[Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with lid closed after login

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I agree the default setting is sane and it's configurable either way.
The only problem is a lack of GUI to change it without having to install
gnome-tweak-tool. So that's really just a bug in gnome-control-center.

** Package changed: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) => gnome-control-
center (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1717023] Re: Jarring double gradient when window is maximized

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It makes sense that's what some people would prefer. Unity was designed
that way.

My gut feeling though is that it would look nicer with the always-black
panel. Gnome chose that and stuck to it for years for good reason. Doing
so would have the added benefit of never having the weird overlap of the
grey panel's left end above the launcher. Instead it would blend into
the screen bezel more seamlessly.

[Bug 1717170] Re: Gnome-shell session crash after monitor switch-off/input change.

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like you might have hit bug 1714330 but we should go though the
proper procedure in case you're experiencing a different problem...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 1716359] Re: Unplugging headset with audio panel open mutes internal mic

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If it's not reproducible in 17.10 (using Gnome) then at best that's "Fix
Released" or "Invalid" for gnome-control-center.

Buf if someone can still reproduce it in 16.04/17.04's unity-control-
center then this bug would remain open.

[Bug 1717176] Re: Fail to install wichita box

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
That would likely be the first md_check_array_state call.
 sync_action = md_sysfs_attr(md_devname, 'sync_action')

It checks if the MD is idle or if it has to wait for a sync to complete
(or to stop)

Now this is an upgraded maas, maybe the old DB for the node's disks create some
odd config.
So release + re-commisioning (and let it forget all old config)

[Bug 1700733] Re: Page number in preview strip is repeated if scanning quickly

2017-09-14 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
Please start gscan2pdf from the command line with the --log=log option,
reproduce the problem, quit, and attach the log file.

You say you are scanning multiple pages - do you mean singularly with a
flatbed, or with an ADF?

When you say processed, are you talking about postprocessing steps like
clean up or OCR?

This is likely to be caused by a race condition, which might be tricky
to reproduce on a different machine, so the more description you can
give, the better.

[Bug 1717176] Re: Fail to install or commission wichita (power 8)

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
We need to fix the recommisioning first and then can take a look at the curtin
issue (if it even still exists after a working recommission).
Therefore setting the maas bug to new and keeping curtin invalid for now.

[Bug 1716924] Re: [Ubuntu 17.10 FEAT] Include cxlflash package in Ubuntu

2017-09-14 Thread Andrew Cloke
Other bugs impacting the cxlflash driver have been handled by the kernel
team, e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1702521
and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1605405.

Is this a request to package a userspace application that leverages the
cxlflash driver's functionality?

[Bug 1717197] [NEW] GNOME control center menubar on non gnome shell DEs

[Bug 1717198] [NEW] Make normal volume step smaller (Artful)

2017-09-14 Thread Khurshid Alam
Public bug reported:

Issue:

When you increase or decrease volume using mouse (or by keyboard), it
either increases too much or decreases too low. In other words volume
step is too high. It varies among hardware because sound card doesn't
controls the whole chain such that the max db information is correct

Gnome provided keyboard based solution where you have to press shift+volume-key
to make it work. But it has several problem:

a) On many laptops (Asus EEBook) and AIOs (Dell AIO) there is no separate
volume-key. It is aggregated with function keys which doesn't work because
third level and 5th level keys are broken. The key combination which are
supposed to work are

Fn + [F11/F12],
Fn + +[Alt] + [F11/F12],
Fn + +[Alt] + [win] + [F11/F12],

It varies with hardware and very confusing. Because pressing [Fn] + [Shift]
simply doesn't work.

   b) On some modern touch screen notebook there is no regular volume
key. There are keys attached to the screen but those keys doesn't work
with "shift".

Patch:

This is a very small patch which simply modify volume_step and can be
easily maintained. This also makes mouse-wheel behavior synchronous with
keyboard. Thanks.

[Bug 1453655] Re: desktop icons disappear on Ubuntu 15.04 when clicking Open Dropbox folder

2017-09-14 Thread Mark
Same issue in 17.04 (a clean install). Do not have this problem with the
16.04 LTS release I have running on another computer.

Would greatly appreciate a fix for this, have been living with it now
for 6 months and, although no data is lost, it is REALLY annoying and
gives an impression of "flakiness". Only affects the desktop if I access
the dropbox folders from the icon in the system tray, if I go there
through the file manager all works ok.

