[Bug 1827884] Re: Boot problems after upgrade to kernel 4.15.0-48 (18.04.2LTS/i386)

2019-06-10 Thread Valentyna
When I add kernel parameter "nopti" the problem also disappears. I
tested kernel version 4.15.0.50.52 and 4.15.0.51.53, all boots were
successful.

[Bug 1829872] Re: No more desktop effects since libdrm upgrade in Bionic

2019-06-10 Thread Timo Aaltonen
You need to remove gnuplot temporarily to test the downgrade, even
though I'm more convinced that it'll not change anything. The X log
shows that DRI2 is set up normally, so it has to do with KDE somehow.

[Bug 1832179] [NEW] loading in script directly from command line broken in package

2019-06-10 Thread Lloyd Wood via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

try this:

sudo apt-get install savi
vi this-is-my-sim-script.tcl
(some constellation creation thing)

savi ./this-is-my-sim-script.tcl

SaVi: couldn't find file passed as parameter.
SaVi: For 3D visualization, run from within Geomview.
SaVi: defaulting to J2 orbital model.

If you compile savi yourself, this works as expected:
cd savi1.5.1
./savi ../this-is-my-sim-script.tcl

and loads and runs the script.

Not sure if modifications made by maintainers changed behaviour.

[Bug 1757218] Re: QCA9377 isn't being recognized sometimes

2019-06-10 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
** Description changed:

- Sometimes, the Wireless Network Card QCA9377 is not recognized on boot.
- This caused, on prior versions, a kernel panic at boot. With Bionic, the
- system boots but is unable to use wireless network. On dmesg there are
- messages like:
+ === SRU Justification ===
+ [Impact]
+ Qualcomm WiFi/Bluetooth may disappear after boot.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Disable USB2 LPM at shutdown phase, to prevent it from lingering in LPM
+ L1. Pull back the device to full power before shutdown imitates the
+ behavior on Windows.
+
+ [Test]
+ The affected user confimed it fixes the issue.
+ I can also confirm that
+ a) The power drain in S5 is much lower,
+ b) Both WiFi and Bluetooth are always present during reboot stress test.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. Only a limited number of USB2 devices that support LPM.
+
+ === Original Bug Report ===
+ Sometimes, the Wireless Network Card QCA9377 is not recognized on boot. This
caused, on prior versions, a kernel panic at boot. With Bionic, the system
boots but is unable to use wireless network. On dmesg there are messages like:

  [2.680590] usb 1-7: new full-speed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd
  [2.808640] usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -71

  [5.364589] usb 1-7: device not accepting address 10, error -71
  [5.364655] usb usb1-port7: unable to enumerate USB device

  And lspci and lsusb don't show the wireless network card. The
  alternative is to turn the system off. Reboot don't work and reboot to
  Windows 10 also don't. The system must be powered off to restore
  functionality. Then, on the next boot, it works properly.

  However, after the system is turned off, it may cause the issue again.
  This is not 100% consistent, but mostly it cycles between powering off
  and powering on the notebook as:

  Work -> Don't work -> Work -> Don't work

  On Windows 10 this doesn't happen but when happens on Ubuntu, it's
  possible to reboot and see the status on Windows 10 too: on Device
  Manager it's shown a unidentified USB device at 1-7. Sometimes, on
  Windows 10's Network Devices it's shown, instead of the QCA9377, from
  four to six different devices with generic names and Bluetooth and/or
  Wireless don't work.

  When turning Ubuntu off, there are messages that appears a few instants
  before the system is turned off:

  Mar 18 18:27:26 usuario-Lenovo-ideapad-310-14ISK kernel: [14146.403388]
ath10k_pci :02:00.0: failed to install key for vdev 0 peer

wlp2s0: failed to remove key (0, xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) from hardware (-110)

  Generally, only the second message appears (but both are recorded on
  kern.log). The MAC adress is the one from the router, not from the
  wireless card.

[Bug 1832182] [NEW] systemd unable to detect running apache if invoked via "apache2ctl graceful"

2019-06-10 Thread RedScourge
Public bug reported:

When starting or restarting Apache via the /usr/sbin/apache2ctl script,
systemd becomes unaware of the state of Apache, causing "systemctl
status apache2.service" to report "Active: inactive (dead)". Below I
describe the issue and a fix; attached is the output of the diff command
after I fixed it on my own 18.04 LTS system.

