[Bug 1902406] [NEW] ubiquity kubuntu 20.10 install screens truncated

2020-11-01 Thread Gene Soo
Public bug reported:

Performing the installation of Kubuntu 20.10 from kubuntu-20.10-desktop-
amd64.iso, the installation screens exceed the size of the available
window. In the initial windows, data is missing to the right while the
"Install Kubuntu" button is visible. Starting on the next screen
"keyboard Layout", the "Back" button is visible however the "Continue"
button is off-screen and requires the user to drag the window to the
left to see that button in order to proceed. This now positions the
window to possibly see subsequent buttons positioned on the lower right
of succeeding panes but now the Installation progress data in the
leftmost column of the panes is now not visible. The user will have to
scroll left to see that information. All of the other ubuntu
distributions ensure that local scrolling is not required to navigate
through the install process.

[Bug 1902421] [NEW] High I am having issues on Xubuntu 20.04 revolving around WiFi

2020-11-01 Thread Mitch
Public bug reported:

Hello out their, I seem to be having some issues related WiFi on my
Xubuntu 20.04 install.

My main issue is that my WiFi connection on my Xubuntu install versus my
Windows 7 Starter install is a lot slower. Currently the highest speed I
have gotten on Xubuntu has been 10mbps, I was getting around 30-50mbps
on Windows. I tried editing the default-wifi-powersave-on.conf and
setting it to 2 because that seemed to be a commonly recommended answer,
but doesn't seem to be helping. I have also tried using "Additional
Drivers" to try and see if their was another driver available to no
avail.

A user on the Xubuntu IRC chat (tomreyn) suggested a few things and we
collected this info about my wireless chipset, I hope it helps:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DbhNsN9JsD/

Thanks for any help in this matter!

[Bug 1902424] [NEW] iwlwifi missing firware for intel ax201

2020-11-01 Thread donaldinho
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 does not have the correct firmware for the Intel ax201 wifi
6 wireless card

This affects both the 5.4 and 5.8 kernels shipped with Ubuntu 20.04

currently ubuntu has this version of the firmware
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-48.ucode

Kernel 5.4 is looking for iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-50.ucode

Kernel 5.8 is looking for iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-56.ucode

both kernels load iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-48.ucode as a fall back but
having the latest firmware is desirable

[Bug 1902427] [NEW] systemd pauses for unspecified reason

2020-11-01 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Kubuntu 20.04 on a new Ryzen 3900X system. I
noticed that the boot time (time between entering LUKS credentials and
appearance of login screen) took more than 1 minute.

Using `systemd-analyze`, I found the following:

This didn't really help, but `systemd-analyze plot > boot.svg` produced
an SVG file (see attachment) that shows a gap between store.mount
(completes within 38 ms) and apparmor.service of almost 1:30 minutes.
What did systemd do during this gap?

I think it is either a bug in systemd that idles, or in systemd-analyze
that doesn't disclose the actions in that gap.

(Note: I have posted this question in two well-known Ubuntu forums, but
I didn't receive any answers.)

[Bug 1902428] [NEW] launchpad assigns wrong package

2020-11-01 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

Anytime I submit a bug report where I know and fill in the package,
Launchpad will replace the package by the previously entered package,
yielding incorrect package information.

[Bug 1899509] Re: Mouse/touchpad settings not applied on hotplug/reconnect

2020-11-01 Thread whochismo
I think I am also experiencing this bug.

I have a bluetooth trackpad (Magic Trackpad 1 by Apple), and since a few
weeks ago, the scrolling direction is reversed by default, and the tap
to click feature is disabled.

I can go to the trackpad settings and everything is alright. I can
disable and re-enable these settings, and it works fine once again, but
only until the next reboot, where I have to do the same thing again.

[Bug 1902429] [NEW] uvcdynctrl unconditionall starts a debug log that can fill the /var partition

2020-11-01 Thread Gordon Lack
Public bug reported:

Bug 1:

/lib/udev/uvcdynctrl sets:

debug=1

which means that it creates /var/log/uvcdynctrl-udev.log and logs its
startup and environment there and each invocation.

There is no related logrotate.d file to rotate this log, and there is no
option to switch it off.

Bug 2:
related to the above is the fact that this script runs uvcdynctrl at the end,
with the log still open.
For my webcam *this* will occasionally (once every few days) get into a loop
reporting:

[libwebcam] Warning: The driver behind device video0 has a slightly buggy impl$
of the V4L2_CTRL_FLAG_NEXT_CTRL flag. It does not return the next higher
control ID if a control query fails. A workaround has been enabled.

