[Bug 1800327] Re: local movies are broken

2018-10-28 Thread Shayan Zahed
Edit: videos work fine on VLC, so that means the default video player is
broken? because I moved from ubuntu 18.04 to LM 19 because videos didn't
work at all even on VLC, VlC just crashed and games didn't load even
after fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04, so I decided to move to LM 19, and
after the new Ubuntu update I decided to install Ubuntu 18.10 this time
as a secondary OS beside LM 19 to check if it still has that issue and
once I saw that videos looked glitched in the default video player I
automatically thought It would have the other issues too because I
thought they were all related.

[Bug 1800329] [NEW] Ubnutu 18.04 LTS KDE Neon does not resolve local (or single name) queries through DHCP assigned DNS (cached) server on local network

2018-10-28 Thread Venca B Spam
Public bug reported:

Ubnutu 18.04 KDE Neon does not resolve local (or single name) queries
through DHCP assigned DNS (cached) server on local network.

** How to reproduce? **

1. Let's have local network (e.g. 192.168.123.0/24) connected to the Internet
through router called GATE
2. The GATE provides local DNS server cache (via Dnsmasq) and contains couple
of local name translations (e.g. SuperCooolLocalServer pointing to
192.168.123.50).
3. Let's have fresh new Ubuntu 18.04 (KDE Neon)
4. Connect to the local network through WIFI (WPA2 encrypted, jsut enter
password)

** What happens? **

Any desktop application trying to connect to SuperCooolLocalServer will
fail when resolving the name to IP.

When tested in terminal "host SuperCooolLocalServer" will return
SERVFAIL.

** What is expected? **

The system should resolve the name SuperCooolLocalServer to
192.168.123.50 as it did until Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

** Observation **

The system should do the resolution in the same logic as other home
appliances running various operating systems (my iPhone, my wife's
Galaxy, ours Ubuntu 16.04LTS, Windows 7, 8.1 10 and our other network
components running various Linux based distributions.)

I did quick test and the bug shows also on clean Ubuntu 18.04 (without
the KDE Neon flavour).

** Affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1291969] Re: No usb on resume from suspend

2018-10-28 Thread adihezral
Hi, i'm not sure if this is same bug or not but symptom is similar. I managed
to get it working but wasn't sure which actually made it worked but now it
stopped working again.
I have a Dell Latitude E7250 and i boot into the 18.04 based elementaryOS from
usb, so after resume the filesystem becomes read-only and i can't save the
dmesg output.

What i've done
1. Added #32 workaround
2. Added udev rules to set power/control for my usb device to auto.
3. Enabled USB Powershare in the bios (not sure this was the one but the issue
was gone after i set this after the above 2, 2 days later issue came back)
4. Set usbcore.autosuspend=-1 in grub
5. Upgrade to 4.19LTS

Symptom:
1. On AC: suspend/resume works perfectly
2. On Battery: if resume from suspend while AC succeded, the second resume
while on Battery works but the subsequent suspend/resume fails in system
read-only again.
3. On Battery: suspend/resume does not work resulting in system read-only.

I've been trying to reproduce my earlier success but to no avail.
Even a fresh install, the system will become read-only
Right now, suspend/resume only works on AC which leads me to suspect the USB
hub/device is making this fail.

p/s sorry if i'm not following the right bug reporting etiquettes. i've
done a lot of searching and tried multiple solutions but still can't fix
this. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i will provide any help
i can.

[Bug 1685442] Re: Errors: flip_done timed out during boot-up; slow boot

2018-10-28 Thread Damian Campbell
On Dell Inspiron 1525 auto upgraded from xubuntu 16.04 LTS 64bit to
18.04 LTS. This bug appeared.

Then tried clean install of Xubuntu 18.04.1 The bug appeared from moment
of boot of cd. Bug present also in Ubuntu 18.04.1

Grub edit of Video=SVIDEO-1:d works.

