[Bug 1901312] Re: tpm module malfunctions

2020-10-26 Thread bluppfisk
Hello Woodrow

I think already at steps 1 and 2 something's going wrong:

1. sudo cp /sys/kernel/security/tpm0/binary_bios_measurements ~/temp/
Killed

(a 0-byte file now exists with this name in ~/temp/ - I assume it will
be of no use to include it here)

$  sudo fwts tpmevlogdump
Running 1 tests, results appended to results.log
Test: Dump Tpm2 Event Log.
Killed Tpm2 Event Log.

$ cat results.log
Results generated by fwts: Version V20.09.00 (2020-09-17 18:08:13).

This test run on 26/10/20 at 08:10:05 on host Linux tuhao2 5.4.0-52-generic
#57-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 15 10:57:00 UTC 2020 x86_64.

Command: "fwts tpmevlogdump".
Running tests: tpmevlogdump.

tpmevlogdump: Dump Tpm2 Event Log.

Test 1 of 1: Dump Tpm2 Event Log.

tpm0

Happy to go on with step 3 if it is still necessary (I'd rather not
reboot right now if not necessary yet because I'd have to restart some
work)

[Bug 1901187] Re: Keyboard layout switch problem

2020-10-26 Thread Andrew Khalymon
Reproducible on desktop system (Lenovo Thinkstation S30) with Ubuntu 20.04.1
LTS with Gnome Shell 3.36.4-1ubuntu1~20.04.2.
Steps: log in, physically unplug USB keyboard, plug it again.
Keyboard switchers show the switching happens, but layout is not changing
actually.

It's also reproducible on Thinkpad X230 with exactly the same package versions.
Keyboard is Logitech K780, same for both systems. I've also tried another
keyboard (some A4Tech one), the problem is reproducible with it too.

It's not reproducible for me with suspend and resume, only in the
conditions mentioned above.

Here is dmesg output from my system during keyboard plug/unplug.

I can provide additional information if needed.

this is the log after resuming, where no audio devices are available
post-resume except the internal SPDIF. so this bug has gotten
significantly worse in the move from 20.04->20.10.

[Bug 1901480] [NEW] Custom storage does not refresh to reflect changes

2020-10-26 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

20.04.1, Custom storage layout

This view does not refresh when underlying changes have occurred,
whether using the "Reset" option, or using 'Back' to move back through
the pages.

Specific scenario is related to "Unable to add a GPT partition with
400+GB free space" bug #1901478

After using Help > Root Shell and using gdisk to create a partition with
the free space, and ensuring the kernel's view of the device is updated
(confirmed via /proc/partitions), there appears no way to cause the
installer to refresh its information and therefore it continues to
report only 4 partitions and 400GB free space when there are 5
partitions and 0 free space!

[Bug 1746629] Re: [MIR] libbluray

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
[Summary]
This looks ok from a MIR POV and you have my Ack IF you can outline a reasonable
use case that benefits from libbluray WITHOUT also promoting libaacs0.
Please do to in a comment on this bug.

This does also need a security review, so I'll assign ubuntu-security
now.

List of specific binary packages to be promoted to main:
 - libbluray-dev
 - libbluray2

Required TODOs:
- Please double check that without libaacs0 this is still really a useful
use-case to Ubuntu users. Speak up here and outline what use-cases will
  benefit without libaacs0.

Recommended TODOs:
- Add some self-tests, see suggestions how to do so below

Note: we ship it with the readme already in universe, there is the inherent
issue of potential piracy issues being considered related with such libs.
But we already ship it (main/universe should not make a difference), we
include the disclaimer and this lib does not do any decoding. So it
should be fine in that regard to the MIR process.
Also from upstream to quote: "Legal: libbluray is DRM-circumvention free,
and thus, safe to integrate in your software."

[Duplication]
No other lib seems to provide this funcitonality.
Yet the approach to take libbluray2 but drop the libaacs0 recommends
likely ends up in only support for non-commercial blue rays.
>From the description:
Most commercial Blu-Ray are restricted by AACS or BD+ technologies and this
library is not enough to playback those discs.
With that in mind is it worth to have libbluray2 "alone"?

