[Bug 1756807] [NEW] performance regression in qemu-user + proot
Public bug reported: To reproduce: 1. Install qemu-user-static and proot 2. Enter some arm chroot using them: proot -0 -q qemu-arm-static -w / -r chroot/ /bin/bash 3. Run a command which normally takes a short but measurable amount of time: cd /usr/share/doc && time grep -R hello Result: This is over 100 times slower on 18.04 than it was on 16.04. I am not sure if proot or qemu is causing the problem, but proot version has not changed. Also note that on 16.04 I am using the cloud repo version of qemu, which is newer than 16.04 stock, but still older than 18.04. Although system 2 is lower spec than system 1, it should not be this much slower. No other software seems to be affected. If required I can supply a chroot tarball. [Bug 1756394] Re: Upgrading libvirt from 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 to 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 introduced a permission denied on device error
Hi Deltik (dupped onto this), Sebastian and Ultrabit. I checked this case a bit deeper and I no more think it is a dup, it really might be a new issue. You are not using zfs/lvm pools, but just "lvm/zfs disks" which is fine and should work. Lets work together to resolve the issue soon. We have the following data right now: Two cases: lvm / zfs For both we know that they partially work with symlinks in devfs. For the ZFS Case we have an example: apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" name="/dev/zd80" Leads to: Could not open '/dev/zvol/rpool/demo-vm': Permission denied And /dev/zvol/rpool/demo-vm` is a symbolic link to `/dev/zd80 I very much assume that the LVM case is very much the same (they share a lot of code and it seems an odd incident that it hits on the same update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756394 Title: Upgrading libvirt from 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 to 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 introduced a permission denied on device error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1756394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1756394] Re: Upgrading libvirt from 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 to 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 introduced a permission denied on device error
BTW: some of you asked for the per-guest profiles in /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt Those are still created, just instead of an unreliable cron job to clean them "every now and then" they are now removed once the guest reaches its EOL. So after a shutdown or crash it is normal that it is gone. For debugging in case of a dying guest, you can still get the output via the following: 1. get an xml of your guest (I assume it is in shutdown state) $ virsh dumpxml /tmp/test.xml 2. get the UUID of the guest $ virsh dominfo | grep UUID 3. let virt-aa-helper run against this xml and check what it is generating $ /usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper -u libvirt- -r --dryrun < /tmp/test.xml That looks something like this then: $ /usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper -u libvirt-488cf3a8-c765-4418-8e47-7f9aa622ff40 -r --dryrun < /tmp/test.xml virt-aa-helper: /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-488cf3a8-c765-4418-8e47-7f9aa622ff40.files virt-aa-helper: "/var/log/libvirt/**/subiquity-test.log" w, "/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain-subiquity-test/monitor.sock" rw, "/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain--1-subiquity-test/*" rw, "/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/channel/target/domain--1-subiquity-test/*" rw, "/var/run/libvirt/**/subiquity-test.pid" rwk, "/run/libvirt/**/subiquity-test.pid" rwk, "/var/run/libvirt/**/*.tunnelmigrate.dest.subiquity-test" rw, "/run/libvirt/**/*.tunnelmigrate.dest.subiquity-test" rw, "/var/lib/libvirt/images/subiquity-test.qcow2" rwk, I'd ask all of you in the affected cases to report the following so that I can reproduce, debug and code a fix. 1. your disk setup (how you set up your lvm / zfs so that I can build something comparable) 2. you guest XML (I want to recreate your case, so your raw virsh dumpxml will help me a lot) 3. the output of virt-aa-helper as I outlined above, if possible one of 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 and one of 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 so that we can check all differences 4. the dmesg output when you fail-start a guest with the new version to see the associated apparmor denie In said update of libvirt that you are referring to there is one (and only one) change in the area that should be responsible. We fixed that symlinks are resolved before going into the per-guest rules. In theory that should always be correct - as apparmor in the kernel resolves symlinks before comparing them against the rules - but maybe we found a case where this isn't fully true. [Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update
@Chituc #92 : don't think I can provide about:buildconfig from 57.x , because they segfault. If you need please let me know how to downgrade to (4.0.0-1ubuntu4), because i cannot find that version on the launchpad (it seems to be deleted from distro) and i have not in my cache. [Bug 1756394] Re: Upgrading libvirt from 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 to 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 introduced a permission denied on device error