As a committed Ubuntu fan of years going on decades, I cannot adequately
express my strong disapointment that a bug serious enough to prevent
effective installation for many users remains on a live LTS distro some
6 months after release even after revision to 18.04.1 I was able to fix
it, (sudo edit of grub) but most affected users would be unable to and
simply walk away. How many people walked and therefore never escalated
this bug because they never got far enough to be able to?? Come on
development team! Please remember that Ubuntu is supposed to be about
ease of use and the users!!! Should do better

[Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

2018-10-28 Thread Bored Individual
Forgot the quotes around 'EOF', tested and it works for me.
Make sure you check if the service is enabled

Run the following commands:
---
cat<<'EOF'>bugfix-1759836.service
[Unit]
Description=Fix for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1759836

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/bin/bash -c "services='systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket
systemd-udevd-control.socket';systemctl stop $services;systemctl start
$services"

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF

sudo cp bugfix-1759836.service /etc/systemd/system
sudo systemctl enable bugfix-1759836.service

systemctl status bugfix-1759836.service
---
It should display something like:
  Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/bugfix-1759836.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)

After a reboot again run:
systemctl status bugfix-1759836.service

Hopefully they get this fixed soon.

[Bug 1054299] Re: Race condition in suspend scripts reveals desktop

2018-10-28 Thread Jarno Suni
The "error" you tell in #47 is actually not an error, but warning. It
should not stop suspend from working. Theo, did bluesabre test the
patch? Did the test fail even if xflock4 returned 0?

[Bug 1791806] Re: alsa does not detech headphone output on Clevo P651RS laptop

2018-10-28 Thread Felipe Ortega
This week I got updates for several packages apparently related with
sound management, as well as a new kernel. After update and reboot, the
headphones jack started to work again. Connection/disconnection was
correctly managed in PulseAudio, and audio quality was very good.

However, like in the previous cases, as soon as I plugged in both the
headphones jack and the mic jack I got a peak of noise in my headset,
and everything stopped working again. Even connecting the headphones
only

Thus, maybe the key is some problem with *both the mic and headphones
jacks* connected at the same time.

Finally, my laptop support service provided this fix for turning off the
S/PDIF red light in the headphones connection:

mkdir -p ~/.config/autostart
tee -a ~/.config/autostart/disable_optical_led.desktop
Then, reboot.

Nevertheless, I have not tested this yet, just in case that for some
reason it may disconnect the complete headphones jack, preventing me to
test any solution for this problem.

[Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69

2018-10-28 Thread GrzesiekC
Hello again all,

In my #10 comment, I forgot to mention that my system it is upgraded
from ubuntu 16.04.4.

As it is, on Thursday (25-10-2018), two major things happened:
1. The kernel was updated to - Linux E7470 4.15.0-39-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Tue
Oct 23 15:48:01 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

2. I "rewound" my bash history file. I was looking for any workarounds,
I performed during the lifespan of my 16.04.x. I found a line where I
was messing with my Intel driver. To be honest, ATM I'm not sure why,
but I added this file to resolve some other forgotten issue.

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

and here is the content:

Section "Device"
Driver "Intel"
Identifier "Intel"
EndSection

I deleted the file.

Why I bother you with this long post - since Thursday , I haven't had any
single lock-up.
So, it looks like, one of those two helped in my case.
Finger cross it will stay this why for a bit longer.

[Bug 1670291] Re: Landscape: Upgrade 14.04.5 to 16.04.2 fails unable to reboot

2018-10-28 Thread Damiön la Bagh
So physically at the machine it was only possible to log into the
command prompt. There is no graphical interface available.

To top it off

Network manager was stopped! Not very good for network-manager to be
stopped right after an upgrade.

sudo service network-manager restart

started the network, where I could resume fixing the computer over ssh.

sudo apt install -f

is my first course of action.

[Bug 1785587] Re: lide100 scanners produce a white/orange band in scanned images on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-10-28 Thread Chris
Followed the instructions from "Gabriel N. <1731...@bugs.launchpad.net>",
posted Fri, 05th Oct 2018,
works fine for me, just changed the ./configure-option from defaults to
"--prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var".

After install the patched
libsane1_1.0.27-1~experimental3ubuntu2_amd64.deb, do a "ldconfig" and
start the simple-scan prog, booting the OS was not necessary.

Both of my Lide 100 now works as expected.

Hope the ubuntu-guys would insert this simple patch in the near time
also ...

greetings to all
/chris

[Bug 1800347] [NEW] Defining 2 dhcp ranges for static dhcp definition causes dnsmasq to not start - subnet other than /24 not accepted?