This eventually (quickly?) fills the /var partition. The one I've just
obtained was >8GB in size and contained > 116 million lines.

Note that even having a logrotate.d script to rotate logs wouldn't help
with this.

Here's a copy of the start of the log file produced.

Imagine the last line being repeated foreever (or at least until your
/var partition was full).

[Bug 1902428] Re: launchpad assigns wrong package

2020-11-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1902428/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1902434] [NEW] The "rbd" module is missing from linux-modules-XXX-kvm in groovy

The rbd module is missing from the linux-modules-*-kvm package

I don't believe I can get this module from any of the other extra packages ie:

currently no extra's package for kvm.

[Bug 1902436] [NEW] Mouse slow in fractional scaling

2020-11-01 Thread Sevi
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell XPS 17 with a 3,840 x 2,400 screen and an external monitor
with 3840 x 1600 resolution. When I use only one of them it works
totally fine. I use the external monitor without scaling and my notebook
display with fractional scaling of 150%. But when i want to use both at
the same time, my mouse starts to be slow. So in this scenario i have
the external monitor at 100% and the notebook screen at 150%. Everything
works fine expect the mouse which is slow,on both screens. What I found
is, when i set both my screens to 200% while fractional scaling is
enabled. The issue is gone. Same with 100%. But as soon as I start using
fractions, the mouse is slow again. I don't believe it is an power issue
because my hardware is mostly in idle. Also, i tried different mouses
over Bluetooth and USB but no change.

I am currently using 20.10 but had the same issue with 20.04. But when i
use Wayland, the problem is gone.

[Bug 1902436] Re: Mouse slow in fractional scaling

2020-11-01 Thread Sevi
I forgot to say that this problem is only with the external mouse. With
the touch pad, i have no issue.

I have an RTX 2060 Max-q in my notebook with Nvidia driver installed but
it is deactivated as on demand. But even if I enable this card, it has
no effect.

I believe that because of the fractional scaling, the reading of the
input device gets somehow mixed up.

[Bug 1902432] Re: Carte son non detectée pourtant vu dans le terminal (son sortie fictive)

2020-11-01 Thread Chloé BREDON
I am on an ASUS X555BP initially Windows 8 then update for Windows 10.
Following a modification by myself on the graphics card (update) there was an
incompatibility so I went on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS by usb key . I am in 64 bits
under gnome 3.36.3. No problem to play a video etc except that the sound does
not come out. In the terminal I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Pulse
Audio, Alsa etc. It is able to give me the name of my graphics card when I
query it through sudo lspci A9-9420 radeon r5, 5 compute cores 2c + 3g × 2 but
no card is detected when I type aplay -l.
Normally the operating system automatically installs drivers compatible with my
graphics card so I don't know what to do. According to apt-cache I am using apt
2.0.2ubuntu0.1 (amd64) and I have also struggle with my computer's load
detection. It accepts to be in charge once in ten which did not happen before.
My computer was checked by a computer scientist, I have no hard drive or
motherboard problem.

** Summary changed:

- Carte son non detectée pourtant vu dans le terminal (son sortie fictive)
+ Sound card not detected yet seen in the terminal (fictitious output sound)

** Description changed:

[Bug 1721987] Re: No sound from right audio channel

2020-11-01 Thread Todd Patt
I was still having problems with my Lenovo Legion laptop, this is one of
the pages where I stopped in and tried everything on it, to no avail. It
looks like the specific issue here was fixed, and any other info I found
on the internet was not working either.

Turns out that by default, headphone jack had right channel turned all
the way down! Here's what I did to fix:

Open terminal window. Execute command: sudo alsamixer
This is a terminal-based application that allows you to change audio output
levels for different ports. You may need to press F6 to select your sound card
-- mine was selected when I started the application. Basically Master and PCM
all had both left and right channels maxed into the red zone. Headphones ONLY
had the left channel. Press the right-arrow on your keyboard to go over to
Headphones, then press the up-arrow repeatedly and the right channel level
should increase, take it to the max with the left channel. Exit Alsa Mixer with
the escape key.

This fixed it but then the audio in the right channel, for whatever
reason, was extremely quiet. I went into Ubuntu's basic sound settings
window (Settings > Sound). I made sure I had the "Headphones - Built-in
Audio" selected in the dropdown box for Output, then drug the balance
slider all the way to the left and let go of mouse button. Then all the
way to the right and let go of mouse button. Then back to the middle and
let go of the mouse button.

