occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is
needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

[Bug 1852709] [NEW] 5.0.0-36 update broke networking with Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controllers

2019-11-15 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I recently applied updates that included the 5.0.0-36 kernel. I think
the update arrived on Nov 14, 2019 or Nov 15, 2019.

Networking no longer works. The machine does not have an IP address.
Dmesg does not show the customary entries for networking.

My machine is a Dell XPS 8930,
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078N85NCR. The network card is
Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10).

[Bug 1847479] Re: update-manager window expands off-screen (which effectively stops distribution upgrade)

2019-11-15 Thread arQon
No, you can't. The window EXPANDS to where it's unusable, but then
doesn't resize back DOWN when you toggle details back off.

The only way out is to kill update-manager (which doesn't even have a
Close icon, so you also have to know that you can do it from the main
menu, which some distros are now disabling by default, so then you're
looking at the terminal for it. :P)

[Bug 1852711] [NEW] vax780 problem with integer overflow

2019-11-15 Thread Witold Krecicki
Public bug reported:

VAX780 depends on signed overflow (which is an undefined behaviour), and
gcc/clang optimization breaks it and the simulator doesn't work at all.
The code is virtually unmaintained (and really unmaintainable..) so it'd be
hard to do a proper fix, but there is a simple workaround - disabling the
specific optimization. Patch attached.

[Bug 1852546] Re: Unencryption screen doesn't allow input after additional displays

2019-11-15 Thread Jari Hyle
I use ThinkPad T480 and I'm not sure if this particular instance uses
the Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 or GeForce MX150. The laptop is
connected to a Docking station. Docking station is "hinkPad Ultra
Docking Station" type 40AJ(or 4OAJ).

As this bug happens before I can get the drive unencrypted, is anything
written to logs?

[Bug 1852709] Re: 5.0.0-36 update broke networking with Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controllers

2019-11-15 Thread Jeffrey Walton
I installed a USB ethernet adapter with hopes I could get networking up.
Unfortunately, no joy.

Dmesg shows the controller was recognized, but that is as far as things
got. The adapter was not used for networking. No IP address was
assigned.

Things are really sideways here.

[Bug 1852581] Re: hwe-edge kernel 5.3.0-23.25 kernel does not boot on Precision 5720 AIO

2019-11-15 Thread John Doe
I'm also getting the same issue on an ASUS VivoBook K451LB (x86_64, UEFI
boot). 5.3.0-19.20 is the last kernel that boots on this system, all
subsequent ones fail and drop to the initramfs prompt.

Unpacking /boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-19-generic and
/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic (using unmkinitramfs) and performing a
diff doesn't appear to yield much, with only one file missing (an RTC
driver that was intentionally removed).

However, I did notice that the kernel modules were just slightly smaller
in the 5.3.0-23 initrd, and that eventually led me to this:

$ modinfo
'/run/shm/initrd.img-5.3.0-19-generic/main/lib/modules/5.3.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/libahci.ko'
filename:

parm: devslp_idle_timeout:device sleep idle timeout (int)

Notice that the output of modinfo for the 5.3.0-19 module contains the
following lines (which are missing in the 5.3.0-23 modinfo output):
signat: PKCS#7
signer:
sig_key:
sig_hashalgo: md4

My hypothesis is that the newer kernel modules being unsigned is the
root cause behind these boot failures, since I currently have Secure
Boot enabled. I'll attempt a boot with Secure Boot turned off and report
back again.

[Bug 1852592] Re: Backport Asterisk 16 to Bionic

2019-11-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI v16 is in Ubuntu 19.04 and later.
Per the SRU policy [1] it won't get "just into 18.04".

Thanks Hans Joachim for linking the backports process, which is sort of the
middle ground.
But to be aware, usually requires participation and dev on your own.

[Bug 1841556] Re: cpu frequency stuck below min frequency with power_save governor

2019-11-15 Thread Rocko
I've not had a chance to test it recently - I haven't seen it happen for
a while, but I'm not switching between the nvidia and intel cards,
either, so I don't expect to. If I get a chance to try it on the weekend
I'll report back.

boot normally.

[Bug 1847484] Re: tmux crashed with SIGSEGV

2019-11-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for your checks Amir and Andreas.
Since this involves a "bad config" I'd say the prio isn't high.

But if one of you could report the crash upstream that would probably
help the most to eventually get rid of it.

There currently is 3.0-rc5 in Debian/experiemental.
No final 3.0 yet at https://github.com/tmux/tmux/releases
Maybe by reporting this there it will make it into 3.0 final?

[Bug 1852510] Re: IO errors when writing large amounts of data to USB storage in eoan on RPI

2019-11-15 Thread Hui Wang
I did test with VMSPLIT_2G today, the mmc/sd controller will not work
anymore on rpi4 boards, so enable VMSPLIT_2G is not a solution so far.

And today I also tested dwc2, it worked well, maybe we could enable dwc2
instead of dwc_otg, then we could use a single kernel to support
rpi2/3/4. dwc2 worked well both with VMSPLIT_2G and VMSPLIT_3G.

I am building a formal armhf and arm64 kernel with dwc2 enabled, will
test all kernels on all boards. And I will share the kernels to the lp,
anyone could help test them.

thx.

Primebook C11B uses the SIPODEV SP1064 touchpad. There are 2

[Bug 1852720] [NEW] docker snap suddenly installed by itself

Public bug reported:

Have an Ubuntu 18.04 VM with docker.io installed from repo, it suddenly ran out
of diskspace after the docker snap installed all by itself at 01:00 Amsterdam
time.
Both snap docker and docker from repo were fighting over
/run/containerd/containerd.sock:

/var/log/syslog shows many of below lines being added:

Thanks for the testing. There are two new commits that should fix this
issue:

Interesting; I noted upstream talking about the optimization of
dwc_otg (I'm guessing, from a quick skim of each, that's mostly from
the FIQ FSM stuff in dwc_otg which dwc2 seems to lack); we should
probably benchmark the performance differences between dwc_otg and
dwc2, both USB transfer speeds, and load on the ARM during transfers
(my hunch is, if anything is affected, it'll be the latter - I vaguely
recall forum posts about improvements on the ARM load during large USB
transactions).

Given arm64 isn't affected, would it be worth sticking with dwc_otg on
that arch? Or is the inconsistency (e.g. different capabilities?) an
issue in and of itself?

I'm more than happy to test out some kernels when they're available!

Thanks,

Dave.
