[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2017-07-21 Thread Klemen
This is not funny any more... Ubuntu 16.04 desktop is not usable any
more...

The issues described by posters above used to happen to me only once per
14 days... Then once per week... And now it happens daily. I can not use
the system. The only way is to power off the computer and power it back
on. All my work lost and unable to do work.

Is there a patch? If, how to apply it? Is there a workaround?

I use Ubuntu 16.04, on a laptop with NVIDIA graphics and additional
monitor. I am running VirtualBox.

[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-21 Thread Simon Déziel
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Users with pptpd will encounter errors when upgrading from 14.04->16.04.
After the upgrade process, pptpd won't automatically start on boot.

  [Test case]

  1. Setup a Trusty container
- lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo
+   lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo
  2. Install pptpd
- lxc exec foo /bin/bash
- apt-get install -y pptpd
+   lxc exec foo /bin/bash
+   apt-get install -y pptpd
  3. Upgrade to Xenial
- lxc exec foo /bin/bash
- # make do-release-upgrade happy
- script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null
- chmod 777 /var/run/screen
- do-release-upgrade
+   lxc exec foo /bin/bash
+   # make do-release-upgrade happy
+   script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null
+   chmod 777 /var/run/screen
+   do-release-upgrade
  4. Notice that pptpd fails to install properly and
-apport is invoked
+    apport is invoked

- If the debdiff makes it into -proposed, one should be able to confirm
- the fix by running "do-release-upgrade --proposed".
+ The fix is hard to confirm properly until the debdiff lands into xenial-
+ updates. Until then, broken Xenial upgrades can be fixed by enabling
+ xenial-proposed and upgrading pptpd to 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2.

  [Regression potential]

Risks of regressions should be minimal since the fix have been included
in Yakkety and Debian already. Worst case, users will still need to
manually start the pptpd service on boot.

  [Original issue description]

This is one of the crashed that happened during upgrade to 16.04 LTS.
The install routine was exited with a script error. Try to figure stuff
of since pptpd seems to be outdated

[Bug 1705639] [NEW] cloud-init depends on ifupdown, holding it in the artful images

2017-07-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

cloud-init in artful has a versioned dependency on ifupdown (>=
0.6.10ubuntu5). This looks like it was probably added to ensure cloud-
init had access to the static-network-up upstart event.

That release of ifupdown was included in oneiric, which is EOL. So the
versioned dependency can be dropped without negative impact. And cloud-
init does not depend on ifupdown functionality in recent Ubuntu
releases, and in fact this dependency currently causes ifupdown to be
held in the cloud images when we want to drop it.

Please remove the dependency on ifupdown in artful.

Maybe this helps?

Unfortunately, the logs in your bug report do not show the nature of the
failure. The dpkg term.log says:

Log started: 2017-07-20 23:35:56

and the history.log says:

If this problem is reproducible with 'dpkg --configure -a' or 'apt -f

to understand this bug.

[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-21 Thread Simon Déziel
Christian, my reproduction steps were wrong, "do-release-upgrade
--proposed" in a Trusty container won't work because this will only pull
the upgrader from xenial-proposed and not pptpd. As such, there is no
easy way to do a test release upgrade but you can fix a broken upgrade
by installing 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2 from xenial-proposed. Lastly, the
unauthenticated warning from your Trusty container seems to be
unrelated, try refreshing your indexes (apt-get update) and see if that
helps.

[Bug 1696499] Re: dhclient segfaults on ubuntu 17.04

2017-07-21 Thread Edward Jiang
Workaround provided does not seem to work for me. It seems the dhclient
binary only fails with Seg fault when it is at /sbin/dhclient, when it
is moved to /usr/sbin/dhclient it works fine from command line. But this
made nm-dhclient-helper to fail.

[Bug 1701556] Re: Backport rustc 1.17 and cargo 0.18 to 14.04/16.04 and 17.04

2017-07-21 Thread Rico Tzschichholz

Firefox 56+ will require rust 1.17 and cargo 0.18 to build.

The beta-phase for Firefox 56.0 begins on 7th August and release
candidates will be available from 18th September.