Now it was working and sounded great! I went back into alsamixer one
more time, and noticed the right channel on the headphones had dropped a
tiny notch compared to the left. I put it back to max, and exited Alsa
Mixer.

I now have no problems with my headset! If you're still struggling even
though this bug fix was released a year ago, try my simple suggestion
before you go all crazy editing files. It might save you many hours of
internal screaming :)

[Bug 1902437] [NEW] `rm -i` doesn't work well if "language-pack-es" is installed. Problems arise

2020-11-01 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

Dear people,

SUMMARY
After "deleting" files, sometimes users will have great problems because, for
example, important information has not been deleted and users don't know it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Install the "language-pack-es" package, reboot.
Execute `touch 1; rm -i 1`
See that you are asked "rm: ¿borrar el fichero regular vacío '1'? (s/n)" (it
means "do you want to delete the empty file 1?").
Press the S key (that means the same as pressing the Y key in the
English-speaking version)
Press Return.
See that the file is not deleted, and you don't know about it.

EXPECTED RESULT
As always has happened, pressing the S key and Return would have deleted the
file.
Note: Pressing the Y key and Return really deletes the file.

Linux: Ubuntu 20.10
Note: The bug doesn't happen using Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1902438] [NEW] Installing 20.10 from SD card on Dell 7390 Developers Edition Fails on Grub Install

2020-11-01 Thread Matt
Public bug reported:

Live booted from 20.10 installer on SD card on Dell 7390 Developers
edition.

20.10 Install fails at grub install no mater which disk MBR install is
set to (Error on Grub-install says insufficient space).

My hunch, but not a lot of evidence to prove it, is that it is trying to
install MBR / grub on currently live-mounted SD card, and failing,
despite confirming the MBR setting on the installer screen is set to
internal drive multiple times and retrying.

(Note - I had a Previously working 20.04 install, so I don't think my
EFI Partition is corrupt, and it has plenty of space).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848829

This bug affects all ubuntu version since I think 18.04
The problem is that upgrader tries to use UbuntuDistroInfo object (child of
DistroInfo) in unsupported way. I believe it is upgrader issue.
At least one class of the upgrader, namely: DistUpgradeQuirks tries to call
version field and get_all method of DistroInfo object and there are neither of
them there.

The reason I think it's upgrader issue is this code I found in above
class, this is the source of te installer failure.

def _get_from_and_to_version(self):
di = distro_info.UbuntuDistroInfo()
try:
self._from_version = \
di.version('%s' % self.controller.fromDist).split()[0]
self._to_version = \
di.version('%s' % self.controller.toDist).split()[0]
# Ubuntu 18.04's python3-distro-info does not have version
except AttributeError:
self._from_version = next(
(r.version for r in di.get_all("object")
 if r.series == self.controller.fromDist),
self.controller.fromDist).split()[0]
self._to_version = next(
(r.version for r in di.get_all("object")
 if r.series == self.controller.toDist),
self.controller.toDist).split()[0]

[Bug 1878674] Re: apt purge snapd fails in LXD (on amd64)

2020-11-01 Thread Thiago Martins
I can also confirm this too! Here is a list of problems that I'm seeing
with snap inside LXD containers:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1288779/the-snapd-package-fails-to-
upgrade-inside-of-ubuntu-20-04-lxd-container

At first, "apt update ; apt full-upgrade" fails... Then, I thought,
let's remove this `snapd` thing. Nop, doesn't work either!

Here is the error when I try `apt remove --purge snapd` inside of an LXD
Container:

https://pastebin.com/TTj4Z4Jp

Johan, do you mind sharing how are you removing snapd out from your
containers?

Thanks!

TB Samsung HDD

sda3: swap

SW: Ubutu 20.04.1 LTS completely installed & configured for me

Riggt after a system update via Apt-get at the next boot the / partition
/dev/sda2 was checked for bad sectors. The result is the / is clean. But
no next step, the previous installed & configured X system is not able
to start. I am able switch to the next consoles & log in, the character
based Ubuntu is working but the X server does not work.

I tried to re-write the appropriate GRUB menu item with nouveau graphic
driver but that trick was not work.

My guess is that the during the APT-GET the the graphic driver was upgraded and
something went wrong.
I enclose dmesg and several kind of logs. Please give me a feedback at least on
what is the direction I should go. Thanks.

[Bug 1883457] Re: Thumbnails for .xcf files only show in Gimp ( snap ) and nowhere else.

