[Bug 1810075] Re: lxqt-panel: menu-button opens in wrong position (on portrait display, normal on landscape..)
Lubuntu 19.10 QA-test. Picture of issue reported in comments of qa-test. My cursor is over the icon "Funny Cockatoo Video - Crazy Corellas.." but the menu opens much higher on the display than expected. This box (d755-8) has two displays, the right is portrait-left tilted (why the menu on landscape-left display is not at bottom). The top of displays was roughly equal (on picture you can see it's not perfectly aligned). ** Attachment added: "1910_daily_menu_position.jpeg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-panel/+bug/1810075/+attachment/5286307/+files/1910_daily_menu_position.jpeg ** Tags added: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810075 Title: lxqt-panel: menu-button opens in wrong position (on portrait display, normal on landscape..) [Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild haproxy with openssl 1.1.1 will change features (bionic)
I talked with Alex of the security Team. Here the TL;DR summary: - security would prefer and be +1 on enabling TLSv1.3 in haproxy in Bionic - Server team is ok as well, while it is a feature addition it seems not to take away any - thereby it would fall under the third section of [1] "add features without affecting existing features" - In case the SRU Team "nacks" this upload then instead we should prepare and upload a change to "avoid to enable TLSv1.3 by accident" I checked later releases, >=Disco are already built with the new version so no other than Bionic would need to be changed. [Bug 1842388] [NEW] Timeout waiting for hardware access (CSR_GP_CNTRL 0xffffffff) with backport-iwlwifi-dkms 7744 against 4.15.0-1051-oem
Public bug reported: [Impact] There is a new feature added from stable kernel 3fa98d338296 ("PCI / PM: Allow runtime PM without callback functions") and this feature lead to the backport-iwlwifi dkms driver fails to resume from runtime suspended. [Fix] iwlwifi driver fails if pci_finish_runtime_suspend() is called, so check if runtime_suspend() function is provided before calling this function. [Test] Verified on Dell Precision 5540, wifi keeps working even after S3 test. [Regression] Low. pci_finish_runtime_suspend() puts the PCI device into a low power state, it doesn't hurt if we don't call it, and it passes the 30 times S3 test, so it should be fine to not to call it if runtime_suspend function is not provided. ** Affects: linux-oem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: In Progress ** Affects: linux-oem (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Assignee: AceLan Kao (acelankao) Status: In Progress ** Patch added: "0001-UBUNTU-SAUCE-PCI-PM-Don-t-call-pci_finish_runtime_su.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842388/+attachment/5286315/+files/0001-UBUNTU-SAUCE-PCI-PM-Don-t-call-pci_finish_runtime_su.patch ** Also affects: linux-oem (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-oem (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => AceLan Kao (acelankao) ** Changed in: linux-oem (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842388 Title: Timeout waiting for hardware access (CSR_GP_CNTRL 0x) with backport-iwlwifi-dkms 7744 against 4.15.0-1051-oem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem/+bug/1842388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild haproxy with openssl 1.1.1 will change features (bionic)
Prepped the SRU Template and found a few potential tricky bits while summarizing, I'll now bring this to the attention of the SRU Team to make a call. ** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * openssl 1.1.1 has been backported to Bionic for its longer +support upstream period + + * That would allow the extra feature of TLSv1.3 in some consuming +packages what seems "for free". Just with a no change rebuild it would +pick that up. + + [Test Case] + + * run "haproxy -vv" and check the reported TLS versions to include 1.3 + + [Regression Potential] + + * This should be low, the code already runs against the .so of the newer +openssl library. This would only make it recognize the newer TLS +support. +i'd expect more trouble as-is with the somewhat big delta between what +it was built against vs what it runs with than afterwards. + * [1] and [2] indicate that any config that would have been made for +TLSv1.2 [1] would not apply to the v1.3 as it would be configured in +[2]. +It is good to have no entry for [2] yet as following the defaults of +openssl is the safest as that would be updated if new insights/CVEs are +known. +But this could IMHO be the "regression that I'd expect", one explcitly +configured the v1.2 things and once both ends support v1.3 that might +be auto-negotiated. One can then set "force-tlsv12" but that is an +administrative action [3] + * Yet AFAIK this fine grained control [2] for TLSv1.3 only exists in +>=1.8.15 [4] and Bionic is on haproxy 1.8.8. So any user of TLSv1.3 in +Bionic haproxy would have to stay without that. There are further fixes +to TLS v1.3 handling [5][6] which aren't in 1.8.8 in Bionic. +So one could say enabling this will enable an inferior TLSv1.3 and one +might better not enable it OTOH nothing of this seems to critical, but +for an SRU the bar to not break old behavior is intentionally high - I +tried to provide as much as possible background, the decision is up to +the SRU team. + + [1]: https://cbonte.github.io/haproxy-dconv/1.8/configuration.html#3.1-ssl-default-bind-ciphers + [2]: https://cbonte.github.io/haproxy-dconv/1.8/configuration.html#3.1-ssl-default-bind-ciphersuites + [3]: https://www.haproxy.com/documentation/hapee/1-8r2/traffic-management/tls/#define-bind-directives-on-the-frontend + [4]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/blob/master/CHANGELOG#L2131 + [5]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/commit/526894ff3925d272c13e57926aa6b5d9d8ed5ee3 + [6]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/commit/bc34cd1de2ee80de63b5c4d319a501fc0d4ea2f5 + + [Other Info] + + * If this is nack'ed we will need an upload that prevents to enable +TLSv1.3 to avoid enabling it by accident on e.g. a security update. + + --- + haproxy needs to be rebuilt after #1797386 to take advantage of TLSv1.3. ** Description changed: - ehci-platform is the USB host driver for several platform and also - available in Xenial HWE kernel, but initramfs does not copy it into - initrd and system can not boot from USB storage on that machine. + [Impact] + If you install Ubuntu onto USB storage behind a Platform USB host controller, it will not be able to boot because the generated initramfs will not include the host controller driver. + + [Test Case] + Install to a USB stick attached to platform USB controller and reboot. Booting will fail because it will be unable to find the root file system. + + [Regression Risk] + Driver is only loaded when system requires ehci-platform, minimizing the impact to all other systems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842284 Title: initramfs does not copy ehci-platform To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1842284/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841595] Re: [MIR] tpm2-tss
[Summary] It looks rather good in general, but there are a few things that should be improved/resolved before promoting this: - the package needs a bug subscribing Team - please update to 2.1.4 or 2.3.1 before we promote it - also ensure that it will be updated regularly in the future - please add proper symbols tracking via a .symbols file - please help to resolve Debian bug 918973 - in any case the package needs a security review - we can add you to the security review queue now, but for the MIR ack please resolve the above [Duplication] OK: Upstream switched from the optional universe tools tpm2-abrmd/tpm2-tools to the hard dependency to this package. >From just the description it seems similar to IBM TSS2 (http://ibmswtpm.sourceforge.net/ibmtss2.html). But on one hand that is not in Main either and it seems that tpm2-tss is what upstream projects select. There are a few reverse deps to tpm2-tss but non to the IBM TSS2 atm. The projects seem to know and coexist e.g. IBM-TSS2 simulator is used to test tpm2-tss. The short answer to this is, that there is no other equivalent functionality in main yet. [Embedded sources and static linking] OK: - no embedded libraries - no static linking - no go code [Security] OK: - no past CVEs in tpm2-tss itself but e.g. CVE-2017-7524 in related tools - runs no daemon as root - does not use webkit1,2 - does not use lib*v8 directly - does not opens a port - does not use centralized online accounts - does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop - does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc) Reasons to consider it security critical: - it doesn't parses "data formats" but data on API calls which is the same - it doesn't really processes arbitrary web content - but the scope in which this came up is fwupd which means it will be part of processing content (for updates). And since that content is downloaded it is to some extend processing web content. - while it doesn't deal with system auth with more FIDO2 coming up and the TPM being the core of that it might still be important. - Furthermore the whole purpose of this lib is to deal with the TPM which is by default security relevant. [Common blockers] - builds fine currently (no FTBFS) - unit tests are present which run at build time - code isn't translatable, but also not end user facing - no python code, so no special checks for that Need to be resolved: - no bug subscriber yet [Packaging red flags] OK: - no Ubuntu delta - debian/watch is present - current maintainers are not MOTUs - no massive Lintian warnings - d/rules is small and clean - d/control has no Built-Using - does not use golang - all sub-dependencies are in main libc6, libgcrypt20 and adduser Should be resolved: - updates are not slow or sporadic, but on the old version - The current release is not packaged 2.1.0 October 2018 There is 2.3.1 most recent of August 2019 or at least 2.1.4 of May 28 (stable fixed for 2.1) - It's a library, but lacks symbol tracking [Upstream red flags] OK: - no Errors/warnings during the build - no Incautious use of malloc/sprintf (that I'd have seen) - no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (only in Dockerfile and install.md) - no use of User nobody - no use of setuid - no known important bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu - but https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=918973 seems to be bad enough that it should be resolved before promotion especially if needed to be right for fwupd - no Dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-* - no Embedded source copies - not in scope for the Unity Dash ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #918973 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=918973 ** CVE added: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2017-7524 ** Changed in: tpm2-tss (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841595 Title: [MIR] tpm2-tss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tpm2-tss/+bug/1841595/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841894] Re: Wayland: Image of mouse cursor left on screen after unlock
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected wayland-session ** Description changed: Gnome 3 desktop Multi-monitor setup with one screen rotated right into portrait mode *Experimental* fractional scaling on Wayland with different scaling on each monitor. Configured using: ~~~ gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']" ~~~ After wake from screen lock I often observe an "image" of an enlarged rotated mouse pointer on the second (rotated) monitor which doesn't move and doesn't appear on a screenshot. It overlays all other screen in formation and cannot be erased by moving the mouse over the area. Depending on where the mouse cursor was when sleeping it seems to appear in one of two places, either towards the bottom left or top right. After some time a block around the cursor image gets "corrupted". This behaviour is not observed if logging in to a X11 session Because this doesn't show up on a screenshot I have included a photo, which also shows the monitor setup. [Bug 1842364] Re: sudo localedef from docker does not work anymore after upgrade from 4.4.0-1088-aws to 4.4.0-1090-aws
ok I think I have pinpointed a bit more precisely the issue , on the kernel with the bug , if from the container I do localedef -i fr_FR -c -f UTF-8 -A /usr/share/locale/locale.alias fr_FR.UTF-8 stat /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive I got File: /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive Size: 1679760 Blocks: 3144 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 10301h/66305d Inode: 521785 Links: 1 Access: (0644/-rw-r--r--) Uid: (0/root) Gid: (0/root) Access: 2019-09-03 08:57:16.661569167 + Modify: 2019-09-03 08:57:16.661569167 + Change: 2019-09-03 08:57:16.661569167 + if i switch to the non admin user and I do head, I can't read it (but I can list /stat it) now if I do chmod o+r /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive stat /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive I got exactly the same thing File: /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive Size: 1679760 Blocks: 3144 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 10301h/66305d Inode: 521785 Links: 1 Access: (0644/-rw-r--r--) Uid: (0/root) Gid: (0/root) Access: 2019-09-03 08:57:16.661569167 + Modify: 2019-09-03 08:57:16.661569167 + Change: 2019-09-03 09:00:39.418079016 + (except the change date that has changed) but now if i go as an admin again and i do head it works ! so in the first stat, the permission reported were wrong ahd somewhat, redoing chmod o+r corrected it. Note that if as root I touch a file, I don't have this issue, so the file created by localedef is created a bit differently that what "touch" does -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842364 Title: sudo localedef from docker does not work anymore after upgrade from 4.4.0-1088-aws to 4.4.0-1090-aws To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+bug/1842364/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension
After update to kernel 5.0.0-27-generic, it became even worse. Now Ethernet doesn't work right from the boot, and "modprobe" solution has no effect. What's interesting, Ethernet interface seems up (and visible to NewtworkManager), but doesn't appear to serve packets at all. As far as packet statistics go, packets are transmitted, but never received. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752772 Title: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1752772/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension
UPD: The same issue, as described in previous post, reappeared when booting the older 5.0.0-25-generic kernel. It seems like data race that can be triggered randomly on certain boots. Again, removing "r8169" didn't help either, but suddenly, putting my laptop to suspension, then repeating the module removal process resolved it.

