[Bug 1853489] Re: Ignoring the default NAT when using the virtio adapter

2019-11-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Maybe it fast-pathes around something when both are virtio.
But you said you set driver=qemu and it still was broken with virtio, I didn't
expect that.

I have given it a few tries with a similar setup among a few VMs but
haven't seen the issue myself.

You probably want to report that upstream to get more eyes/brains onto that
case.
But with the case as-is atm I'm not really sure if that would be better started
at libvirt [1] or qemu [2]. Maybe start with one and if redirected from there
go to the other?

I'm subscribed on both, but would appreciate if you could add here a
link to the thread you started on the ML to find it again later.

[Bug 1849859] Re: error when connecting to smb server

2019-11-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
If it is the same as fedora bug mentioned by till then the upstream
samba issue is [1]

There are backport efforts on that still going on.
An example for 4.10 is in [2] and Uppstream this is merged in 4.11.

So the upcoming merge for 4.11 into Ubuntu 20.04 should fix it there and
SRUs can afterwards be considered. I'll be pinging on the merge to mark
this bug resolved as soon as 4.11 is in.

Public bug reported:

Boot from 191120 Ubuntu 20.04 daily built. Selected Simplified Chinese

[Bug 1853807] [NEW] clock_gettime and time are inconsistent with each other

2019-11-25 Thread Anthony Williams
Public bug reported:

When I compile and run the attached program, the output shows an
inconsistency between the time returned by clock_gettime() and time().
Even though the call to time() is after the call to clock_gettime(), it
can return an earlier timestamp. This is particularly apparent after
waiting until a particular time, as shown in the example code. Sample
output is:

Now (clock_gettime) time is 1574670740847614452 (timespec)
=>1574670740(time_t)
=>8:32:20
Now (time(nullptr)) time is 1574670740(time_t)
=>8:32:20
Now (clock_gettime) time is 1574670742000185727 (timespec)
=>1574670742(time_t)
=>8:32:22
Now (time(nullptr)) time is 1574670741(time_t)
=>8:32:21

Compiled with g++ v7 from the ubuntu repositories. Output of g++
version:

[Bug 1722553] Re: [SRU] openstack command raises exception referencing gi.repository and gnome bug 709183

2019-11-25 Thread admgsic
I have faced the same problem while I was installing Openstack Train on
Ubuntu Server 18.04.3 LTS.

a) Firstly, when I have installed python-openstackclient, keystone and
glance, openstack interactive mode is succeeded.

b) When I have installes 'placement' packages interactive mode is
failed.

I'm using:
 python-openstackclient (3.14.2)
 cmd2 (0.8.9)
 pyperclip (1.7.0)

The solution was like https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-
archive/+bug/1722553/comments/31 downgrade cmd2 packages to 0.6.8
version

[Bug 1853783] Re: Nautilus crashes whenever I attempt to format a USB with a partition table

2019-11-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1853003] Re: [20.04] Please remove ibmasm-utils package from the Archive

2019-11-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Frank pulled a lot of strings, we have to realize that those servers are not
sold for more than a decade. After all those servers were IBM, but are taken
over by Lenovo since quite some time.
So we found no one to talk about the old reasons or the old servers it was
added for.
But OTOH this also is an argument that shows that this seems to be no more
needed.

Assigning archive admins to resolve this.

[Bug 1767568] Re: Console DPMS is not enabled by default in Ubuntu Server 18.04

2019-11-25 Thread Robie Basak
> I understand that the original reporter said that he got it working
with setterm, but as by convention these bug reports often require
verification from others in order to get any attention, it seems only
reasonable that after many have said that the DPMS power saving is what
is not working, while simple blanking and leaving the monitor on is what
is currently happening, that this bug should not have been marked
invalid.

I disagree. The reporter accidentally conflated DPMS with the
intentional screen blanking change we made. This muddles every
subsequent comment. As the reporter said that the problem was resolved,
clearly it is the bug subject that was mistaken. The bug status is
correct for the original problem the reporter had intended to report.

If instead you think the reporter thought they were reporting was
actually something else, and the bug subject was correct, then I guess
that's self-consistent and you're entitled to think that, but this is
only going to lead to further confusion.

I suggest you file a separate bug if you think that there is a bug in
DPMS. Please make sure to use an appropriate bug subject and a clear
explanation in the bug description (steps to reproduce, expected
behaviour, actual behaviour, etc) and then hopefully there will be
clarity on exactly what you are reporting and then the community can
determine the correct status of your issue as any outcome emerges.

[Bug 1853818] [NEW] utf8 non ascii characters are not accepted as input of the mysql command line

2019-11-25 Thread Pierre François
Public bug reported:

When you type

SELECT "é" AS letter;

at the prompt of the command line interface of the mysql client, the
letter with an accent will not be echoed at the command line and the
result of the command will be an empty field instead of a field
containing the letter "é", as if the next command was issued:

SELECT "" AS letter;

As a workaround, you send letters with accents through a pipeline to the
mysql client, typing at the shell prompt:

echo 'SELECT "é" AS letter;' | mysql

This version of the mysql client is configured to use the EditLine
wrapper, which seems to be guilty of this behaviour.

