[Bug 1897378] [NEW] liblzf backport to focal

2020-09-26 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
Public bug reported:

Please, this is a bundled library in virtualbox, now packaged as system library.
Unfortunately this is missing in focal, but we need to backport virtualbox from
time to time (due to kernel changes).

In order to avoid having a special bundled version in virtualbox again
(the library is now stripped from sources), and to introduce bugs in
packaging, I would really like to add this library (leaf) to focal

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-09-26 Thread Norbert
@ogra, @sudodus

I do not have time to read whole thread 125+ comments.

Maybe I want to help with testing, but in current 125-comment view I
can't determine which to test on which hardware, which BIOS/UEFI, which
CPU, which motherboard, which vendor, etc.

As all of you are doing this long time, please create spreadsheet
somewhere for normal comprehensive reuse and to easy the analysis. Maybe
I'll join this party.

Adding the regression-update tag because the issue in APT is triggered
by the SRU of glibc. It is not a result of a change in glibc, rather
than of glibc having been updated.

[Bug 1897379] Re: package libperl5.30 5.30.0-9build1 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2

2020-09-26 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1897385] [NEW] bzr crashed when attempting to build a package for ppa

2020-09-26 Thread Zakhar
Public bug reported:

Hello,

No need to repeat here that the documentation to properly build a
package is of appalling quality. That has been widely commented and is
probably a major hurdle why people don't "package".

Sorry, so that being said, I am using the little documentation there is
on those pages "Ubuntu packaging guide":

https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/getting-set-up.html

Environment: On a fresh 20.04 I ran the command:

Steps to reproduce: (following the above documentation from a fresh 20.04)

sudo apt install gnupg pbuilder ubuntu-dev-tools apt-file

(Which pulled a gazillion packages... but ran successfully)

gpg and ssh keys steps where already done from 16.04 and the gpg key has
been imported... this is anyway of no importance since the crash occurs
much before we need that!

Then we move to page 4 of the documentation since this is for packaging
"new software".

https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html

Now we install as instructed:

sudo apt-get install dh-make bzr-builddeb

Which successfully pulls another couple of packages.

Next step is to build a tar with all my files to compile. I use here the
same commands that works fine with 16.04 and successfully produces a tar
in /tmp/1fichierfs.tar

Then, as instructed I run:

bzr dh-make 1fichierfs 1.7.2~Focal /tmp/1fichierfs.tar

And immediately get a stacktrace:

$ bzr dh-make 1fichierfs 1.7.2~Focal /tmp/1fichierfs.tar

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-09-26 Thread sudodus
@ Norbert (nrbrtx),

When you have time and energy, please test

- a current daily iso file of a developing version of the flavour that
you like

- *cloned* to a USB drive

- in both BIOS and UEFI mode

- in the computers where you want future versions of Ubuntu flavours to
work, and that are available for you to test

and share the result here and at the iso testing tracker particularly if
you find a computer and test case, where it should work, but does not.

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails with Could not configure 'libc6:i386'. , E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'libgcc-s1:i386'

2020-09-26 Thread Alyana
I can confirm that.

Installation fails on a Notebook with Intel I7-4712MQ and Nvidia GeForce
840M.

Failed both with 20.04 LTS and 20.04.1 LTS with the option to install
the additional drivers and codecs checked.

Installation succeeded with 20.04.1 LTS when NOT choosing to install the
additional drivers.

2020-09-26 Thread Claus Appel
I have a similar problem. For me the Ubuntu 20.04 installer would
consistently crash at 90% (regardless of which hard drive I installed it
to). When I followed the instructions to report the bug, it led me here.

I was able to circumvent the problem by choosing "minimal installation"
and NOT "download updates while installing". That made the installation
succeed.

It might be caused by bad hardware on my system. I don't know.

[Bug 1889660] Re: deluge not responding to close mouse or key commands

2020-09-26 Thread Cas
Thanks for the error report

You would need to use "pkill -9 deluge-gtk" to terminate a non-responding
process.
Without that 9 signal the kill command defaults to SIGTERM which is the same as
trying to close the window, i.e. asking for a graceful terminate.

when you click files.

Is it one specific torrent that is causing the crash? If so can you

[Bug 1867092] Re: Failed to set MokListRT: Invalid Parameter

2020-09-26 Thread Chris Williamson
The day before yesterday, I got the error as originally reported, except
I was running Kubuntu 20.04, got the updates available prompt, opened
Discover, updated shim and shim-signed, waited for both the regular
software update and grub update to finish, and then restarted.

I posted a question on Ask Ubuntu, then found a CentOS bug with a fix I
was able to adapt to my own situation and answer my own question. If
you're a bug fixer, read the first note on the CentOS bug; if you've got
this same problem, read the Ask Ubuntu question and answer:

[Bug 1858881] Re: Batch mode doesn't work in version 3.0.2

2020-09-26 Thread Andy Jenkins
I can confirm that what Christodoulos has said works.

