[Bug 1789012] Re: Grsync doesn't ask for password for a remote->local backup via SSH

2018-12-22 Thread Nick Sinik
Using Grsync to perform a remote to local backup works OK (grsync
1.2.6/ubuntu 18.04 LTS), just run on the local server ssh-keygen then
ssh-copy-id to the remote server and grsync will complete sync not
asking for the password.

[Bug 1809536] [NEW] Empty desktop background after screen unlock - only dock with app icons and top panel, cannot see any app

2018-12-22 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (intermittently, ~1 per 10 times):

1. Leave the computer until the screen is blank - two monitors, no multimonitor
plugin
2. Move the mouse to unblank the screen
3. Drag lock screen to top + enter password

Actual results
- Ubuntu dock is visible (with app icons)
- Top panel is visible, but with limited options (e.g. no "Sleep" button, no
app indicators)
- Empty desktop background
- Clicking the app icon does nothing - there is some animation effect, but it
looks like the application would be 'behind' the background
- Clicking "Applications" menu animates but then disappear as well

Partial workaround:
1. Ctrl-Alt-F1
2. Choose the same user and enter password
3. You'll come back to the "empty desktop". But in a few seconds applications
appear with a few limitations:
a) Top panel features are still limited (no sleep/power off buttons in menu, no
app indicators)
b) Ubuntu dock shows different set of apps on each 1st and 2nd monitor

[Bug 972826] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in find_subtree_recurse()

2018-12-22 Thread ghislaingeffroy
Hi Paul,

I no longer have this phone and I use Ubuntu 18.10 now.

With news versions of Ubuntu I no longer have this issue.
I think this ticket can be closed.

Thanks and good luck cleaning-up this huge pile of tickets.

[Bug 1645555] Re: Dropbear initramfs hook creates authorized_keys file in an invalid folder

2018-12-22 Thread Paul NGUYEN THANH
Everything looks OK in /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-*

etc/group
etc/passwd
root-xx
root-xx/.ssh
root-xx/.ssh/authorized_keys

NB: root-xx/.ssh/autorized_keys comes from /etc/dropbear-
initramfs/authorized_keys must be in 'dropbear' format, not 'openssh'
format, then use dropbearkey or dropbearconvert, and update-initramfs to
recreate your initrd image.

But it seems that root-xx/.ssh/authorized_keys isn't expanded
properly from initrd !!!???

Because:

First, I worked around with /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/dropbear
script to create several copies of this authorized_keys in $home and
$DESTDIR, then in BusyBox, on (initramfs) prompt, I can find one in /
from $DESTDIR, one in /root-xx/ from $home, but none in /root-
xx/.ssh/ !!!???

Second, I'm booting thru PXE, and iPXE, with an HTTP server, then I have
the ability to download authorized_keys, or to move other copies that I
stressed above, into /root-xx/.ssh/, and can, then, log in...

Why is not expanded properly even it is well located in the initrd
image

If the enable_autosuspend option doesn't fix your issue, I think you are
encountering a different bug (with overlapping symptoms). For clarity,
it might be best to open a separate bug report for your issue.

[Bug 1458204] Re: removing kernels should not require a restart afterward

2018-12-22 Thread Barry Kolts
I also can verify 1.1ubuntu1.18.04.7~16.04.1. Yesterday new kernels were
installed and a reboot performed. Today old kernel was removed and no
reboot performed. This test also used the new update-notifier-common
version 3.168.10.

Yesterday I received an email telling me that new kernels had been
installed and a reboot was performed, as it should, but today I received
no email stating the old kernel had been removed. I expected one. Is
this a new bug?

[Bug 1809531] Re: upgrading issue

2018-12-22 Thread Juhani Numminen
PPAs are not suppoerted by Ubuntu and may cause problems when upgrading
the system. Please follow the advice given by oibaf and also apply the
procedure to other PPAs if necessary.

>From https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers:

=== Upgrading to a newer Ubuntu ===
It is *strongly* suggested to remove all packages from this PPA before updating
to a newer Ubuntu release. See the section "Revert to original drivers" later
on.
Then, after the upgrade, you can add again this PPA.