17.10/Artful still requires an update of cargo first while rustc is

IMHO, the window isn't its own X window, and global size = size of the

[Bug 1705551] Re: close lid suspends correctly and wakealarm resumes from suspend to run cron jobs but opening lid reveals no display

2017-07-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
you said "all sorts of keyboard combinations" but maybe it is worth a try. I
had a similar case where it actually enabled the display, but at brightness 0 -
you might not accidentally have the same case? I could get it on by using the
FN keys to increase brightness in those cases.

Another question would be if you never close the lid, but suspend via SW.
And next day you wakeup via the alarm (while the lid was still open when
sleeping) - is it then waking up normally with display enabled?

Finally - I beg your pardon as I'm not an expert on this - but the following
could enable it.
You might need tweaks to actually "reach" your xorg, but I'm sure you can do
that. Once you did call:
 $ xset dpms force off
That should disable the power saving blank that your screen is in.

[Bug 1610500] Re: package pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-21 Thread Simon Déziel
Christian, I finally found how to properly test the upgrade with the
-proposed package (see the updated test case).

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Users with pptpd will encounter errors when upgrading from 14.04->16.04.
After the upgrade process, pptpd won't automatically start on boot.

  [Test case]

  1. Setup a Trusty container
    lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty foo
  2. Install pptpd
    lxc exec foo /bin/bash
    apt-get install -y pptpd
  3. Upgrade to Xenial
    lxc exec foo /bin/bash
    # make do-release-upgrade happy
    script -c "/bin/bash -l" /dev/null
    chmod 777 /var/run/screen
    do-release-upgrade
  4. Notice that pptpd fails to install properly and
     apport is invoked

- The fix is hard to confirm properly until the debdiff lands into xenial-
- updates. Until then, broken Xenial upgrades can be fixed by enabling
- xenial-proposed and upgrading pptpd to 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2.
+ To confirm the fix, enable trusty-proposed before running the "do-
+ release-upgrade". This will pull pptpd 1.4.0-7ubuntu0.2 from xenial-
+ proposed and should let the upgrade complete successfully.

  [Regression potential]

Risks of regressions should be minimal since the fix have been included
in Yakkety and Debian already. Worst case, users will still need to
manually start the pptpd service on boot.

  [Original issue description]

This is one of the crashed that happened during upgrade to 16.04 LTS.
The install routine was exited with a script error. Try to figure stuff
of since pptpd seems to be outdated

[Bug 1694800] Re: Frequent Core Lock

2017-07-21 Thread William Osborne
I thought 4.12.2 fixed this issue but it just now crashed again.
I have replaced every single piece of hardware. CPU(fx and ryzen), mobo(asus
and MSI), memory, hard drives(WD blue and re4 for boot disk, with red for
storage array) , video card(nvidia and ATI).
The only commonality is Ubuntu with a large(7+TB) disk array on some kind a
64bit AMD CPU(i have not tried intel) with and without proprietary CPU code. I
have used zfs and mdadm. I switched from samba to nfs for shares.

clean install with bind, and open ssh selected from tasksel and htop
after the fact. Nothing else extra installed.

Issue started in Ubuntu 14.04 at some point later in it's life cycle.

[Bug 1705653] [NEW] budgie-desktop freezes with the global app-menu

2017-07-21 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

Artful 17.10 - installed the binary package budgie-panel-appmenu

Launching Excel, checking the global menu appears - then click the
budgie start menu. The whole desktop freezes solid.

The solution is to add to the proxy

https://github.com/rilian-la-te/vala-panel-
appmenu/commit/ee82d6cbb938f1f5519d29c9dee5c58b4ec42443

so we'll need to add all the blacklist and suggested schema blacklist to
the debian package overrides for unity-gtk-modules.

[Bug 1705554] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Lohar,

from the log:
2017-07-20T18:52:53.167712Z 0 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server
running on port: 3306 ?

An upgrade of a service restarts it to pick up the new changes, in your case
there is something running on the port that mysql wants to listen on.
Due to that it fails to (re-)start which lets the upgrade fail.

You'll have to find what is actually on that port and clean it up - another
mysql not controlled by the service maybe? You can find with e.g.
$ ss -atnp '( src :3306 )'

[Bug 1705554] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

** Description changed:

this is probably a duplicate of
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1683277, but I was
asked to file a new bug.

The mute button on my laptop has a led that changes the color based on
the status of the audio-master channel. At least it should.

There is a slider for the LED in alsamixer but it doesn't change
  anything.

Are there any tests I should run?
