to workaround this if not just after a reboot.

Thanks in advance,

Massimo

[Bug 1899066] Re: Dual boot UbuntuMATE 18.10 fails after Ubuntu 20.04 update - Bad Signature

2020-12-31 Thread Richard J Uschold
I noticed a typo in the original description. UbuntuMATE 18.10 fails to
dual boot after Ubuntu 20.04 update.

** Summary changed:

- Dual boot Ubuntu 18.10 fails after Ubuntu 20.04 update - Bad Signature
+ Dual boot UbuntuMATE 18.10 fails after Ubuntu 20.04 update - Bad Signature

** Description changed:

After a recent Ubuntu 20.04 update, (between Oct 1 and Oct 7, I have
- been unable to dual boot to Ubuntu 18.10. Ubuntu 20.04 still boots. This
- happens on TWO different computer I have. The reason I run 18.10 is
- because bug: "hfs+ filesystems fail reading / writing large files" has
- yet to be fixed. Once a week I backup my system to a HFS+ formatted USB
- Flash drive. I need this to transfer files to my Mac Mini.

+ This happens on TWO different computers I have. The reason I run 18.10

+ has yet to be fixed. Once a week I backup my system to a HFS+ formatted
+ USB Flash drive. I need this to transfer files to my Mac Mini.

The exact error is: Bad Signature /boot/vmlinix-4.18.0-25generic you
will need to reload the kernel first.

I tried booting in the safe mode. Same error.
I tried booting version vmlinix-4.18.0-24generic, same error.

Obviously, my 18.10 kernel CAN'T have changed, as it is well beyond being
updated.
Thus, I suspect that some signature file was updated WITHOUT some older
signatures.

sudo ppa-purge ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa

Let us know how it works.
