[Bug 1746426] [NEW] Totem is not associated with any mime types

2018-01-31 Thread Remco Haszing
Public bug reported:

In /usr/share/applications/totem.desktop no MimeType key is specified. I
believe this causes several tools to not be able to open video files.
For example, the following commands fail silently:

xdg-open asd.mkv
gio open asd.mvv

The following command does open the file, but outputs it's being
deprecated in favor of 'gio open'.

gvfs-open

I think his is basically https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842805, but for Ubuntu instead of Debian, and on a
Totem version where it has already been fixed for Debian.

[Bug 1745816] Re: [Bionic] 1.9.4-2ubuntu1 makes touchpad jumpy on Dell Precision 7510

2018-01-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I too have been asking and pressing him for such a property/setting for
some months already.

One reason why that hasn't been done is just the complexity of the software
stack. You'd have to implement it at four(?) different levels before it would
work:
  * libinput
  * gnome-shell / mutter
  * gsettings schema
  * gnome-tweak-tool / gnome-control-centre

[Bug 1728547] Re: SRU: Add support for keeping the dGPU on in power saving mode

2018-01-31 Thread Alex Tu
@sil2100,

refer to #26, could someone confirm this version 1:0.4.17.6 could be
released and not be blocked by other issues like build failed or another
bug which necessarily to be verified, while this launchpad ticket be
verified done?

I'll verify this ticket while this status could be confirmed.

[Bug 1711407] Re: unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free

2018-01-31 Thread Jiri Horky
Hi Dan,

Here is the output of the kernel when the "unregister_netdevice" bug was
hit for the first time on the reproducer machine.

I hope it helps. Let me know if I can provide you more debug output or
try to reproduce it once more.

Thanks
Jiri Horky

[Bug 1641290] Re: [04f3:0903] Elan Microelectronics Corp fingerprint reader not recognised

2018-01-31 Thread Igor Filatov
@SN Fprint mailing list has been quite active recently
https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/fprint/2018-January/thread.html

The main branch has an earlier version of the driver that only supports
0907. I don't think it would be wise to merge the rest just yet because
it's still not so good with some readers (in particular, the square
ones).

[Bug 1746438] [NEW] Suspend to ram stopped working reliably on XPS 9350

2018-01-31 Thread Gionn
Public bug reported:

Hi,

since installing intel-microcode
3.20180108.0+really20170707ubuntu16.04.1 the suspend to ram feature
(triggered via GNOME ui) has stopped working reliably.

Problem arise during resume (e.g. opening laptop lid), when most of
times (but not always) instead of getting my suspended session back I
get the DELL logo, like in a standard boot session.

@Igor I spoke to soon. the sddm support on arch with pam is super buggy.
The login screen does not work at all (actually locks you out because it
fails to fallback to your normal password) and the lock screen despite
working does the same as the login screen if you mis scan the
fingerprint on the initial try.

[Bug 1746444] [NEW] /run/chrony missing?

2018-01-31 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

>From logs:
chronyd[3443]: Could not change ownership of /run/chrony : Operation not
permitted
chronyd[3443]: Could not access /run/chrony : No such file or directory
chronyd[3443]: Disabled command socket /run/chrony/chronyd.sock

Not sure if this is critical, but it should be checked.

Per chronyc this is for:
There are two ways chronyc can access chronyd. One is the Internet Protocol
(IPv4 or IPv6) and the other is a Unix domain socket, which
is accessible locally by the root or chrony user. By default, chronyc first
tries to connect to the Unix domain socket. The compiled-in
default path is /run/chrony/chronyd.sock. If that fails (e.g. because chronyc
is running under a non-root user), it will try to connect
to 127.0.0.1 and then ::1.

Some commands are ONLY allowed via the socket connection OR if allowed per
"cmdallow" so this should be important.

[Bug 1737640] Re: [SRU] /usr/sbin/fanctl: arithmetic expression: expecting primary | unconfigured interfaces cause ifup failures

2018-01-31 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * This bug effects anyone deploying LXD with juju on a machine with
interfaces configured as IP/mask. Since this is a very common use case,
  SRU is needed.

