[Bug 1862895] Re: [focal][nvidia][gdm3] Xorg crashes when virt-viewer or remmina are used to connect to a windows10 VM
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Tags added: eoan ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862895 Title: [focal][nvidia][gdm3] Xorg crashes when virt-viewer or remmina are used to connect to a windows10 VM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1862895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

--- Comment From andreas.kreb...@de.ibm.com 2020-02-12 03:08 EDT--- The patch applies and works also on older versions. I've debugged the original problem on GCC 4.8 and the patch works there as well. I've requested backports to be applied to GCC 8 and 9 in the GCC upstream bugzilla now. [Bug 1862879] Re: Is there any way to turn on Notification when battery is charged Full?
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1862879/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1862846] Re: Crash and failure installing focal
@Ryan FWIW the reason the install doesn't mark anything as modified is that I was trying to keep the btrfs root partition (/dev/sda3) and just install there. I thought the installer would work similarly to what the desktop installer does with btrfs, where it creates subvolumes for / and /home in the root partition (as @ and @home). On my desktop, when I upgrade I just move @ out of the way (by renaming it) and the installer creates a new one. This is kinda nice as you can easily keep/revert to the old rootfs by just changing which subvol is mounted at boot. Is there any way to do that with subiquity? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862846 Title: Crash and failure installing focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1862846/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1664438] Re: updating device name in system settings doesn't update /etc/hosts
** Tags added: eoan ** Description changed: - probably a "paper cut" issue here. On 16.04. + probably a "paper cut" issue here. Issue exist on latest Ubuntu 19.10 + and older releases, like 18.04 and 16.04. Changed the hostname of a system recently by opening the system settings tool, into details, and typing a new device name. Noticed afterwards that running sudo commands in the terminal resulted in an 'unable to resolve hostname' message, although the commands ran successfully. Checked and it looked like changing the name updates /etc/hostname as expected, but it didn't update /etc/hosts for me - it still had: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 (old hostname) Replacing the old hostname with the new one removed the message from the terminal when running sudo commands. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1664438 Title: updating device name in system settings doesn't update /etc/hosts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1664438/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862913] [NEW] ubuntu-bug failing silently if Settings > Privacy > Problem Reporting disabled
Public bug reported: On a system running Ubuntu 19.10 (upgraded over several versions) if Settings > Privacy > Problem Reporting is disabled then running ubuntu-bug collects the data and asks if it should send it. On clicking Send it silently terminates and does nothing. An appropriate response would either be to send the data anyway, since the user has been explicitly asked, or to fail with a message explaining why. [Bug 1862910] [NEW] gnome-shell leaking memory
Public bug reported: On one of my machines which has been upgraded over several years and is now running 19.10 just one of the configured users appears to be seeing a dramatic memory leak in gnome-shell, even when nothing is happening on the UI. Immediately after logging on, using the Ubuntu selection from the logon screen, gnome shell shows as using about 134MB. From there it climbs at about 300MB per hour and after a few hours the machine grinds to a crawl, not surprisingly. This happens even if the user logs on and then the machine is left completely alone. Logout and back in frees all the memory. A test user I have configured sees no such problem. I have uninstalled all extensions apart from the system ones, disabled all the system ones and reset all the gnome settings using dconf reset -f /org/gnome/ to no avail. Also I have removed ~/.local/share/gnome-shell and allowed it to recreate it. Also I have removed .compiz, .config/dconf/user, .gconf, .gnome, .gnome2. I can't see anything obvious in the log. It must be something in my settings that is triggering it as the other user does not see it, but I have run out of ideas on what to try. [Bug 1862835] Re: [Dell XPS 15 9570] Unable to change laptop screen brightness or keyboard backlighting
Legal values are 0 to whatever is in max_brightness OK, the next step is to double check there exists no other /sys/class/backlight/* directory. Just in case you have multiple backlight devices, which is not uncommon. Regardless, I think we are at the stage where it can be said to be a kernel bug. Are you able to identify an older kernel version which doesn't have the bug? [Bug 1862858] Re: CIFS acesses DFS referral with wrong Kerberos ticket
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: kubuntu 19.10 with kernel 5.3.0-29-generic and64. This looks like a regression in the kernel CIFS module after the 4.15 & 5.0 kernels. These earlier kernels follow the DFS referrals without error. The problem: - Use mount.cifs with kerberos authentication to mount a samba server hosting a DFS root. You will get a KRB ticket for the "dfs_root" machine. - Attempt to access a host a host via a DFS referral (call this "target_host") - Access will fail with "Permission Denied". - Use Wireshark to monitor CIFS and KRB traffic. - The kernel attempts to authenticate to "target_host" using the KRB ticket for "dfs_root". Note: - A DFS target running Win2008R2 will reply with STATUS_MORE_PROCESSING_REQUIRED, then the kernel will get a KRB ticket for "target_host" and use it. The connection is then successful. - A DFS target running Samba 4.7.6 will reply with STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. The