=== Revert to original drivers ===
To revert to standard Ubuntu drivers type the following in a prompt shell:
$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

[Bug 1809547] [NEW] 16.04->18.04 : screen lock on windows+L, impossible to reconnect

2018-12-22 Thread djjudjju
Public bug reported:

Hi,

While upgrading my Ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04, I used the shortcut windows+L
while going away from my computer, which locked the screen.
I received a message that screen lock would be disabled when I launched the
version upgrade, but apparently it does not include windows+L.
I am running Ubuntu on a VM on Windows, a screenshot is joined to this bug.
The upgrade is still running because the resource monitor indicates that
VirtualBox is still consuming Network. I am planning to let it run till network
stop being used, and restart my Ubuntu to see if it still work. I will update
this bug then.

[Bug 1771335] Re: haproxy fails at startup when using server name instead of IP

2018-12-22 Thread Gustin Johnson via ubuntu-bugs
I can confirm that I also have this issue. If I ssh into the host and
manually issue "systemctl restart haproxy" haproxy runs just fine. I am
also using hostnames that resolve via DNS and not /etc/hosts.

This is a headless VM on wired network (KVM bridged network). The IP is
assigned via DHCP.

There is nothing in /etc/netplan

/etc/hosts only has the default localhost entries and some IPv6 lines at
the end (this network does not have IPv6, only the link local stuff).

/etc/resolv.conf points to the localhost and thus I used:
 sudo systemd-resolve --status
to get the actual DNS server(s), which are correct and functioning as expected.

Any other ideas?

[Bug 1809550] [NEW] Atril shows just fragments of ePub book

2018-12-22 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.5 i386
atril-1.12.2-1ubuntu0.3

I noted that just few chapters from ePub book are visible when opened in
Atril. For some unknown reason (a bug ;-) only several chapters from the
ebook are visible.

The source of the ebook (Perl tutorial in Czech language); book can be
downloaded for free.

https://knihy.nic.cz/files/edice/perl_pro_zelenace.epub

The same book in PDF, a reference for troubleshooting
https://knihy.nic.cz/files/edice/perl_pro_zelenace.pdf

When the epub book is opend in Atril, it shows that book has 59 pages
and it shows just several "paragraphs" from each chapter. That is just a
small fragment of the whole book.

You can open the same epub book with Sigil and you will see how much
more text is in the book. Or compare with pdf version of the book.

[Bug 1808075] Re: Backport Unicode/Emoji 11 updates

2018-12-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I installed pango1.0 1.42.4-3ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 18.10 and verified that
the red-haired man now displays correctly in gedit.

I also opened the GNOME Characters app (.deb and snap versions) and
verified that emoji there still displayed ok.

[Bug 1809552] [NEW] Ubuntu sees duplicate display for each graphics card on Macbook Pro

2018-12-22 Thread Anish Moorthy
Public bug reported:

After booting Ubuntu in BIOS mode on my machine for years, I just
switched over to EFI boot. The reason for which I switched is that, on
this machine, Ubuntu cannot detect the integrated GPU under BIOS boot.

Ubuntu now recognizes both integrated and discrete GPU on my machine,
but it also seems to think I have two monitors.

Expected Behavior: Ubuntu properly recognizes that both graphics cards
are in fact controlling the same display

Actual Behavior: Ubuntu thinks I have two displays (each being
controlled by a separate card?). If I navigate to the "Devices >
Displays" section of the settings app, then Ubuntu lists two "Built in
Displays," and offers options to "Join Displays," mirror them, etc.

I have created a question on AskUbuntu
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/1103696/ubuntu-duplicates-display-for-
each-graphics-card-fresh-install) detailing this issue; it presents much
of the same information in this bug report, along with several images.

I have also discovered a similar thread from three years ago
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/582574/my-macbook-has-two-built-in-
displays) suggesting that I am not the only Macbook user to suffer from
this issue. The user in said thread worked around this issue by powering
off his iGPU. I would like to set up graphics switching in the future,
so this is not an option for me. In any case, I have tested his
"solution" and it DOES NOT work on my machine (I also don't have a
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo folder like he apparently does)

[Bug 1787834] Re: package winbind 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed winbind package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-12-22 Thread linixpatrick
I'm using Ubuntu as a an Active Directory domain controller. During
updates the error is generated. It appears that since winbind is a sub
process of the samba ad dc the installer is unable to manage winbind in
the same way as if winbind was started as a stand-alone service at boot
time. I have run testparm with no errors and the samba ad-dc is still
working. I tried stopping the samba ad dc service and updating windbind
but that doesn't work either.

