[Bug 1783476] Re: package php-tcpdf 6.2.13+dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1779063] Re: Occasional kernel panic on shutdown in ext4 code (dquot_drop)
It seems one of the RAM modules in that machine degraded over time - while memtest86 found no problems in the past, now errors are discovered within seconds. It's unclear when the module became faulty, but it's quite plausible that the observed kernel panics were caused by this and that there's no actual software bug involved. I'll replace the system RAM and revert back to the normal Ubuntu kernel. I think this issue can be closed - if the same symptoms reassert themselves, things can be revisited. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779063 Title: Occasional kernel panic on shutdown in ext4 code (dquot_drop) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1779063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay found out the issue, its with the format of the proxy settings as Fred mentioned.. Thank you Fred. May be, we have to fix this in longer run, the installer "should not allow/ should warn" the user to proceed with wrong proxy format. Re: [Bug 1782888] Re: trackpad not recognised by kernel
Thanks Joseph. I have tried to do as you suggest, but hit a problem installing 4.18.0-041800rc6. Two of the downloads install, but the third fails and my Linux skills are insufficient to work out what to do next. If you are able to make a suggestion I'm happy to have another go. If so, here is what I know: The first thing to check is that the packages I attempted to install were the correct ones: linux-headers-4.18.0-041800rc6_4.18.0-041800rc6.201807221830_all.deb linux-headers-4.18.0-041800rc6-generic_4.18.0-041800rc6.201807221830_amd64.deb linux-modules-4.18.0-041800rc6-generic_4.18.0-041800rc6.201807221830_amd64.deb One of the headers failed to install, with an error message implicating Nvidia, see make.log from /var/dkms/nvidia/390.48/build/ attached. A summary of the /boot folder is attached (grub18.txt) showing what has installed. You can also see that the kernels currently being provided by Linux Mint (LM) are a good deal earlier eg 4.15.0-29. Also of relevance might be two sections of the Mint 19 release notes, about trackpads and about freezes on booting due, in the case of this box, to the Nvidia graphics card: https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_tara_cinnamon.php Once the first LM installation is done, when LM release new kernels the Nvidia issue does not occur. This is a live system used eg to maintain my PERL server-side website applications, so I need to take some care. What should I try next?
