[Bug 1888979] [NEW] Installer crashed while installing Ubuntu 20

2020-07-26 Thread Sourabh Das
Public bug reported:

The installer crashed while creating partition for Ubuntu on a pre existing
windows OS. The primary hard disk was partitioned into 3 parts and Ubuntu was
being installed on a partition other than C drive. I tried to assign 125 GB to
Ubuntu out of 200 GB free space on the partition.
The crash cited temperature issues while installing.

[Bug 1888981] [NEW] i915 Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0

2020-07-26 Thread Petr Nosek
Public bug reported:

Hi,

  there is a bug in Linux kernel. Problem is with graphic card.

  I see these lines in dmesg:

[ 1269.113618] i915 :00:02.0: GPU HANG: ecode 9:1:0x87f99eb9, in blender
[7901], hang on rcs0
[ 1269.114626] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0

  And graphical software are very unstable. They're crashing. It looks
like, that graphical software is unstable, but problem is in the kernel.

  For example - using Blender is totaly unstable.

  I was looking for a solution. I found some discussion and there was
written, kernel >5.5 is solution. So I tried kernel 5.7.7 and bug still
persist. Kernel 5.7.7 was installed from Ubuntu repository. Log from
kernel 5.7.7 is attached.

  Modeling in Blender for an 30 minutes is the best way, how to
repruduce this bug.

[Bug 1885359] Re: FTBFS: circular dependency golang-github-viant-{assertly, toolbox}

2020-07-26 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Great!

I pondered forwarding the report to Debian, but it seemed like all the
packages built fine there, so I assumed it had already been
bootstrapped.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-github-viant-
toolbox/0.33.0-10 was synced to groovy-proposed which built
successfully. Since it is a new package I suppose someone needs to
approve it, but once that is in I reckon the rest of the packages will
build in short time.

your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1881462] Re: Brightness settings don't work on Lenovo Ideapad 5 15ARE05

2020-07-26 Thread sulliwane
I updated my IdeaPad-5-15ARE05 to 5.7.10 (https://kernel.ubuntu.com
/%7Ekernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D) with NO LUCK! Brightness isn't working
at all.

The brightness buttons change the value in this file:
"/sys/class/backlight/ideapad/brightness" (from 1 to 21) but not
effective.

I noticed that when I hit the brightness button (either - or +)
sometimes the icon of the microphone appears on the screen instead of
the brightness icon (see attached)

Finally, on this page > https://askubuntu.com/a/1251189/70172 one user
suggests that updating the BIOS solved the issue for him (But I'm on
Ubuntu, and Lenovo only provide Windows .exe updater >
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/5-series/ideapad-5-15are05/downloads/DS544050)

Any help would be much appreciated, as with max brightness makes it
impossible to use the laptop in the evening.

[Bug 1792300] Re: Speech Synthesis Not Working

2020-07-26 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
User activation has been added to my trick for Chromium:
http://www.lonniebest.com/CardTrick/

As Olivier pointed out, the issue remains that speechSynthesis (a web
standard that major browsers support in other operating systems) is not
working Kubuntu 20.04 or Ubuntu 20.04. These are long term support
releases. Where is the support? I reported this two years ago. What
about the visual impaired people that depend on speechSynthesis?

To reproduce this bug, open Chromium on any web page and then hit ctrl-shift-I.
At the console type (or copy/paste):
speechSynthesis.speak(new SpeechSynthesisUtterance("Testing 1 2 3"));

If you do not hear your browser speak "Testing 1 2 3", the bug is not
fixed. Try the same test on Windows 10 to experience speechSynthesis
working as expected.

[Bug 1888984] [NEW] Please Fix SpeechSynthesis in LTS Releases of Kubuntu and Ubuntu

2020-07-26 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

This bug is more the fault of the Kubuntu and Ubuntu than it is Mozilla.
Firefox supports the web standard for speechSynthesis, but it doesn't
work in Kubuntu 20.04. This did work in Ubuntu 16.04 and does also
currently work in Window 10. Like I said, it is web standard that should
work in every browser.

To reproduce this bug, open up any web page using Firefox and hit ctrl-
shift-I (to bring up the console of Firefox). Then, copy and paste the
following text into the console and press enter:

speechSynthesis.speak(new SpeechSynthesisUtterance("Hello, I can
speak");

This bug means that all web pages, on the internet, that use
speechSynthesis do not function as intended on Kubuntu 20.04 and Ubuntu
20.04.