Tried to recreate this while waiting on input: # Get ZFS Device $ sudo zpool create zfsmirrortest mirror /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 $ sudo zfs create -V 10G zfsmirrortest/vol1 # That gives me: /dev/zvol/zfsmirrortest/vol1 -> ../../zd0 # Get LVM Device $ sudo pvcreate /dev/sda2 $ sudo pvcreate /dev/sdb2 $ sudo vgcreate testlvm /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2 $ sudo lvcreate -n testvol1 -L 5g testlvm # That gives me /dev/mapper/testlvm-testvol1 -> ../dm-0 We knoow that pools are broken with apparmor (which made me think this is a dup to a known feature request bug at first), but lets use these devices as direct block devices. That means: I see for ZFS: Output: Could not open '/dev/zvol/zfsmirrortest/vol1': Permission denied Dmesg: apparmor="DENIED" ... name="/dev/zd0" I see for LVM: Could not open '/dev/mapper/testlvm-testvol1': Permission denied Dmesg: apparmor="DENIED" ... name="/dev/dm-0" For both I get unresolved rules with the latest libvirt: $ /usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper -u libvirt-62298b25-ae68-408a-87be-835677d46c89 -r --dryrun < /tmp/test.xml [...] "/dev/zvol/zfsmirrortest/vol1" rwk, "/dev/mapper/testlvm-testvol1" rwk, Well I know why this breaks, this is just what the mentioned change should avoid. Mabye there is an interaction how zfs/lvm are added and the fix that inverts it for those? Further you don't need to fully install test versions for this. I picked a .deb of an older build extracted with dpkg -x and then ran directly against this virt-aa-helper. I got the expected: "/dev/zd0" rwk, "/dev/dm-0" rwk, On the good side, I can recreate the issue and go on my own. Never the less for completeness the data as asked comment #10 can still help to find if you really face "the same". ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756394 Title: Upgrading libvirt from 4.0.0-1ubuntu4 to 4.0.0-1ubuntu5 introduced a permission denied on device error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1756394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1756815] [NEW] (18.04 only) dell keyboard backlight timeout is wrong / ignoring default 10s to be 0s
Public bug reported: I'm using a dell E7440 laptop with a backlit keyboard, and the keyboard backlight fades out apparently the millisecond you hit a key, where it should behave like you hit a key and it stays lit for some time. This worked in 16.04 on this laptop as of a few days ago, and now that I've installed 18.04, it seems to no longer function. it is in fact set to 10s by default in /sys/devices/platform/dell- laptop/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/stop_timeout however that is apparently being ignored -- if you change that file then it starts working. That's sort of a workaround resolution, but it should work by default. not a hugely important bug, but might save someone time and annoyance in the future, so im reporting it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756815 Title: (18.04 only) dell keyboard backlight timeout is wrong / ignoring default 10s to be 0s To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1756815/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1755144] Re: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files
I thought that I'd just mention another bug 1753385 (for Sound Converter) now as I didn't think that it was relevant to this bug until now. Sound Converter (which I use occasionally, mostly for converting wav files to mp3 files) stopped working on this barebones PC approx a week ago. In fact I wrote asheel script to do what I wanted it to do. So I didn't check it on my other barebones PC until just now: it works on that PC. [Bug 1736116] Re: [SRU] Host with kernel 4.13 freezes when starting a VM with VirtualBox
There is no shortage of manpower in the ubuntu-sru team. As per the Stable Release Update policy [1], every update needs to age in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days before being considered for promotion. Since these packages have not been driven by the security team we are handling this update in the same way as the others - especially that the initial upload already had regressions that had to be fixed with re-uploads. There's just a few more days left. We're dealing with a lot of similar-sounding bugs so it would be inappropriate to declare two separate machines as having the same bug right now. Many different bugs have the same symptoms. [Bug 1755144] Re: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files
Yes I had the same thought; that this sounds specific to ffmpeg libraries/apps. Like VLC. Although Chrome uses ffmpeg it contains its own private (older) version. So that's why Chrome/Chromium would be unaffected. Totem wouldn't usually be affected, except that having gstreamer1.0-libav installed makes GStreamer apps like Totem use the affected/broken ffmpeg version. Maybe try forcefully reinstalling suspected packages. For example: sudo apt install --reinstall libavutil-ffmpeg54/xenial libavresample- ffmpeg2/xenial libavformat-ffmpeg56/xenial libavfilter-ffmpeg5/xenial libavdevice-ffmpeg56/xenial libavcodec-ffmpeg-extra56/xenial libavcodec- extra/xenial ** Also affects: ffmpeg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ffmpeg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755144 Title: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ffmpeg/+bug/1755144/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1756818] [NEW] Sync ntpsec 1.1.0+dfsg1-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main)