And of course, after a reboot, the daemon "docker" is not started

[Bug 1807250] Re: At some point in the 18.04 cycle, /sys/bus/iio has disappeared from my system

2018-12-22 Thread Your full name
The issue now appears resolved with hwe-18.04/4.18.0-13, /sys/bus/iio is
now present and the functionality has been restored.

Summary:
/sys/bus/iio appears to be missing on all the bionic 4.15.* kernel releases
(including 4.15.0-43) but is present on xenial 4.4 and cosmic 4.18 (at least as
of 4.18.0-13). Here is to hoping there is not a similar kerfuffle with RNGs and
stuff :P

I hope this is some kind of a tasteless joke If you really, really,
really insist on having a visible folder inside the home dir, you can
just create a ln - Snap linking to .snap (or whatever the real folder
would be). I wont repeat everyone, but totally agree with them

[Bug 1809556] [NEW] zram freezes computer

2018-12-22 Thread Elvis de Freitas Souza
Public bug reported:

I bought a new setup and since then my computer is having random
freezes, it stop respond until you make a hard reset (pressing reset
button)

* I noticed that this issue is more common when running java programs, i.e.
Intellij, Spring Boot applications (I'm a java developer) and using chrome.
* I also noticed issue is not related to high CPU usage

Steps I did to reproduce the issues

* Turned computer on
* Started Intellij
* Opened chrome and let a video playing
* Started a java application with a considerable consume of memory (500MB)
* Keep starting and stopping that application

I did the following tests and had the same results

* Tested on ubuntu 16.04, 18.04, 18.10 with it's original kernels, also tested
on kernel 4.19
* Tested with nouveau (With and without GPU installed)
* Tested with Nvidia proprietary drivers
* Tested with Nvidia ubuntu repository drivers
* Installed latest BIOs
* Removed one of my two memories

Steps I did to stress my computer and got no issues

* Ran memtest (got no issues)
* Stressed my computer and RAM with stress tool (got not issues)

Steps to fix the problem

* apt purge -y zram-config
* Restart the computer

** Affects: zram-config (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1804603] Re: systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service fails on btrfs

2018-12-22 Thread supersasho
Hi everyone,

right now I've got an emergency mode only with 18.04 (kde neon) and
systemd=237-3ubuntu10.9 with btrfs. Is there a patch for 18.04/bionic
that could be tested out? Seems like LTS release has been forgotten
about. Downgrading to 237-3ubuntu10 isn't an option as it breaks ton of
dependencies.

Thanks for any suggestions.

[Bug 1809500] Re: Ruby crashes on login to imap.gmail.com (ssl)

2018-12-22 Thread Geir Isene
After further research, this seems to actually not be Ruby version
specific - because I purged my Ruby 2.5.1 that comes with Ubuntu 18.10
and installed 2.5.3 and 2.4.5 via ([ruby-
install](https://github.com/postmodern/ruby-install) and tried both
versions - and they both show up with the bug. So, my conclusion must be
that there is something else wrong in 18.10, perhaps not Ruby specific
at all (but still very odd that it works with Python and openssl
directly).

[Bug 1809560] [NEW] user not added to default scanner group

2018-12-22 Thread Teodoro
Public bug reported:

I have to add manually my user to "scanner" group to perform a scan.
Without this addition, software like "simple scan" find scanner, but it
results busy, so I'm not able to scan. So why this isn't to default?
Same thing on Ubuntu 18.10 and 18.04.

[Bug 1809547] Re: 16.04->18.04 : screen lock on windows+L, impossible to reconnect

2018-12-22 Thread djjudjju
Hi,

After waiting a bit, I managed to solve the issue by opening a guest
session, and then logging out while connected as guest. Then I find
myself on the right lock screen, and I can connect to my account by
using my password.

I guess this can be a solution if the bug happen to other people.