If you'd like to hear speechSynthesis in action, go to this web page using
Firefox on Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04 (where the instructions will be spoken to
you using Speech Synthesis web standard):
http://www.lonniebest.com/CardTrick/

20.04 is a Long Term Support release. Please fix this!

No, it's not. There have been no changes since I opened the bug.

We need to carry a delta to add the conflicts/replaces for the old
Ubuntu package, or push that to Debian.

[Bug 1866365] Re: Missing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la file

2020-07-26 Thread Gwyneth Llewelyn
Unfortunately, when trying to get ImageMagick 7 + php-imagick to work on
Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, one of the steps of the compilation requires
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la.

I guess that for some arcane reason, ImageMagick 7 won't be supported
until (hopefully) groovy is out, but that doesn't mean that some of us
don't need it *now*. ImageMagick 7 was released in April 2016 — that's
well over four years now — has had 6688 commits to GitHub and 227
releases as of today, so it's definitely very robust and mature code,
and supported by almost every other distribution I'm aware of (including
macOS via Homebrew!), so I hardly understand why it has been absent from
Ubuntu for so long. Still, I guess that's the decision of someone else,
and the point is that we have no other option than to compile it from
sources — and that inevitably means dealing with things such as
libfreetype.la to be present in the system...

[Bug 1849591] Re: mcomix failed to run after upgrading to 19.10

2020-07-26 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. 19.10 recently reached end of life. I
tried to reproduce this on Ubuntu 20.04 with mcomix
1.2.1mcomix3+git20200206-1 and it seemed to start without problems.
Could any of you check with Ubuntu 20.04 and see if the problem still
occurs?

[Bug 1447968] Re: ImageMagick is missing JPEG2000 support (needs to be built with openjpeg)

2020-07-26 Thread Gwyneth Llewelyn
Aw. No fix for focal?... Anyway, I hope that groovy bumps ImageMagick to
7 like all other Linux distributions out there (as well as macOS via
Homebrew and FreeBSD). After all, IM 7 has been around since April 2016,
it's very mature code these days, after 227 releases (as of the date of
writing), and it seems sort of strange why it has not been supported
under Ubuntu...

thank you, people - restarting (Alt-F2 > r) indeed gets rid of the window.
Do we know what causes it?
How to fix?

Ubuntu 20.04 running Gnome-Vanilla desktop with nvidia-driver
is this related to snap by any chance? Or to the new disk that I added to my

can I provide any logs?

cheers

[Bug 1888988] [NEW] man page for netdiscover doesn't describe option -N

2020-07-26 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.4

man page for netdiscover doesn't describe switch -N, the switch to
suppress headers when output is sent to stdout. I have found this when I
was looking for a way how to store discovered devices to a file.
Recommended solution is to use -PN switch and redirect output to a file,
like this:

`$sudo neddiscover -i eth0 -PN | tee netdicover.log`

This is not perfect solution but it is usable. It would be nice to have
a switch that will create a detailed log file with timestamps. Such
logfile is necessary on bigger network where many devices are connected
and the discovered devices just cannot fit to a single screen...

