I have had another dev try this on fedora which also has gcc 9.2.1 and it works there. But since it fails in "as" which is actually binutils lets add that as a bug task. [Bug 1843688] [NEW] Trying to upgrade OS to latest LTS after purging PPAs
Public bug reported: System Information: Unbuntu 16.04 LTS 64 Bit Using apt-cache policy pkgname gives me "N: Unable to locate package pkgname" Going through the software update option I was informed that the LTS for version 18 of Ubuntu was now available so I went ahead to install this. First time around I was told some of my PPA's could be causing a problem so i purged these and tried again. Expected behavior would be that the upgrade works with minimal user interaction What actually happens is that I do not get past the second part of the upgrade and i get the message saying the upgrade could not be completed. The lid open did not wake it and neither did pressing the power button. The problem happens in all Clevo models: P960E*, P970E*, P960R*, P970R*, P960RC*, P970RC, PB51E*, PB71E*, PB51R*, PB71R* with mainboard identifiers (cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/board_name): - P95_96_97Ex_Rx - PB50_70EF_ED_EC - PB50_70RF_RD_RC - P9XXRC and NVIDIA GPU (in this case: GeForce RTX 2060 and also on GeForce GTX 1660 Ti). The problem only happens with kernel >= 5.0.0 and using the NVIDIA proprietary driver. On kernel 4.18 suspend works without problems on both GPU's (NVIDIA and Intel) When using the Intel GPU or the nouveau driver then suspend works without problems.
