[Bug 1810489] [NEW] Old libu2f-udev package version on 18.04 LTS

2019-01-04 Thread Szczepan
Public bug reported:

Current libu2f-udev package on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is old (v1.1.4 [1]) and
it does not contain the Udev rules for the latest U2F devices. Due to
that users cannot use them straight away, without further software
update steps. For cosmic/18.10 it was already updated to v1.1.6 [2].

[1] https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/libs/libu2f-udev
[2] https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=libu2f-udev

OS details:
Ubuntu 18.04
libu2f-dev version: v1.1.4.

Expected:
Update of the package to v1.1.6 or latest.

Current:
Current package version is v1.1.4, thus OS is not handling the latest U2F
devices straight away.

[Bug 1801496] Re: Printing job in 16.04 is slower than in 14.04

2019-01-04 Thread William.Yeung
Dear Till,
Happy new year!
I'am very sorry to bother you again.

We are still working hard to looking for cause why Ubuntu 16.04 printing
performance slowdown.

Here are some information that may can be helpful for the investigation:

We figure out that "foomatic-rip" is the key object which slowdown
printing performance.

Satistics the time of "foomatic-rip" use by the method of counting the
time from “[Job 691] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip”
to “ [Job 691] PID 11751 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) exited with
no errors.”

[Bug 1810499] [NEW] Provide a function to undo all upgrades of proposed packages

2019-01-04 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

While packages which are upgraded by versions delivered by a PPA are
easy to downgrade with `ppa-purge` an equivalent function is missing for
packages installed from `proposed` after it has been activated. Afaik
the overview provided at https://askubuntu.com/questions/59443/how-can-i
-revert-back-from-an-upgrade-to-the-proposed-repository is still the
current state.

The switch to `proposed` can be an easy way to fix issues, however once
the fix makes it into an `-updates` repository it is a legitimate use
case to stop using `proposed` packages since they can be troublesome.

It'd be nice to automate the function provided by the scripts listed in
the askubuntu.com post in a maintained official Ubuntu software. Most of
the functionality is probably provided in `ppa-purge` already.

[Bug 1785171] Re: Intel I219-V Ethernet Interface on Ubuntu Linux Using e1000e Driver keeps Dropping Internet Connection

2019-01-04 Thread Johannes Jørgensen
I'm getting this on Ubuntu desktop 18.10 at work. It seems to be happening more
and more often. Today it's up to 5 times within 2-3 hours. Currently I fix it
by disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable after af few seconds.
This is becomming rather painful.

Saw this new stacktrace at g_cancellable_make_pollfd() right now, too.
For me this occurred while I was hammering quickly in the lockscreen

2019-01-04 Thread Benjamin Schmid
@vanvugt Seeing this VERY regularly in cosmic, too. Just came back here
to re-check the status of this long-term annoying issue.

The fact is, that gnome shell provides me a VERY poor UX experience:

Logged out for the session more than 10mins? Type your password and go
get take a coffee, because it literally takes 1-2 minutes until the
session finally crashes and restarts. Before my PC it literally
unusable. Sometimes I also switch to the login screen and re-login into
my running session to somehow provoke the crash to get it usable.

Ah – and by the way: On some occassions lockscreen does not work and
expose the clickable (!) left sidebar. In this case I only can unlock
via the login-screen way to crash the session.

Also commonly in normal operation the left sidebar looks strangely
sized. Then I need to type "r" to restart the shell to resume normal
operation.

Feels really like an old, nearly dying device …

2019-01-04 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
The cause of this seems to be that we are just telling the SUT to create
a metadata block groups with raid 5. The data block groups was not
specified. It will be using RAID0.

So that when one disk corrupts, the raid will corrupt. The system will
prevent user to mount the partition as rw to prevent data loss (you can
mount it with read-only).

[Bug 1788098] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2019-01-04 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From leona...@ibm.com 2019-01-04 06:12 EDT---
I have tried the following test in order to reproduce the bug:

##
root@localhost:~# uname -a
Linux localhost 4.15.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 24 06:14:44 UTC 2018
ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux
root@localhost:~# cat /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled
[always] madvise never
##

dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/shm/img bs=2M count=2000
md5sum /dev/shm/img > test.md5

After the migration, i did:
md5sum -c test.md5
And the result was OK. (memory not corrupted).

I also modified the above test allocating chunks of 2M, this way:

for i in {0001..2000} ; do dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/shm/img_${i} bs=2M
count=1 ; done
md5sum /dev/shm/* > test.md5

After the migration, i did:
md5sum -c test.md5
And the result was OK for every file. (memory not corrupted).

Conclusion:
- I have found no difference between patched and unpatched kernel during the
tests.
- The memory after the migration seems fine, returning the same memory block
(tested with md5sum)

Is there any other suggestion about how to reproduce the bug?

Thanks!

I have been using Linux 4.15 as a workaround too. I noticed I could
reproduce the bug easily by watching YouTube on Chrome in fullscreen. I
know it is related to the GPU, but in my case, the Intel drivers (Mesa

[Bug 1810517] [NEW] re-enable GhostScript in ImageMagick

2019-01-04 Thread Mikhail Novosyolov
Public bug reported:

This security updated https://usn.ubuntu.com/3785-1/ added the following
to /etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml

This prevents from working with PDF, e.g. `convert file.pdf file.png`.
It is a very common use case and is a suggested way to convert PDF to
image on many websites, including ask.ubuntu.com

I had to remove/comment those lines from /etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml
to allow ImageMagick to work with PDF, otherwise it was:

$ convert test1.pdf test1.png
convert-im6.q16: not authorized `test1.pdf' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/412.
convert-im6.q16: no images defined `test1.png' @
error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3258.

Can you please reenable GhostScript?
I don't think that it is so insecure that so common use cases must be disabled,
people, who do not read usn.ubuntu.com frequently, will not understand the
error.

Also, those security update disabled GhostScript on the fly; what if I
used it on servers or for daily desktop tasks?

[Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69

2019-01-04 Thread Diego Bersanetti
I have some new information: the bug is still happening as before, today
I resumed my session and the login screen got stuck as usual; I left it
there for a couple of minutes, then I unplugged and replugged the
ethernet cable and, as soon as the network was up again, the session was
unlocked! Maybe this can be helpful to understand the bug...