Anyway, this bug report is about "-N" switch that is missing in manpage.
It is described at help output from netdiscover:

```
$ netdiscover -h
Netdiscover 0.3-pre-beta7 [Active/passive arp reconnaissance tool]
Usage: netdiscover [-i device] [-r range | -l file | -p] [-m file] [-s time]
[-n node] [-c count] [-f] [-d] [-S] [-P] [-c]
  -i device: your network device
  -r range: scan a given range instead of auto scan. 192.168.6.0/24,/16,/8
  -l file: scan the list of ranges contained into the given file
  -p passive mode: do not send anything, only sniff
  -m file: scan the list of known MACs and host names
  -F filter: Customize pcap filter expression (default: "arp")
  -s time: time to sleep between each arp request (milliseconds)
  -n node: last ip octet used for scanning (from 2 to 253)
  -c count: number of times to send each arp reques (for nets with packet loss)
  -f enable fastmode scan, saves a lot of time, recommended for auto
  -d ignore home config files for autoscan and fast mode
  -S enable sleep time supression between each request (hardcore mode)
  -P print results in a format suitable for parsing by another program
  -N Do not print header. Only valid when -P is enabled.
  -L in parsable output mode (-P), continue listening after the active scan is
completed
If -r, -l or -p are not enabled, netdiscover will scan for common lan
addresses.
[Bug 1888990] [NEW] Lift/Gamma/Gain Causes Render to Crash
2020-07-26 Thread Sam Colegrove
Public bug reported:
I do video editing of the output from 3 Digital Cameras which all supply MTS
files.  My problem was that one of the camera settings led to a dark image.  So
I used Lift/Gamma/Gain to correct this so that I could switch between two other
cameras.  When I went to render the Kdenlive file, the render process crashed.
The output that I got using a reduced length file for locating the bug was:
"Rendering of /home/aurora/Videos/Untitled.mp4 crashed
[Bug 1888991] [NEW] Ubuntu upgrade failed
2020-07-26 Thread Kevin Hill
Public bug reported:
The upgrade process failed with the gui and requested to use the ppa-purge and
gave a message regarding the wireguard ppa.
I removed all the additional ppa's and the ran sudo do-release-upgrade which
[Bug 1867916] Re: Regression in kernel 4.15.0-91 causes kernel panic with Bcache
2020-07-26 Thread Sebastian Marsching
We don’t have any systems with Xenial any longer, so I can’t test there.
In fact, just this week we decommissioned the Bionic-based system where
I originally discovered this bug, so even there, I can’t test it any
longer.
[Bug 1888992] [NEW] [Realtek ALC892, Green Headphone Out, Front] Not detecting/switching to front jack after plugging in headphones
2020-07-26 Thread Francis Chin
Public bug reported:
I boot my system without any sound devices plugged into any jacks;
checking Gnome settings Sound, Output Device is "Dummy Output" (no other
options available in drop-down list). I plug in headphones into the
front jack and play some audio, but do not hear any sound from the
headphones; checking Gnome settings Sound, the Output Device is still
"Dummy Output", with no other options available.
This is a regression from previous behaviour, when plugging in
headphones into the front jack would automatically enable/switch to the
front jack and its associated controller "Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) HD
Audio Controller" (this is the motherboard's onboard audio hardware).
I can currently workaround this each time I plug in the headphones by
installing and running pavucontrol, and under Configuration selecting
"Analogue Stereo Output (unplugged) (unavailable)" - this option becomes
"Analogue Stereo Output" after I select it.
This seems to be a regression in pulseaudio after an upgrade from from
1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.3 to 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.5.
[Bug 1866365] Re: Missing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.la file
2020-07-26 Thread Hugh McMaster
I just built ImageMagick 7.0.10 from the latest upstream git source
without any issues.
I also don't have freetype's .la file on my system, but as I said, it's
not needed.
I'm building on Debian Sid, so there's a slight difference in packages.
I'll spin up a Ubuntu 20.04 VM and try building again to make sure this
isn't the difference.
Are you sure the issue isn't with php-imagick?
[Bug 1888996] [NEW] NetworkManager crashes with segfault after July 2020 updates
2020-07-26 Thread Sec Aficionado
Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 18.04 upgraded from 16.04 in 2018. System was working fine until
latest batch of updates/patches.
PC boots up without issues, but there is no network when desktop
appears. dmesg does not show any problems related to network. It appears
network simply does not attempt to start. When trying to start network-
manager manually, it crashes with segfault.
Network does start manually with: sudo ip link set dev eno1 up
Followed by: sudo dhclient -v eno1
NetworkManager applets say "something went wrong"
Output of lsb_release -rd:
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release:18.04
Output of apt-cache policy pkgname:
network-manager:
  Installed: 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.4
  Candidate: 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.4
  Version table:
 *** 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.4 500
 1.10.6-2ubuntu1 500
   500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
What I expected to happen:
System should boot up normally and have network available, via DHCP
What happened instead:
System boots up, network is not configured, there are no errors, but
NetworkManager crashes upon manual start.
version 3.36.4-0ubuntu1.
As per text case, I was able to send emails between the accounts that I
have set up in Evolution, view existing entries in the Calendar and
create new Calendar entries which were viewable in other applications
such as Lightning and my email provider's web interface.