As soon as I activate one of the last lines, dnsmasq refuses to start with the
error msg that the range was incorrect, although there is no overlap in range,
nor is the range incorrect.
I am starting to think that this might be a bug, maybe dnsmasq cannot cope with
subnets other than /24?

Thanks for your support!

[Bug 1072136] Re: [FFe] After doing updates, update manager propose to install an empty list of updates

2018-10-28 Thread KennoVO
The good news: released fix works.

What's a bit worrisome, though, is that I had to *manually* run
sudo apt-get install update-manager update-manager-core python3-update-manager
in order to be able to use update-manager to install all other updates, some of
which were long overdue because of this bug.

I'm not sure if update-manager would eventually have updated
automatically, but even then, I can imagine that a lot of users would be
permanently at risk from outdated software because of having disabled
automatic updates or because of running ubuntu on a laptop that never
gets the chance to update automatically [as the bug itself prevents
updating manually, at least for users who only know update-manager].

suggested that I update to 18.04. I did that and went for run. I came
back my screen was still there but the menu was gone. I forced a
restart. I now get a screen for bios load then sda3_crypt. I put in my
password and I get a blank screen with a blinking cursor that I cannot
move and nothing else. I cannot recall what my kernel was. I just wanted
tot ask if there has been any resolution on this issue...today is

Public bug reported:

after upgrade to ubuntu 18.10, when resuming from lock (eg re-opening
laptop lid), before typing password (or indeed anything), the whole
desktop including running apps is displayed. although they are not
interactable/responsive, sensitive info is displayed.

possibly related, super+l seems to put the desktop into a similar state
- apps visible, but not interactable. pressing it a second time
produces a more normal lock reaction.

[Bug 1800355] [NEW] Allow file as command line argument

2018-10-28 Thread Jan Smith
Public bug reported:

When invoking kile from my working directory using something like "kile
main.tex" the error "Unknown host main.tex: Host not found" is raised.

This always worked in previous versions and is an unnecessary and user-
unfriendly change of behaviour. In most cases kile will be used to work
on a file or project in the current directory and it should be easy to
run it for that purpose, making it use a specific file or directory
initially.

Kile also crashes with a segementation fault when invoking with the
command "kile ."

If kile is started from inside a directory without an argument and one
then tries to open a file from the current directory, the open file
dialog does NOT show the current directory but one has to start from the
home directory which is extremely annoying.

All in all the behaviour of kile for starting working on some file in a
directory has degraded so much as to make it unusable.

** Affects: kile (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1768352] Re: mate-screensaver screen lock can be bypassed by power cycling monitor

2018-10-28 Thread KennoVO
Any progress on fixing this in the LTS version?

AFAIC this is a pretty high-profile security issue, and may not very
prudent to leave open for months after it's fixed upstream. Imagine the
storm of bad press if Microsoft or Apple were to pull something like
this - or even if this bug report catches the eye of the wrong people...

[Bug 1774994] Re: Laptop wakes up immediately after suspend or hibernation

2018-10-28 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
@Kai-Heng Feng (kaihengfeng) just an update...

Suddenly my suspend totally broke down (wakes immediately from suspend)
using same kernel I had for a few months (outdated `4.13.0-36-generic`).

In order to update to newer kernels I had to install libssl1.1 to side-
step linux-header installation errors.

Either libsl1.1 or newer kernels broke dkms makefile's for nvidia,
bbswitch, virtual box, etc. So I had to use: `sudo apt install libelf-
dev`

I ended up successfully upgrading to mainline kernel `4.14.78` but now
suspend takes 30 seconds to break and goes to login screen instead.

So I'm out of the frying pan and into the fire...

[Bug 1781418] Re: User not being initialized correctly on login

2018-10-28 Thread ZdravkoG
Hi everyone,

I have similar problems. Updating to libpam-kwallet packages (libpam-
kwallet-common, libpam-kwallet4 and libpam-kwallet5) to version
4:5.12.7-0ubuntu0.1 from proposed repository didn't solve anything for
me. Probably the problem solving is still in progress or may be never
started (officially).

Here I want to ask somebody from Canonical to assign this bug! So, final
solution (official) to be available soon (on regular bionic-update).