  [Test Case]

   * Detailed process can be seen at https://paste.ubuntu.com/26169937/

  [Regression Potential]

   * Potential for regression is low because of the nature of the error.
It's just missing a case stanza for interfaces that are defined with
  IP/mask

  [Other Info]

   * Original report:

I'm seeing this error as the status of multiple containers in my deploy:

  http://paste.ubuntu.com/26166720/

I can't connect to the parent machines anymore either - it seems
networking is totally hosed on the machines.

  This is with juju 2.3.1.
+
+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ == Impact ==
+
+ Due to unexpectedly passing up a non-critical error to the ifup hooks,
+ this causes network interfaces to not come up.
+
+ == Fix ==
+
+ This was fixed in Xenial (and already forward ported to Bionic)
+ effectively allowing to bring up network interfaces via ifupdown after
+ installing ubuntu-fan.
+
+ == Testcase ==
+
+ Basic installation with ifupdown method for configuring network
+ interfaces (no longer default for Artful and later). Then installing
+ ubuntu-fan and either reboot or use ifdown -a && ifup -a in case of
+ being logged in locally. Without the fix interfaces will not come up
+ properly.
+
+ == Regression Risk ==
+
+ Minimal, well tested in Xenial and not impacting Artful and later if
+ ifupdown is not used.

[Bug 1746444] Re: /run/chrony missing?

2018-01-31 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Note: clients (as example) even fails if called as root.

Path is just not existing, if it exists as:

$ sudo ls -laF /run/chrony
total 0
drwxrwx--- 2 _chrony _chrony 40 Jan 31 08:48 ./

That is:
perm: 770
owner: _chrony:_chrony

Then things work on startup and creates:
srwxr-xr-x 1 _chrony _chrony 0 Jan 31 08:54 /run/chrony/chronyd.sock=

With that if a user that can not access the socket calls chronyc it is as
before.
But if a user can (member of chrony group or as root) then it has the designed
elevated permissions.

[Bug 1641290] Re: [04f3:0903] Elan Microelectronics Corp fingerprint reader not recognised

2018-01-31 Thread Igor Filatov
@SN The integration with PAM and and other flows that require auth is
indeed lacking in some places. For. ex. with gdm/mdm login does fall
back to password but even if you log in with fp, you need to enter the
password later to unlock your keyring, so... And if your home is
encrypted, you can't log in with fp at all so you need to make it fail 3
times before giving you a pw prompt. Then, gksu doesn't display any
message that you need to use the fp reader and you have no indication
that you need to do it besides a blinking led. If you don't have a led,
well...

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1746444 ***

Hi,
I came by the same issue and I'm already working on it for 18.04

I'm open to community work for 16.04 as well, it is just not on my personal
task list.
Until then you can easily work around that (without a fix in the package) by
doing:

sudo mkdir /run/chrony
sudo chown _chrony:_chrony /run/chrony
sudo chmod 770 /run/chrony
sudo systemctl restart chrony

You'll then see no more issues on systemctl in regard to that dir.
In there will be a unix control socket that allows all those who can access it
privileged commands.

Also for the network you can allow more commands via cmdallow
configuration (if you prefer that)

Currently the systemd service holds:

[Bug 1620936] Re: chronyd remains offline after desktop startup

2018-01-31 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1746444 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746444

On a Desktop system since 2.4.1 (>=Zesty) there is a NetworkManager hook
that should work better for a Desktop environment.

But it is also dependent on the command socket to be working.
That I currently address in bug 1746444.

Without that the internal calls to "chronyc online" will get back an
"501 Not authorised" and that is all that happens.

I'm dupping this on the remaining blocker 1746444.

FYI: I outlined in bug 1701926 how you can resolve the lack of a valid
command socket manually.

