[Bug 1632209] Re: apt-file search says "Don't know how to handle tor+http"

2017-01-28 Thread David Kalnischkies
That used to be a shortcoming in apt-file, not a problem of apt-
transport-tor (or any other transport as apt-file was using its own
implementation). An apt-file release changing to utilizing apt for
downloads (which in turn would us a-t-t then) was released as version
3.0, released on 28 Feb 2016 (aka months before this report). I guess it
missed the LTS deadline – perhaps there is a backport available if you
need it to work.

In any case, this isn't a bug in apt-transport-tor hence closing as
invalid.

[Bug 1659824] Re: screen-shot-record.html is inaccurate

2017-01-28 Thread Chris Perry
Hi Gunnar, I'm running 16.04. My points simply relate to terminology.
The window has the title "Screenshot" so surely it doesn't make sense
for the page to say "In the Take Screenshot window ..."?

I always try to use the terminology used by the GUI. Here the GUI uses
"screen", which I think is OK. So surely it's not a good idea for the
page to use "desktop" in step 2 - with no mention of "screen".

In my opinion these confusions over terminology make the page more
difficult to read.

} else {

}

Somehow the value at the *(_v16 + 220) in this routine is zero and the
program is quitting before _LMssp_Send_LMP_DH_Key_Check() is reached.
This is not the case on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 where it is pairing. I
would be interested how it is on Ubuntu 12.10. You will need a BT V4
device in order to pair with simple secure mode and reach this routine.

The decompiled file is provided in the earlier post.

[Bug 1660027] [NEW] Kernel Problem: Incorrectly detected the touchpad in Acer Aspire E5-574

2017-01-28 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

I have a Acer Aspire E5-574-592s and my touchpad is not working with
Ubuntu 16.04.

I followed this procedure:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#generalinfo

Section: "In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from
the Touchpad)"

I checked by connecting an external mouse to see if that works or not.
And it worked.

So I followed the step 2: If yes, execute at a terminal:

[Bug 1660031] [NEW] upgrade renders firefox unusable

2017-01-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I just apt-upgraded a 16.04 machine to the latest packages, which
rendered firefox unusable. The firefox gui appears, but it does not show
contents of webpages, refuses a login to an unencrypted (still secure
because tunneled) webpage and blasts trillions of messages like

 [ 691.871185] audit: type=1400 audit(1485603229.158:2983):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mknod"
profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.fHVuSZ" pid=6325 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

into the log. Looks like wrong or outdated apparmor settings keep firefox from
running properly.

[Bug 1654624] Re: dhcp apparmor profile complains about lxd client

2017-01-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
> Removing the LXD task, this is yet another apparmor bug from the apparmor
> stacking/namespacing change which was backported to Xenial.

Well, that explains a lot. 16.04 was formerly stable but recently began to
drive me crazy because of so many apparmor problems with almost every major
daemon or browser, and an aa-notify which just vomates hundreds of messages
onto the desktop faster than one can click them away.

I am not an apparmor expert, but was able to deal with it for years, but
suddenly have the problem that adding permissions to the local-files for
local extensions does not solve problems as expected.

I think it is not overestimated to say that this apparmor thing broke
the usability of 16.04.

What in the world was the reason to backport these problems into a
stable release?

[Bug 1660032] [NEW] package software-center 16.01+16.04.20160420 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2017-01-28 Thread Malcolm Boura
Public bug reported:

New installation of 16_04 LTS. Almost nothing extra installed. From memory just
gimp, gdebi and meld.
software-center would start but could not find or install anything because just

Reinstalled - did not fix it.
Tried changing language as suggested on forum.
Deleted /var/cache and reinstalled - hung the computer, GUI completely
unresponsive.
Power cycled.
software-center now working and I was able to install dropbox successfully.

[Bug 1654624] Re: dhcp apparmor profile complains about lxd client

2017-01-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
> Which are the perceivable consequences of this bug?

I currently cannot survey the consequences, since I am not familiar with
the recent semantic changes of apparmor (are there any docs? Any hints
to the users about changes? Any release notes?)

For some time now I am spending and wasting lots of time to hunt bugs in
all sorts of software like firefox, chromium, ejabberd, lxd,... which is
all caused by sudden apparmor trouble.

A side effect of all these bugs is that log files (and desktops through
aa-notify) are flooded with hundres, thousands, millions of log messages, which
jams a system and makes it impossible to find really important log messages,
and, btw., can ruin flash memory in SSDs and SD-Cards within short time.

Why on earth has one backported this pile of bugs into a LTS version?

This rendered Ubuntu so unreliable, that I have to consider to change to
CentOS or something like this for servers in order to get SELinux
instead.

Is there any way to get 16.04 stable again?

BTW: How should I answer the question about the consequences of the bug,
if I don't see any docs about was has changed with apparmor?

[Bug 1660031] Re: upgrade renders firefox unusable

2017-01-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1660031/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I have a Acer Aspire E5-574-592s and my touchpad is not working with

  I followed this procedure:

Section: "In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from

I checked by connecting an external mouse to see if that works or not.
  And it worked.