2020-11-01 Thread Coeur Noir
I have finally ended up with binding both « thumbnails » folders through
fstab adding those lines :

# .xcf thumbnails from gimp snap for anyone
/home/user_1/.cache/thumbnails/
/home/user_1/snap/gimp/common/.cache/thumbnails/nonebind0 0
/home/user_2/.cache/thumbnails/
/home/user_2/snap/gimp/common/.cache/thumbnails/nonebind0 0
/home/user_3/.cache/thumbnails/
/home/user_3/snap/gimp/common/.cache/thumbnails/nonebind0 0

This way, Gimp-snap actually writes its thumbnails there and then Nemo
and Nautilus accordingly displays thumbnails for .xcf files.

gThumb though still shows empty frames for .xcf files - but my main
concern was the file explorer.

in my case reinstalling distro-info doesn't help I compared the code of both
packages and spoken class DistroInfo is exactly the same.
I think that upgrade scripts are outdated, not distro-info package.
In above snippet there is a comment saying:
  # Ubuntu 18.04's python3-distro-info does not have version
however the workaround provide for that is also wrong because Ubuntu 18.04's do
not have also get_all()

[Bug 1753509] Re: avahi-daemon adds/installs every printer on network

2020-11-01 Thread Wladimir Mutel
This bug surely does not belong to "cups-filters" package. And probably
it does not belong to Avahi. And to CUPS either. This bug does belong to
GTK library and GTK apps which do not provide an option like "list only
local CUPS printers, not everything Avahi has sniffed on the network".

Avahi is right in its actions, and there are other software relying on its
"enable-dbus" option.
GTK as library is wrong in having this option enabled by default, and probably
some of GTK apps have now learned to override this option properly (that is, in
usable and understandable way for an end user).

[Bug 1902398] Re: 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 - Files shared via Samba are shown as folders

2020-11-01 Thread jsquared
** Summary changed:

- Files shared via Samba are shown as folders
+ 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 - Files shared via Samba are shown as folders

** Summary changed:

- 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 - Files shared via Samba are shown as folders
+ Files shared via Samba are shown as folders - 4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2

** Description changed:

Similar symptoms to Bug #1872476, however issues occur even with the
patched version of the Samaba package (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2).
+
+ Ubuntu 20.04, Samba pkg 4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 (latest in repo)

  [Symptoms]
   - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from MacOS, some files are
represented as directories.
   - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from Windows, these same files
are shown as directories, with a gray "X" over the folder icon.

  [Scenario / steps to reproduce]
   - Clean install of Ubuntu 20.04
   - Install Samba package thru apt
   - Create Samba share pointing to folder on local filesystem
   - Access Samba share from MacOS machine
   - Observe that some or all files in the share are displayed as folders
   - Using Terminal on MacOS, cd-ing to the affected directory and running ls
-al shows drwx, e.g. "drwxr--r--- 1 user group 2263221 Jul 21 2020
DSC_0524.JPG" despite DSC_0524.JPG being a file rather than a directory.
   - Copying any of these "files" to the MacOS machine's local filesystem will
result in the file remaining a directory.

Curiously, I've observed the behavior on only certain directories within
a given Samba share. For example, I have a "media" share on my NAS, with
3 directories - Movies, TV, and Photos. In this Samba share, only the
Photos directory exhibits the bug in question, which affects all files
in the root of Photos as well as any files in any subdirectories.
However no files in the Movies and TV directories in the root of the
  Samba share are affected.

Also, this particular Samba share was running for approx 9 days before
the bug took affect. No configuration changes were made (at least user-
initiated ones) between normal operation and the issue starting.

Re: [Bug 1898389] Re: browser frequently crashing with trap int3

2020-11-01 Thread Jim Cline
the new version of Chromium seems to be a disaster when I try to go to
full screen in YouTube. It scatters parts of the screen amongst my
various virtual desktops and creates a huge mess, forcing me to kill
chromium from the command line.

[Bug 943107] Re: package matlab-support 0.0.17 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2020-11-01 Thread Artem
I have same situation. I tried to install matlab and found an app in
Ubuntu Software with matlab in the name. But, unfortunately, it was an
app for installing matlab when you downloaded an installation package(or
smth like that). I didn't have matlab package on my computer. So, after
I update packages I see the same problem.

Just found out that this issue might be fixed in kernel 5.9. How could I
install 5.9 kernel and test this? I have secure boot enabled so the
mainline kernels are not working.
