[Bug 1648312] Re: short swipe on spread gesture

2016-12-08 Thread Kris
** Summary changed:

- discovered an unintentional extra feature in the spread aka task switcher
+ short swipe on spread gesture

** Description changed:

- Using Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (r480) on Meizu MX4. The spread gesture is drag
- from the right edge to the left. Only today I was doing the gesture
- slowly only to discover, what I thought was an extra feature, in the
- windowed mode:
+ Using Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (r480) on Meizu MX4. The spread gesture is drag from
the right edge to the left. While I was working in windowed mode, I
+ only today learnt about the apparently long present short swipe function:

  the gesture, if only performed mid-way, and then discontinued, would
  execute a cross-fade transition between the current window and the next
  window in the z-order queue, and then switch to that window WITHOUT
  going to the full spread.

  Later I tried to reproduce only to learn that it is not easy, because
  the gesture has to be discontinued very very precisely, otherwise the
- full spread mode will kick in. Obviously now, I understand that this is
- not really a feature, rather an undocumented behavior of sort. But I
- like it.
+ full spread mode will kick in.

- Perhaps this could be tuned, to the point where it can become an ACTUAL
- feature, that users could take advantage of?
+ "Obviously now, I understand that this is not really a feature, rather an
undocumented behavior of sort. But I like it.
+ Perhaps this could be tuned, to the point where it can become an ACTUAL
feature, that users could take advantage of?"
+ UPDATED: been informed (see coments) that this is actually a feature, so,
+ I'd like to file a bug: the supposed feature is VERY hard to execute, most of
attempts end up not executing it at all, because it apparently requires a VERY
precise pint in which the gesture has to be stopped in order to be recognized
as the short swipe.

  Attached is me trying to capture the scenario on camera.

[Bug 1648337] [NEW] There's no way to launch terminal tab under chosen profile

2016-12-08 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 14.04, gnome-terminal had menu item, allowing to launch
terminal tab using selected profile (from File menu). Thus one can
quickly organize tabs as I wish.

In Ubuntu 16.04, latest update, gnome-terminal has lost (among other
features, compared to 14.04) this menu item. I can only open new
terminal with new profile.

This menu item should definitely be restored.

[Bug 1646608] Re: SRU 0.12 tracking bug

2016-12-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-image - 0.12+16.04ubuntu1

---
ubuntu-image (0.12+16.04ubuntu1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * SRU tracking bug LP: #1646608
  * Revert previous change which sorted structure volumes by their
offset. Instead, we preserve gadget.yaml order for purposes of
partition numbering, but we still provide implicit offsets when they
are missing, and we still sanity check for partition overlap.
(LP:1642999)
  * Provide human-readable error messages on gadget.yaml parser failures,
not Python tracebacks (unless --debug is given). (LP:1617421)
  * Change the way we invoke the autopkgtests.
- Use a standard d/t/control file instead of d/t/control.autodep8. We
  were only using the Python 3 import test anyway.
- Add an import.sh stanza to reproduce the Python 3 import bits we
  lost by removing autodep8.
- Turn the `tox -e coverage` Test-Command into a separate test
  script so that we can manipulate the $UBUNTU_IMAGE_CODENAME
  environment variable. This is used by tox.ini to select an
  appropriate *-coverage.ini file since Xenial does not and cannot
  cover certain code paths. Everything after Xenial gets named 'devel'.
- Narrow the dependencies so that they aren't just importing all
  binary packages. The effects may be similar, but EIBTI.
  * d/control: Drop Testsuite header; we're not doing autodep8 anymore.
  * Rename the environment variable $UBUNTUIMAGE_MOCK_SNAP to
$UBUNTU_IMAGE_MOCK_SNAP for consistency.
  * Skip some tests which touch the actual store when running without
network access (e.g. during package build time).
  * Move the __version__ calculation to the package's __init__.py
  * Parse all YAML integer-like values as strings, and then turn them into
integers if necessary during post-processing. (LP:1640523)
  * gadget.yaml files can include an optional `format` key which names the
version number supported by the gadget.yaml. Currently only format 0
is supported, which is a legacy version (omitting the format is
equivalent).  (LP:1638926)
  * d/control: Add run-time dependencies which are missing from snapd but
are required for `snap prepare-image`.  (LP:1642427)
  * Structures with type='mbr' are deprecated. Use structure role
instead.  (LP:1638660)
  * mbr structures must start at offset 0. (LP:1630769)
  * Fixed sanity checking of --image-size argument for out-of-offset-order
structure definitions.  (LP:1643598)
  * Prevent wrapping blobs in disk partitions by using the `type: bare`
structure key.  (LP:1645750)

2016-12-08 Thread Tim Wahrendorff
The bug still occures within my machine. Wlan can not connect to WPA2
Enterprise. I got lots of "Unencrypted private keys are not secure."-
messages, though my private key is encrypted. Network-manager is version
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.

