[Bug 1617005] Re: [MIR] zmqpp

2017-02-25 Thread Seth Arnold
My apologies for letting this slip.

Considering this came from the zmq project and wouldn't have been
surprising if it had been included in the zeromq3 source package, I
decided to just give this very quick spot-checks and review the
packaging as a sanity check.

Security team ACK for promoting zmqpp to main.

Thanks

[Bug 1606600] Re: dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades results in update-rc.d warning that start and stop actions are no longer supported

2017-02-25 Thread Chris Glass
I *think* the root of the issue is that the assumption in debian/rules

# we do not want to run the init script in the postinst/prerm, its
# really only useful on shutdown, see Debian bug #645919
dh_installinit $@ --no-start -- stop 10 0 6 .

is wrong.

It is not only useful on shutdown but also when dpkg-reconfigure is
invoked.

As a strawman fix, I've uploaded a fixed (xenial) package to
https://launchpad.net/~tribaal/+archive/ubuntu/unattended-upgrades

It seems to fix the issue in my limited testing: running "dpkg-
reconfigure -fnoninteractive unattended-upgrades" does apply changes
passed by debconf-set-selections.

I'll attach a debdiff to this bug as well, and open a pull request
upsteam.

I've discovered that I'm affected by this bug, but *only* when I've got
2 chrome windows open on different desktops (I've got a 2x2 grid of
desktops) on Ubuntu 16.10 - it wasn't doing this on Ubuntu 16.04.

How can this be a duplicate of a webkit bug when chrome doesn't even use
webkit though?

[Bug 1667917] [NEW] package libzend-framework-php 1.11.11-0ubuntu3.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

Public bug reported:

I used zend framework in the past. Then I got the message that it
couldn't write in /usr/share/php/libzend-framework-php directory. I
removed this directory and re-run the update. After restart I got the
error message this report is about.

[Bug 1667920] [NEW] login screen freeze

2017-02-25 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
Public bug reported:

Running an up-to-date (as of Feb 25 2017) 16.04 / Unity on an old MSI
U160 netbook.

After a recent update to kernel 4.4.0-63 I have started getting frozen
login screens. The touchpad and keyboard are completely dead (before I
ever get to enter my password), and my only way out is to force
shutdown.

I can start GRUB on boot and go for an earlier version instead, but
everything past 4.4.0-62 freezes in the same fashion (that's what I'm
currently running as a temporary fix); a newer update to 4.4.0-64 has
not fixed the issue.

[Bug 1620360] Re: i8kfan does not work with latest kernel

2017-02-25 Thread htrex
I'm using i8kutils on Dell XPS 9560 with a fresh installed Ubuntu
16.04.2 Kernel 4.8 and I managed to set it up and make it work, but it
was tricky.

One problem was that to make it work it was necessary to download the
package sources, compile and move the "smm" utility to /usr/local/bin as
that doesn't ship as a binary with the package.

The smm utility is needed to enable/disable the fan handling from the BIOS.
I've created a couple of scripts to switch between BIOS and i8kmon fan control.
Be careful with smm as it writes on hardware registers and if misused can
potentially create troubles or even damage, in fact if you turn off bios fan
management the effects of the command survive a reboot, if you plan to boot
another OS enable BIOS fan control.

-
I8KUTILS fan control
-
#!/bin/bash
sudo smm 30a3
sudo service i8kmon start

-
BIOS fan control
-
#!/bin/bash
sudo service i8kmon stop
sudo smm 31a3

The Dell XPS 9560 has 2 fans so this is my custom /etc/i8kmon.conf

# Temperature thresholds: {fan_speeds low_ac high_ac low_batt high_batt}
# These were tested on the I8000. If you have a different Dell laptop model
# you should check the BIOS temperature monitoring and set the appropriate
# thresholds here. In doubt start with low values and gradually rise them
# until the fans are not always on when the cpu is idle.

2017-02-25 Thread Gaétan QUENTIN
NO.

I don't think this is the root problem. There is a file read by
software-property* somewhere which is not utf-8 compliant. This problem
came after a long working fine system with 16.04. locale didn't
changed.

Could it be possible to output in the softawre-properties-tgk* code ,
the read failure "file name" which is in failure ? Telling it in the
output could be helpfull to track problem.

[Bug 1590985] Re: Wifi non-functional after suspend (Intel 6205)

2017-02-25 Thread Tormod Volden
When I have the OP's original issue, lost connection after resume and
only one network listed, simply running "sudo iw wlp3s0 scan" makes
everything work again, without having to reload the module.

I am sure I have seen the lost connection after resume without any
network listed too. I have not yet determined if a scan will fix this
without reloading modules, otherwise I would believe I am actually
experiencing 3 different issues.

[Bug 1337898] Re: Invalid symlinks for libungif.so and libungif.a

2017-02-25 Thread Sebastian Marsching
I updated the Impact and Test Case sections of this bug's description. I
hope this better fits the purpose of describing the actual impact on
users.

** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
- libgif-dev in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS depends on libgif4 and has these symlinks:
- /usr/lib/libungif.a -> libgif.a
- /usr/lib/libungif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6
- /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6
- /usr/lib/libungif.la -> libgif.la
-
- libgif4 has these files:
- /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so.4.1.6
- /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so.4 -> libgif.so.4.1.6
-
- Only the 3rd symlink (the multiarch one) in libgif-dev is correct. The
- others are dangling.
-
- This was caused by an obsolete debian/libgif-dev.links
+ Linking programs that need libungif ("-lungif") will fail.

  Test Case
  =
- Verify that libgif-dev only includes the one working symlink:
- /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6
+ apt-get install build-essential libgif-dev
+ cat >>test.c EOF
+ int main(int argc, char **argv) {
+   return 0;
+ }
+ EOF
+ gcc -lungif test.c
+
+ GCC will fail with "/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lungif" on affected
+ systems.

  Regression Potential

  None, just removing some dangling symlinks that couldn't work any way.

  Original Bug Report
  ===
  In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on x86_64 I am experiencing the following bug in
libgif-dev 4.1.6-11:

  Symbol links for libungif.a, libungif.la, and libungif.so are created in
  /usr/lib that point to libgif.a, libgif.la and libgif.so.4.1.6
  respectively. However, these files are not in /usr/lib but in
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Therefore, the symbol links are invalid.

  I suggest fixing this by placing the symbol links in the same directory
  as the target files.

Hi Onno, thanks for filing a bug. Yes I think you're right: the

installed by default.

In case it's of use to you, there's a description of how to use Remmina

[Bug 1620360] Re: i8kfan does not work with latest kernel

2017-02-25 Thread htrex
Ops... forgot an important step that was necessary for my laptop,
otherwise the i8k module wont load.

sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/i8k.conf

and fill it with this code:

options i8k force=1

On XPS 9560 the only thing that bothers me a bit is that i8k only supports 2500
and 4800 rpm fan speeds, while on Windows 10 I'm seeing the fan can spin also
at 3100, 3700, 5100 rpm

[Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-02-25 Thread Edward Gibbs
As requested I downloaded the latest build and ran it from USB. After
selecting hybrid graphics in BIOS I booted up and was delighted to see
no mouse trails on the 2nd monitor!

I then rebooted back into 16.04 leaving hybrid graphics selected - no
mouse trails!

I think there was an Intel firmware update a week or two ago that I got
on Windows, maybe it updated the Intel graphics firmware? Whatever
happened I am happy to say that I cannot now duplicate the problem and
hybrid graphics seems to be working properly in both 16.04 and 17.10.

Thanks for your help.

interesting, the menu is not in the screenshot, but it was there (on the

I use gksu occasionally but not in the past month or so that I can
recall. This shows up constantly:

I can see it in every one of my hourly syslog snippets that are emailed

[Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-02-25 Thread Edward Gibbs
Well, it was not a firmware update that fixed it. I'm on Qubes 4.2
right now and it still has the problem, Qubes is using Xfce 4.12 as
it's desktop manager, which I believe is Ubuntu based. Some update to
Ubuntu must have fixed the problem and it hasn't been rolled into the
Xfce version Qubes is using.

[Bug 1665602] Re: nautilus no thumbnails for .jpg and .png

2017-02-25 Thread corrado venturini
I don't had the problem with an old install from: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" -
Alpha amd64 (20161106)
so I'm trying to give some more info.

I started with:

Ubuntu installed from: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Alpha amd64 (20161106)
NEVER updated:
corrado@corrado-z-nov16:~$ uname -a
Linux corrado-z-nov16 4.10.0-8-generic #10-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 13 14:04:59 UTC
2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
corrado@corrado-z-nov16:~$

attached: BeforeUpdates: log .cache .config .local inxi screenshot
thumbnails where created ok - see screenshot

Then I Run apt-get update + upgrade

attached: After1stUpdate: installer Pictures .cache .config .gconf .local
varous logs
thumbnails created wrong. see last 2 thumbnails

I restarted, but ubuntu started in low graphic mode. Restarted in
emergency mode. Run update + upgrade + dist-upgrade. attached:
2ndUpgrade: varoius logs.

Restart again. now all seems ok BUT thumbnails are wrong.
attached: AfterLastUpgrade: a lot of data. thumbnails wrong for .jpg and .png.
Good thumbnail for .tiff

I still have a copy of the old iso: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Alpha amd64
(20161106)
so I may reistall it and produce more doc.
Let my know if You need.
bye

[Bug 1667940] [NEW] Please update Dpkg as it has regressions fixes

[Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown

2017-02-25 Thread Sam_
Christopher, I'm aware on how to change the status, as said, I'd wanted
to test 4.8 again to make sure it wasn't a coincidence. Finally also the
updated hwe-stack of 4.8 works as expected. Thanks for your work. This
bug was never invalid, 4.4 was always an issue which 4.8-hwe fixed.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => Fix Released