I had a look at the upstream source and I'm surprised that you found it
working on the machines you tested on. It appears that
soundconverter.batch.prepare_files_list() can't deal with the uri-
encoded filenames which are given in line 218 of bin/soundconverter.py:

files = [vfs_encode_filename(f) for f in  files]

Reverting commit 51757e "Fix filename encoding issue" (after checking
out 3.0.2) fixed batch mode for me but presumably whichever issue was
solved by this commit is reintroduced.

I can also confirm that batch mode works properly for me in version
3.1.0.

settings to get it back and still is not the same.

2. Keyboard is not accepting the first letter pressed after not being
used for a minute or more. It is like the keyboard buffer has to "wake-
up". Also keyboard response is very different.

Both my main keyboard and mouse are wired interfaces to the computer. I
have tried my alternate, Wireless keyboard and mouse and both problems
persist.

[Bug 1897395] [NEW] Ubuntu Crash constanly after last patch update

2020-09-26 Thread Víctor
Public bug reported:

It's impossible to play any game with this operating system.

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS crash and crash and crash and throw to desktop all
the fucking time.

I am thinking to delete Ubuntu and never install it again.

The patch updates are always horrible, destroy the stability of the
operating system.

With last patch, I lost the audio of my monitor, and gnome-shell or the
display I don't know what, but crash and crash and crash.

Unstable system, go to Manjaro or Debian, avoid Ubuntu if you want
stability.

[Bug 1772148] Re: Mount.cifs does not work without keyutils being installed

2020-09-26 Thread krbvroc1
I just spent days troubleshooting mount.cifs not working and ultimately
determined it was due to this bug. I could mount okay, but no id/group
mapping to the proper users would take place. All files were owned by
the mounter or the uid/gid passed to the mount command. For 'cifsacl'
option, this is not how it is supposed to work.

I started with an sssd setup which didn't work and then tried straight
samba/winbind which equally didn't work.

I use mount.cifs with the 'cifsacl' option. 'cifsacl' will use winbind
to perform the mapping. In the Linux kernel, cifsacl.c calls functions
such as 'sid_to_id' which in turn issues a 'request_key' call.

So the cifs-utils package installs
/etc/request-key.d/cifs.idmap.conf
/etc/request-key.d/cifs.spnego.conf

However the package only has a 'suggestion' of the keyutils package.
Without installing keyutils which creates the /etc/request-key.conf file
AND installs the /sbin/request-key binary, the 'cifsacl' option doesn't
work / perform the winbind mapping as it should. cifs-utils installed
the cifs.idmap.conf which requires the /sbin/request-key binary be
installed to invoke the cifs.idmap userspace helper.

If this cifs-utils does not change the keyutils to a required
dependency, then I think there at least needs to be some serious
logging/warning when a mount with cifsacl option is done to warn the
user that cifs.idmap is not going to work / be invoked.

One I installed the keyutils package, then everything worked as I
expected (and had been working on a different distro).

After enabling debugging of the cifs module, I had seen the following
messages when keyutils was not installed when accessing the mounted fs
(with cifsacl):

kernel: fs/cifs/smb2ops.c: get_smb2_acl_by_path: rc = 0 ACL len 176
kernel: fs/cifs/cifsacl.c: sid_to_id: Can't map SID os:S-1-5-21-xxx-1115 to a
uid
kernel: fs/cifs/cifsacl.c: sid_to_id: Can't map SID gs:S-1-5-21-xxx-513 to a gid
kernel: fs/cifs/inode.c: looking for uniqueid=3276811

Those debug level messages were not very helpful in indicating the
request-key was failing rather than a samba/winbind issue.

This was on a new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS install.

Some comments above indicated an 'it works for me'. However those
scenarios did not include the 'cifsacl' option, so the use of the
cifs.idmap upcall was not exercised.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-09-26 Thread Coiby Xu
Hi,

I've found out that there is something wrong with the GPIO interrupt
controller under Linux. For the details, you can check
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg69267.html. While I'm
still working on the ultimate solution, you may be interested in the
patch as attached which makes the touchpad work by polling HID reports
from the touchpad.

I've tested the patch for the Synaptics touchpad (MSFT0001:00
06CB:7F28). I guess it will also work for the Elan touchpad (MSFT0001:00
04F3:3140) based on the ACPI DSDT. If not, could you share the following
info with me,

1) dsdt.dsl

Use the following commands to get dsdt.dsl (you need to install acpica
which provides iasl)

 a) sudo acpidump > acpidata.out
 b) acpixtract -sSSDT acpidata.out
 c) acpixtract -sDSDT acpidata.out
 d) iasl -da dsdt.dat ssdt*.dat

2) dmesg dump when booting kernel with the following command line
parameters

i2c-designware-core.dyndbg=+p i2c-hid.debug=1

Thank you!

[Bug 1894613] Re: risc-v 5.8 kernel oops on ftrace tests

2020-09-26 Thread Colin Ian King
git bisect good
cfafe260137418d0265d0df3bb18dc494af2b43e is the first bad commit
commit cfafe260137418d0265d0df3bb18dc494af2b43e
Author: Atish Patra
Date: Tue Mar 17 18:11:43 2020 -0700

RISC-V: Add supported for ordered booting method using HSM

Currently, all harts have to jump Linux in RISC-V. This complicates the
multi-stage boot process as every transient stage also has to ensure all
harts enter to that stage and jump to Linux afterwards. It also obstructs
a clean Kexec implementation.