[Bug 1581713] Re: Ubuntu Software always asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account when installing or removing a snap package

2017-09-14 Thread James Henstridge
The snapd side of things has been committed. Both on master:

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commit/44611140566f6e6aa2a3b583e0b2970b69c8f53f

... and the release/2.28 branch:

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commit/69a00bc4f4e54d7e0312c253b46b97fca834b736

Together with the already released snapd-glib 1.19, this version of
snapd will let you install snaps via gnome-software without an Ubuntu
One account. Instead you'll get a graphical prompt for your local
password, similar to when installing debs.

** Changed in: snapd (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

[Bug 1717213] [NEW] lubuntu installation with fully encryped disk is broken

2017-09-14 Thread Alois Vitasek
Public bug reported:

Hello,

This issue is concerned to the installation procedure for the Lubuntu
distribution.
I am using Lubuntu 17.04.

I was trying to install Lubuntu on new notebook with fully encrypted disk from
the USB stick.
It was not possible and had to do some workarounds (now it works).

There was three issues.

1) Before installation I had run

   sudo swapoff --all

2) Before installation I had install missing packake

   lvm2

3) When the installation finished successfully, computer was not able to
to boot. When I entered disk password, the boot process failed on strange
error.
   (I have not it)

   I have applied these steps

   https://feeding.cloud.geek.nz/posts/recovering-from-unbootable-
ubuntu-encrypted-lvm-root-partition/

   ant it works.

The problem was, that in the installed system was missing package

 lvm2

So I believe, that the problem is just only with missing package lvm2 in the
installation
system and also with missing this lvm2 package in the installed system.
(and also with swapoff --all)

Best regards

Alois Vitasek

[Bug 1717216] [NEW] FFe: Sync libsoup2.4 2.60.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-09-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Please sync libsoup2.4 2.60.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of FeatureFreeze exception:

libsoup follows the GNOME release cycle and we're shipping the rest of
GNOME 3.26.

Also, libsoup is a security sensitive package. (And 2.59.90.1 fixes
CVE-2017-2885). I think it's (slightly) easier for the Security Team to
backport security fixes for newer releases.

https://git.gnome.org/browse/libsoup/log/

Changelog entries since current artful version 2.56.1-1:

libsoup2.4 (2.60.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream translations release

 -- Jeremy Bicha Tue, 12 Sep 2017 11:03:12 -0400

libsoup2.4 (2.59.90.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
  * Drop all patches, applied in new release
  * debian/libsoup2.4-1.symbols: Add new symbols
  * debian/control.in:
- Build-depend on apache2 and php-xmlrpc for build tests

2017-09-14 Thread Robert Ancell
The crash is in new code that was added to the Xenial SRU, not a
regression in existing code.

The stacktrace doesn't point to an obvious issue that is causing this.
It's possible that the hash table has been corrupted by other code gone
wrong. I don't think this is worth blocking the SRU on.

[Bug 1698035] Re: FFe: gnome-control-center lacks any replacement for unity-control-center's Diagnostics tab for managing crash reports

2017-09-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Summary changed:

- gnome-control-center lacks any replacement for unity-control-center's
Diagnostics tab for managing crash reports
+ FFe: gnome-control-center lacks any replacement for unity-control-center's
Diagnostics tab for managing crash reports

** Description changed:

gnome-control-center lacks any replacement for unity-control-center's
Diagnostics tab (Ubuntu-specific) for managing crash reports.

  In Unity7 it's under:
- System Settings... > Security & Privacy > Diagnostics
+   System Settings... > Security & Privacy > Diagnostics
+
+ Feature Freeze Justification
+
+ This patch avoids the regression caused by dropping activity-log-manager from
the default install in 17.10. (activity-log-manager is mostly about handling
zeitgeist which is no longer a prominent part of the default Ubuntu desktop).
+
+ The patch reuses the strings used by Fedora's similar "abrt" feature
+ that is already in upstream gnome-control-center code so this should
+ avoid causing more work for translators.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10

[Bug 1716904] Re: simple-scan page-feeder fails on canon printer mb2050

2017-09-14 Thread Awesome Mike
Did another round of testing:
(sha256sum verified)

Single-Page (Platen) unstable in daily 14/09/2017, stable in beta1
Multi-Page (ADF Simplex) not working in daily 14/09/2017, not working in beta1

Scangear MP also has problems with the daily build.

Will download 15/09/2017 and test again, just to make sure its not

gnome-control-center lacks any replacement for unity-control-center's
Diagnostics tab (Ubuntu-specific) for managing crash reports.

