[Bug 1853061] Re: Connection to USB-C hub frequently drops when charging over it

2019-11-21 Thread Matt W
I tried installing the deb files

linux-headers-5.4.0-050400rc8_5.4.0-050400rc8.201911171930_all.deb
linux-headers-5.4.0-050400rc8-generic_5.4.0-050400rc8.201911171930_amd64.deb
linux-image-unsigned-5.4.0-050400rc8-generic_5.4.0-050400rc8.201911171930_amd64.deb
linux-modules-5.4.0-050400rc8-generic_5.4.0-050400rc8.201911171930_amd64.deb

and booting with the new kernel but my system did not seem to be wholly
compatible. The proprietary nvidia drivers I am using (nvidia-driver-440
off of the Ubuntu graphics-drivers ppa) did not seem to be compatible
with these kernel debs. I was unable to get to the Gnome desktop when
trying to use nouveau drivers with kernel 5.4.0. I will try again and
see if I can get to the desktop when I get a chance to debug the boot
process in a day or two.

[Bug 1848978] Re: CML: perf enabling for core

2019-11-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
For Comet Lake to read PC10 residency, please use `perf` from linux-
tools packages:

  $ perf stat -e cstate_pkg/c10-residency/ \
  -e cstate_pkg/c9-residency/ \
  -e cstate_pkg/c8-residency/
  (this will block until interrupted)

as `powertop` doesn't currently support CML, either.

[Bug 1848009] Re: Delay launching application launcher gets longer the more apps are open

2019-11-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell -
3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1~19.10.1

---

  * debian/control, gbp.conf: Update for ubuntu/eoan branch

gnome-shell (3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1) focal; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
+ Replace gnome-backgrounds dep with ubuntu-wallpapers and Suggests
  gnome-themes-standard-data, gnome-backgrounds
+ Add some Recommends:
  - ubuntu-session (| gnome-session) to have the ubuntu session available
  - xserver-xorg-legacy

+ Update debian/gbp.conf with Ubuntu settings
+ gnome-shell-common.install: Install Ubuntu mode
+ gnome-shell-common.prerm: Remove deprecated ubuntu theme alternative
+ ubuntu/desktop_detect.patch:
  - add caching for desktop detection to avoid querying the current
desktop env variable as iterate through the list each time. For the
time of the Shell process, we can expect this env variable to stay
stable.
+ ubuntu/smarter_alt_tab.patch:
  - quick alt-tab (without showing up the switcher) switch only between
the last window of the last 2 applications to be focused instead of
raising all windows of those apps.
+ ubuntu/lightdm-user-switching.patch:
  - Allow user switching when using LightDM.
+ ubuntu/lock_on_suspend.patch
  - Respect Ubuntu's lock-on-suspend setting.
+ ubuntu/gdm.patch
  - as gdm is system-wide and not session-wide, ensure gdm has an ubuntu
styling by default, not impacting the gnome user session though.
+ ubuntu/background_login.patch
  - Change default background color as we modified the default GDM color
for our ubuntu session. Change it as well here, still applying the
background noise loading.
+ ubuntu/gdm_alternatives.patch
  - Add support for GDM3 theme alternatives
+ optional-hot-corner.patch
  - enable patch proposed by upstream developer already in package (but
not in series) to add a settings for optional hot corner activation.
+ volume-Add-back-sound-feedback-on-scroll.patch
  - Fix regression causing missing feedback on volume slider scroll
+ main-show-an-error-message-on-gnome-shell-crash.patch,
  global-make-possible-to-set-debug-flags-dynamically.patch,
  main-increase-the-granularity-of-backtraces-in-SHELL_DEBU.patch,
  main-add-backtrace-crashes-all-and-backtrace-all.patch,

  - stop searches when requested from UI
+ magnifier-Show-cursor-when-magnifier-is-enabled-and-scale.patch:
  - Show monitor scaled cursor when magnifier is enabled

gnome-shell (3.34.1+git20191024-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream snapshot release
+ Fix some animations using invalid parameters
+ Compute lock timeout fade duration using animations parameters
+ Ensure unredirection is disabled after animations
+ Speed-up overview opening using windows cached centers (LP: #1848009)

[Bug 1852546] Re: Unencryption screen doesn't allow input after additional displays

2019-11-21 Thread Jari Hyle
Here's the output of journalctl -b -0

One thing to note though is that I found a workaround. When the screen
freezes I can used shift+tab to enter somekind of console and then
shift+tab back to the splash screen. Then it recognizes the additional
displays and I can enter the unlock code to the input bar again.