Public bug reported: Please sync ntpsec 1.1.0+dfsg1-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main) I am the maintainer of ntpsec in Debian. I understand that there is a feature freeze on Bionic. I am requesting a feature freeze exception for the following reasons: 1) There is a security vulnerability (CVE-2018-7182), so *something* has to be done. The simplest way to fix this would be to sync either 1.0.0+dfsg1-5 or 1.1.0+dfsg1-1. I'm not sure if it's still possible to sync 1.0.0+dfsg1-5. (I realize a security bug doesn't, by itself, necessarily justify an exception.) 2) ntpsec is a new package. It has never appeared in an Ubuntu release (LTS or non-LTS), nor a Debian release for that matter. This means that the potential negative impact of the exception is much lower (basically zero). 3) The 1.1.0 release fixes an interoperability bug with the Amazon time service where 33% of packets are dropped when ntpsec is the client. 4) The 1.1.0 release dramatically reduces the number of patches in the Debian package, as a large number of patches were upstreamed. This should make future security maintenance for the lifecycle of Bionic slightly easier. 5) Other important bugs were fixed in 1.0.0+dfsg1-4, 1.0.0+dfsg1-5, and 1.1.0+dfsg1-1, including those relating to conversions from the venerable ntp package to ntpsec, which is likely to be a common path. I am an Ubuntu user primarily. Every change to ntpsec is tested on Ubuntu first. I have been running 1.1.0+dfsg1-1 (from a PPA) on multiple machines running Xenial even before it was uploaded to Debian. I tested in a Bionic VM by installing 1.0.0+dfsg1-3 and upgrading to a PPA- packaged version of 1.1.0+dfsg1-1. Changelog entries since current bionic version 1.0.0+dfsg1-3: ntpsec (1.1.0+dfsg1-1) unstable; urgency=medium * Make ntpsec Conflict with ntpdate - Use ntpsec-ntpdate instead of ntpdate. * Stop deleting /var/lib/ntpdate/ (Closes: 892966) Thanks to Bernhard Schmidt for the suggestion. * New upstream version - Digests longer then 20 bytes will be truncated. - We have dropped support for Broadcast servers. - A bug that caused the rejection of 33% of packets from Amazon time service has been fixed. * Drop patches merged upstream - fix-ntpdig.patch - systemd-remove-extra-dependencies.patch - fix-name-of-psutil.patch - fix-spectracom-log-prefixes.patch - fix-ntpviz-file-encodings.patch - systemd-remove-remainafterexit.patch - systemd-use-high-priority.patch - systemd-ionice-ntpviz.patch - systemd-cleanup-ntp-wait-service.patch - fix-ntploggps.patch - systemd-use-usr-sbin.patch - systemd-do-not-restart.patch - systemd-allow-running-in-containers.patch - Merge-Classic-fix-for-CVE-2018-7182.patch * Update copyright -- Richard Laager Fri, 16 Mar 2018 00:42:24 -0500 ntpsec (1.0.0+dfsg1-5) unstable; urgency=high * Fix CVE-2018-7182 -- Richard Laager Wed, 07 Mar 2018 19:47:34 -0600 ntpsec (1.0.0+dfsg1-4) unstable; urgency=medium * Remove empty /var/log/ntpstats on ntpviz removal * Fix installing ntpsec-ntpviz without ntpsec (Closes: 891278) * systemd: Allow running in containers (Closes: 890771) -- Richard Laager Sun, 04 Mar 2018 15:06:58 -0600 ** Affects: ntpsec (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756818 Title: Sync ntpsec 1.1.0+dfsg1-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntpsec/+bug/1756818/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1736116] Re: [SRU] Host with kernel 4.13 freezes when starting a VM with VirtualBox
To be honest, since this bug is already 3 months old, and the risk of regressions is high, I would appreciate some additional days even if nothing bad showed up so far (maybe 10-15 days would be more appreciated). People can still use proposed if they want a fix, I don't think few more days can hurt too much. [Bug 1756826] [NEW] hangs when locate search provider matches a lot of files
Public bug reported: I have a maildir for my mail. My computer's name is "nightingale", and this name is in the filenames in the maildir. I have a lot of email! When I search for "tilix" to start a terminal after logging in, Nautilus goes crazy consuming CPU. This is because I have to type "ti" to type "tilix" and "ti" is a substring of "nightingale". This is submitted as a search string to the nautilus search provider and apparently isn't cancelled when I close the entry - I checked the GError and it's NULL. A similar thing happens with the ctrl-f search in nautilus itself. We talked about this on IRC and I provided some traces and stuff. [Bug 1756830] [NEW] Wifi connection don't autoconnect at boot but it works afterwards
Public bug reported: I'm using Kubuntu 18.04 installed from a daily and updated to current. When I restart my pc, NetworkManager cannot connect to wifi. According to logs (autoattached and here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/fmcF6B5T6x/) the problem is that NetworkManager cannot get the password. If I wait until it errors out or click "Disconnect" then "Connect", it works perfect. I've seen users in some forums (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=233519) telling that the problem is that when NetworkManager boots, KWallet is not yet available and so it doesn't have the password to connect to the wifi network. But if you click the "Connect" button, then KWallet is available and then it works. Maybe NetworkManager should depend on KWallet at boot (just Kubuntu, of course). [Bug 1756830] Re: Wifi connection don't autoconnect at boot but it works afterwards
I've tried the solution to Archlinux forum post and it works right now. The solution (more like a hack) is proposed here in the bottom message: https://superuser.com/questions/1278234/have-to-restart-networkmanager- to-get-wifi-autoconnect So, is anyone interested on trying a definitive solution to this?
