[Bug 1882991] Re: Kernel 5.4.0-37-generic leads to black screen after grub, 5.4.0-26-generic works normally

2020-06-14 Thread Derek
Well "another time" came and I installed 440 again via apt and its
booting fine; can only assume that the blanket purge of all things
nvidia and subsequent reboots was the resolution.

[Bug 1881626] Re: Clickpad: cant left or right-click with both Two-Fingers and Area

2020-06-14 Thread Kangarooo Jānis
Mouse pad not clicking
Some Kubuntu commands are with middle mouse, so on touchpads clicks, middle
clicks and right-click should be on pads without buttons too as with buttons.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1179275/enable-tap-to-click-kubuntu
Answer there :"After some additional searching I found the solution to my
problem here

I had to add Option "Tapping" "True" to the entry MatchIsTouchpad in the
file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf. The exact name of the
file might be different for other people.

In the end, the relevant section will look like something like this:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Option "Tapping" "True"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "libinput"
EndSection
You need to be root to edit the file and reboot your system after the changes!"

[Bug 1883412] [NEW] 20.04: DNS servers from /etc/network/interfaces not honored by systemd-resolve

2020-06-14 Thread Stephen Warren
Public bug reported:

I have a server that uses /etc/network/interfaces to configure static IP
info, including DNS, via /etc/network/interfaces. This worked fine in
16.04 and 18.04. However, when I updated to 20.04 this no longer works;
I have to run "systemd-resolve --set-dns=192.168.63.1
--interface=enp3s0" to fix it after every boot.

My /etc/network/interfaces is:

# Loopback
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# enp3s0: LAN (Motherboard)
auto enp3s0
iface enp3s0 inet static
address 192.168.63.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.63.0
broadcast 192.168.63.255
gateway 192.168.63.1
dns-nameservers 192.168.63.1

iface enp3s0 inet6 static
address 2001:470:bb52:63::2/64
netmask 64

# WiFi USB
# FIXME: Probably will get renamed on boot
#allow-hotplug ethFlashAirWifi
#iface ethFlashAirWifi inet manual

"systemd-resolve --status" outputs the following beforr I run the WAR
command given above:

[Bug 1883040] Re: groovy daily won't boot anymore on some older BIOS boxes

2020-06-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Found it :) (thanks to @dax on IRC)
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/groovy/main/installer-amd64/20101020ubuntu621/legacy-images/netboot/mini.iso

it boots on both boxes (to installer boot menu). I won't overwrite d755
so only went further on dc7700; it commenced debian installer, i went
language, keyboard, it recognized network, I selected mirror and it
started downloading components... I installed (full disk), including
basic server, lubuntu desktop & ssh-server

The install worked perfectly (no date in the /etc/apt/sources.list) file
where I usually look for install .. but I can provide
/var/log/installer/syslog or whatever but quick glance & all looks good.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1085355] Re: Typo in lxsession-edit package description

2020-06-14 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Looking even more into this, the existing delta seemed small enough to
deal with merging in the latest changes from Debian. So that's what I've
tried. Should bring the package a bit more up to date in addition to
fixing the typo.

I'm not quite sure how the workflow works these days, but I have
attached two debdiffs (as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging#Build.2C_check_and_report).
One for the delta between the Debian package and the new Ubuntu package,
and one with the delta between the old Ubuntu package and the new one.

[Bug 1867424] Re: motd-news transmitting private hardware data without consent or knowledge in background

2020-06-14 Thread Guy Baconniere
I have decided to contact ICO (Information Commissioner's Office).

Because Canonical Ltd. has handled my personal information
(IP address, Hardware CPU, Choice of Cloud Hosting, and various meta-data)
and the one of the company I work for without concent.

The same apply to all users of Ubuntu (persons, companies, governements)
worldwide on a daily basis.

By collecting twice a day the following informations:

- The public IP address where Ubuntu system is used (part of the log of the
HTTPS server)
- Date / Time when collected (part of the log of the HTTPS server)
- Harware info such as CPU Vendor and Model (via /proc/cpuinfo)
- The distribution version (via /etc/lsb-release)
- The operating system (via uname -o)
- The Linux kernel release (via uname -r)
- The computer architecture aka machine hardware name (via uname -m)
- Cloud Hosting: cloud identifier such as aws, gce, azure, lxd (via cloud-id
part of cloud-init)
- Total number of seconds the system has been up (via /proc/uptime)
- The sum of how much time each core has spent idle in seconds (via
/proc/uptime)
- Version of curl software (launched as root which is a bad IT practice and a
security risk)

On top of that by making motd-news unremovable in the core of Ubuntu's
base-files
(like it was the case for Internet Explorer in Windows or the Telemery in
Windows 10),
they enforce the telemetry before you can disable it or opt-out from it.

