[Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen

2018-11-15 Thread Joshua Hartwell
Nevermind, the full solution from the link did in fact work for me.
Using nvidia-driver-390.

I am copy/pasting the solution here for any other users:

1. Create an xorg.conf file for your nVidia device. All you have to do
for this is to launch the command:

sudo nvidia-xconfig

This will create a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

2. Edit the created file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add at the end the
lines:

Section "Files"
 ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg"
 ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

3. Save and restart the X server. Now, for the first and second user you
should have the nvidia driver in use, with the correct resolution and
fast rendering. You can check it using the command:

--- Note by JoshuaD: I did not try anything below this line -

glxgears -info |grep NVIDIA

which should return the nvidia opengl version.

Note, there is also a problem of slow scrolling in the virtual console
(Ctrl-Alt-F1). To solve this, edit /etc/default/grub and set the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX variable as:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="video=vesafb:mtrr:3,ywrap"

then do:

sudo update-grub

and reboot. Now, the scrolling speed in the virtual console should be
very fast.

[Bug 1801898] Re: Only one of two external (displayport) displays is working without hotplug

2018-11-15 Thread Andreas Vinsander
Why is the bug still marked incomplete? I have provided the apport
information.

** Description changed:

- After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10 from Ubuntu 18.04, when logging in my one of
my two external displays will not be activated without hotplugging the other
external display.
+ After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10 from Ubuntu 18.04, when logging in one of my
two external displays will not be activated without hotplugging the other
external display.
The display settings app shows the second display as inactive, and when
trying to activate the settings app states that some hardware limitation stops
it from being possible to apply the change.
The laptop lid is closed, the internal laptop display is not active.

Hotplugging the other external display solves the problem - after
hotplug both external displays are active. This makes the bug annoying
  but workaroundable.

I am not sure if this bug belongs to the Xorg package or the linux
  package.

  Hardware:
Thinkpad t430s laptop sitting in a Thinkpad 4338 docking station, with two
external displays connected through displayport (via docking station).

[Bug 1769610] Re: Support Intel Atom (Baytrail-I) HS-UART serdev slaves over tty

2018-11-15 Thread Shrirang Bagul
@Dorian,

Can you please share the acpidump for IB8000 Atom Braswell board?

Also, please check if Debian 4.16.0-2 has CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=y
enabled by default. If not, then ttySx ports on this kernel will not be
claimed by the Serdev bus sub-system.

  and no third-party modules.

down into the inner window area. When you try to move the window ones again
upwards you will see a broken graphic part of the window as background and the
graphic structure of the window get lost. All these movements with the left
mouse bottom pressed.
But:
If you move first the window to the left border and forward out of the screen
area you can move the window down without the graphic problem. If at least a
small part of the window is outside of the left screen area you can move the
window up again passing through the bottom zone of 2 or 3 cm without problems.
On the right-hand side of the screen area these movements are impossible.

A big problem you will have with a windows virtual machine in full screen mode.
You can't use the bottom menu.

(This week y made the upgrade from 16.04.n to 18.04.1 with big graphic
problems, black screen etc.
Then reinstall gnome from command line solved the problems with black screen.)

[Bug 1803507] [NEW] Caja crashes when trying to view a parent directory

2018-11-15 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

Using VisualWorks to check some of my data files. With over 4 million
files, manual checking is unreliable and slow. When VisualWorks finds an
error I try to use Caja to view the directory and its contents. I
clicked the parent directory I wanted (../../../) and waited, and
waited, and waited. After 8 minutes I decided that Caja had crashed
since every Caja window is frozen. I searched the web for how to kill an
app. The Force Quit Button looks very neat, but installing one does not
work in MATE. I finally found Alt F2 and xkill which works works.

The only background activity was a Terminal command:
cp -anR "/media/robert/4TB Seagate 3/Users" "/media/robert/6TB Seagate 1"
which has been running for 3 days and I assume crashed because I see no new
directories showing up on the target volume.

Apparently Ubuntu MATE 18.04 has a design flaw. It does not handle large
external drives well and is slow as continental drift with a 6TB drive
mounted. Trying to copy 1 TB onto a 6TB drive takes over 6 days. Copying
3 TB from a 4TB to a 4TB takes only two days. This is an obvious design
scale defect. (An algorithm which works with a small set of data may not
work acceptably with a large set of data.)