Description of issue and impact:

Despite this issue, Apache itself generally runs fine, so this is not an
absolutely critical issue, however as both "systemctl status
apache2.service" and "service apache2 status" become unable to detect
its running state, and as some people may be scripting Apache service
checks using those commands, they may experience server outages when
they migrate from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS or 18.04 LTS, so this could
potentially have serious consequences. I suspect this caused or at least
contributed to at least one outage of a web server I am responsible for,
as the web file backup script was unable to restart the apache process
after stopping it.

This issue affects Ubuntu 16.04 LTS when using "apache2ctl start" or
"apache2ctl graceful", and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS just when using "apache2ctl
graceful".

Fix:

The fix is made somewhat obvious due to the fact that the issue was
fixed for "apache2ctl start" in 18.04 LTS , by replacing the regular
call which resolves to "/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start" with a check for
presence of systemd, followed by invoking "systemctl start
apache2.service" if that check is affirmative, or falling back to the
old start command if that check is negative.

Attached is a diff of the file before and after I copied the fixed
invocation from the "star"t subsection to the "graceful" subsection in
18.04 LTS. A fix for 16.04 LTS would require copying that block both
into the "start" and "graceful" subsections.

[Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

This is a problem for non-dell computers also.

18.04.2

kernel:
4.18.0-21

This link is down:
https://dev.solus-project.com/T5224

Was the workaround mentioned there different than the ones here?

-

Is there a bluetooth file that people can easily remove with Synaptic so
we don't have to tell them to go edit code? Part of the problem with
that is it will ask them to remove the network manager though and they
won't be able to get on the internet if they ok it.

2019-06-10 Thread Anthony Wong
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v5.2-rc4 kernel[1].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1815550] Re: gnome-shell high memory and CPU usage when desktop files are constantly created or deleted

2019-06-10 Thread Vadym Stupakov
Hello!

Have same problem:
With zsh as default, every time I press "Enter" in terminal there is 4s delay
in whole system.
I monitored CPU and CPU utilization is 100% every time I press enter in the
terminal.

So, the problem was that I removed useless folders in $HOME: Desktop,
Music, Templates, etc.

After, I noticed that value of $XDG_DESKTOP_DIR is "$HOME/" (But it was
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop" before deletion of that directories)

WORKAROUND:
I created all that stuff again and changed ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

Now it looks like that:
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Downloads"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/Templates"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="$HOME/Public"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Documents"
XDG_MUSIC_DIR="$HOME/Music"
XDG_PICTURES_DIR="$HOME/Pictures"
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/Videos"

Then re-login.

[Bug 1829872] Re: No more desktop effects since libdrm upgrade in Bionic

2019-06-10 Thread Thomas Nemeth
In the log "apt-upgrade-libdrm2-no-gnuplot", gnuplot has been entirely
uninstalled :(

As for libgl1-mesa-dri :

$ apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-dri
libgl1-mesa-dri:
  Installed: 19.0.2-1ubuntu1.1~18.04.1
  Candidate: 19.0.2-1ubuntu1.1~18.04.1
  Version table:

Packages
 18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1 500

So it seems it also comes from proposed (last upgraded on 2019-06-07,
previously on 2019-05-10).

It's unfortunate that you can't reproduce what I have here :(

This results in the firewall log driver not being able to map the
message to the associated port and log resources in neutron resulting in
the 'unknown cookie packet_in' warning message.

[Bug 1832145] Re: X.org freeze after selecting nvidia profile on Plasma Desktop

2019-06-10 Thread Luca Mastromatteo
#1 doesn't happen to be always the case, most of the times the desktop
become unusuable.

Anyway, with further testing I updated the bug.

Looks like related to the X server settings.

Opening it TWICE after selecting the NVIDIA card from intel, triggers
this behavior.

** Summary changed:

- X.org freeze after selecting nvidia profile
+ X.org freeze after selecting nvidia profile on Plasma Desktop

** Description changed:

- - Using ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
+ - Using ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, also tried 19.10 development eoan edition.
  - Tried driver NVIDIA 390 + 430 from the repo, same result
- - KDE Plasma desktop
+ - Happens only on KDE Plasma desktop
+ - Does not happen on GNOME desktop
+ - Used the X server settings instead of the CLI

  Reproducibility: 75%

  Steps required:
  - Installing nvidia drivers on an optimus laptop
  - Rebooting
  - Select NVIDIA GPU with prime from Intel
  - Waiting some seconds
+ - Opening NVIDIA X server settings again, increases a lot the chance of the
freeze to happen (looks like it gets the nvidia module loaded even before the
session logout)