Fell free to fill your own complaint or contact your local information
commissioner
as this ticket is marked as Won't Fix by the manager of the Ubuntu Server team.

[Bug 1863021] Re: [SRU] eventlet monkey patch results in assert len(_active) == 1 AssertionError

2020-06-14 Thread Dr. Clemens Hardewig
Hmmm .. not sure whether this patch fixes all scenarios with nova-
compute:

We just created a new compute server from scratch with clean install ubuntu
focal, python 3.8  and Ussuri nova-compute (nova-compute/focal-updates,now
2:21.0.0-0ubuntu0.20.04.1).
I double checked that this patch has been applied (which is in
/usr/lib/python3/dist-upgrade/nova/monkey_patch.py).
However, my syslog is spammed with

[Bug 1883417] [NEW] Boot is trying to read floppy - no floppy on system

2020-06-14 Thread Raptor Ramjet
Public bug reported:

I have a machine running Ubuntu server which takes over 8 minutes to
boot. When lookig at logs I can see multiple messages of:

   "floppy: error 10 while reading block 0"

Further lookign into boot logs shows the following message:

   "Timed out waiting for device dev-disk-by\x2duuid-
26c1d1f1\x2d81c1\x2d46e0\x2d8922\x2dbb4d6cc4a1ec.device"

I do not have a floppy drive on this machine so would like to know why
something is trying to read a floppy ? And how to stop it ?

Thank you

[Bug 1883418] [NEW] location services not working

2020-06-14 Thread Timothy Knickerbocker
Public bug reported:

I have allowed access on websites that I am trying to use and made sure
that location services are enabled in settings, but the site does not
have access to my location. Have tried google maps just to test, also
doesn't have access to my location. I have also tested on a windows
machine from the same router and it is working as expected. Seems to be
an Ubuntu issue.

[Bug 1871725] Re: python3-pykdl: PyKDL crashes Python 3 interpretter (SIGABRT) if any API accepting a str is used

2020-06-14 Thread Jochen Sprickerhof
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * The package python3-pykdl in focal crashes the Python 3 interpreter
+ if any API accepting a str is used.
+
+ * python3-pykdl is used in the ROS robot control software
+ (https://ros.org) based on Ubuntu.
+
+ * The patch is taken from upstream and uses PyUnicode_AsUTF8, as
+ provided by Python 3.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ $ python3 -c "import PyKDL; PyKDL.Tree('foobar')"
+ python3:
/build/orocos-kdl-oHbJfL/orocos-kdl-1.4.0/python_orocos_kdl/PyKDL/std_string.sip:52:
 int convertTo_std_string(PyObject*, void**, int*, PyObject*): Assertion
`PyUnicode_Check(s)' failed.
+ Aborted (core dumped)
+ $ echo $?
+ 134
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The patch is part of upstream git since 2018 [1], Debian bullseye [2]
+ , Ubuntu groovy and has been accepted into Debian buster [3].
+
+  * I don't see a regression potential as is basically the utf-8
+ transition of Python 3.

+
+ [Original Description]
+
  Dear Maintainer,

  The package python3-pykdl crashes the Python 3 interpreter if any API
  accepting a str is used. I've tested this using the latest Focal packages.
-

  Minimal reproducible example:

  $ python3 -c "import PyKDL; PyKDL.Tree('foobar')"
  python3:
/build/orocos-kdl-mPkyII/orocos-kdl-1.4.0/python_orocos_kdl/PyKDL/std_string.sip:52:
 int convertTo_std_string(PyObject*, void**, int*, PyObject*): Assertion
`PyUnicode_Check(s)' failed.
  Aborted (core dumped)
  $ echo $?
  134

-
  There is a patch fixing this issue in this upstream Debian Buster bug:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=956254

  Would you be willing to apply that patch in Ubuntu Focal?

