This is traditional MAC behavior and is by design. Uncontrolled inheritance is an information leak/security hole. [Bug 1849753] Re: AppArmor profile prohibits classic snap from inheriting file descriptors
John, did you read more than three words of the report? We’re talking about a classic snap inheriting an fd from a classic snap (the same classic snap, in fact) for a file to which they should both have access (because they’re classic snaps). There can’t be information leaking across a security boundary when there’s no security boundary. And if there were a security boundary, it sure wouldn’t be a very good one if you could get around it by invoking the binary at a different path. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849753 Title: AppArmor profile prohibits classic snap from inheriting file descriptors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1849753/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1849720] Re: Running VM with Virtual NIC Crashes Host OS
Ok you both had e1000e as I had in my test. The guest xml has no very special config that would make me wonder. You said there is no crash report, and the guest log confirms that it seems to end kind of normally. 2019-10-23T03:01:14.664402Z qemu-system-x86_64: terminating on signal 15 from pid 1899 (/usr/sbin/libvirtd) That means libvirt told him to end which is fine. Robert said there also where no kernel panics or anything. Could you outline these two things please: - you said "crashes on the host" but we lack crash reports, how would such a crash look like exactly? - maybe one can get a journal log while the crash is happening, as it might be libvirt who thinks it needs to shut down the guest (at least from what we see so far)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849720 Title: Running VM with Virtual NIC Crashes Host OS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1849720/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1849929] [NEW] FreeImage JXR loading broken due to leaking define
Public bug reported: 1) Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS 2) libfreeimage-dev=3.17.0+ds1-5build2, libjxr-dev=1.1-6build1 3) Loading a Jpeg XR file over the api should work, as it is reported as supported. 4) It fails with "unsupported format", because the conversion fails in the libfreeimage library, while the target image is not defined. In essence, the JXR loading functionality is broken. In FreeImage.h:132 _WINDOWS_ is defined, leaking over to any other include file. Injxrlib/guiddef.h:45, the field Data1 is "unsigned long" for windows and 32-bit systems, as the windows abi defaults to 32-bit "unsigned int", while it should be 32-bit. By becoming 64-bit, the GUID is now 4 bytes longer, which are filled then with "random" data. Undefining "_WINDOWS_" before including "JXRGlue.h" in PluginJXR.cpp should fix the behaviour. Better would probably to not leak the definition in the first place, but that seems a more involved task. [Bug 1849753] Re: AppArmor profile prohibits classic snap from inheriting file descriptors
Yes I did, and @jdstrand did explain the situation in #4 "There is a revalidation that happens when node calls itself since it invokes snap run, which invokes snap-confine which causes the revalidation (because it is differently confined)." [Bug 1849753] Re: AppArmor profile prohibits classic snap from inheriting file descriptors
Alright, so, when I asked in #5 whether symlinks for classic snaps in /snap/bin could point directly do the target binary instead of indirecting through snap and snap-confine, am I at least asking a legitimate question? Surely making a handful of symlink changes would be easier than developing a delegation extension for AppArmor.