[Bug 1744468] Re: failed install

2018-01-31 Thread Edgar Orendain
I tried multiple approaches reported by other people with the same
issue. After not having much success, I ended up installing 17.04,
which went through fine, and then upgraded 17.04 to 17.10.

I then decided to try installing 17.10 cleanly, one last time. FWIW,
that finally went through fine.

[Bug 1746463] [NEW] apparmor profile load in stacked policy container fails

Public bug reported:

LXD containers on an artful or bionic host with aa namespaces, should be

[Bug 1746458] Re: should it rather be network online target in the service file?

2018-01-31 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Yes according to [1] the most direct translation to the old LSB $network would
be:
Wants=network-online.target
After=network-online.target

And that is what chrony was and IMHO should be again.
That also would fix some rare cases where network comes up late and chrony
starts in offline mode.
Relying on the hooks to online it isn't recommended btw (Only working for
NetworkManager in 18.04 atm).

[Bug 1746357] Re: Boot loop MSI A88XM35 AMD APU A8-5600K (Aruba HD7560D)

2018-01-31 Thread Bib
I can't boot the system: after selecting the live USB as the boot drive,
a message displays 1s repetitive ~CRC32~* or something like that. Then I
have to type TAB key (nothing on screen drives to this action). Once TAB
key was pressed, I select "live" option, then the system reboots in
seconds. I also tried "help" but before I can read the whole F2-F10 that
keep scrolling up out of the screen at the same rate the ~CRC32~ did,

2018-01-31 Thread Shih-Yuan Lee
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * This is a slight improvement and it should not have any impact.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Use live-build to generate a customized Ubuntu image with dell-recovery.
+ 2. Use the customized Ubuntu image to install the system.
+ 3. Select traditional Chinese language in oem-config-gtk's language page.
+ 4. Select the recovery media creation in oem-config-gtk's dell-recovery
plugin.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * It should be no regression unless the language will not use UTF-8
+ encoding by default.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * The commit has been accepted in lp:ubiquity.
+ * Right now, we are targeting on xenial series.
+

[Bug 1746482] [NEW] mount.cifs stopped working with protocol version != 1.0

2018-01-31 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Public bug reported:

On a Xenial installation after upgrading to the HWE 4.13.0-32-generic
kernel it is not possible to use mount.cifs with -o vers=x.y different
than 1.0.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Setup a local Samba share.
2. Run:
mount.cifs -o user=,vers=2.0 //localhost/theshare/ /mnt/theshare
(please note that not specifying the vers= option results in using protocol
SMB2.1 which also results in the error).
3. This may be repeated for the following versions: 2.0, 2.1, 3.0.

Expected result:
The share gets mounted at /mnt/theshare.

Actual result:
The share is not mounted, this gets printed in the console (and in dmesg):
[ 232.439162] CIFS VFS: ioctl error in smb2_get_dfs_refer rc=-2

[Bug 1746444] Re: /run/chrony missing - no privileged commands possible

2018-01-31 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Arr - stupid me

Of course /run is tmpfs now.
So instead of a postinst fix we need a service change that makes it available.

[Bug 1731382] Re: [needs-packaging] [Feature] DPTF binary tools

2018-01-31 Thread Anthony Wong
#1 and #3 fixed. I am leaving the binary in /usr/bin/ since non-root
users should be able to run it, which needs upstream to fix, bug already
filed.

[Bug 1746200] Re: Regression in 2017-07-07 updates

2018-01-31 Thread dino99
rEFInd is said 'beta quality' by its own dev
http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/

and itself rely on rEFIt which has its bugs list :
https://sourceforge.net/p/refit/bugs/ but looks abandonned

http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/todo.html

To conclude:

intel-microcode can't be blamed at first glance. But refind have
trouble to work with the microcode script. Please check: 'journalctl |
grep refind > refind.txt' (after intel-microcode removal then
reinstall).

Running refind over grub2 results having 2 EFI boot loaders at once !!!
http://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/index.html
... and that should be the main trouble source.

So test booting only with refind (purging grub2) and report back; but
that one is clearly 'invalid' regarding the links above.