-
  Cheers,
  Shane

[Bug 1883423] [NEW] no menu bar in LibreOffice

2020-06-14 Thread Jarosław Rafa
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 20.04 with GNOME Flashback session, the top menu bar (File,
View etc.) is not present in LibreOffice applications (in regular GNOME
Shell, the menu is present OK). There seems to be no way to make the
menu appear, except of uninstalling libreoffice-gtk3 package, but then
all styling from the GNOME theme is lost and LibreOffice has the "raw" X
toolkit look.

[Bug 1790814] Re: Duplicate entries caused by debs and snaps offering the same application

2020-06-14 Thread Ads20000
Launchpad Bug Watch Updater translated 'Closed' in GitLab to mean 'Fix
Released' when it actually means 'Invalid' in this case. That would be a
bug with Launchpad Bug Watch Updater.

[Bug 1752680] Re: Night light does not work after resume from suspend or unlock.

2020-06-14 Thread Marcin
I've related issue. I'm on Focal 20.04 LTS.

I did suspend my pc at night when night light was on,
Resumed (from suspend) next day in the afternoon when night light should be off
but it still has much more red temperature color than it should (night light is
on).

Event though I switch to disable night light nothing happens it still have too
much red.
After couple suspends and resumes night light is still on no matter if it's a
day or night.

It seems it only applies night light changes at time of planned toggle
night and day light.

@vanvugt - can it stay here or I should extract it to new bug?

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-14 Thread Egor Rudkov
Affects me as well:
- Ubuntu 20.04
- Nvidia driver 440
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super
- 2 monitors: 2k and 1080p

I have a strange behaviour with this one. If I set my primary 2k display
scaled to 125% and position my second 1080p monitor on the right - it
works fine. But if I drag secondary monitor to the left from my primary
one, I get this bug and mirroring turns on instead of join.

two identical deb sources, and two different Flatpak sources (the latter
is correct as one is a user installation and one is a system

[Bug 1883425] [NEW] Various bugs in network part of GNOME settings

2020-06-14 Thread TR_SLimey
Public bug reported:

1) "Turn On WiFi Hotspot" is greyed out in the 3 dot menu when opening GNOME
settings directly on the WiFi tab. However, switching to a different tab and
back fixes this. When hovering the mouse above the greyed out "Turn On WiFi
Hotspot", a tooltip says "System policy prohibits use as a Hotspot".
See also: https://askubuntu.com/q/1236823/801743

2) Deleting a route in the settings window for a particular network makes the
settings window for that network blank until re-opened. To reproduce:
 - Open GNOME settings on WiFi tab
 - Click gear icon next to any WiFi network
 - Add a new IPv4 route
 - Close the window
 - Re-open the window
 - Try to delete the route

Expected result:
 The route is removed and when clicking "apply" it is gone permanently

Actual result:
 All the widgets on the window disappear and the route is not removed
permanently when clicking "apply" so it can be seen again when re-opening the
window.

[Bug 1883426] Re: Double Deb sources in Ubuntu Software

2020-06-14 Thread Balint Harmath
Once the description is understandable - since you can install a package on the
whole system, or only to a distinct user. This may effect the code you are
checking out.
However this shouldn't be recognisable to the user.
The user once have decided it in checkbox-style during the installation
process, the dependencies or the package installed are to be decided by the
installer - not by the user.

[Bug 1882258] Re: XRDP to Ubuntu 19.10 request many popup dialog for creating a colorprofile

2020-06-14 Thread AdlerHorst
Found finally a solution:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/xrdp

I propose to add this to the package to be able to solve it.

This part was the Key:
 Next, create a polkit configuration file:

sudo nano /etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/02-allow-colord.conf

and input inside it:

polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {
if ((action.id == “org.freedesktop.color-manager.create-device” || action.id ==
“org.freedesktop.color-manager.create-profile” || action.id ==
“org.freedesktop.color-manager.delete-device” || action.id ==
“org.freedesktop.color-manager.delete-profile” || action.id ==
“org.freedesktop.color-manager.modify-device” || action.id ==
“org.freedesktop.color-manager.modify-profile”) && subject.isInGroup(“{group}”))
{
return polkit.Result.YES;
}
});

Finally, restart xrdp and you should be able to connect:

sudo /etc/init.d/xrdp restart