[Dependencies]
OK:
- no other Dependencies to MIR due to this (if we keep the bd-j things out)
- -dev shall be promotes and -doc has no critical dependencies

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- history of CVEs does not look concerning
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

Problems:
- does not parse data formats
It will need to parse blue-ray disks (or images) and could be exploited that
way. Security should have a look to be sure.

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- The package has a team bug subscriber (desktop team)
- no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)?
- not a python/go package, no extra constraints to consider int hat regard

Problems:
- does not have a test suite that runs at build time
- does not have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
There are soem test tools like ./src/examples/libbluray_test.c that is even
shipped with the examples. It shouldn't be too hard to provide some self
created m2ts file along that and have an autopkgtest that
1. builds the example against libbluray-dev
2. runs the program to get info from the test file

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking is in place
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is ok
- Debian/Ubuntu update history is ok
- the current release is packaged (a sync and 1.2.1 is in unstable)
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- not part of the UI for extra checks

[Bug 1901482] [NEW] E: Can not write log (Is /dev/pts mounted?) - posix_openpt (19: No such device)

2020-10-26 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

20.04.1, when applying updates, 'full log' is reporting for every
package install:

E: Can not write log (Is /dev/pts mounted?) - posix_openpt (19: No such
device)

This should either be corrected (by mounting devpts into the /target/ or
redirecting the error to /dev/null to avoid causing the administrator
wasting time trying to determine if there's a fault with the
installation.

[Bug 1901242] Re: virt-manager local directory storage failing

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The XML virt-manager creates is listed as (in virt-manager XML view when
creating it):

  home

/home

That is the same as:

$ virsh pool-create-as --print-xml --name home --type dir --target /home

  home

/home

But interestingly the command to create it works fine:
$ virsh pool-create-as --name home --type dir --target /home
Pool home created

It appears an old Nvidia driver and an old kernel are installed. So it
sounds like the upgrade has not completed. Please try:

  sudo apt update

  sudo apt full-upgrade

then reboot and try installing the Nvidia driver again using the

[Bug 1901242] Re: virt-manager local directory storage failing

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Tracing libvirtd and checking what really "appears int he request" I see
that:

the console request (that works) has:
debug : virStoragePoolCreateXML:564 : conn=0x7f39640040b0,
xmlDesc=
  home

/home

, flags=0x0

The request from virt-manager for what should be the same has:

debug : virStoragePoolDefineXML:607 : conn=0x7f39640042b0, xml=
  home

/home

, flags=0x0

The difference is not in the XML content, but the function called.
virStoragePoolCreateXML vs virStoragePoolDefineXML

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think most of us agree it was an undesirable change. It was made by
the upstream developers a couple of years ago now. The reasoning is
detailed in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/158

We can't just reintroduce nautilus-desktop either. The change was huge,
a long time ago (so can't just be reversed) and there's nobody to
support it.

But I totally agree nautilus-desktop was better than gnome-shell-
extension-desktop-icons.

[Bug 1901242] Re: virt-manager local directory storage failing

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I was switching my commandline to use a more equivalent sequence which
is using define+start instead of a direct create:

$ virsh pool-define-as --name home --type dir --target /home --print-xml
$ virsh pool-start home
$ virsh pool-destroy home
$ virsh pool-undefine home

But now I get it still working:
debug : virStoragePoolDefineXML:607 : conn=0x7efd580040a0, xml=
  home

/home

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-26 Thread Adam Dingle
Adam Niedling: That's a long story. Very briefly, about 2 years ago the
GNOME project, which develops Nautilus, decided to remove support for
desktop icons from Nautilus, controversially:

  https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/01/gnome-desktop-icons-removed-3-28

Ubuntu still wants desktop icons, so it needs to implement them in some
other way, and so it uses the Desktop Icons shell extension.

As Paddy mentioned above, there is a newer version of Desktop Icons
called Desktop Icons NG, which is under active development:

  https://gitlab.com/rastersoft/desktop-icons-ng

I myself run Desktop Icons NG too. It is still a long way from having
all the functionality of Nautilus, but it is slowly getting better.

I also hope that Ubuntu will switch to Desktop Icons NG sooner or later.

[Bug 1901242] Re: virt-manager local directory storage failing

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Ok, now that I knew what to look for I guess I found it.

