[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
This is not funny any more... Ubuntu 16.04 desktop is not usable any more... The issues described by posters above used to happen to me only once per 14 days... Then once per week... And now it happens daily. I can not use the system. The only way is to power off the computer and power it back on. All my work lost and unable to do work. Is there a patch? If, how to apply it? Is there a workaround? I use Ubuntu 16.04, on a laptop with NVIDIA graphics and additional monitor. I am running VirtualBox. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311316 Title: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1311316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
** Description changed: [Impact] Users with pptpd will encounter errors when upgrading from 14.04->16.04. After the upgrade process, pptpd won't automatically start on boot. [Test case] 1. Setup a Trusty container - lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo + lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo 2. Install pptpd - lxc exec foo /bin/bash - apt-get install -y pptpd + lxc exec foo /bin/bash + apt-get install -y pptpd 3. Upgrade to Xenial - lxc exec foo /bin/bash - # make do-release-upgrade happy - script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null - chmod 777 /var/run/screen - do-release-upgrade + lxc exec foo /bin/bash + # make do-release-upgrade happy + script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null + chmod 777 /var/run/screen + do-release-upgrade 4. Notice that pptpd fails to install properly and -apport is invoked + apport is invoked - If the debdiff makes it into -proposed, one should be able to confirm - the fix by running "do-release-upgrade --proposed". + The fix is hard to confirm properly until the debdiff lands into xenial- + updates. Until then, broken Xenial upgrades can be fixed by enabling + xenial-proposed and upgrading pptpd to 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2. [Regression potential] Risks of regressions should be minimal since the fix have been included in Yakkety and Debian already. Worst case, users will still need to manually start the pptpd service on boot. [Original issue description] This is one of the crashed that happened during upgrade to 16.04 LTS. The install routine was exited with a script error. [Bug 1705639] [NEW] cloud-init depends on ifupdown, holding it in the artful images
Public bug reported: cloud-init in artful has a versioned dependency on ifupdown (>= 0.6.10ubuntu5). This looks like it was probably added to ensure cloud- init had access to the static-network-up upstart event. That release of ifupdown was included in oneiric, which is EOL. So the versioned dependency can be dropped without negative impact. And cloud- init does not depend on ifupdown functionality in recent Ubuntu releases, and in fact this dependency currently causes ifupdown to be held in the cloud images when we want to drop it. Please remove the dependency on ifupdown in artful. ** Affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Changed in: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-17.07 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705639 Title: cloud-init depends on ifupdown, holding it in the artful images To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1705639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Christian, my reproduction steps were wrong, "do-release-upgrade --proposed" in a Trusty container won't work because this will only pull the upgrader from xenial-proposed and not pptpd. As such, there is no easy way to do a test release upgrade but you can fix a broken upgrade by installing 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2 from xenial-proposed. Lastly, the unauthenticated warning from your Trusty container seems to be unrelated, try refreshing your indexes (apt-get update) and see if that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1610500 Title: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pptpd/+bug/1610500/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1705551] Re: close lid suspends correctly and wakealarm resumes from suspend to run cron jobs but opening lid reveals no display
Hi, you said "all sorts of keyboard combinations" but maybe it is worth a try. I had a similar case where it actually enabled the display, but at brightness 0 - you might not accidentally have the same case? I could get it on by using the FN keys to increase brightness in those cases. Another question would be if you never close the lid, but suspend via SW. And next day you wakeup via the alarm (while the lid was still open when sleeping) - is it then waking up normally with display enabled? Finally - I beg your pardon as I'm not an expert on this - but the following could enable it. You might need tweaks to actually "reach" your xorg, but I'm sure you can do that. Once you did call: $ xset dpms force off That should disable the power saving blank that your screen is in. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705551 Title: close lid suspends correctly and wakealarm resumes from suspend to run cron jobs but opening lid reveals no display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1705551/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Christian, I finally found how to properly test the upgrade with the -proposed package (see the updated test case). ** Description changed: [Impact] Users with pptpd will encounter errors when upgrading from 14.04->16.04. After the upgrade process, pptpd won't automatically start on boot. [Test case] 1. Setup a Trusty container lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo 2. Install pptpd lxc exec foo /bin/bash apt-get install -y pptpd 3. Upgrade to Xenial lxc exec foo /bin/bash # make do-release-upgrade happy script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null chmod 777 /var/run/screen do-release-upgrade 4. Notice that pptpd fails to install properly and apport is invoked - The fix is hard to confirm properly until the debdiff lands into xenial- - updates. Until then, broken Xenial upgrades can be fixed by enabling - xenial-proposed and upgrading pptpd to 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2. + To confirm the fix, enable trusty-proposed before running the "do- + release-upgrade". This will pull pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2 from xenial- + proposed and should let the upgrade complete successfully. [Regression potential] Risks of regressions should be minimal since the fix have been included in Yakkety and Debian already. Worst case, users will still need to manually start the pptpd service on boot. [Original issue description] This is one of the crashed that happened during upgrade to 16.04 LTS. [Bug 1705554] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Lohar, from the log: 2017-07-20T18:52:53.167712Z 0 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ? An upgrade of a service restarts it to pick up the new changes, in your case there is something running on the port that mysql wants to listen on. Due to that it fails to (re-)start which lets the upgrade fail. You'll have to find what is actually on that port and clean it up - another mysql not controlled by the service maybe? Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705554 Title: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1705554/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