  In Unity7 it's under:
System Settings... > Security & Privacy > Diagnostics

  Feature Freeze Justification

This patch avoids the regression caused by dropping activity-log-manager from
the default install in 17.10. (activity-log-manager is mostly about handling
zeitgeist which is no longer a prominent part of the default Ubuntu desktop).

The patch reuses the strings used by Fedora's similar "abrt" feature
that is already in upstream gnome-control-center code so this should
avoid causing more work for translators.

+ This will re-promote src:whoopsie-preferences to main (dropped to
+ universe when unity-control-center was demoted)

[Bug 1621550] Re: Snappy should detect when running in KVM, specify correct ssh connection line

2017-09-14 Thread Simos Xenitellis 
The goal of this report is to deal with the usability issue. The issue
that when you start Ubuntu Core through KVM, you do not get a working
command on how to connect to the running image.

A simple solution could be to adapt the text on #1 to say something
like:

can connect remotely to this device via SSH:

   ssh you@10.0.15.1(if running on standalone
device)
   ssh you@localhost(if running through KVM)

If KVM guests are not expected to be very common, then no change would be
necessary. Any instructions that describe how to boot into KVM, should have
the additional information on how to connect with SSH.

I think we fixed the main cause of this for 17.10 - calling setupcon

[Bug 1717224] [NEW] virsh start of virtual guest domain fails with internal error due to low default aio-max-nr sysctl value

2017-09-14 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Starting virtual guests via on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS installed with its KVM
hypervisor on an IBM Z14 system LPAR fails on the 18th guest with the
following error:

root@zm93k8:/rawimages/ubu1604qcow2# virsh start zs93kag70038
error: Failed to start domain zs93kag70038
error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor:
2017-07-26T01:48:26.352534Z qemu-kvm: -drive
file=/guestimages/data1/zs93kag70038.qcow2,format=qcow2,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,cache=none,aio=native:
Could not open backing file: Could not set AIO state: Inappropriate ioctl for
device

The previous 17 guests started fine:

root@zm93k8# virsh start zs93kag70020
Domain zs93kag70020 started

root@zm93k8# virsh start zs93kag70021
Domain zs93kag70021 started

.
.

root@zm93k8:/rawimages/ubu1604qcow2# virsh start zs93kag70036
Domain zs93kag70036 started

We ended up fixing the issue by adding the following line to /etc/sysctl.conf :

fs.aio-max-nr = 4194304

... then, reload the sysctl config file:

root@zm93k8:/etc# sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf
fs.aio-max-nr = 4194304

Now, we're able to start more guests...

root@zm93k8:/etc# virsh start zs93kag70036
Domain zs93kag70036 started

The default value was originally set to 65535:

root@zm93k8:/rawimages/ubu1604qcow2# cat /proc/sys/fs/aio-max-nr
65536

Note, we chose the 4194304 value, because this is what our KVM on System Z
hypervisor ships as its default value. Eg. on our zKVM system:

[root@zs93ka ~]# cat /proc/sys/fs/aio-max-nr
4194304

ubuntu@zm93k8:/etc$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial
ubuntu@zm93k8:/etc$

ubuntu@zm93k8:/etc$ dpkg -s qemu-kvm |grep Version
Version: 1:2.5+dfsg-5ubuntu10.8

Is something already documented for Ubuntu KVM users warning them about the low
default value, and some guidance as to
how to select an appropriate value? Also, would you consider increasing the
default aio-max-nr value to something much
higher, to accommodate significantly more virtual guests?

Thanks!

---Steps to Reproduce---
 See Problem Description.

The problem was happening a week ago, so this may not reflect that
activity.

This file was collected on Aug 7, one week after we were hitting the
problem. If I need to reproduce the problem and get fresh data, please
let me know.

/var/log/messages doesn't exist on this system, so I provided syslog
output instead.

All data have been collected too late after the problem was observed
over a week ago. If you need me to reproduce the problem and get new
data, please let me know. That's not a problem.

Also, we would have to make special arrangements for login access to
these systems. I'm happy to run traces and data collection for you as
needed. If that's not sufficient, then we'll explore log in access for
you.

Thanks... - Scott G.

I was able to successfully recreate the problem and captured / attached new
debug docs.

Recreate procedure:

# Started out with no virtual guests running.

fs.aio-max-nr = 65536

## sysctl -a shows:

[Bug 1717227] Re: qemu-system-x86_64 crashed with SIGABRT

2017-09-14 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed as the report has a core dump which is invalid. The
corruption may have happened on the system which the crash occurred or during
transit.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!