[Bug 1384342] Re: kernel messages intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips correlate to compiz hang

2016-12-08 Thread Laurent Bonnaud
Here is another data point:
 - kernel: linux-image-4.8.12-040812-generic (Ubuntu mainline kernel)
 - CPU/GPU : Core i7-2640M

This kind of event is quite rare with mainline kernels (I cannot say the
same of Ubuntu kernels and that's why I use mainline kernels).

[Bug 1643200] Re: After updating to firefox 50.0, tab goes black instead of showing web pages

2016-12-08 Thread Nik Mitev
Hi,

I had the same issue, and 'ubuntu modifications' did resolve it so
thanks!

A couple of things to add in case they help:

For me the issue was not triggered by the update itself, but by me
disabling an addon I had installed. Removing or reinstalling/reenabling
the addon after that made no difference. What did help (temporarily) was
removing all profiles.

If Firefox could find no saved profiles when it launches, it worked -
until the next restart of course, because then a profile was already saved.
As for your workaround (thanks again), I'll only add it is a
'recommended package' for me, I cannot install it from within Firefox.
Once installed with 'apt-get install xul-ext-ubufox' it appears as an
installed extension and can be disabled (didn't try) from within Firefox.

Regards,
Nik Mitev

[Bug 1450308] Re: libzend-framework-php needs update is not compatible to php 5.6

2016-12-08 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Note that Ubuntu >= 16.04 only has PHP7.0. Given that, I think we can
possibly only fix this in Trusty (at least that would be the priority).
However, we might want to be sure that zend-framework also does work in
Xenial (not hitting this bug). In 17.04, I am working on fixing this
properly.

[Bug 1648292] Re: Running Mir-Server snap, gives error! [Unknown command line options: --vt 1]

2016-12-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK in that case I can't tell what's going wrong. We'll need to look at
(or ask the creator of) the snap itself.

The bug can probably stay incomplete because there's not yet sufficient
evidence that this is a bug in Mir at all. Perhaps just a bug in the
snap definition.

[Bug 1626972] Re: QEMU memfd_create fallback mechanism change for security drivers

2016-12-08 Thread Antonio Messina
Hi all,

I am facing this issue too, and although I can confirm the patch can be
easily backported to Trusty (we run Mitaka on Trusty), some of our
customers have VMs started with the old qemu and I cannot live migrate
anymore or update qemu without stopping and starting the VM.

Do you have any suggestion on how to allow the live migration of VMs
currently running with qemu pre-patch and kernel 3.13?

Thank you in advance

[Bug 1348384] Re: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background

2016-12-08 Thread Brian Murray
Hello John, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libspectre into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libspectre/0.2.7-2ubuntu1.2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1648312] Re: short swipe on spread gesture

2016-12-08 Thread Michał Sawicz
Why do you file every single bug under ubuntu-keyboard?

If in doubt, file here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/

In any case, we've been testing the threshold to only trigger the short
swipe a lot, it may need some getting used to, but it's always a
compromise between this and the long version being too difficult.

[Bug 1648295] Re: Merge 0.0.8-2.2 from Debian Sid

2016-12-08 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Dropping those changes is tricky, and at the very least requires adding
a Conflict on the library package against the v5 version.

Personally I think it's easier/safer to just carry on with this; it
would have been better to do this change in Debian by means of a NMU
(the package looks unmaintained anyway..).

[Bug 1609475] Re: Recovery mode won't allow recovery after manually installing the OS incorrectly

2016-12-08 Thread Brian Candler
BTW, I reproduced the same problem in a different (and arguably more
realistic) scenario:

- install ubuntu 16.04
- configure networking with a bridge interface but a port member that doesn't
exist when you next boot up (e.g. make br0 with a member which is a USB
ethernet adapter, and then remove the USB adapter)
- reboot - you find it hangs for about 6 minutes
- so you decide to reboot again, and go into recovery mode to fix the
networking config

Then you get the same as described before: you get a recovery shell
which works for a few minutes, but then systemd continues with the
bootup and blats over the recovery shell with a new session, making the
system unusable.

[Bug 1648312] Re: short swipe on spread gesture

2016-12-08 Thread Kris
** Description changed:

  Using Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (r480) on Meizu MX4. The spread gesture is drag from
the right edge to the left. While I was working in windowed mode, I
  only today learnt about the apparently long present short swipe function:

  the gesture, if only performed mid-way, and then discontinued, would
  execute a cross-fade transition between the current window and the next
  window in the z-order queue, and then switch to that window WITHOUT
  going to the full spread.

  Later I tried to reproduce only to learn that it is not easy, because
  the gesture has to be discontinued very very precisely, otherwise the
  full spread mode will kick in.

  ORIGINAL: "Obviously now, I understand that this is not really a feature,
rather an undocumented behavior of sort. But I like it.
  Perhaps this could be tuned, to the point where it can become an ACTUAL
feature, that users could take advantage of?"

  UPDATED: been informed (see coments) that this is actually a feature, so,
  I'd like to file a bug: the supposed feature is VERY hard to execute, most of
attempts end up not executing it at all, because it apparently requires that
the gesture be stopped at a VERY precise point in order to be recognized as the
short swipe, and not a long swipe.

