The "Software" mentioned in the "Ready to go" tab will link to the
"Ubuntu Software".

Maybe this string should be changed to "Ubuntu Software" instead.

[Bug 1767283] [NEW] nc doesn't support "-s IP" option

2018-04-27 Thread Stefan Schwarz
Public bug reported:

Hey,

netcat shows a usage error if i try to use the "-t" option:

Example in Bionic:

$ netcat -s 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 22 < /dev/null
usage: nc [-46CDdFhklNnrStUuvZz] [-I length] [-i interval] [-M ttl]
  [-m minttl] [-O length] [-P proxy_username] [-p source_port]
  [-q seconds] [-s source] [-T keyword] [-V rtable] [-W recvlimit] [-w
timeout]
  [-X proxy_protocol] [-x proxy_address[:port]]   [destination]

Example in Xenial:

netcat -s 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 22 < /dev/null
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_7.2p2 Ubuntu-4ubuntu2.4

Manpage shows that the option is still availible and should work. Both systems
use openbsd netcat.

[Bug 1767186] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.22-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting a removal

Hi,
I can't find much more on your error in the logs than the error message.
Usually it is good to follow a guide like [1] (but adapted to your package
being mysql-server-5.7) in such cases.

If that still fails you please report the full terminal output you got
while doing so here.

2018-04-27 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Bikash,
unfortunately all I can grab from your logs so far about the issue is:
  installed samba-common package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 10

A friend of mine went into some effort on bug 1747619 to debug.
Please find the requests for more data there and report the same here.

If your apt is similarly broken that would be odd.
So I'd hope we get some better debug on the case by you reporting the data that
was asked on bug 1747619.

Setting incomplete until we get the data back.

2018-04-27 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
To shorten this, next steps:

I would ask you to first try it again like this:

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt -f install

And please report the full console output you get.
If that still fails, we can investigate debugging options.

If the above fails add "set -x" as second line to
/var/lib/dpkg/info/samba-common.postinst
Then run:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure samba-common
And report that full console log as well.

Hmm, having resigned to building my own kernels for the foreseeable

It looks like someone has tried to incorporate the patch of interest. I
find:

if (pdev->vendor == PCI_VENDOR_ID_RENESAS &&
pdev->device == 0x0014)
xhci->quirks |= XHCI_TRUST_TX_LENGTH;
if (pdev->vendor == PCI_VENDOR_ID_RENESAS &&
pdev->device == 0x0015)
xhci->quirks |= XHCI_RESET_ON_RESUME;

So I recompiled as-is, though common sense suggested I was already
running the exact same (bionic) kernel.

The build seemed to succeed but the errors in dmesg persist.

Could the 14 in:

pdev->device == 0x0014)

.. represent a typo?

I guess I'll change that tonight and try recompiling.

[Bug 1767085] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.22-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: podproces zainstalowany skrypt post-installation zwrócił kod błędu 1

2018-04-27 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Fi,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays
unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but
since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting
the service will work.

and it failed here, you should now edit innodb_data_file_path in my.cnf back to

precious data!
2018-04-26T08:23:00.237909Z 0 [ERROR] InnoDB: Plugin initialization aborted

So in your case the restart after upgrade fails, due to these issues.
That might indicate the DB wasn't shut down cleanly and the lock still is on
the file OR that another mysql service is running at the same time having it
already locked.

If you have no resonable data in your mysql anyway the quickest might
just to reinstall it like [1]. Otherwise you might want to look which
process has the file open and resolve that as in [2]

Setting to incomplete as it appears to be more a misconfig or support
request than a bug in ubuntu for now, but I'll subscribe myself to see
what you find following the above.

[Bug 1767065] Re: pulseaudio+bluetooth crash causing user to be logged out

2018-04-27 Thread Andrei Hornoiu
Another update. After truning off pulseaudio yesterday, the system
didn't crash as fast as before, but it did eventually lock up a couple
of times. The logs seems similar even without pulse, still beginning
with the bluetooth service.

After this I completely turned off bluetooth from the BIOS of the
machine. This seemed to have solved the issue until a few moments ago
when the bluetoothservice tried to start something again. I have now
disabled the bluetooth service. I hope it doesn't do anything more.

Here's how the system locks-up now:

Apr 27 09:37:26 ESS-PC26 dbus[1187]: [system] Failed to activate service
'org.bluez': timed out
Apr 27 09:37:26 ESS-PC26 pulseaudio[2214]: [pulseaudio] bluez5-util.c:
GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Failed to
activate service 'org.bluez': timed out
Apr 27 09:37:26 ESS-PC26 pulseaudio[1521]: [pulseaudio] bluez5-util.c:
GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Failed to
activate service 'org.bluez': timed out

The system freezes for multiple seconds then recovers.

I've now run apport-collect and authorized it for one week. Hope this
helps.

** Description changed:

  Hello,

  I'm a sysadmin and have gotten multiple reports recently from users of
  them randomly getting logged out of their machines. From what I can tell
  from the journalctl printout this appears immediately after either
  bluetoothd or pulsaudio crashes.

  This is happening multiple time each day for each user. It doesn't
  happen to all users, but the reports seem to be getting more frequent by
  the day. From what I have noticed there recently was an update for
  pulseaudio and its bluetooth integration.

