[Bug 1774150] Re: 3.13.0-149-generic: suspend/resume issue on 14.04

2018-06-28 Thread spacefight
Thanks Bruno. I now hesitate to downgrade the microcode - since in there
are some new CPU design flaw mitigations if I remember correctly.

[Bug 1779063] [NEW] Occasional kernel panic on shutdown in ext4 code (dquot_drop)

2018-06-28 Thread Maik Merten via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Occasionally (about once every three weeks) my machine experiences a
kernel panic somewhere in the ext4 code on shutdown (and only on
shutdown).

Ubuntu Version: 18.04, x86-64

Platform: AMD Ryzen R7 2700 on an Asrock AB350M-Pro4 mainboard.

I attached two photos of the panic messages, one occurring on May 16th,
the other on June 26th. The call trace is identical in both.

Given how similar the messages are, I don't think this is an
intermittent machine-related glitch. As of yet, however, I could not
identify a pattern on when the issue occurs.

Kernel versions:
 - May 16th: 4.15.0-20-generic
 - June 26th: 4.15.0-23-generic

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

This looks good in overall, I'm just a bit wondering about the test
result in #21. The apt policy openipmi there shows that no openipmi is
installed (see Installed: (none)) - but the service was still available?
Is that just some copy-paste error?

[Bug 1779063] Re: Occasional kernel panic on shutdown in ext4 code (dquot_drop)

2018-06-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1779063/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1778547] Re: Broken system lock counting

2018-06-28 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Sorry, few typos in the script

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  System lock unrefing is broken, off-by-one error. Locking twice opens a
second fd for the lock file, and the old fd gets lost and remains open for the
remaining duration of the program

  [Test case]

  Executing the following script should show one lock file in the first
  line, and none in the last line.

  def maybe_readlink(path):
-   try:
- return os.readlink("/proc/self/fd/" + p)
-   except:
- return ""
+   try:
+ return os.readlink(path)
+   except:
+ return ""

  import os, apt_pkg
  apt_pkg.init()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_lock()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_lock()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_unlock()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_unlock()
  print([(p, maybe_readlink("/proc/self/fd/" + p)) for p in
os.listdir("/proc/self/fd")])
-

  [Test output]
  good, cosmic:
  [('0', '/dev/pts/2'), ('1', '/dev/pts/2'), ('2', '/dev/pts/2'), ('3',
'/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('4', '')]
  [('0', '/dev/pts/2'), ('1', '/dev/pts/2'), ('2', '/dev/pts/2'), ('3',
'')]

  bad, bionic:
  [('0', '/dev/pts/0'), ('1', '/dev/pts/0'), ('2', '/dev/pts/0'), ('3',
'pipe:[40889331]'), ('4', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('5', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'),
('6', ''), ('17', 'socket:[53931]')]
  [('0', '/dev/pts/0'), ('1', '/dev/pts/0'), ('2', '/dev/pts/0'), ('3',
'pipe:[40889331]'), ('4', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('5', ''), ('17',
'socket:[53931]')]

-
  [Regression potential]
  A locking change can potentially break locking, but this one seems like an
obvious off-by-one error.

  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_lock()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_lock()
+ print([(p, maybe_readlink("/proc/self/fd/" + p)) for p in
os.listdir("/proc/self/fd")])
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_unlock()
  apt_pkg.pkgsystem_unlock()
  print([(p, maybe_readlink("/proc/self/fd/" + p)) for p in
os.listdir("/proc/self/fd")])

  [Test output]
  good, cosmic:
  [('0', '/dev/pts/2'), ('1', '/dev/pts/2'), ('2', '/dev/pts/2'), ('3',
'/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('4', '')]
  [('0', '/dev/pts/2'), ('1', '/dev/pts/2'), ('2', '/dev/pts/2'), ('3',
'')]

  bad, bionic:
  [('0', '/dev/pts/0'), ('1', '/dev/pts/0'), ('2', '/dev/pts/0'), ('3',
'pipe:[40889331]'), ('4', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('5', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'),
('6', ''), ('17', 'socket:[53931]')]
  [('0', '/dev/pts/0'), ('1', '/dev/pts/0'), ('2', '/dev/pts/0'), ('3',
'pipe:[40889331]'), ('4', '/var/lib/dpkg/lock'), ('5', ''), ('17',
'socket:[53931]')]

  [Regression potential]
  A locking change can potentially break locking, but this one seems like an
obvious off-by-one error.

[Bug 1778968] Re: Amavisd-new-2.11 breaks originating

2018-06-28 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

It wouldn't be appropriate to blindly land a patch without first understanding
what exactly we're fixing, how the problem was resolved upstream, and so forth.

So please could you turn this into a full bug report, with steps to
reproduce, an explanation of the problem, etc, as well as just the
patch?

I don't see any reference to the patch having been applied upstream, nor
even any reply to the thread that you linked. Did upstream resolve the
problem? Can you point to upstream landing a fix?

Once answers to these questions are available in this bug, please set
the bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1777099] Re: [backport] DRM devices opened by logind stay referenced indefinitely by PID 1

2018-06-28 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov 🌈
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * It should be possible to change DRM driver without rebooting.
+ * It should be possible to correctly suspend & resume, whilst preserving
driver state.
+ * This bug is for userspace/logind fixes, required to get above working.

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/5775b843a619b3c93f946e2b55a208d9f0f48b59
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Test and verify that on machines with Nvidia discrete graphics, one
+ can change performance/power-saving modes without rebooting.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * There are changes to the fd handling that are passed to logind. At
+ worst, fd to the NVIDIA driver will still be held, and thus one would
+ continue to not be able to switch graphics modes without rebooting.

[Bug 1717276] Re: crash frequently

2018-06-28 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version.

When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated
logs by running only once:

apport-collect 1727276

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