2018-10-28 Thread arQon
given the link quality observations in #11 and the behavior in #12, it's
pretty clear that the problem is with the radio power management.

since it isn't improved at all via any of the PM settings, that suggests
it's simply broken rather than overly-aggressive.

for reference, the head for the last good version of the driver is

Please uninstall wine1.8 and similar packages like wine1.8-amd64 and
wine1.8-i386. This should fix your issues.

These packages were never part of the Ubuntu archives, and the Wine
packaging doesn't handle conflicts with 3rd-party repositories.

I assume you had them installed once from the “Ubuntu Wine Team”-ppa,
which is deprecated anyway. So you should also remove this PPA from your

[Bug 1773703] Re: wine-stable installs wine64 on 32-bit System

2018-10-28 Thread jre
Hi Ulf,

sorry for the late answer. You've got an uncommon setup, not sure if it
is "valid" because I'd expect a foreign-architecture on a system to just
work.

I'm not totally sure if wineserver64 (a 64-bit program) not running on a
32-bit system with "some" 64-bit parts is a bug. Maybe this depends on
the specifics of your system, but I'd say not-a-bug.

The issue of a broken system (bug 1648278), or your original problem,
needs fixing, but I don't think we should workaround this in any way in
the Wine packaging. The Wine packaging defaults to support "everything"
if available. If you've got both 32- and 64-bit enabled the default is
to support both, which works perfectly on usual (non-broken) systems.
If you want another setup you can just uninstall e.g. wine32 or wine64,
since they are only recommended by wine.

Finally AFAIK there is no possibility to handle foreign architecture
separately in the packaging. The best fix to get a pure 32-bit Wine
installation might be to make "wine" an architecture-dependent package
(arch:any) instead of arch:all, but I don't really see the need to do
so.

Therefore I'm tagging this report as "opinion".

[Bug 1800292] Re: [Logitech G403 Prodigy Gaming Mouse] Mouse click every 1-2 minutes

2018-10-28 Thread Rodrigo Melotto
Update:

Hello Cristian,
So I havent changed anything, im watching Youtube all day long today and the
autoclicks just stopped.
Since it was happening nonstop yesterday but today it didnt had one single
"auto" click I think its over.
Lets wait for one more day and I think it can be closed.

*Just to stress that I didnt do anything to mouse/touchpad/video drivers.
Yesterday before I open this topic I've shutdown my note and turn it on again
but the autoclicks persisted.
I turned of my note the whole night.
I dont use any macro of any kind, be it mouse, keyboard or whatever.
Its weird.

[Bug 1685442] Re: Errors: flip_done timed out during boot-up; slow boot

2018-10-28 Thread Damian Campbell
Thanks @Ryan for the post. I'm not sure in this case that a bisection would be
the most effective cure. There must be many many legacy Dell and other machines
that are affected but we never know because people give up on the install. I
think the suggestion (see somewhere above) of defaulting to having the
workaround "Video=SVIDEO-1:d" enabled by default would be much more useful. The
probable minority of users who do need to use SVIDEO could be dealt with
through release note information and pointed to a legacy driver.

As an enthusiastic and fervent champion of Ubuntu I cannot emphasize
enough the negatives a fraught install/upgrade process for non-IT users
inflicts upon the reputation of the project. Far better to have a few
non-working features than to alienate a whole section of users with
legacy machines. After all, is Ubuntu not supposed to be "Great for use
with legacy machines."?? My experience rendered a working system on
16.04 LTS totally unusable by the automatic upgrade to 18.04 LTS. I am
surely not alone!!!??

[Bug 1782510] Re: lightdm automatically logs in after logout

2018-10-28 Thread bastafidli
This defect may not be in lightdm package. I was just able to reproduce
it on Ubuntu 18.04.01 distribution. Here is how I did it.

I am using 18.04.01 with KDE.
I installed the skypeforlinux package
This package had unsatisfied dependency gnome-keyring as without it skype will
not log in automatically.
I installed gnome-keyring and seahorse so that I can reset the keyring.
After these three I wasn't able to logout from my KDE session as I was logged
back in.
It didn't help to uninstall skypeforlinux or seahorse.
Only after I uninstalled gnome-keyring and restarted my computer I am able to
normally logout from my KDE session.

On a side node now even after I log out, I can still see my session hanging
around using
sudo loginctl
If I log in it till create second session as reported by the above command but
at least I can logout reliably.