Please have the developers examine their design and find out where the
flaw is. Have them plug in a 12 TB external USB 3 drive (the largest
commonly available size for desktop computers ) and see incredible
slowdown. (Using Caja to view a directory may take over 3 minutes to
show 247 files.)

[Bug 1776978] Re: Update to calendar invitations cannot be processed: HTTP error code 412

2018-11-15 Thread shadyyx
So this bug was reported on 14th of June 2018 but it was _confirmed_
only on 7th of November 2018? With this speed we can expect the fix to
be rolled out some time end of 2019?

This is a serious issue and I got a plenty of troubles at work already
because I always click on "Accept" directly in the email invitation
which does not display any error but an "information" saying exactly
this: "Unable to send item to calendar 'myCal'. Cannot receive calendar
objects: Invalid object" and nothing else.

I have never noticed this small information to popup somewhere in the
calendar part of the invitation email and always thought I am fine.
Until I got few notices from my boss that I am not accepting the
invitations. So I started to look for a problem and only then I realized
that all my "accepts" from Evolution are not sent.

Besides that the fact I cannot edit my calendar entries eventhough I am
not the organizer is also a problem. I cannot add (invite) anybody else
for example and always have to go to Google Calendar (which I have to
everytime now to either accept or decline the invitation).

I started using Evolution only recently as I was using Thunderbird for
dozens of years before but got tired with it. But now when I see the
speed of solving serious issues, I think I am switching back soon.

[Bug 1801496] Re: Printing job in 16.04 is slower than in 14.04

2018-11-15 Thread William.Yeung
Dear Till,
Thanks for your investigation of this problem.

Below are the information we found maybe helpful for the investigation:
As we said before:"The phenomenon that print jobs slower in 16.04 is more
obvious when printing many jobs in the same time."
We figure out that the interval time of one print job to the next print job is
huge when print many jobs in the same time.
And the error_log files shows that the step below takes time , this step is
only exist in 16.04:
"Expiring subscriptions..."

Attach file description:
File 1: error_log.1-16.04-orca-rpdl-20181113_Job284_290: error_log of Job284 to
Job 290 is the consecutive printing 7 jobs on 16.04 in the same time.

File 2:error_log.2-14.04-orca-rpdl-20181114_Job327_332 : error_log of Job327 to
Job 332 is the consecutive printing 7 jobs on 14.04 in the same time.
---

By the way, we did the ghostscript investigation of you advice, but we
didn't found it cause the slowdown problem.

Best Regards,

2018-11-15 Thread Torsten Krah
Of cause I can do the required testing. I can verify the bugs I can reproduce -
at least issue 2 and 17 are fixed with that new version (already patched and
compiled a local package for that ^^).
So just tell me when the package is ready in proposed and I'll give it a try.

[Bug 1789356] Re: The wrong background flashes up briefly during the login animation since Yaru was introduced

2018-11-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I now think the proposed gnome-shell version 3.30.1-2ubuntu1.18.10.1 is
fine. It doesn't need fixing in itself but it does hit a mutter bug
which needs fixing per the above link.

Since they would be released at different times anyway, and the
secondary regression is probably already visible in disco, we may as
well release the gnome-shell fix to cosmic now. The mutter fix is
complete and will come soon (only waiting on upstream review).

Hi Kelly,

Looking at the logs:

-
Job for nmbd.service failed because a timeout was exceeded.
See "systemctl status nmbd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
invoke-rc.d: initscript nmbd, action "restart" failed.
Status: "nmbd: No local IPv4 non-loopback interfaces available, waiting for

STATUS=daemon 'nmbd' : No local IPv4 non-loopback interfaces available, waiting
for interface ...NOTE: NetBIOS name resolution is not supported for Internet
Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).
-

Part of the Samba package is NetBIOS name resolution, which isn't
supported on IPv6: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetBIOS#Name_service

Check to see that your router has issued you an IPv4 address and not
just an IPv6 one.

Also, re: your second post, you're getting a lot of errors to the effect
of "XYZ bionic Release does not have a Release file", which means that
the repository doesn't have any packages for Ubuntu bionic (you're
subscribed to the wrong repository).