[Bug 1852794] Re: Dell PowerEdge R630 won't boot with 4.4.0-168.197 and later

2019-11-21 Thread Björn Tillenius
Hi Khaled,

sorry for not answering earlier, I've been off sick.

1) Yes. We have two Dell R630 machines, natasha and opelt. The former
(natasha) doesn't boot, while the latter (opelt) does boot. I've
attached the lshw output for them both. They do have different CPUs, for
examples.

2) It's a matter of booting from grub vs booting from lpxelinux. I
mainly wanted to confirm that it's not an issue that's specific to
lpxelinux. I used MAAS to do the installation, and I forced it to use
4.4.0-166.195 for the installation.

I'll see if I can try and boot it with 4.4.0-167.196 today.

This seems to me like a filesystem error or a broken package download.
Does a reinstall work like:
$ sudo apt install --reinstall python-cryptography

Did you have other FS errors in your journal maybe?

Search engines showed me a bunch of those errors on raspberries with half
broken SD cards.
But your case seems to be a normal system.

This doesn't seem to be a bug in the package, but some setup and/or HW
failure to me for now.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1852994] Re: samba creates temporary files in /tmp, but never deletes them

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This pretty much sounds like [1][2].

While there might be a fix for it in the future in the code (the BZ
looks that way) There are two important things to take away right now:

1. it seems to depend on a slight misconfiguration (different in lower/upper
case in user name)
Something similar might apply to your case
2. There is a workaround in adding this to sssd config that seems to clean them

[Bug 1852994] Re: samba creates temporary files in /tmp, but never deletes them

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Thomas,
I assume you use sssd+kerberos to join an active directory or such?
Is that correct, could you summarize your setup so that people can try to
reproduce this?

Have you already identified on which action new tmp directories are
created - is it logging into the AD or some other action on the samba
server that can be identified?

In general I'm not sure how much services are are supposed to clean up while
running.
Do these files stays around through a a restart of the samba service?

[Bug 1848741] Re: [amdgpu] Ubuntu 19.10 horizontal graphics corruption on AMD Ryzen 2500u (Raven Ridge)

2019-11-21 Thread Gary
I fixed it by adding a few lines in my /etc/default/grub file! (not sure which
exactly which one of the 3 fixed it)
In the line (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=) I added to the quotes: iommu=soft
processor.max_cstate=5 idle=nomwait
If anyone can explain what they each do/which ones are necessary that would be
great as well (if it also fixes it for other people)!

I found these commands from:

[Bug 1852347] Re: [MIR] tpm-udev

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
libtss2-udev was part of tpm2-tss when it was MIR+Security reviewed in
Disco.

The new tpm-udev package was split out after that review to be re-usable in
different places.
But the content is exactly what was reviewed:

Disco:

$ dpkg -L libtss2-udev
/.
/lib
/lib/udev
/lib/udev/rules.d
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-libtss2-udev.rules
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libtss2-udev
/usr/share/doc/libtss2-udev/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libtss2-udev/copyright
/var
/var/lib
/var/lib/tpm
$ md5sum /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libtss2-udev.rules
29b0b97d7fbee510da26feb36f5222e5 /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libtss2-udev.rules

Focal:
$ dpkg -L tpm-udev
/.
/lib
/lib/udev
/lib/udev/rules.d
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-tpm-udev.rules
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/tpm-udev
/usr/share/doc/tpm-udev/changelog.gz
/usr/share/doc/tpm-udev/copyright
/var
/var/lib
/var/lib/tpm
$ md5sum /lib/udev/rules.d/60-tpm-udev.rules
29b0b97d7fbee510da26feb36f5222e5 /lib/udev/rules.d/60-tpm-udev.rules

See that even the md5 on the rules is the same that was reviewed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tpm2-tss/+bug/1841595/comments/6
already.