connection fails. Expected Result: - Successful connection. - The kernel should get a KRB ticket for "target_host" and use it. (This is what kernels 4.15 and 5.0 do [and a Windows client]) + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8.2 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC3: stephen1839 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC2: stephen1839 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: stephen1839 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC1: stephen1839 F pulseaudio + CurrentDesktop: KDE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=4df5ccea-5eb4-45e3-a0b0-7b1311fdaba5 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-11-09 (459 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.2) + MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Bug 1862922] [NEW] ubuntu installation crash on dual-boot (with Windows 7), multiple discs & partitions system
Public bug reported: I tried to install the latest version of Ubuntu Studio from an USB drive. It failed near the end with a fatal error and without me having any hint on what to do for a corrective action. I would expect to have a check or an option before going for the whole installation step to find out there is a problem PS There is another not-so-small issue I noticed: when using an empty partition, on a system that has Windows 7 already installed and several more partitions, I need to manually create the swap, EFI and the main root partition for Ubuntu installation. The other options seem to radical - eg cleaning up a whole disk. It would be nice for the installer to take care of this step by proposing some defaults for the most users, or customization for special needs. Thank you! [Bug 1862773] Re: [MIR] python-tabulate (dependency of cinder)
** Description changed: - [MIR] python-tabulate (dependency of cinder) + [Availability] + In universe + + [Rationale] + Taken from the upstream commit that makes this change: + + PrettyTable is no longer maintained and the last release was in 2013. + There are starting to be deprecation warnings emitted with newer Python + releases. + + Various attempts to revive a fork haven't gained much traction. A common + recommendation is to move away from PrettyTable to tabulate. This + switches our usage to a close equivalent using that library instead. + + [Security] + No security history + + https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=tabulate + + + [Quality assurance] + Package has unit tests which are run as part of the package build. + + [Dependencies] + All in main + + [Standards compliance] + OK-ish - simple package but not updated to latest Standards-Version + + [Maintenance] + Not that well maintained in Debian - last update was an NMU in October 2019 to remove Py2 support. More recent updates in Ubuntu to bump version and execute unit tests as part of package builld. + + [Background information] + tabulate provides similar function to prettytable - however not all openstack projects have made the switch and there are other reverse-depends in main for python3-prettytable: + + $ reverse-depends -c main python3-prettytable + Reverse-Depends + * ceph-common [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x] + * python3-automaton + * python3-blazarclient + * python3-ceilometerclient + * python3-cinder + * python3-cinderclient + * python3-cliff + * python3-futurist + * python3-glance + * python3-glanceclient + * python3-heatclient + * python3-magnumclient + * python3-manilaclient + * python3-monascaclient + * python3-nova + * python3-novaclient + * python3-oslo.upgradecheck + * python3-osprofiler + * python3-seamicroclient + * python3-senlinclient + * python3-troveclient + + That said it formats output for python applications so would be + considered fairly low risk from a security perspective so having two + similar pkgs in main but be more palatable. ** Changed in: python-tabulate (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: python-tabulate (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu OpenStack (ubuntu-openstack) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862773 Title: [MIR] python-tabulate (dependency of cinder) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-tabulate/+bug/1862773/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
@Joseph, the last line you see is: printk: bootconsole [efifb0] disabled And system just hangs unless manually powered off. Is this correct? Then, two things you might want to try: 1. could you also try booting with "nosmp"? 2. does your system still boot normally in other ways, so that you can get into the system and dump CPU microcode info? What's the output of following command on your system? $ dmesg |grep microcode I'm suspecting your case is a duplicate of bug 1862751 or similar. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853369 Title: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1853369/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1862546] Re: Sync qalculate-gtk 3.3.0-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main) - Multiple bugs, instabilities and superseded data combined in outdated package of qalculate
Yeah, surely an update of of the qalculate-gtk package requires an update of some dependencies. I am just surprised how effortful all of this sounds while a lot of other Ubuntu packages I know and use are just updated with every release. I think thats the point of major releases to get an up-to-date version of the software packages (and not only security fixes). Controversial to the (modified) bug description I would also look forward to an update to an actual up-to-date version (latest version is 3.7). But I take what I get... and if it is not updated I will continue installing Debian packages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862546 Title: Sync qalculate-gtk 3.3.0-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main) - Multiple bugs, instabilities and superseded data combined in outdated package of qalculate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qalculate-gtk/+bug/1862546/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
