[Bug 1448254] Re: openvswitch systemd unit file ordering wrong
I'm also affected by this on ubuntu 16.04. The patched systemd-unit-file does not work for me. With the original unit-file the systems starts fine and all bridges and physical interfaces are configured by openvswitch, but the systems hangs during shutdown. With patched unit-file the physical interfaces do not get attached to the openvswitch-bridges, but the system shutdown is working fine. Looks like ifup@ is turning the interfaces on before openvswitch consumes them. I tried playing with the unit-dependencies, but so far without luck. Is there already a bug report for xenial regarding this issue? I think it is a good idea to open bug against xenial, don't you think? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448254 Title: openvswitch systemd unit file ordering wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1448254/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1715157] Re: Ubuntu software center won't install updates.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1571209] Re: Sockfile check retries too short for a busy system boot
Found while testing: BTW - the base path of the socket is configurable, so the fixes would need to consider "unix_sock_dir" from /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf to be correct. If anyone changes that in the config the service will become "unstartable" as it always would consider it not up and break it. That should be wrapped up in the fix for Trusty where sysv/ustart is used. Continuing on systemd tests (while there is no explicit libvirtd.target to wait on I want to know how it behaves). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571209 Title: Sockfile check retries too short for a busy system boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1571209/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1571209] Re: Sockfile check retries too short for a busy system boot
To check on the systemd case I picked a rather slow system and spawned 30 guests. I set all those to autostart and then shut them down. Starting them sequentially as well as concurrently takes about ~20 seconds. /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock is gone after the service is stopped. With the following script this can be tested: $ cat test-restart.sh #!/bin/bash set -uxe date sudo systemctl start libvirtd date # right after start (1-2 seconds usually) check status of sockets and guests while /bin/true; do ls -laF /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock virsh list sudo systemctl status libvirtd --no-pager date sleep 2s done You will see that the "virsh list" is kind of blocking until other internal tasks are done. That pretty much ends up after the ~20 seconds that I counted until it goes on. All guests are started then and things are good. But the socket is available right after start, yet if you do a request you are enqueued and have to wait - which is fine. Output: $ ./test-restart.sh + date Mi 6. Sep 04:40:34 EDT 2017 + sudo systemctl start libvirtd + date Mi 6. Sep 04:40:34 EDT 2017 + /bin/true + ls -laF /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock srwxrwx--- 1 root libvirtd 0 Sep 6 04:40 /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock= + virsh list IdName State 1 artful-test30 running 2 artful-test9 running 3 artful-test8 running 4 artful-test23 running 5 artful-test13 running 6 artful-test19 running 7 artful-test11 running 8 artful-test15 running 9 artful-test10 running 10artful-test17 running 11artful-test5 running 12artful-test24 running 13artful-test26 running 14artful-test20 running 15artful-test2 running 16artful-test29 running 17artful-test22 running 18artful-test27 running 19artful-test14 running 20artful-test6 running 21artful-test25 running 22artful-test12 running 23artful-test3 running 24artful-test21 running 25artful-test7 running 26artful-test16 running 27artful-test28 running 28artful-test18 running 29artful-test1 running 30artful-test4 running + sudo systemctl status libvirtd --no-pager ● libvirtd.service - Virtualization daemon Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/libvirtd.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: active (running) since Wed 2017-09-06 04:40:34 EDT; 23s ago Docs: man:libvirtd(8) http://libvirt.org Main PID: 171137 (libvirtd) Tasks: 303 (limit: 32768) Memory: 93.7M CPU: 15.383s CGroup: /system.slice/libvirtd.service ├─ 3848 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --conf-file=/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.conf --leasefile-ro --dhcp-script=/usr/lib/libvirt/libvirt_…er ├─ 3849 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --conf-file=/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.conf --leasefile-ro --dhcp-script=/usr/lib/libvirt/libvirt_…er ├─171137 /usr/sbin/libvirtd ├─171530 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test30,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─171640 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test9,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/v…on ├─171789 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test8,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/v…on ├─171897 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test23,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─171970 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test13,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─172041 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test19,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─172116 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test11,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─172196 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test15,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─172273 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test10,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on ├─172348 qemu-system-s390x -enable-kvm -name guest=artful-test17,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/…on

Thanks for the reply. I tried the steps you mentioned several times and eventually ended up with a clean update. The main reason for the update was two fold. 1. The /boot partition was full. I had to manually clear out old versions of Linux to get enough space for the updates to complete. This happens on Kubuntu when the user takes security updates automatically, the new Linux uimages are added but the old ones are not removed. In my opinion, a command like "sudo apt-get autoremove -y" should be run after new Linux images have been added. 2. Something went wrong with the update and the wireless driver no longer worked. The output of iwconfig shows this problem. In then end, I did a full upgrade from 14.04LTS to 16.04LTS and my daughter's laptop is working again. Thanks again for your help. [Bug 1696305] Re: High CPU usage in gnome-shell just redrawing the screen (Firefox is running)