  Attached is me trying to capture the scenario on camera.
+ It's like there is only one specific Y value, that only if you stop your
gesture at that position, it will actually be recognized as the short swipe.
Very difficult to do.

+ Actually seems like 2 such sweet spots (Y values) exist: one very very close
to the edge (so swipe is super short), and another kind of exactly precisely in
the middle of the screen. Attached video shows the latter one.

[Bug 1648312] Re: short swipe on spread gesture

2016-12-08 Thread Michał Sawicz
Kris, you really want to do a very short swipe, within 20% of the screen
width, to trigger the short gesture. Trying here on my krillin, I have
maybe 95% percent success rate.

You can actually see exactly where the threshold is by dragging the app
very slowly - the moment the bottom app starts shrinking is when you

[Bug 1648380] Re: cloud-init fails to find CloudSigma datasource with cloud-init 0.7.8-1-g3705bb5-0ubuntu1

ok, while my previous analysis was correct, the first stage runs
correctly w/o finding a DataSource (at least it looks like it).

But when it runs the init-network phase, things seem to go badly :

[Bug 1648380] [NEW] cloud-init fails to find CloudSigma datasource with cloud-init 0.7.8-1-g3705bb5-0ubuntu1

2016-12-08 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

[SRU justification]
Without this fix, images built with cloud-init 0.7.8-1-g3705bb5-0ubuntu1 and
later will not correctly boot and become unreachable

[Impact]
Some cloud images built with this version of cloud-init may become unusable

[Fix]
Reinstate the second element of the datasources list as a tuple instead of a
string.

[Test Case]
This test must be done on CloudSigma to complete correctly :

Build cloud image with only the CloudSigma datasource using cloud-init version
0.7.8-1-g3705bb5-0ubuntu1 or later
Launch an instance with this image
The instance will boot but will not be accessible through ssh

With this fix,the instance will complete its boot sequence and be
accessible through ssh

[Regression]
None expected, the second element was a tuple in previous versions of the
CloudSigma datasource

[Description of the problem]
The issue materialized itself on cloud instances launched with such images that
became unreachable through SSH with the following message:

"Connection closed by {IP} port 22"

[Bug 1648380] Re: cloud-init fails to find CloudSigma datasource with cloud-init 0.7.8-1-g3705bb5-0ubuntu1

2016-12-08 Thread Louis Bouchard
Here is what I have found :
This seems suspect to me :

Nov 21 10:12:33 ubuntu [CLOUDINIT] __init__.py[DEBUG]: Looking for for data
source in: ['CloudSigma'], via packages ['', 'cloudinit.sources'] that matches
dependencies ['FILESYSTEM']
Nov 21 10:12:33 ubuntu [CLOUDINIT] __init__.py[DEBUG]: Searching for local data
source in: []

There is no local data source returned and this is what will later
trigger the python backtrace.

The message "Looking for for data source in" comes from list_sources().

list_sources(cfg_list, depends, pkg_list)
cfg_list = ['CloudSigma']
depends = ['FILESYSTEM']

Down in list_source we have :
for m_loc in m_locs:
 mod = importer.import_module(m_loc)
lister = getattr(mod, "get_datasource_list")
matches = lister(depends)
if matches:
break
return src_list

lister is defined as get_datasource_list(depends) that does
return sources.list_from_depends(depends, datasources)

list_from_depends() does :
def list_from_depends(depends, ds_list):
ret_list = []
depset = set(depends)
for (cls, deps) in ds_list:
if depset == set(deps):
 ret_list.append(cls)
return ret_list

ds_list being datasources which is :
datasources = [
(DataSourceCloudSigma, (sources.DEP_FILESYSTEM)),
]
and sources.DEP_FILESYSTEM == 'FILESYSTEM'

depset will be :
depset = {'FILESYSTEM'}

deps being sources.DEP_FILESYSTEM, so = 'FILESYSTEM'
set(deps) = {'I', 'Y', 'M', 'T', 'L', 'S', 'F', 'E'} !!!

so if depset == set(deps): is false, hence returns nothing.

Now I don't yet know what changed that makes that test fail

[Bug 1648295] Re: Merge 0.0.8-2.2 from Debian Sid

2016-12-08 Thread Steve Langasek
The corresponding Debian bug for the ABI change is Debian bug #791040.
This was closed by the Debian release team on the grounds that there was
no package depending on the library in the Debian archive. There also
isn't one in Ubuntu.

It is best to revert the ABI change to match Debian, but we will need to
carry a delta to handle the Conflicts/Replaces back against the Ubuntu-
renamed package and carry this delta through 18.04.

FYI (status update) - I Got to that on merging latest Strongswan, I think it is
working pretty well.
The only dependencies left from that are to base charon which makes sense - no
cross refs to other plugins. Given that my reviewer agrees that this is a sane
change I hope to put it in the zesty release.