The changes since then are in the postinst (as that is its main
function).

That covers:
- mark libtss2-udev Multi-Arch: foreign (Closes: #941146)
- call udevadm trigger after installing libtss2-udev (Closes: #940642)
- /var/lib/tpm/ not owned by tss user/group (Closes: #940643)

All of these seem right and not security critical (well the last is even
an improvement).

Therefore since all the content was actually already reviewed and the
packaging on this seems to be fine as well IMHO we can fast-path this to
the same approved state as the base MIR in bug 1841595.

MIR - ack
Security - no review needed (not again)

[Bug 1853431] [NEW] [rfe] northd: Add `status` management command

2019-11-21 Thread Frode Nordahl
Public bug reported:

A recent addition to upstream OVN will allow operators, and indeed
charms, to query a ovn-northd process whether it is in active or standby
mode.

It would be great to have this included in the Ubuntu package until the
next upstream release is cut if possible.

[Bug 1853436] Re: install issues in containers

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
At:
if udevadm --version > /dev/null; then
udevadm control --reload-rules

Maybe make the reload also a check.
If it fails do not go any further as it implies here udev has some general
issue out of control of your package and the next commands would fail for sure.

[Bug 1853436] [NEW] install issues in containers

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
by accident (fortunately?) I ran into this after some testing for getting this
promoted to main which seemed fine.

But later on in the container I had it installed I got issues and wanted
to report them so they can be fixed before 20.04 releases as I'll assume
it will then be default installed as part of fwupd dependencies.

What happens (to me at least) is that on re-install it hits this:

Setting up tpm-udev (0.2) ...
Failed to send reload request: No such file or directory
Failed to write 'change' to '/sys/devices/platform/STM7304:00/tpm/tpm0/uevent':
Read-only file system
Failed to write 'add' to '/sys/devices/platform/STM7304:00/tpm/tpm0/uevent':
Read-only file system
dpkg: error processing package tpm-udev (--configure):
installed tpm-udev package post-installation script subprocess returned error
exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tpm-udev
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

-x identified this is from the udevadm interaction
+ udevadm control --reload-rules
Failed to send reload request: No such file or directory
+ :
+ udevadm trigger --sysname-match=tpm[0-9]*
Failed to write 'change' to '/sys/devices/platform/STM7304:00/tpm/tpm0/uevent':
Read-only file system
+ :
+ udevadm trigger --action=add --subsystem-match=tpm
Failed to write 'add' to '/sys/devices/platform/STM7304:00/tpm/tpm0/uevent':
Read-only file system

You should guard against the issue with pre-checks or consider letting
it continue gracefully if that seems better to you.

[Bug 1846821] Re: Qt print dialog has wrong default page size

2019-11-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Normally, as this is not really a high-impact bug, I would be a bit
reluctant to accept it as an SRU. Since every SRU introduces risks,
especially if it's in a big core package like qtbase. But since I see
there's activity here (and testers available) + the patch is rather
straightforward, then oh well, why not give it a chance.

[Bug 1852347] Re: [MIR] tpm-udev

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
On some deeper checks I found an issue (see bug 1853436) that is ok for
now, but should be resolved before this goes into 20.04 for real.

Furthermore while the review was all ok there is one bit missing, it seems I
was too fast on this ...
Foundations-bugs was suggested and acked back then on bug 1841595.

But for the split into this extra src package we also need to add the
actual subscription here as well.

- foundations-bugs is on tpm2-tss already
- they need to be added to this one as well

I'll ping bdmurray who did the tpm2-tss subscription to get this cleaned
up.

[Bug 1846821] Please test proposed package

2019-11-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Maciej, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qtbase-opensource-src into bionic-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/qtbase-opensource-src/5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2.4 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1853440] [NEW] Volume either 0 or 100% on Lenovo X1 Carbon G7

2019-11-21 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

Volume increasing or decreasing doesn't work.
I can only toggle sound on (= 100%) and off (= 0%).