#1 Workaround (other than installing cockpit) for now can be a commandline call
like:
$ virsh pool-create-as --name home --type dir --target /home

#2 testing without virt-manager
$ virsh pool-define-as --name home --type dir --target /home --print-xml >
home.xml
$ virsh pool-define home.xml
$ virsh pool-build home
error: Failed to build pool home
error: unable to control COW flag on '/home', not btrfs: Function not
implemented
$ virsh pool-start home

This is upstream issue:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1866157

Which has a fix at:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commit/2edd63a0dbd445112db23596ee0128521e8f1ff5

This is fixed in libvirt >=6.7

I'll need Ubuntu 21.04 be "fully open" for development first, then fix it in
21.04 (libvirt changed to meson, that can be a bit of work).
Once fixed in 21.04 we can consider an SRU of the change for 20.10 (Groovy).

Thanks @ Mauro for the report!

[Bug 1901242] Re: virt-manager local directory storage failing

2020-10-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Already added an SRU Template to the bug description to be ready for SRU
processing asap then.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * An upstream change in libvirt 6.6 [1] broke logic if creating a pool
+without an explicit yes/now for COW handling.
+
+ * Another upstream patch in libvirt 6.7 [2] fixes the issue.
+
+ * Backport the patch to avoid issues with tools like virt-manager but
+also with any other automation that uses define+build via api or
+cmdline
+
+ [1]:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commit/7230bc95aa78379c9ee20cf59394c5fc4305b75b
+ [2]:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commit/2edd63a0dbd445112db23596ee0128521e8f1ff5
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Define a dir pool and call pool-build:
+
+ $ virsh pool-define-as --name home --type dir --target /home --print-xml >
home.xml
+ $ virsh pool-define home.xml
+ $ virsh pool-build home
+ error: Failed to build pool home
+ error: unable to control COW flag on '/home', not btrfs: Function not
implemented
+ $ virsh pool-start home
+
+ With the fix (and with e.g. 6.0 in Focal) this works, but with libvirt
+ 6.6 missing the fix it fails as shown above.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Gladly a one line change there aren't much side effects to consider.
+It will help a certain set of use-cases and if anything could influence
+actual execution on filesystems with COW support in that case btrfs.
+Now onw might think "but hey this influences BTRFS behavior", but no it
+does not. The change is inside a "if btrfs magic" section. Therefore
+BTRFS will not change, only the non-btrfs cases (formerly broken) will.
+This is one of the rare cases I really fail to see an explicit
+regression - implicit ones e.g. due to needing a rebuild could still
+happen.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * This is upstream issue:

[Bug 1901488] [NEW] Encrypted LVM on UEFI prevents GRUB booting successfully

2020-10-26 Thread TJ
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876989 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876989

Public bug reported:

20.04.1 Encrypted LVM install, sda4 > LUKSv2 > VG > LVs

cryptsetup creates LUKSv2 containers. GRUB can only understand LUKSv1
and therefore cannot access its root device making the installation
unbootable.

Making matters worse, installer has not added GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y
to /etc/default/grub.d/local.cfg so grub-install hasn't passed the
crypto device info to GRUB's core and thus there is no cryptomount
command in /EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg

[Bug 1901491] [NEW] Created devices are not available

2020-10-26 Thread Leo
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade from 0.12.3-1 to 0.12.3-1ubuntu0.1 devices created using
v4l2loopback are no longer available for use in applications (e.g. MS Teams and
Zoom). With version 0.12.3-1 the devices would show up, e.g.
modprobe v4l2loopback video nr=2 card label="test"
would cause the new device to show up in those UIs as "test". With version
0.12.3-1ubuntu0.1 device "test" is no longer shown.
Downgrading to 0.12.3-1 fixes the problem.

[Bug 1898068] Re: SRU the current 3.34.3 stable update

2020-10-26 Thread zinaf
Came here over from bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
control-center/+bug/1870356

I have installed the -proposed updates (gnome 3.36.3) and the issue of
reconnecting to a previously paired device has been resolved, namely the
toggle switch in the gnome bluetooth section for said device works and
connects. I have subsequently tested disconnecting and reconnecting the
device. Status was correctly displayed in the desktop indicator in all
cases.

Thank you for the fix.

The Chrome reference is in comment #21.

And no it's probably not feasible to fix all apps. But then only OpenGL
apps/toolkits need fixing, which is not all apps. We only have two other
choices:

  * Don't use the Nvidia driver; or

  * Wait for Nvidia to redesign their driver