  Here is the journalctl printout:
  Apr 25 10:50:53 ESS-PC26 bluetoothd[1168]: Endpoint registered: sender=:1.219

running.

can't be made
  Apr 25 10:51:00 ESS-PC26 lightdm[7915]: pam_unix(lightdm-greeter:session):

  We are running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the latest updated.

  EDIT: Worth mentioning, this error happens with both Unity and Gnome as
desktop environments.

Looks like this config option is the cause.
I also noticed that it was enabled in Xenial KVM, which explains why it passed
with it.

If you think this config should be enabled for Bionic KVM as well, I will send
to patch to the mailing list.
Thanks

[Bug 1767294] [NEW] Files are created in the /target/run directory

2018-04-27 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

After just installing Ubuntu 18.04, I have some files in the underlying file
system under the tmpfs /run mount:
# mount --bind / /mnt
# ls /mnt
dnsmasq   hplip  mount samba  utmp
do-not-hibernate  lock   reboot-required   speech-dispatcher
firefox-restart-required  lvmreboot-required.pkgs  systemd

I assume that Ubiquity doesn't run `mount --bind /run /target/run`, and
so files are saved in /target/run during some of the `chroot` commands
it runs.

This might be an old bug that hasn't been noticed previously.

[Bug 1767283] Re: nc doesn't support "-s IP" option

2018-04-27 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
In gdb I see it gets to read -s

case 's':
sflag = optarg;
break;

It realizes no more options are there and then ends at
} else if (argv[0] && argv[1]) {
host = argv[0];
uport = &argv[1];
if (pflag || sflag)
usage(1);

And sflag is set, so it reports usage and exits.
The particular check in this path of pflag/sflag didn't exist back then.

I found this comes in via a patch
  debian/patches/misc-failures-and-features.patch
That was in Debian and Ubuntu since late 2016

This patch was modified by:
commit 2ebffb014c830e49f6fad600c59cc1b82fe356a4
Author: Guilhem Moulin
Date:   Sun Dec 3 22:58:11 2017 +0100

Allow usage of -s with -l for consistency with netcat-traditional.

Since then this is also in Debian.

I'm not an expert on netcat but I hope this initial triage helps the

I reported to Debian as well as they are also affected.
Especially since the change came from Guilhem - it might be best to think about
a solution together.

That is intentional. The Settings app might get a Problem Reporting

[Bug 1767302] [NEW] User is not added to kvm group when installing gnome-boxes

2018-04-27 Thread Johon Doee
Public bug reported:

Installing gnome-boxes does not add the user to the needed kvm group.
This leads to the problem that it is impossible to start any system within
gnome-boxes.

on x86_64 host is not supported by hypervisor

adduser kvm solves that problem but how should an average
user know that. Gnome-Boxes is not usable as of now.

[Bug 1766046] Re: dpkg-deb error processing libc6_2.27, libzstd.so.1 is missing

2018-04-27 Thread Julian Andres Klode
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1764858 ***

No, as mentioned before in the main bug, please reinstall from scratch.
This issue is the result of the installer crashing, in all cases we've
seen, when trying to install the bootloader, because an ESP partition is
missing. Therefore, the system is in a vastly inconsistent state and
needs to be reinstalled cleanly.

[Bug 1746740] Re: XPS13 L322X Bionic (daily dev) touchpad laggy

2018-04-27 Thread seanlano
Damn, just missed out. :/ Thanks Daniel. :)

Looks like there's only very minor changes in 1.10.5, so judging by the
criteria for SRU it shouldn't be too hard. I'll get onto a bug report
for that at some point, it at least can (hopefully) make it into the
18.04.2 release Live CD. Will be a bit of a pain in the meantime.

[Bug 1767294] Re: Files are created in the /target/run directory

2018-04-27 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
** Description changed:

  After just installing Ubuntu 18.04, I have some files in the underlying file
system under the tmpfs /run mount:
  # mount --bind / /mnt
- # ls /mnt
+ # ls /mnt/run
  dnsmasq   hplip  mount samba  utmp
  do-not-hibernate  lock   reboot-required   speech-dispatcher
  firefox-restart-required  lvmreboot-required.pkgs  systemd

  I assume that Ubiquity doesn't run `mount --bind /run /target/run`, and
  so files are saved in /target/run during some of the `chroot` commands
  it runs.

  This might be an old bug that hasn't been noticed previously.

[Bug 1751098] Re: Ubuntu hangs shortly after booting with kernel 4.13.0-36

2018-04-27 Thread Marty Pitt
Hi

I'm having similar symptons to the original issue after upgrading from
17.10 -> 18.04

Specifically:

I'm able to boot past GRUB and login.
Shortly after login the UI becomes unresponsive
Then the mouse freezes
Then completely dead.

My laptop is similar to the original post: Dell XPS 15
As this feels slightly in the realm of graphics, I'm ising the inbuilt Intel
graphics, not the nvidia GPU.

Similar to the original post, the fallback kernel works for me, though the
versions differ from the original.

Problem occurs on 4.15.0-20-generic
Using 4.13.0-39-generic seems to work.

Please let me know what other information I can provide to assist.

@Nicolas: How did you get past this?

Thx

[Bug 1767223] Re: multilib selects wrong start files

2018-04-27 Thread Ed
Note: I do not think it is an upstream problem, since I downloaded gcc-
arm-none-eabi-6-2017-q2-update from ARM which contains a very similar
version (both 6.3.1 20170620) and it does not exhibit the issue.