What I found out is that the Master channel seems to have no effect for
volume adjustments, but the PCM channel does. If the sound is muted, PCM
is set to 0 and therefore the sound is toggled off, but when I increase
the sound a bit, PCM jumps straight to 100, causing the speakers to be
very load.

I have attached alsa-info output.

System environment:
Pop!_OS 19.10
Release: 19.10

Alsa-Version:
alsa-base: 1.0.25

Sound Card:
HDA-Intel
Codec: Realtek ALC285

[Bug 1852367] Re: [MIR] mysql-router (mysql-8.0)

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
[Summary]
- MIR Team ack
- needs no subscriber as it is part of mysql-8 which has the server Team
subscribed already
@Security
- Security check of the subdir router/* requested
@Server
- While security is working on the review the server Team should try to enable
the tests in router/test/* in either build or autopkgtest
- should we add a service file or something or is this intentionally up to the
users and/or the mentioned charms thereof?
- d/copyright could get an update lintian yells about it all over the place

[Background]
This is the request to review a new binary of a package otherwise already in
main.
But since the functionality wasn't in the source long ago when it was accepted
and since functionally it is rather (security) critical a re-review was
requested.
Going forward it is important to understand that we are not (re-)reviewing all
of mysql but the subdir router/* and its associated snippets in the build
system and debian directory.

[Duplication]
There is no other package that provides the function of mysql-router.
There are other DB-proxies like postgresql-12-pgpool2 mariadb maxscale, ...
there is none for mysql yet and none in main.

[Embedded sources and static linking]
- no embedded libs
- no golang

[Security]
- no history of CVEs
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not processe arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

Ok, but worth to look at:
- while it does not run a daemon as root (we only provide the binary, no
service)
That still means for deployment people will have to use it in such a way or
similar
  =>
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-router/8.0/en/mysql-router-general-using-deploying.html
- while only redirecting instead of handling the requests it does parses data
formats
- it opens a port or sockets depending on setup
- technically a proxy is itself a "man in the middle" so attacks like that get
more attack surface to work with

While being under the same strict coverage like mysql8 itself being part
of the same source feels good I think this is worth a check by the
security Team.

[Common blockers]
- builds fine atm
- already has a bug subscriber
- translations are not present (for this componentn) but it isn't user facing
- not a python package, so no further checks on that needed

Not perfect, but acceptable for now:
- router has an own test section in the code at router/tests
But I see none of them run at build or autopkgtest time:
  =>
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/452198941/buildlog_ubuntu-focal-amd64.mysql-8.0_8.0.18-0ubuntu3_BUILDING.txt.gz
  =>
https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/m/mysql-8.0/20191119_213042_010c3@/log.gz
Adding that would be great for QA

[Packaging red flags]
- Ubuntu carries delta in general but nothing massive and nothing on router
- it has a bunch of "internal" libs in /usr/lib/mysql-router/ not meant for
external usage.
While tracking symbols is nice in this case it isn't strictly required
Also once bug 1845661 is fixed this is gone.
- d/watch is ok
- updates are regular including upstram minor releases and seucrity maintenance
- it is up to date
- src:mysql is maintained anyway already (no extra burden)
- No critical massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules isn't the cleanest, but ok for the complexity of the project
- no Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
- no build errors during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (in the new code)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no User nobody
- no use of setuid
- being a dependency of desktop packages mysql is known to have a lot of
"non expert" bugs, but mysql-router will only be pulled in on more classic
server deployments. Currently no important bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or
Ubuntu are blocking the router feature
- no use of Dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- no Embedded source copies
- not integrating to Unity Dash

[Bug 1850064] Re: Please upgrade it to 68.x on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2019-11-21 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@GrzesiekC: I couldn't find any trace of a thunderbird apparmor profile
in official Ubuntu packages (apart from the ubuntu-email abstraction).
So I'm not sure where this profile you have enabled on your machine
comes from, but not from the archive, that's for sure. I'd suggest
disabling it:

sudo apparmor_parser -R thunderbird

and create a symlink to the overly strict profile in
/etc/apparmor.d/disable.
