[Bug 1886911] Re: Bionic rev 7906 fails to build against v5.4 kernels

2020-07-09 Thread You-Sheng Yang
In theory this may also happen on Eoan as it has rev 7906 as well, but
since there is no plan to backport 5.4 kernel into Eoan, marking it as
WONTFIX instead.

** Description changed:

- TBD.
+ With v5.4 kernel backported into Bionic, now backport-iwlwifi-dkms may
+ need corresponding updates to be able to build against v5.4 kernel.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-07-09 Thread sudodus
Cloned Groovy USB drives boot again, at least in some of my computers
:-)

+ I tested in my Dell Precision M4800 and it works as usual in UEFI mode
(and via grub) in BIOS mode.

- But the Lenovo V130 does not boot in UEFI mode and secure boot - When
I select the USB drive from the temporary menu, it skips to the internal
drive. This is a different failure mode compared to the previous iso
files. (This computer is willing to boot from the grub-n-iso system of
comment #26 and from cloned drives made from groovy iso files from
June.)

https://dustinweb.azureedge.net/media/494085/v130.pdf

+ I tested in my Toshiba laptop, and it works as usual in UEFI mode with
and without secure boot (and via grub) in BIOS.

http://www.toshiba.se/laptops/satellite-pro/c850/satellite-pro-c850-19w/

+ It works in a HP Probook 6450b with an Intel i5 M520 CPU, tested only
in BIOS mode.

Oh. If you don't have a /boot/firmware then that will cause all sorts of
issues when upgrading kernel and kernel-related packages. You don't - by
any chance - have some logs from when /boot/firmware was removed?

What's the output of 'mount' from that system? And what does
'/etc/fstab' look like?

Guess I found the reason for this misbehaviour. To use xbacklight I

standard modesetting driver. This causes the issue. Back to standard

** Description changed:

  Hi,

When booting into kernel 4.15.0-99-generic or higher and also kernel
5.3.0-53-generic or higher, the system hangs when issuing the reboot
command or CTRL-ALT-DEL from console with the following console
  messages:

  -- snip
  Reached target Final Step.
  Starting Reboot...
< following message repeats indefinetely every 120 seconds >
INFO: task systemd-shutdow:1 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
Not tainted 4.15.0-99-generic #100
  " echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
  -- snip

I did a git bisect procedure between kernels 4.15.0-96-generic and 4.15.0-99
and it reported the following:
  -- snip
b52be79f3c6cc89bb3834c5174843e34f945f386 is the first bad commit
  commit b52be79f3c6cc89bb3834c5174843e34f945f386
  -- snip

  Ubuntu version affected:
  Ubuntu 4.15.0-99.100-generic 4.15.18

  First kernel package affected:
  linux-image-4.15.0-99-generic

Necessary debug files will be attached as soon as possible.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-07-09 Thread Chris Guiver
I also had Lubuntu groovy daily [20200708.1] boot on

lenovo thinkpad sl510 (c2d-t6570, 2gb ram, i915)
lenovo thinkpad x201 (i5-m520, 4gb, i915)

but it failed to boot on

hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400, 4gb, intel 4 series integrated i915)

(same reaction as hp dc7700; I see the LED flash then it quickly
proceeds to boot the hdd-installed OS on selecting to boot USB device)

[Bug 1882248] Re: plug headset won't proper reconfig ouput to it on machine with default output

2020-07-09 Thread Hui Wang
This is the debdiff for pulseaudio bionic. And because the patch is
already in the eoan, focal,..., only bionic need this patch.

** Patch added: "pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu7.10.debdiff"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1882248/+attachment/5390950/+files/pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu7.10.debdiff

** Description changed:

+ This is for pulseaudio bionic:
+
+ [Impact]
+ On a Dell machine without internal spk and internal mic, after freshly
+ install the bionic on it, the active profile is Off, after users plug a
+ headset to it and users select the headset from the pop-up dialogue,
+ users expect the profile changes to analog-stereo (headset is on it),
+ but the active_profile is still Off.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Upstream already has a patch to fix it, cherrypiack that patch to bionic.
+ And that patch is already in the eoan, focal, ...
+

+ Low, this patch is already in the upstream for a long time, and it is

  For linux kernel (oem-b):

  [Impact]
On a Dell machine without internal spk and internal mic, after freshly
install the bionic on it, and users plug a headset, the sound couldn't
  output from headset.

  [Fix]
reverse the order of headset mic and headphone mic

  [Test Case]
freshly install the bionic with this patch on that dell machine,
plug headset and play sound, we could hear the sound from headset.

  [Regression Risk]
Low, this patch only affects the machine without internal mic and
internal spk, and I already tested this patch on the machine without
internal mic and internal spk, it worked well.

-

- target machine does not have built-in speaker, and the monitor does not have

+ target machine does not have built-in speaker, and the monitor does not

As first boot, there will be a "dummy output" in g-c-c.

After plug-in headset, there will be a headset appear in g-c-c, but it

[Bug 1870482] Re: apt-btrfs-snapshot blocks apt

2020-07-09 Thread Alan Walter Thomas
I never had the python error above, but ever since I reverted to a
snapshot for the first time I do get the ERROR: Could not statfs: No
such file or directory.

I was able to keep apt-btrfs-snapshot's error from making apt unable to
do anything by deleting /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80-btrfs-snapshot, but
that's really not a solution.

I have no idea what file it's looking for. Invoking it manually with
--debug didn't yield any other information.

[Bug 1886912] Re: DELL M3800 Touchscreen not working after login

2020-07-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1886912/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1886809] Re: Pulse connect VPN exists because unwanted avahi network starts

2020-07-09 Thread Helio Loureiro
This is a ubuntu desktop. A corporate laptop.