[Bug 1586625] Re: Update notification but no update manager icon in launcher ?

2017-01-28 Thread Coeur Noir
** Description changed:

  Hi,

  Ubuntu 16.04 here w/ Unity

I sometimes have some notification about available update for my system.

But icon for update manager never automatically shows in launcher - as it
used to in previous ubuntu version. (a green background icon with an A on)
→ screenshot of expected behavior http://hpics.li/4fb6d59

After seeing the update notification in 16.04 one has to manually run
  update-manager or synaptic.

  Is this intended behavior ?

  Illustrations & examples ( french ) :

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1989947

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1992529

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21550359#p21550359

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21554415#p21554415

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21576223#p21576223

  _

More than 3 months later can someone tell at least if this was intended
behavior ?
  _

Notifications spring and vanish so it's very easy for users not to see them
and then run a non-updated system for long… It's a basic security matter.
  _

  2016-11-24 other example https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1999705
where many computers remained NON-updated during months
  _

2016-11-26 that very same inefficient and misleading
  behaviour also happens in 16.10
  _

  2017-01-06 interesting hints there
  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21656378#p21656378
+ _
+
+ 2017-01-28 Today I've booted on my 16.04 I hadn't booted for at least 2
+ weeks, expecting some updates. After 2 hours running, absolutely no
+ warning any where about potential updates. So I ran synaptic and yes
+ many updates are available http://hpics.li/ca343ba

[Bug 1660031] Re: upgrade renders firefox unusable

2017-01-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Yup, looks related.

Firefox downloads pages and interpretes them (otherwise it could not complain
about a password automatically filled into a form on an unencrypted web site,
so it must have parsed the form), but displays just empty pages.

[Bug 1660040] [NEW] old-fashioned ufw structure reduces usability

2017-01-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

ufw makes it difficult to deploy firewall rules through management
systems like puppet, ansible or other scripts.

ufw has three points where to put rules in:

before.rules
user.rules
after.rules

the ufw command accepts only a very limited sort of rules, and user.rules
should not be used to deploy files, since user changes would be overwritten.

before.rules and after.rules could easily be used for that purpose, but
then the machine is cut from automated updates through apt, since apt
refuses (for good reason) to replace modified files in /etc.

It would be much better to have a directory like /etc/ufw/rules_v4.d ,
to put the old-fashioned three files into 20_before, 50_user and
70_after, and to execute all rules in this directory, thus allowing to
have additional rules in separate files.

regards

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 doesn't have a bluetooth driver

2017-01-28 Thread Jan Vodochalek
At the address 0x48615c I've got jump, so the memory at the address
(_v16 + 220) & 255) equals 0, which is wrong. This way we never reach
the _LMssp_Send_LMP_DH_Key_Check() routine.

I would need to trace this on Ubuntu 12.10 where is the pairing
successful.

I could nop-out the jump at the address 0x48615c and reach the
_LMssp_Send_LMP_DH_Key_Check(), but the comparison is done in the
_LMssp_Send_LMP_DH_Key_Check(), so the patch of rtbt was so far without
pairing.

[Bug 1659699] Re: Terminal constatly copies last row and adds it, every ~2 seconds

2017-01-28 Thread Miner
** Description changed:

I know this might not be the very best bug report you'll see here, but I
have no means to reproduce the problem now (reinstalled OS), and the
overall confusion may lead to the bug not being found for a long time.

  OS: Ubuntu Gnome 16.10

After upgrading the gnome desktop using commands mentioned here:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/625244/how-to-upgrade-to-the-latest-gnome-version

among many problems I encountered, one of the most incapacitating was the
terminal glitching out, just like in this tmux issue:
  https://github.com/tmux/tmux/issues/738

Back then I thought it is due to my configuration (I assign the blame
for everything to myself first, because I break things on a daily
basis...), so I reinstalled the OS and moved on with my life. After
noticing the above issue I thought I might post this here.

- Others pointed out that it is an issue with displaying UTF-9.0 double
- cell characters. The above behavior was observed while having things
- like powerline constantly updating it's row with those special
- characters. There is a clock section on the powerline, so that is where
- the 2s time interval might come from.

+ with those special characters. There is a clock section on the
+ powerline, so that is where the 2s time interval might come from.

  Things to notice:
- - It doesn't matter what is running inside the terminal. There is no
difference between vanilla Bash, zsh, or TMux sessions - all indicate the same
behavior. Reopening TMux also didn't change a thing.
- - SSH sessions made from another machine work perfectly fine.

... which leads me to believe it is a Gnome Terminal bug.

Again, sorry for a bug report that doesn't follow the guidelines.

[Bug 1660041] [NEW] wrong keyboard layout in gdm

2017-01-28 Thread Martial Saunois
Public bug reported:

Hello

GDM does not load my user preferences about my locale.
I have a french keyboard (layout fr, "azerty"), nicely configured in the Gnome
settings, but my layout is qwerty in GDM. I tried to create a xorg
configuration file
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Keyboard_configuration_in_Xorg#Using_X_configuration_files)

Is it a bug or a bad configuration?