I too had this problem. Same error message in the grub prompt. I had to burn a live-cd, and boot from it. Reapairing grub from live- system didn't work, it "failed to get canonical path of /cow". So I reinstalled the whole System while keeping all my settings, files, stuff in /home, and so on that worked quite well and getting things back to normal is done in no time. [Bug 1849669] Re: do-release-upgrade (19.04 -> 19.10) aborts
I should also mention that when I did run 'apport-collect 1849669', I got the following error: dpkg-query: no packages found matching ubuntu-release-upgrader Which seems correct 'cos I don't have it installed. I have: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core ubuntu-release-upgrader-gtk ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt All are version 1:19.10.15. And when I raised this bug, I'd already done a "dpkg -S /usr/bin/do- release-upgrade" and learned that that program was in ubuntu-release- upgrader-core. This website wouldn't let me raise a bug report for ubuntu-release-upgrader-core, because that package didn't exist (according to it). It did suggest that I used package ubuntu-release- upgrader. I pondered about this for a while, and then I saw that the source package ubuntu-release-upgrader created the 3 binary packages listed above, and decided that it was OK. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849669 Title: do-release-upgrade (19.04 -> 19.10) aborts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1849669/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1849947] [NEW] Dell XPS 13 (7390) Display Flickering - 19.10
Public bug reported: Hi there, I recently purchased a Dell XPS 13 7390 (Developer Edition). I decided to replace 18.4 LTS with 19.10 and so far it has been pretty smooth. However, there is one issue which occurs frequently whereby the display flickers and becomes unusable. The best way to describe the appearance is that the image becomes heavily distorted. Sometimes it only happens for a split second, other times it is permanently distorted. When this happens, simply closing the laptop lip and re-opening seems to put the display back into it's correct state. I didn't experience this issue on 18.04 LTS which is why I believe it's a Software Bug within 19.10. More updates. There was an issue with Powerlevel, at least as documented here. https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k/issues/280 However, the issue seems to be lower level. I was able to reproduce this on my other laptop with 18.04. As long as that line is not there, the latest version of ZSH + oh_my_zsh + Powerlevel10k are working fine. [Bug 1849948] [NEW] Unvisible line when switching between tabs in list mode
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine Caja version: 1.22.2 My Ubuntu is in German. So I try to translate in English the terms i'm using. How to reproduce - Switch to "supplementary tab" with F3. - Set the display mode to list-view in both tabs. - Select on a tab any file/line. - Switch to the other tab. ==> the line in the previous is still selected, but has the wrong font color (white) / background color => the line is invisible. - Switch back to original tab ==> the previous line in the previous tab has the same problem... I expect - Either the selected line in the previous tab is unselected and has the same font display as the neighbours' ones. - Or the selected line in the previous tab is still selected but the background display colour is still active. Notice -- - This bug does not occur if the display mode is "symbol" or "compact" view, instead of list-view. Thank you for quickly fixing it. I cannot use Caja any more as my standard file manager. [Bug 1841774] Re: gnome-shell freezes and continuously logs "JS ERROR: TypeError: null has no properties" in _addWindowEffect from vfunc_show (both in closeDialog.js)
I have this problem as well. Virgin/Clean install of Eoan Desktop install in a KVM virtual machine. Install package cqrlog, which has a long startup time and usually causes the "not responding" dialog to raise, but can be dismissed. Under Eoan, the "CQRLOG is not responding" dialog cannot be dismissed - both "Force Quit" and "Wait" are greyed out and cannot be selected. gnome-shell then runs to 100% cpu utilisation (one thread/core) and repeatedly logs: gnome-shell[4157]: JS ERROR: TypeError: null has no properties#012_addWindowEffect@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/closeDialog.js:74:13#012vfunc_show@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/closeDialog.js:145:9 in syslog. Killing gnome-shell clears the "not responding" dialog. [Bug 1849949] [NEW] Caja does not appear as application in the Ubuntu activity / apps list
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine Caja version: 1.22.2 My Ubuntu is in German. So I try to translate in English the terms i'm using. How to reproduce - Press the Windows-key or the button "Display applications" at the bottom of the task bar. ==> Caja is not appearing in the list. - Supply the word "Caja" (without double apostrophe) in the Search Field. ==> Caja is not appearing in the result. But Ubuntu-Software knows the Caja is installed on my computer. It is annoying but not really a problem. Workaround -- - Start Caja from the command line. - Mark it as a favorite. ==> So you have it if you need it. [Bug 1849950] Re: Window shortcuts maximize, windowed and hide (Super + Up / Down / H) don't work
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1849950/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1849955] [NEW] Display jumps on dock/undock and on volume/brightness overlay
Public bug reported: I often dock/undock my laptop, introducing two additional displays. Every time I dock/undock (and when using the volume/brightness controls after undocking) the display jumps about. Here's a video showing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfhPrh2y7Y8 Steps to reproduce. * Plug laptop into a docking station (possibly just attach an external display) * Configure the desktop running spanning all displays * Remove the external display / undock * Observe the laptop desktop jump around * Use the brightness or volume adjust keys * Observe the laptop desktop jump around Expected behaviour * The desktop should not jump around ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: gnome-shell 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-18.19-generic 5.3.1 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-18-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Oct 26 14:15:11 2019 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-02-04 (628 days ago) InstallationMedia: neon userlts "Xenial" - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20180202-11:07 RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to eoan on 2019-09-19 (36 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849955 Title: Display jumps on dock/undock and on volume/brightness overlay To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1849955/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