> cat /etc/network/interfaces

iface lo inet loopback

> cat /etc/network/interfaces.d/*
fish: No matches for wildcard “/etc/network/interfaces.d/*”. See `help expand`.
cat /etc/network/interfaces.d/*
^

> cat /etc/netplan/*
# Let NetworkManager manage all devices on this system
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

As you can see this is network-manager based settings.

Pulsesecure is a sort of java browser based application. Since it is a
proprietary application, I'm not sure how it runs internally, but it
does some basic checkings into your system to allow the connection, and
establishes it. It changes all routes to use the VPN as default. Any
attempt to change is detect and it considers an attempt to tamper with
system, which results in connection drop. That's where the avahi causes
the problem.

One extra info: I set the avahi to disable on /etc/default/avahi-daemon.

> cat /etc/default/avahi-daemon
# 1 = Try to detect unicast dns servers that serve .local and disable avahi in
# that case, 0 = Don't try to detect .local unicast dns servers, can cause
# troubles on misconfigured networks
AVAHI_DAEMON_DETECT_LOCAL=0

So even a patch o top of avahi-autoipd that reads this parameter can be
enough to avoid this unwanted route to pop up.

[Bug 1886920] [NEW] Battery drain during sleep. System suspended before kernel suspends all tasks. Lenovo ThinkPad T460

2020-07-09 Thread Richard Ebeling
Public bug reported:

The same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1825636.

kaihengfeng closed that one "Because there's no response from the
original bug reporter." and asked to file a report for all devices
affected, so here I am, duplicating the report.

On Ubuntu MATE 18.04, as well as after the update to 20.04, the battery
drains about 2% per hour of sleep (if I just close the lid).

$ cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
s2idle [deep]

tlp was initially installed on my machine. However, this behaviour also occurs
if I
$ sudo apt purge tlp acpi-call-dkms && sudo reboot now

also, it occurs when booting from a freshly made MATE 20.04 live usb
stick, so TLP shouldn't be the culprit.

All the log files look in all relevant aspects similar to what was
reported in the old report. I'm happy to provide log files from my

Can we get an update on this issue, preferably from
https://launchpad.net/~vicamo to whom this issue is assigned? Is
anything being done to resolve it? It is marked as resolved for some
time now while actually it is not.

I'm asking this because I'll return this laptop if I cannot use Ubuntu
on it since I've bought it to become my work laptop.

me if I wanted to keep the old file or install a new one. The default
was to keep the old one so that is what I did. When rebooting after the
install this error came up.

So I understand running `setcifsacl -a

while on an affected system? I assume it is easy to do with Azure file
shares, but I'd also appreciate a bit more details about the testing
needed to be done for verification. Could you update the description to
include that missing information?

be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cifs-
utils/2:6.8-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

  1. enroll fingerprint in gnome-control-center

As per this, GNOME design has produced some artwork that we want to implement

[Bug 1886172] Re: high speed data to usb disk makes the kernel think that is has been unmounted

2020-07-09 Thread Patrik Nilsson
I have tested it

1) directly connected to two different computers

and and with

2) a external hub with both these computers.

All works in 4.15, but not now. The external hub has an extra power
supply and can give up to 4 A for the charging only port. Hopefully it
is limited to 2 A per port by design for normal use.

The drive's enclosure itself is designed for 2 A, i.e. single connector.

High speed requires more power, but the speed can be that for 45 to 60
minutes. I expect it fail earlier if it is short of power, in case you
use the dd-command.

[Bug 1884288] Re: LapBook Pro touchpad (HTIX5288:00) sometimes does not work when machine is restarted

2020-07-09 Thread Ian Hand
@Kai-Heng, unfortunately that latest kernel you compiled has not solved
it, touchpad is dead with both a cold boot and restart.

Is there a way of running the following:

sudo rmmod i2c_hid
sudo modprobe i2c_hid

automatically at boot?

Apologies if this is what you were trying to do all this time. Running
those two lines of code in the terminal is the closest thing I have to a
fix once I'm logged in... if it could somehow be ran beofre log in at
boot then surely that would solve it? Maybe I am over simplifying the
situation.

makes the images more like the ones from June:

[Bug 1886814] Re: posix_spawn usage in gnu make causes failures on s390x

2020-07-09 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
> Is this a native s390x build, or something qemu-user? Thanks.

That's a very good question.

The failing autopkgtest, was run on an LPAR, which is running OpenStack
Nova, which launched qemu-system kvm, v5.4 Ubuntu kernel, and then run
make inside that.

I will double check if those old builds of make & autopkgtest reproduced
the issue just on an LPAR without qemu in between. I believe they did,
but don't have the logs anymore.

[Bug 1886937] Re: limited hardware support AMD 4700u HP Envy x360 13-ay003nd

2020-07-09 Thread AaronMa
Please confirm if it is is s2idle:
cat /sys/power/mem_sleep

If it is s2idle, then try find a way to disable "Windows Modern standy"
in BIOS.

[Bug 1882088] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-07-09 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From stefan.ra...@de.ibm.com 2020-07-09 07:02 EDT---
The patch was posted upstream, see
https://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg666808.html, and accepted by Dave
Miller. I just checked his net-next tree, didn't see it there yet, but I would
assume it will appear there soon.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-07-09 Thread sudodus
Let us continue like this: *You* make the images 'more like the ones
from June', and *we* (iso-testers) test how it works in our computers.

I have a good experience from booting USB drives via grub also in BIOS
mode, so I think and hope that we can keep that feature. Via the link in
comment #26 you can see a configuration that works (both in UEFI mode
and BIOS mode).