- Bug observed:
- - Before the nvidia module gets loaded (I could type lsmod | grep nvidia fine
and no module is loaded after the first 3 seconds)
- - When (presumably) the nvidia driver is loaded, the X.org session locks up.
The mouse cursor can move things, but cannot click anything, everything else on
the screen is frozen up
+ Bug observed:
+ - Before the nvidia module gets loaded (I could type lsmod | grep nvidia fine
and no module is loaded after the first 3 seconds)
+ - When (presumably) the nvidia driver is loaded (checked from a tty), the
X.org session locks up. The mouse cursor can move things, but cannot click
anything, everything else on the screen is frozen up

  Workaround: Killing the X.org session gives an usable graphical system

- Notes: If the session ends (doing a logout so SDDM) there is no lockup
- at all, but once the nvidia driver is loaded, it looks like it's when
- the issue appears.
-
- I recently moved from 19.04 to 18.04.2 LTS, and I don't remember this
- issue happening at all, is that some fix that needs to be backported?

[Bug 1829872] Re: No more desktop effects since libdrm upgrade in Bionic

2019-06-10 Thread Thomas Nemeth
So...

You made me question what could have happened if the libraries were not
the cause of KDE's behavior change. You already told me you thought KDE
was involved and indeed it was. The upgrade caused a deactivation of
composition enabling at startup, with a big warning message saying that
it has the reputation of beeing instable.

You were right: KDE's the culprit here. Anyway, I'm truly grateful for
you help, and sorry to have opened this bug report in the first place.

Thank you for all. I think the br can be closed now...

[Bug 1832215] Re: If python package is installed under get_python_lib(prefix='/usr/local') it cannot be imported by python

2019-06-10 Thread vital
The root cause is the Debian patch: https://salsa.debian.org/cpython-
team/python3-stdlib/blob/master/debian/patches/3.6/distutils-install-
layout.diff

The patch changes behavior of the `get_python_lib` for two paths '/usr' and
'/usr/local', see:
https://salsa.debian.org/cpython-team/python3-stdlib/blob/master/debian/patches/3.7/distutils-install-layout.diff
Lines 144 and 152-157.

I would suggest remove '/usr/local' from the line 144 to fix.

[Bug 1832215] [NEW] If python package is installed under get_python_lib(prefix='/usr/local') it cannot be imported by python

2019-06-10 Thread vital
Public bug reported:

When `get_python_lib` function is called with `/usr/local` prefix it
returns path which is not included into `sys.path` list. Consequently if
python package is installed under this path it cannot be imported by
python.

Path which is returned:
$ /usr/bin/python3 -c "from distutils.sysconfig import
*;print(get_python_lib(prefix='/usr/local'))"
/usr/local/lib/python3/dist-packages

`usr/local/path` which is present in `sys.path`
$ /usr/bin/python3 -c "import sys; print('\n'.join(sys.path))" | fgrep
'/usr/local'
/usr/local/lib/python3.6/dist-packages

There is the same bug reported to the `python3` package
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3-defaults/+bug/1814653)
I created this report to stick it to the correct package.

1) The release of Ubuntu

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04

2) The version of the package

$ apt-cache policy python3-distutils
python3-distutils:
  Installed: 3.6.7-1~18.04
  Candidate: 3.6.7-1~18.04
  Version table:
 *** 3.6.7-1~18.04 500

Packages
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main i386

 3.6.5-3 500
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main i386 Packages

3) What you expected to happen

Path returned by `get_python_lib(prefix='/usr/local')` call is present
in `sys.path` list.

4) What happened instead

`get_python_lib(prefix='/usr/local')` returns /usr/local/lib/python3
/dist-packages which is absent in `sys.path`

[Bug 1820130] Re: [SRU] modem-manager-gui fails to start after modemmanager is upgraded to 1.10.0-1

2019-06-10 Thread Graham Inggs
Hi Jan
Yes, this package should be identical to the one in my PPA, but please test
again with the official version from the archive.

Would you be willing to test the Disco version as well please? I am
unable to do the verification as I don't have an affected modem.

[Bug 1829749] Re: Please add support for zipl signing

2019-06-10 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Worked with ~cjwatson to add Secure Initial Program Load signing to
launchpad. Changes deployed to dogfood and test packages uploaded.
This results in a vmlinuz.sipl gaining a vmlinuz.sipl.sig, and an
appropriate control/sipl.x509 file. The signed binary validates
correctly using the public key. Looks good.