SBI HSM extension provides alternate solutions where only a single hart
need to boot and enter Linux. The booting hart can bring up secondary
harts one by one afterwards.

Add SBI HSM based cpu_ops that implements an ordered booting method in
RISC-V. This change is also backward compatible with older firmware not
implementing HSM extension. If a latest kernel is used with older
firmware, it will continue to use the default spinning booting method.

[Bug 1894378] Re: Cannot boot after updating kernel to version 5.4.0-45

2020-09-26 Thread Ami
@ishinberg0, as achille-fouilleul wrote, this is probably a different bug.
A few questions you can ask to make sure of that:

- Do you get any error message at all?
- Which nvme items do you see in /dev when in BusyBox, and which ones when you
boot normally using kernels that work for you?
- Do you see the problematic controller when running lspci (see crysman's
comment)?

Good luck!

[Bug 1897404] [NEW] Elantech Touchpad not working w/ Synaptics Driver

2020-09-26 Thread T Parys
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

2) Package linux-image-5.4.0-48-generic

3) Expected to upgrade to 20.04 with existing hardware already supported

4) Upgraded with odd, erratic behavior from laptop touchpad (Elantech).
Tap to click did not work, but scrolling did. After toying with
settings, tap to click starting working, but scrolling stopped working.

I found a link which provided a fix for me, which was uninstalling the
xorg-input-synaptics package, and forcing the system to use libinput
instead. the user Pilot6 suggested this was a kernel bug and to file a
bug report accordingly.

[Bug 1897394] Re: Please sync gcc-mingw-w64-x86-64 (10.1.0-3+23) from debian Bullseye

2020-09-26 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

Since the Groovy release is fast approaching, I suppose this will need a
FreezeException, please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess

Also, based on the version number (22~exp1ubuntu4) this package
currently has an Ubuntu delta. I haven't checked if those changes have
been included in the Debian package, but if they aren't the package
cannot be synced but need to be merged manually to preserve the changes.

I don't claim to be an expert, but if possible, remove gnuradio (and
gnuradio-dev) and reinstall it after upgrade. That's what looks to be
causing the cascade of errors in your apt log.

Let me/us know if that works.

[Bug 1869115] Re: python sys.path different per user account - ImportError no module named (Focal)

2020-09-26 Thread OwN
This is now an issue in Ubuntu 18.04 as well. I'm guessing whatever
broke was backported into 18.04 as well.

See these scripts as examples:

Version for 18.04 and 20.04:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/earnolmartin/EHCP-Force-
Edition/master/ehcp/etc/pam/pam_dbauth_vsftpd_ubuntu_20_plus.py

Version for 16.04:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/earnolmartin/EHCP-Force-
Edition/master/ehcp/etc/pam/pam_dbauth_vsftpd.py

Difference is that in 18.04 and 20.04, I must set the path in the
script:

sys.path.insert(0, '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages')
sys.path.insert(0, '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages')

If I do not, I get this error:

recent call last):

No problem. I prefer clean installs (or rolling release distros)
myself.

[Bug 1612916] Re: [Tohsiba Portege Z20T-C] Internal speakers don't work after standby

2020-09-26 Thread Michael
Only workaround is to not use suspend to ram, but suspend to disk.

Seems to only happen on systems that upgrade from 16LTS to 18LTS to

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-09-26 Thread John Hoff
@PowerKiKi

PowerKiKi, I had to reload my pc for another project, and after
reloading I found that same lack of stickiness... Not wanting to go
backwards, I felt I had to chase down the full fix. This should fix
your issue (caused by pulse) if you want to skip the background audio
file...I also improved the Daemon script to ensure later execution and
added a second daemon to run the script on suspend/restore. With this
setup I have not had to manually run the script in a week or so. Its
like sound just works normally now...

Fresh Install Setup Steps

sudo apt-get install alsa-tools
Rename alsa-base to bkup/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
placed TO912.sh script with verbs and set as 777 +x
create and placed $ sudo chmod 664 /etc/systemd/system/ionsound.service

[Unit]
Description=Custom Sound

[Service]
Type=idle
ExecStart=/home/ion420/Hoff/Linux_Files/Ion_Audio/TO912.sh

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

create and placed $ sudo chmod 664
/etc/systemd/system/ionsoundsleep.service

[Unit]
Description=Custom Sound Sleep Fix

[Service]
Type=idle
ExecStart=/home/ion420/Hoff/Linux_Files/Ion_Audio/TO912.sh

[Install]
WantedBy=suspend.target

activate
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable ionsound.service
sudo systemctl enable ionsoundsleep.service

turn off pulse idle
sudo gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa
Add comments to ### load-module module-suspend-on-idle

verify script runs at boot and sound works ..

Re: [Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-09-26 Thread Juan Avila
It's not working for me using nvidia graphic card. The only way to work around
is to use lightdm instead of gdm3, but I can't login automatically.
I started using Ubuntu budgie in dual boot until the bug is fixed.
I tried Kubuntu and the bug is also in Kubuntu.