You also have PPA repositories that don't support bionic (you can remove
them from /etc/apt/sources.d):

 E:The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/me-
davidsansome/clementine/ubuntu bionic Release' does not have a Release
file.

If all else fails, these are safe defaults for /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates main restricted universe
multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security main restricted universe

[Bug 1799397] Re: [dpdk]rte_memcpy() moves data incorrectly on Ubuntu 18.04 on Intel Skylake.

2018-11-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
The compilers didn't make a difference.
The versions in Disco for gcc7/8 generate the same results.

But then for me it never generated the wrong code:

Steps:
git clone git://dpdk.org/dpdk
apt build-dep dpdk
apt install gdb build-essential libmnl-dev
apt update && apt upgrade
make defconfig
vim build/.config
# switch on MLX PMDs
make -j
# safe the static linked testpmd to analyze it
cp ./build/build/app/test-pmd/testpmd /root/testpmd.native
objdump -d -M intel -gS /root/testpmd.native >
/root/testpmd.native.objdump.intel

This is the upstream discussed repro, by default it builds -march=native
which will select -mavx512f

$ gcc -march=native -Q --help=target | grep avx512f
  -mavx512f [enabled]

But in my case no broken vmovdqu[0-9] were generated (with none of the
versions).
Upstream seems to settle on disabling -mavx512f, that is recommended to
everybody building that manually for now.

An upcoming stable release might add the same in the code, but -mno-
avx512f seems to do the trick for anyone else until then.

As long as this isn't reproducible I'm not spending more time for now.

[Bug 1803327] Re: iconv no longer transforms UTF8 to CP1252 as it used to under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

2018-11-15 Thread Bernard Moreton
Yes, I've done dumps to od -xc, and I agree - iconv is behaving
correctly.

Under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, passing multibyte characters from a database into RTF,
then on into LibreOffice caused the unknown character symbol () in
LibreOffice.
Using "unix2dos < in.txt | iconv -f UTF-8 -t CP1252 > out.txt" fixed that, then
- seemingly by getting pure latin-1 into the RTF file, as the RTF spec.
requires.

Now, under Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, it appears to cause the problem If I use
this this transform, I get the unknown character symbol in the LO
document, and if I leave it out, and put multibyte characters into the
RTF, LibreOffice shows them correctly.

So other things have changed, as well as ICONV, and I see other recent
references to multibyte characters in RTF. And in any case, it's not
really desirable to have non-ASCII latin-1 characters in a UTF8
environment.

Thnk you for your care. Please close this bug report.

2018-11-15 Thread Carlo Lobrano
There are 4 gnome-initial-setup.desktop files in my system

/usr/share/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop
/usr/share/gdm/greeter/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop

/usr/share/ubuntu-wayland/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop

I believe this is the problem, but is it expected that not all .desktop files
are the same?

[Bug 1802630] Re: apache ssl auth failed in renegotiation

2018-11-15 Thread Karl Stenerud
Hi Laurent,

Looking at the logs I see:

[Sat Nov 10 08:16:12.182245 2018] [ssl:error] [pid 46718:tid
139825336280832] [client 14.134.18.222:26999] AH02033: No hostname was
provided via SNI for a name based virtual host

This message would only occur if you had SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck set to
"on" (it defaults to off). I think there are probably a lot of
confounding factors that are making it difficult to track down the root
cause. Can you put together a set of steps that re-create the issue in a
virtual machine or container?

[Bug 1396654] Re: C++ demangling support missing from perf

2018-11-15 Thread Kristian Spangsege
Ok, on 18.04 (Bionic), if I do this

```
sudo apt-get build-dep linux-tools-4.15.0-39-generic
sudo apt-get install libiberty-dev binutils-dev
mkdir tmp
cd tmp
apt-get source linux-tools-4.15.0-39-generic
cd linux-4.15.0/tools/perf
make
```
I do get a perf command that demangles (so I now have a workaround)

Still, if I use `debuild` instead, as shown in my previous post, the
command is apparently built differently and is not able to demangle.

So, I can confirm the findings similar to post #24.

2018-11-15 Thread Paul White
Rajiv (and anyone else affected),

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that
time.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported?

Please let us know if you do otherwise this bug report will expire in
approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
