They're crashing. It looks like, that graphical software is unstable, but problem is in the kernel. For example - using Blender is totaly unstable. I was looking for a solution. I updated my IdeaPad-5-15ARE05 to 5.7.10 (https://kernel.ubuntu.com /%7Ekernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D) with NO LUCK! Brightness isn't working at all. I noticed that when I hit the brightness button (either - or +) sometimes the icon of the microphone appears on the screen instead of the brightness icon (see attached) Finally, on this page > https://askubuntu.com/a/1251189/70172 one user suggests that updating the BIOS solved the issue for him (But I'm on Ubuntu, and Lenovo only provide Windows .exe updater > https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and- netbooks/5-series/ideapad-5-15are05/downloads/DS544050) Any help would be much appreciated, as with max brightness makes it impossible to use the laptop in the evening. ** Attachment added: "mic pic when adjusting brightness.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1881462/+attachment/5395881/+files/mic%20pic%20when%20adjusting%20brightness.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881462 Title: Brightness settings don't work on Lenovo Ideapad 5 15ARE05 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1881462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1792300] Re: Speech Synthesis Not Working
User activation has been added to my trick for Chromium: http://www.lonniebest.com/CardTrick/ As Olivier pointed out, the issue remains that speechSynthesis (a web standard that major browsers support in other operating systems) is not working Kubuntu 20.04 or Ubuntu 20.04. These are long term support releases. Where is the support? I reported this two years ago. What about the visual impaired people that depend on speechSynthesis? To reproduce this bug, open Chromium on any web page and then hit ctrl-shift-I. At the console type (or copy/paste): speechSynthesis.speak(new SpeechSynthesisUtterance("Testing 1 2 3")); If you do not hear your browser speak "Testing 1 2 3", the bug is not fixed. Try the same test on Windows 10 to experience speechSynthesis working as expected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792300 Title: Speech Synthesis Not Working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1792300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1888984] [NEW] Please Fix SpeechSynthesis in LTS Releases of Kubuntu and Ubuntu
Public bug reported: This bug is more the fault of the Kubuntu and Ubuntu than it is Mozilla. Firefox supports the web standard for speechSynthesis, but it doesn't work in Kubuntu 20.04. This did work in Ubuntu 16.04 and does also currently work in Window 10. Like I said, it is web standard that should work in every browser. To reproduce this bug, open up any web page using Firefox and hit ctrl- shift-I (to bring up the console of Firefox). Then, copy and paste the following text into the console and press enter: speechSynthesis.speak(new SpeechSynthesisUtterance("Hello, I can speak"); This bug means that all web pages, on the internet, that use speechSynthesis do not function as intended on Kubuntu 20.04 and Ubuntu 20.04. If you'd like to hear speechSynthesis in action, go to this web page using Firefox on Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04 (where the instructions will be spoken to you using Speech Synthesis web standard): http://www.lonniebest.com/CardTrick/ 20.04 is a Long Term Support release. [Bug 1866365] Re: Missing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la file
Unfortunately, when trying to get ImageMagick 7 + php-imagick to work on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, one of the steps of the compilation requires /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la. I guess that for some arcane reason, ImageMagick 7 won't be supported until (hopefully) groovy is out, but that doesn't mean that some of us don't need it *now*. ImageMagick 7 was released in April 2016 — that's well over four years now — has had 6688 commits to GitHub and 227 releases as of today, so it's definitely very robust and mature code, and supported by almost every other distribution I'm aware of (including macOS via Homebrew!), so I hardly understand why it has been absent from Ubuntu for so long. Still, I guess that's the decision of someone else, and the point is that we have no other option than to compile it from sources — and that inevitably means dealing with things such as libfreetype.la to be present in the system... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866365 Title: Missing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freetype/+bug/1866365/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1447968] Re: ImageMagick is missing JPEG2000 support (needs to be built with openjpeg)

[Bug 1888988] [NEW] man page for netdiscover doesn't describe option -N
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04.4 man page for netdiscover doesn't describe switch -N, the switch to suppress headers when output is sent to stdout. I have found this when I was looking for a way how to store discovered devices to a file. Recommended solution is to use -PN switch and redirect output to a file, like this: `$sudo neddiscover -i eth0 -PN | tee netdicover.log` This is not perfect solution but it is usable. It would be nice to have a switch that will create a detailed log file with timestamps. Such logfile is necessary on bigger network where many devices are connected and the discovered devices just cannot fit to a single screen... Anyway, this bug report is about "-N" switch that is missing in manpage. It is described at help output from netdiscover: ``` $ netdiscover -h Netdiscover 0.3-pre-beta7 [Active/passive arp reconnaissance tool] Written by: Jaime Penalba Usage: netdiscover [-i device] [-r range | -l file | -p] [-m file] [-s time] [-n node] [-c count] [-f] [-d] [-S] [-P] [-c] -i device: your network device -r range: scan a given range instead of auto scan. 192.168.6.0/24,/16,/8 -l file: scan the list of ranges contained into the given file -p passive mode: do not send anything, only sniff -m file: scan the list of known MACs and host names -F filter: Customize pcap filter expression (default: "arp") -s time: time to sleep between each arp request (milliseconds) -n node: last ip octet used for scanning (from 2 to 253) -c count: number of times to send each arp reques (for nets with packet loss) -f enable fastmode scan, saves a lot of time, recommended for auto -d ignore home config files for autoscan and fast mode -S enable sleep time supression between each request (hardcore mode) -P print results in a format suitable for parsing by another program -N Do not print header. Only valid when -P is enabled. -L in parsable output mode (-P), continue listening after the active scan is completed If -r, -l or -p are not enabled, netdiscover will scan for common lan addresses. ``` ** Affects: netdiscover (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888988 Title: man page for netdiscover doesn't describe option -N To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netdiscover/+bug/1888988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1888992] [NEW] [Realtek ALC892, Green Headphone Out, Front] Not detecting/switching to front jack after plugging in headphones
Public bug reported: I boot my system without any sound devices plugged into any jacks; checking Gnome settings Sound, Output Device is "Dummy Output" (no other options available in drop-down list). I plug in headphones into the front jack and play some audio, but do not hear any sound from the headphones; checking Gnome settings Sound, the Output Device is still "Dummy Output", with no other options available. This is a regression from previous behaviour, when plugging in headphones into the front jack would automatically enable/switch to the front jack and its associated controller "Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) HD Audio Controller" (this is the motherboard's onboard audio hardware). I can currently workaround this each time I plug in the headphones by installing and running pavucontrol, and under Configuration selecting "Analogue Stereo Output (unplugged) (unavailable)" - this option becomes "Analogue Stereo Output" after I select it. This seems to be a regression in pulseaudio after an upgrade from from 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.3 to 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.5.