[Bug 1659922] Re: Firefox 51.0.1 после обновления в Ubuntu 16.04 x32 не отображает содержимое сайтов

2017-01-28 Thread Sziráki Tamás
I think there is some conflict with AppArmor because set the AppArmor
profile of the Firefox in complain mode Firefox works well, but set it
in enforced mode it cannot write into 'owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}'
folder. My total paragraph for 'owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}':

# per-user firefox configuration
  owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}/ rw,
  owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}/** rw,
  owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}/**/*.{db,parentlock,sqlite}* k,
  owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}/plugins/** rm,
  owner @{HOME}/.{firefox,mozilla}/**/plugins/** rm,
  owner @{HOME}/.gnome2/firefox*-bin-* rw,

With the pre-51.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 FF it worked fine.

[Bug 1660043] [NEW] Existing terminator window gets focus when starting a new instance

2017-01-28 Thread Søren Holm
Public bug reported:

When terminator is started and another instance is running on another desktop
that instance gets focus and the VM switches to that desktop.

To reproduce :
1. start terminator on desktop 1
2. change to desktop 2
3. start a new terminator instance.

Actual result:
1. The desktop VM switches to dekstop 1 - first terminator isntace has focus.
2. switching back to desktop 2 the new terminator is actually started

Expected result.
1. The new terminator instance should start in desktop 2 and get focus.
2. No desktop switch should happen.

[Bug 1252121] Re: missing PrepareForSleep signal after resuming, causing networking to stay disabled

2017-01-28 Thread D J Gardner
I've recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04. In 12.04 all worked perfectly.
I see the same sort of thing as discussed. I attach a log from dbus-monitor.

PrepareForSleep True is sent, sleep state is never reached,
PrepareForSleep false is never sent

I have no problem suspend/hybernate via pm-suspend.

sudo /lib/systemd/systemd-sleep suspend
also works fine for suspend, hibernate and hybrid-sleep

systemd/network manager get in a mess. seemingly together (see test results
below)

Since I'm on 14.04, I don't have systemd-shim, so this seems to be a
systemd problem, not just -shim

I used to have tlp installed, but have purged it, and re-installed
systemd, the problem has not cleared.

Test results:

$ sudo gdbus call -y -d org.freedesktop.login1 -o /org/freedesktop/login1 -m
org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.Suspend true
>> network manager disables, no suspend

2nd call:
$ sudo gdbus call -y -d org.freedesktop.login1 -o /org/freedesktop/login1 -m
org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.Suspend true
Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.systemd1.LoadFailed: Unit
systemd-suspend.service failed to load: No such file or directory. See system
logs and 'systemctl status systemd-suspend.service' for details.

>> Network returns.

$ sudo gdbus call -y -d org.freedesktop.login1 -o /org/freedesktop/login1 -m
org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.Suspend true
>> network manager disables, no suspend

-
Test results2:

$ systemctl suspend

$ systemctl suspend
Failed to issue method call: Unit systemd-suspend.service failed to load: No
such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status

$ systemctl suspend

$ sudo systemctl status systemd-suspend.service
systemd-suspend.service

   Active: inactive (dead)

$ sudo nmcli nm sleep false
>> NM restarts, however, it is NOT as 'cleansing' as killing NM

language. (That is needet in every Internation Community) And start
demanding that the far bigger part of the community writes in there
language, even if they just could fix that by learning English in the
first place is really hard for me to understand. Im German too but i
would not demand from others to speak a language that is clearly not the
most spoken in the internet in any professional or most other
communitys. So please write with us in english and back to topic please :).

 SRU information
 ===

[Impact] It's not possible to install KDE and Unity in co-existence
because of several file conflicts: many files under
/usr/share/accounts/{providers,services}/ are provided by both the
package "kaccounts-providers" and packages build from the "account-
plugins" source package, for example 'account-plugin-facebook'.

[Test case] Install both kaccounts-providers and
account-plugin-facebook: you'll get file conflicts for
 /usr/share/accounts/services/facebook-im.service and
 /usr/share/accounts/providers/facebook.provider.
You might get other conflicts as well, but those are due to bug

 (also nominated for SRU).

[Regression potential] Minimal: the changed packages belong to the
default KDE installation, and have already landed in Yakkety. Things
appear to be working fine there: account creation is still possible
under KDE, even after changing the file paths as per this fix.

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 doesn't have a bluetooth driver

2017-01-28 Thread Blaze
So my basic theory is: LM_Find_Link_Table_Entry() is trying to read
something (link table) from efuse data and when the data is malformed
LMssp_LM_User_Confirmation_Request_Reply() fails. Now it's only left to
find out why is the data malformed.

2017-01-28 Thread Blaze
How about to try compiling the driver with an ancient gcc version
(4.5.3)?
