[Bug 1617005] Re: [MIR] zmqpp
My apologies for letting this slip. Considering this came from the zmq project and wouldn't have been surprising if it had been included in the zeromq3 source package, I decided to just give this very quick spot-checks and review the packaging as a sanity check. Security team ACK for promoting zmqpp to main. [Bug 1606600] Re: dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades results in update-rc.d warning that start and stop actions are no longer supported
I *think* the root of the issue is that the assumption in debian/rules # we do not want to run the init script in the postinst/prerm, its # really only useful on shutdown, see Debian bug #645919 dh_installinit $@ --no-start -- stop 10 0 6 . is wrong. It is not only useful on shutdown but also when dpkg-reconfigure is invoked. As a strawman fix, I've uploaded a fixed (xenial) package to https://launchpad.net/~tribaal/+archive/ubuntu/unattended-upgrades It seems to fix the issue in my limited testing: running "dpkg- reconfigure -fnoninteractive unattended-upgrades" does apply changes passed by debconf-set-selections. I'll attach a debdiff to this bug as well, and open a pull request upsteam. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1606600 Title: dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades results in update-rc.d warning that start and stop actions are no longer supported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1606600/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1667920] [NEW] login screen freeze
Public bug reported: Running an up-to-date (as of Feb 25 2017) 16.04 / Unity on an old MSI U160 netbook. After a recent update to kernel 4.4.0-63 I have started getting frozen login screens. The touchpad and keyboard are completely dead (before I ever get to enter my password), and my only way out is to force shutdown. I can start GRUB on boot and go for an earlier version instead, but everything past 4.4.0-62 freezes in the same fashion (that's what I'm currently running as a temporary fix); a newer update to 4.4.0-64 has not fixed the issue. [Bug 1620360] Re: i8kfan does not work with latest kernel
I'm using i8kutils on Dell XPS 9560 with a fresh installed Ubuntu 16.04.2 Kernel 4.8 and I managed to set it up and make it work, but it was tricky. One problem was that to make it work it was necessary to download the package sources, compile and move the "smm" utility to /usr/local/bin as that doesn't ship as a binary with the package. The smm utility is needed to enable/disable the fan handling from the BIOS. I've created a couple of scripts to switch between BIOS and i8kmon fan control. Be careful with smm as it writes on hardware registers and if misused can potentially create troubles or even damage, in fact if you turn off bios fan management the effects of the command survive a reboot, if you plan to boot another OS enable BIOS fan control. - I8KUTILS fan control - #!/bin/bash sudo smm 30a3 sudo service i8kmon start - BIOS fan control - #!/bin/bash sudo service i8kmon stop sudo smm 31a3 The Dell XPS 9560 has 2 fans so this is my custom /etc/i8kmon.conf # Temperature thresholds: {fan_speeds low_ac high_ac low_batt high_batt} # These were tested on the I8000. [Bug 1590985] Re: Wifi non-functional after suspend (Intel 6205)
When I have the OP's original issue, lost connection after resume and only one network listed, simply running "sudo iw wlp3s0 scan" makes everything work again, without having to reload the module. I am sure I have seen the lost connection after resume without any network listed too. [Bug 1337898] Re: Invalid symlinks for libungif.so and libungif.a
I updated the Impact and Test Case sections of this bug's description. I hope this better fits the purpose of describing the actual impact on users. ** Description changed: Impact == - libgif-dev in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS depends on libgif4 and has these symlinks: - /usr/lib/libungif.a -> libgif.a - /usr/lib/libungif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6 - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6 - /usr/lib/libungif.la -> libgif.la - - libgif4 has these files: - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so.4.1.6 - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so.4 -> libgif.so.4.1.6 - - Only the 3rd symlink (the multiarch one) in libgif-dev is correct. The - others are dangling. - - This was caused by an obsolete debian/libgif-dev.links + Linking programs that need libungif ("-lungif") will fail. Test Case = - Verify that libgif-dev only includes the one working symlink: - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgif.so -> libgif.so.4.1.6 + apt-get install build-essential libgif-dev + cat >>test.c EOF + int main(int argc, char **argv) { + return 0; + } + EOF + gcc -lungif test.c + + GCC will fail with "/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lungif" on affected + systems. Regression Potential None, just removing some dangling symlinks that couldn't work any way. Original Bug Report === In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on x86_64 I am experiencing the following bug in libgif-dev 4.1.6-11: Symbol links for libungif.a, libungif.la, and libungif.so are created in /usr/lib that point to libgif.a, libgif.la and libgif.so.4.1.6 respectively. However, these files are not in /usr/lib but in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Therefore, the symbol links are invalid. I suggest fixing this by placing the symbol links in the same directory as the target files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1337898 Title: Invalid symlinks for libungif.so and libungif.a To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/giflib/+bug/1337898/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor
As requested I downloaded the latest build and ran it from USB. After selecting hybrid graphics in BIOS I booted up and was delighted to see no mouse trails on the 2nd monitor! I then rebooted back into 16.04 leaving hybrid graphics selected - no mouse trails! I think there was an Intel firmware update a week or two ago that I got on Windows, maybe it updated the Intel graphics firmware? Whatever happened I am happy to say that I cannot now duplicate the problem and hybrid graphics seems to be working properly in both 16.04 and 17.10. Well, it was not a firmware update that fixed it. I'm on Qubes 4.2 right now and it still has the problem, Qubes is using Xfce 4.12 as it's desktop manager, which I believe is Ubuntu based. [Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown
Christopher, I'm aware on how to change the status, as said, I'd wanted to test 4.8 again to make sure it wasn't a coincidence. Finally also the updated hwe-stack of 4.8 works as expected. Thanks for your work. This bug was never invalid, 4.4 was always an issue which 4.8-hwe fixed. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1643341 Title: Unexpected shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1643341/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
