[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
Happy New Year! Acer Aspire E3-111-P605 with Insyde BIOS in legacy mode when updated to lubuntu 17.10 resulting in the problem unable to boot from USB or save changes in the BIOS. My solution was to upgrade the kernel to 4.14.10. Still unable to make any changes in BIOS. However when booting GRUB2 and selecting "c" (entering prompt) and then "exit" the Intel Undi PXE -2.1 (build 083)utility was invoked and wait for the PXE utility to exit - then I could boot from USB and/or USB CD-ROM drives. I found it interesting that when booting if I pressed "ESC" the attached drives appeared on the BIOS info screen - however if I entered the BIOS with "F2" - the BIOS reported only the Hard Drive and the Intel PXE as available boot devices. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1734147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1720594] Re: Right click Files in launcher unity ubuntu 18.04
Yes, it's a known issue. The quicklist bookmark plugin only works if the application is running. In previous versions Nautilus and nautilus- desktop were combined into a single package. But two are different processes and only nautilus-desktop is running. Dynamic quicklist can only work on Nautilus the app itself. One possible solution is to use static quicklist for bookmarks. But Unity may not use nautilus in future versions. So I am marking it as low importance. ** Branch unlinked: lp:~unity7maintainers/ubuntu-seeds/ubuntu- unity.bionic ** Summary changed: - Right click Files in launcher unity ubuntu 18.04 + Dynamic quicklist doesn't work without nautilus running 18.04 ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) => nautilus (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720594 Title: Dynamic quicklist doesn't work without nautilus running 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1720594/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1740746] [NEW] No ethernet after installing ubuntu 17.10 due to MAC address problem
Public bug reported: When doing a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 I notice that the installer didn't detect my wired ethernet correctly. It was set to ED:0B:00:00:E0:00 which is not the correct MAC address. My previous installation of Ubuntu 16.04 could find the correct MAC address automatically. I tried setting the correct MAC address in the network settings but that made the wired connection disappear from the network settings altogether. [Bug 1740751] [NEW] indicator-multiload display keeps resetting on its own
Public bug reported: I first noticed this problem in Ubuntu 16.04. It didn't occur in 14.04. I don't use non-LTS versions so I'm not exactly sure when it started. Basically, the display keeps resetting to the default without me doing anything. So I've customized it like so: gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.load enabled true gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.cpu enabled true gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.disk enabled true gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.net enabled true gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.swap enabled true gsettings set de.mh21.indicator-multiload.graphs.mem enabled true And it looks like the attached file indicator-multiload-customized.png But for whatever reason it keeps getting reset. I dug further into it, and apparently the cause is indicator-expression-index keeps getting set to different values. One time it was set to 1, and it looked like the attached file indicator-multiload-reset-1.png: $ dconf read /de/mh21/indicator-multiload/general/indicator-expression-index 1 Another time it was set to 6, and it looked like the attached file indicator-multiload-reset-2.png The workaround is very simple: dconf reset /de/mh21/indicator-multiload/general/indicator-expression- index But the problem is that indicator-expression-index keeps getting changed on its own without any intervention on my part. Public bug reported: Reproducibility: 100% reproducible steps to reproduce: 1. $ mpv -fv anyvideo_long_enough.anyformat 2. now please refrain from any mouse/keyboard activity, wait for the screensaver to activate 3. screensaver activates problem: the screensaver activates desired behaviour: the screensaver shouldn't activate long description: Hello, the screen keeps locking while I watch video with mpv. Basically the screensaver gets activated. but according to man mpv: --heartbeat-cmd= WARNING: This option is redundant with Lua scripting. Further, it shouldn't be needed for disabling screensaver anyway, since mpv will call xdg-screensaver when using X11 backend. As a consequence this option has been deprecated with no direct replacement. ... That all said as the screen getting locked contradicts the manpage, I consider this a bug. Thank you for the fix in advance. [Bug 1740792] [NEW] Automatic login still requires user password after suspend/hibernate
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 17.10 Release:17.10 gnome-control-center 3.26.2 When I set Ubuntu to automatically login a user the user still has to enter their password when resuming from a suspended session. The only option I can find to fix this is to disable the lock-screen completely, which I don't want to since I still want it to be an option to manually lock it. Setting Privacy > Screen Lock to off doesn't affect this behavior at all. The solution seems to be to use dconf-editor and change org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.ubuntu-lock-on-suspend to false. I got the solution after asking on askubuntu.com: https://askubuntu.com/questions/990056/turn-off-requesting-user- password-after-suspend-17-10 ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740792 Title: Automatic login still requires user password after suspend/hibernate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1740792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1740809] [NEW] Folder says Empty when it is not empty
Public bug reported: The folder/directory list on the left side of gthumb says "(Empty)" below a folder when that folder has no subdirectories, even though the folder is NOT empty: it contains photos! This is misleading and apt to cause the user -- such as me! -- to accidentally delete photos by deleting a non-empty directory thinking that it is empty. If the user clicks on the folder/directory name, then normally thumbnails are displayed on the right, so that can help alert the user to the presence of photos in that folder in spite of the fact that it says "(Empty)". However, this is not a reliable enough way to prevent accidental photo deletion, because: 1. gthumb might currently be displaying the contents of a completely different folder. For example, on the attached screenshot on the right the thumbnails of folder 12-11-22 are displayed, but a DIFFERENT folder (2012-11-26) has been right-clicked to pop up its menu in order to delete it, because gthumb (misleadingly) says "(Empty)" under that folder. 2. When a folder contains a LOT of photos, gthumb sometimes takes a long time before displaying any thumbnails, which can give the appearance of the folder being empty! 3. As I previously mentioned, the folder list on the left explicitly says "(Empty)". Please do not display the word "(Empty)" below a folder name unless that folder really is EMPTY, i.e., it contains no folders or other files. It is dangerously misleading and is not needed. This was tested on gthumb 3.4.3 on Ubuntu 16.04. ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Screenshots" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740809/+attachment/5029908/+files/Screenshot%20from%202018-01-01%2020-54-12.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740809 Title: Folder says Empty when it is not empty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gthumb/+bug/1740809/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1716654] Re: [System Product Name, Realtek ALC1220, Pink Mic, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound
I wanted to add to the above, while the crackling was heavily present for youtube, an mp3 played in clementine, and an mp4 video file in smplayer, I ran ubuntu-bug -s audio, and the test tones were all clear, except for a brief moment of static at the very last second. I ran the test twice to confirm, and I reconfirmed that the crackling status was still present in all other sources. As above, typing pulseaudio -k and waiting a few seconds before restarting audio sources fixes it for an indeterminate amount of time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716654 Title: [System Product Name, Realtek ALC1220, Pink Mic, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1716654/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
