[Bug 1772905] Re: blt::RemoveBindTag not found
I tested the package tkblt-3.2.7-1ubuntu1 as updated from bionic- proposes. All tests were successfull: * loading tkblt within wish as stated in the original bug description * testing saods9 as described above, and additionally did some random usage of saods9 using the graphics widgets that require tkblt Therefore, I am setting the tag to verification-done-bionic. After that it fails again. The USB cable is not a problem, as it worked with 16.10. I downloaded VueScan and it has not problems to repeatedly scan pages using the same hw, which also indicates that this is a sw and not a hw problem. And just to mention it again, printing also works fine using the same cable. And yes, I tried multiple USB ports. All exhibit the same behaviour. When I execute scanimage -L once and start VueScan afterwards, then VueScan also doesn't see the scanner anymore. After unplugging and replugging the UBS cable and restarting VueScan, it's able to scan again. Looks to me like sane doesn't know how to talk to the scanner anymore. It seems that something get's messed up during the first usb command, which prevents subsequent usb commands from succeeding. I just downloaded 16.04.3 LTS and booted it from a USB stick. I can confirm that the scanner still works with 16.04. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: sane-utils 1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.

[Bug 1788547] Re: gnome-shell notifications use Yaru theme even if Yaru is not selected
Actually, I think the issue is more that there are no gnome-shell theme options shipping with Ubuntu. You shouldn't need to install user themes in order to get a consistent experience, and setting up a consistent theme appears to be quite hard for the average user in 18.10. One easy solution (for example) would be to ship the gnome-shell theme from 18.04 (as, say, Adwaita) so you could apply it with gnome-tweaks- tool to the shell. [Bug 1666264] Re: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48
Hi everyone, I don't know which is the right place to post this, but the discussion here seems to be the most appropriate for bringing this up. I looked more into the tilix warnings. After all, the warnings seem to be caused by the vte lib and especially in the reverted parts. Therefore, I downloaded the source with apt-get source libvte-2.91-0 and printed the arguments of line 1906 which triggers the warnings. #include (at the top of the file) printf("arguments: %d %d %d\n", g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex), G_REGEX_MULTILINE, g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE); So I started tilix and looked at the output: arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed arguments: 1 2 0 (tilix:5596): Vte-WARNING **: 10:32:57.957: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1905):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE) warning should be printed As you can see both arguments itself are true. But why is a "bitwise and" used in g_warn_if_fail()? Since the first is 1 and the second 2, this causes 0010 & 0001 -> and the warning is triggered? So what I did and propose is to replace the "bitwise and" with a "logical or". This causes that the warning is only triggered if one of both arguments is false. -> The tilix warning is gone and everything seems work for me! This line is created by the ubuntu specific patch "revert-pcre2.patch" and in this file in line 1065 Just for letting you know which part of tilix calls this function: In the constructor in the file terminal.d the function applyPreferences() is called. There in the switch statement the case SETTINGS_ALL_CUSTOM_HYPERLINK_KEY is calling loadRegex() which calls the vte function vte_terminal_match_add_gregex 6 times and triggers the 6 warnings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666264 Title: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1666264/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1783957] Re: Nouveau crashes at login with Kernel 4.15.0-29 on MacBook Air, so no login screen in a normal sequence
Yes. The latest v4.14 also works great !!! I have nouveau drivers loaded and working perfectly. In fact, I am running it now: "4.14.0-041400-generic" and I shall stay on this kernel (the latest kernel which works decently for me). But the first kernel of the 4.15 series does not work anymore. So, the problem lies between last kernel of 4.14 and first kernel of 4.15. I will stay on this kernel, for now: "4.14.0-041400-generic" , until the problem gets solved. And further more, as I tested the 4.18 and did not work, I can only conclude that the problem evolves right up to v4.18 if not beyond -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1783957 Title: Nouveau crashes at login with Kernel 4.15.0-29 on MacBook Air, so no login screen in a normal sequence To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1783957/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Bug filed against debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=907676. But it looks like tests are passing in debian's CI: https://ci.debian.net/packages/l/lloconv/unstable/amd64/ Except for one test run on 2018-08-24 03:42:33 UTC (https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/unstable/amd64/l/lloconv/872144/log.gz). Based on Christians realization, that your hypervisor may have been 16.4 all along, and on the qemu version you stated, I managed to reproduce the bug with upstream tag v2.5.0. From there I bisected to commit e32652f7594 "virtio-ccw: respond to READ_STATUS command" (which seems to fix the problem). I still have to figure out the whys tough. [Bug 1789943] Re: Ubuntu Software only shows snap app's without any explanations or advices
There are definitely rough edges in some snap apps as they are today, but many others work just fine out of the box, and an end-user shouldn't have to know what a snap is in the first place, much like regular end- users today don't know what a debian package is. The rough edges have to be polished and bugs addressed, but this shouldn't hold back from offering/promoting snaps in Ubuntu Software. On top of additional security, snaps are very much about empowering upstream developers/editors to control exactly which version of their software will be delivered to users. ** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1789943 Title: Ubuntu Software only shows snap app's without any explanations or advices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1789943/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1790108] [NEW] Activating pam_kwallet5.so in lightdm pam configuration restarts user sessions