It appears the high CPU of gnome-shell with totem on Wayland at least is due to the totem app window redrawing at 60Hz seemingly only on Wayland (bug 1698282). When this happens, the compositor will have to upload (copy) the window texture from CPU to GPU 60 times per second, which is CPU-intensive. This would happen with any software ("shm") surface that is large and redrawing frequently. So I guess that might include Firefox too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696305 Title: High CPU usage in gnome-shell just redrawing the screen (Firefox is running) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1696305/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That leaves to fix Trusty: - do verifications on Trusty before working on SRU (we need working tests steps for SRU anyway) If confirmed: - backport supposed fix from guessi (thanks for all your work btw and sorry this fell out of sight) - adapt to not print messages too often (adaptive sleep) - has to consider the configuration chance to the base path (that needs to be done no matter what the startup tests show btw). ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Triaged => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571209 Title: Sockfile check retries too short for a busy system boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1571209/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1698270] Re: Totem pauses and stutters during video playback even when CPU usage is low
OK, I have now encountered a few reasons for totem stuttering... 1. Excessive/faulty tags parsing (only seen in Big Buck Bunny videos?). Upstream has fixed the root cause: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=786561 but we have also patched totem itself in Ubuntu to avoid the issue: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/3.25.90.1-0ubuntu2 2. Excessive CPU usage of clutter-gtk particularly under Wayland -> bug 1698282 3. Insufficient buffering/parallelism in GStreamer. BBB tends to have a big stutter when the video bitrate spikes over 11Mbps. I'm not aware of any other reports of the problem though. 4. My experimental fixes for the high CPU usage of clutter-gtk in bug 1698282 reintroduces an old smoothness problem that only occurs under the default setting of CLUTTER_BACKEND=gdk (but not with CLUTTER_BACKEND=wayland or x11). I'll try to fix that somewhere between bug 1698282 and this one. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #786561 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=786561 ** Also affects: gstreamer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gstreamer (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: gstreamer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Also affects: clutter-gtk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698270 Title: Totem pauses and stutters during video playback even when CPU usage is low To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/totem/+bug/1698270/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1571209] Re: Sockfile check retries too short for a busy system boot
Slowed down further (lmited to 2 cpus), startup of the guests takes minutes now. Still no issue to be seen. The socket is around and working, while in background the guests start slowly but surely. The test is now: # cat test-restart.sh #!/bin/bash set -uxe #starts off date ls -laF /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock sudo service libvirt-bin status date # start service sudo service libvirt-bin start date # check if socket is available immediately ls -laF /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock sudo service libvirt-bin status ls -laF /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock # this might take a while as the dameon queues requests virsh list date With 100 Guests shut down, but set to autostart on a 2 cpu system. That takes about 5 minutes to start the guests, but the service is up and ready on the socket before doing all that. Did you face something else? @Ed / @Guessi I know it is a long time, but I'd need to get something reproducible to go on fixing this for artful. If you can help me with examples that do please let me know. @Guessi: I tried with the degraded RAID but it worked for me as well, maybe it is just not the most reliable repro. @Ed: the original case lacks some details what actually failed e.g. what dependent services and how it was triggered in your case. [Bug 1686470] Re: Apt updates that are uniformly spread across all timezones, with predictable application windows
Test of 0.93.1ubuntu2.3 & 1.4.6~17.04.1 together are fine. please release the two together. @mikini - it is prudent from OS vendor point of view to enable and install security updates by default, as most users neglect to set it up themselves. unattanded-upgrades is one way to do this, but it is an optional component of the system and many users use other means to keep their systems secure. The constraints on randomising downloads is due to mirror load spikes. The constraint on consistent and predicable application of updates is due to unexpected behavior experienced by our user base when random application of updates was in place. Overall it is a sensible default. We do monitor crash and error rates, and that data suggests to us that people routinely postpone upgrades or delay them. As for key crashes we reach 90% of updates applied within 2 weeks. Thus defaults to apply updates within a day are sensible. Please note that adjusting .timer frequency alone will not be sufficient as apt has its own internal timestamps too which throttle unattanded upgrades. If you want full control of upgrades do execute / automate them in a manner that is appropriate for your deployment. There is nothing in place that would prevent you from doing that. Many people use other mechanisms for upgrades, e.g. landscape. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1686470 Title: Apt updates that are uniformly spread across all timezones, with predictable application windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1686470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1715097] Re: postfixadmin should work with MariaDB, cause it is a drop-in replacement