[Bug 869017] Re: Ubuntu server enables screenblanking, concealing crashdumps (DPMS is not used)

Here's the change that was made: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/zesty/commit/?id=a87ae50beda8c46c543b39e19070549cf355eb65

It's just the default of the consoleblank= kernel parameter. You can
override it by specifying that parameter to the kernel at boot time (eg.
via /etc/default/grub)

If someone could test and document exact steps to do this override in
this bug please, that'd be useful to users and I'd appreciate it.

[Bug 1336607] Re: menu option "copy to" -> "other pane" looks grey, but still functions

2019-11-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) reached end-of-life on April 28, 2017.

It looks like this bug report should have been filed against "nautilus".
However, the dual pane view was removed some time ago. Closing as
"Invalid" as this report is no longer useful.

2019-11-25 Thread Alex Tu
just verified this case on intel glk , platform pci subsystem ID = 08AF with 2
ways to heating CPU:
 - $ stress -c 20
 - $ sudo stress-ng --ignite-cpu --cpu 4

with thermald 1.7.0-5ubuntu5 + kernel 4.15.0-1065-oem , the thermald
looks work well and the system was not shut down by overheating.

refer to the attached log from thermald with `--loglevel=debug`.

by monitoring sensors in /sys/class/thermal/, the temperature is keep
closing to critical (95 degree), but thermald will always cool it on
time.

So, I will mark this issue as invalid.

[Bug 1853273] Re: --force-dark-mode flag in init file does not get recognized

2019-11-25 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thanks for the clarification. I'm not seeing --force-dark-mode work on
the google-chrome deb either. So it doesn't seem to be a snap-specific
problem. Has this ever worked on linux? When searching for "--force-
dark-mode" I'm seeing lots of references to the feature on windows/mac,
not linux.

[Bug 1846712] Re: ImportError: No module named backports.ssl_match_hostname

2019-11-25 Thread Digulla-hepe
Test cases:

python2 -c "import backports.ssl_match_hostname"
docker-compose --version

Fix / workaround (as root):

echo "# package" > /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-
packages/backports/__init__.py

Note: I'm not sure whether sudo will work with output redirection.

[Bug 1850651] Re: Authentication constantly re-requested for Google

2019-11-25 Thread Olivier Tilloy
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ A recent server-side change with google e-mail accounts (gmail) means that
thunderbird consistently fails to authenticate, prompting for the user's e-mail
address and password over and over, without ever succeeding.
+ This has been fixed upstream and is tracked by
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1592407.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ In a clean environment, launch thunderbird and add an existing gmail account.
+ Thunderbird should auto-detect all the relevant parameters, and then an
external webview should pop up to prompt for your e-mail address (it's not
auto-filled, that's a separate issue that's also known upstream) and your
password. After filling this in and authorizing thunderbird to access your
e-mails, your account should be set up and thunderbird should start fetching
e-mails from your inbox. Instead it fails to authenticate and displays the
authentication pop up again.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low, as this is an official upstream point release that addresses only this
regression (see
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.9.1/releasenotes/).
+ The fix is minimal and self-contained
(https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-esr60/rev/56b6d1b50647143c25efe642b37b02f65f9c4343),
if the bug is indeed confirmed to be fixed then it should be safe.
+
+
+ [Original Bug Description]
+
When I use Thunderbird, it keeps failing to connect with my Google
(Gmail) accounts. It keeps asking for authentication via the web portal,
I seem to successfully give Thunderbird authentication, but no messages
come in and, soon afterwards, the web portal comes up asking for login
  again.

  I am using OAuth2 (so this ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-
  US/questions/1201406 ) doesn't help.

[Bug 1848880] Re: Server 18.04.3 OEM Install option doesn't work

2019-11-25 Thread Ozzy
I did some more testing and found the common denominator on the machines
that it's not working for me on.

It seems that this affects machines with UEFI, but not Legacy (BIOS)
booting. To verify I created two identical VM's in vmware esxi 6.7u3,
set one to EFI boot and the other to BIOS. The Legacy/BIOS boot VM
worked normally, however the VM set to EFI boot exhibited "command not
found" when attempting to run oem-config-prepare. Apart from BIOS vs
UEFI, all other aspects of the VM were the same.

[Bug 1853825] [NEW] ^W ^G ^X fails to redisplay the text being edited

2019-11-25 Thread Benno Schulenberg
Public bug reported:

There is a silly display bug in nano-4.3
(https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?57295): when opening some file (for
example, 'nano README') and typing the sequence Ctrl+W Ctrl+G Ctrl+X,
the Search help text stays on the screen whereas the text of the README
file should be redisplayed. Attached upstream patch fixes this. Please
apply to Eoan.

(It could be applied to Focal too, but nano-4.6 will be out within a
week, so it's probably not worth the effort.)

got some clicking sound, but then there was no sound at all afterwards.

The device shows on Settings > Output and it's detected by alsamixer
also.

The headphone works normally on my phone.

This is the first time I've booted ubuntu since I've updated it (not
considering when you have to do so for the installing process). Sound
worked normally back then.

Only sound I hear is the clicking sound whenever I plug it in and off.

Headphone is at maximum gain on alsamixer.

HW info shows at title.