Public bug reported: Hello, I had a problem with lightdm: After logging out from a user session, the login screen did not appear again, but instead the session restarted automatically. This happened several times one after another, until finally the third or fourth logout attempts was successful. While investigating this, I discovered a difference from another computer with the same lightdm upstream version, but without the problem: On the Ubuntu machine, lightdm had one child process owned by root and two child processes owned by the logged-in user, while on the other machine lightdm had only the child process owned by root. Result of my investigation was: All this could be solved by either commenting out the pam_kwallet5.so module from /etc/pam.d/lightdm or downgrading libpam-kwallet5 from 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1.3 to 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1. I am using Ubuntu version 18.04 and lightm version 1.26.0-0ubuntu1. [Bug 1790112] [NEW] mount fails to act on changing directories
Public bug reported: I have a setup with two remote directories mounted as subfolders of my home directory at boot. Works fine. Once a network link goes down, however, even a terminal does not return any command. e.g. opening a terminal ('Konsole'), and I do any command (like 'ls'), this simply stucks forever. It has nothing to do with Konsole, because the same behaviour applies for e.g. kdialog, so when I want to save a file from the web-browser, Home is inaccessible (just white space). My best workaround is a reboot, because I can't issue a 'mount -a' due to the lack of terminal responsiveness. I think that's not really a bug, though a major hindrance. I didn't give a package, because I don't know which that package should be: mount works, kdialog and Konsole work. However, a lost mount state seems to connect all input and output to /dev/null. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1790112 Title: mount fails to act on changing directories To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1790112/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1666264] Re: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48
> As you can see both arguments itself are true. The first two arguments you printed are bitmasks, it doesn't make sense to directly interpret them as boolean. > But why is a "bitwise and" used in g_warn_if_fail()? Because that's what it wants to do: warn if the MULTILINE flag isn't set, regardless of the other flags. > So what I did and propose is to replace the "bitwise and" with a "logical or". This is semantically absolutely incorrect. The second argument is a nonzero constant, logically OR-ing would always give logical TRUE, hence the "warn if fail" not executed. You could just as well remove the entire line, that'd be okay. --- Let's take one step back. Comment #17 says "This is still breaking tilix functionality and polluting the logs" but the tilix bug linked from #19 only talks about the warnings. [Bug 1720213] Re: Word moving with left-arrow-ctrl broken in wayland
It's indeed an opinion, but my one matches Merlijn's (Merlijn, I'd appreciate if you opened a bug according to Daniel's suggestion (does it really belong to mutter, rather than some more core wayland component?)). In most software, Ctrl+Arrow walk the cursor faster than the modifier- less Arrow key. I might press and hold the arrow key, and then realize it's going to take a bit too long and want make it faster. It's an obvious an intuitive reaction to press Ctrl as well, or the other way around, to release Ctrl but leave the Arrow pressed when I'm about to reach my destination and want to slow down. This is pretty similar to how typically holding the Shift speeds up walking in many games - you won't find a game where you have to stop walking for a sec do to this. The new behavior is not just counterintuitive, but if one gets used to it then also still slower than the old one. Even when someone is fully used to this new behavior, having to release the Arrow and press it again later is a loss of time, partially because of the speed of our fingers, and partially beucase the repetition delay between the first and second emitted keystroke has to elapse again. This is the kind of usability issue that can easily frequently increase the user's frustration level, by a tiny little bit every time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720213 Title: Word moving with left-arrow-ctrl broken in wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1720213/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1789719] Re: severe performance issue after intel-microcode update
Basically, *you* need to know if: 1. your workload does a LOT of syscalls (kernel entries from userspace) OR 2. your workload does a LOT of VMEXITs (runs on a VM) OR 3. uses Intel SGX (you're on your own in that case, go talk to Intel). Which are directly impacted by the microcode and/or kernel changes. You can also selectively disable KPTI/PTI, L1D flushes (L1TF mitigation), and SSBD mitigation to track down which is not compatible with your workload. That *might* give enough hints on how to change your workload to not suffer as much. https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/l1tf.html and also https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.html ( read the documentation for the parameters pti=, spectre_v2=, spec_store_bypass_disable= ) You can disable kernel microcode updating (which will revert to the microcode in your BIOS/UEFI) using the dis_ucode_ldr parameter on the *bootloader* (grub, etc). Instructions are in intel-microcode's README file in /usr/share/doc/intel-microcode You can just install an older version of the intel-microcode package and reboot, if you want to switch to an earlier microcode update **provided that your system firmware (BIOS/UEFI) does not have a newer microcode**. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1789719 Title: severe performance issue after intel-microcode update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode/+bug/1789719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