[Bug 1841040] Re: r8169 ethernet sometimes doesn't work after cold boot/boot
I've a similar bug occurring on the following kernel versions: * 5.0.0-23-generic * 5.0.0-25-generic * 5.0.0-27-generic However, quite a few things are different in my case. [Bug 1841040] Re: r8169 ethernet sometimes doesn't work after cold boot/boot
I *think* there is better and more pleasant workaround rather than rebooting every time this bug affects you. Try putting your computer into suspension, then wake it up. In most of the cases Ethernet interface fails to start at all. If it does, then reloading its driver may help it this point: # modprobe -r r8169 # modprobe r8169 This worked for me on 5.0.0-25-generic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841040 Title: r8169 ethernet sometimes doesn't work after cold boot/boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1841040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1842408] [NEW] rabbitmq-server writes to /etc/rabbitmq
Public bug reported: Hi, I just ran into a design problem of the ubuntu/debian installation of rabbitmq-server. I tried to configure rabbitmq with puppet, it didn't work, and I debugged it. Problem: the puppet plugin changes ownership of /etc/rabbitmq to root, while the ubuntu/debian package requires it to be rabbitmq.rabbitmq, because the tool rabbitmq-plugins needs to write to /etc/rabbitmq/enabled_plugins and create /etc/rabbitmq/enabled_plugins.tmp So if the /etc/rabbitmq belongs root, rabbitmq-plugins can write only if run as root, but then it issues error message because ownership trouble with rabbitmq daemon, which expects things to be rabbitmq. It is definitely a poor and insecure idea to give an /etc directory ownership to a daemon and use it to store state information. /etc/rabbitmq/enabled_plugins definitely belongs to /var/lib/rabbitmq, and as far as I know, this is what linux design guides say. [Bug 1841915] Re: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome Wayland session
I have tried to reproduce this but I can't, not in a VM or on my real system (i915). I tried with and without automatic login, with the vanilla GNOME session and with the Ubuntu session, with and without the same user logged in over SSH (to keep the systemd --user instance alive), and every log in/out cycle worked. Sorry :/ I'll note that VT switching works for me on all machines, and I see no lingering processes after logging out. One thing I did manage to reproduce, using the attached program (a daemon which doesn't quit when SIGTERMed, which I was trying to use to recreate your situation. Run it from xterm *not* gnome-terminal), is a 30 second *delay* on logout. Did you wait longer than that? If I edit `/usr/lib/systemd/user/gnome-session-wayland.service` and add TimeoutStopSec=5 at the end (then reboot), then the delay reduces to 5 seconds. I'll ask upstream about whether that's a good idea but this might not be your problem. If you go to `/usr/share/wayland-sessions/`, you can remove `--systemd` from the `Exec=` line of the session you're using, to revert to the previous method of launching the session. If that fixes it, then (in the broken situation), please enable GDM debug output (/etc/gdm3/custom.conf), and while the system is hanging fetch the output of 'loginctl', then for each session listed there, 'loginctl show-session ' and 'loginctl session-status ', as well as 'journalctl -b' and attach them here. Thanks. ** Attachment added: "daemon.c" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1841915/+attachment/5286400/+files/daemon.c -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841915 Title: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1841915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841915] Re: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome Wayland session
I tried (just now) deliberately leaving it longer than 30 seconds to come back after a logout. In fact left it longer than 60 seconds. Nothing happening. I wasn't logged in via ssh as well at the time (I hadn't thought the systemd --user instance was related to the ssh session before so presumably might be confusing matters) so there's nothing more to report than that the screen remained resolutely black. There is no /usr/lib/systemd/user/gnome-session-wayland.service file on this system. There is a .target file though which is presumably the one. As the presumably-default timeout didn't seem to be honoured here there didn't seem a lot of point in adding a shorter one so I left the file alone. I'll try the change to /usr/share/wayland-sessions/ubuntu- wayland.desktop (the only file in that directory) and report back in the next comment... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841915 Title: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1841915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1800794] Re: usb-modeswitch can't apply Configuration=0 to Snapdragon X12 LTE
So to summarize you found the newline issue, but that proved to not be related to the error message you get, even if fixing it may be necessary as a partial solution. If I modify the test script by commenting the newline fix I get: File "/lib/modules/5.0.0-25-generic /kernel/drivers/net/usb/cdc_mbim.ko" not found. I.e. no error message. So we are kind of stuck. [Bug 1842417] [NEW] Consider reintroducing home encryption using fscrypt
Public bug reported: Home encryption using ecryptfs was removed in Ubuntu 18.04 for reasons. Full disk encryption was recommended as an alternative. Not everyone agrees that encrypting the entire disk is the best alternative. Some prefer a more lightweight solution. Others have families and like to share a laptop, perhaps even with an unprivileged guest account, and family members want to encrypt their home with a personal password. For some, full disk encryption is unwanted because of reasons. Linux Mint 19, based on Ubuntu 18.04, re-introduced home encryption using ecryptfs because users wanted it. Can we re-introduce home encryption, this time using fscrypt? Not only was this suggested (way prematurely) by the Ubuntu 18.04 release notes, it's also nearing completion with final patches scheduled for Kernel 5.4. It would be beneficial if we could get this as an option for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
