[Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2016-11-06 Thread Igor Djuric
Dear Jean, could you please describe how to successfully __downgrade__
driver from 304.132 to the previous version 304.131.

I've tried everything I could find on the web, at no avail. For example,
directly running the NVIDIA-*.run file didn't succeed as some remnants
of nouveau driver were present, or so.

Thank you in advance!!

[Bug 1604397] Re: [SRU] python-swiftclient is missing in requirements.txt (for glare)

2016-11-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Dmitry, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-glance-store into yakkety-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/python-glance-store/0.18.0-0ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2016-11-06 Thread Paul Eggert
I also observed the problem on my desktop running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
x86. lspci | grep VGA reports "02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA
Corporation C77 [GeForce 8300] (rev a2)". I am attaching
/var/log/Xorg.1.log, which says "NVIDIA GPU GeForce 8300 (C77) at
PCI:2:0:0 (GPU-0)". This system worked fine with the previous 304xx
package. I have worked around the problem by dropping 304xx and using
Nouveau.

[Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2016-11-06 Thread Igor Djuric
Dear all, I am so glad I can post a solution (or at least workaround)
for this.

Instead of downgrading from 304.132 to the previous version 304.131,
I've followed the suggestion on
http://askubuntu.com/questions/845632/nvidia-304-132-driver-update-wont-
boot and checked which nVidia driver version should be compatible with
my graphic card at http://www.geforce.com/drivers.

It came out that I should install version 340.98, which I did and
subsequently were able to login into my user session again.

Just why Ubuntu 16.04 LTS automatic upgrade mechanism thinks my nVidia
8600 GT graphic card should work with version 304 of these drivers is
probably due to some misconfiguration bugs or similar.

[Bug 1618839] Re: Regression: WiFi connection reconnects, but dead, after waking from standby

2016-11-06 Thread Benjamin Schmid
Same issue here after upgrading from xenial 16.04 to yakkety 16.10:
After standby I can ping valid IP addresses, but DNS fails. Restarting
the network manager via ` sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart` does
mend the situation.

In this SO post https://askubuntu.com/q/837575/94728 people report the
same issue. A answer proposes to disable dnsmasq in network manager by
commenting out `dns=dnsmasq` in
`/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf`as workaround.

[Bug 1639543] [NEW] Please show friendly message instead of getty when only ssh login is possible

2016-11-06 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

When a user was created via console-conf the only possible way to login
is via ssh initially. But after console-conf has finished it shows a
getty. This leads to some confusion.

I think we should not show a getty unless there is password set for any
of the extrausers.

I pushed a draft for this to
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/292374541/subiquity_0.0.23~16.04~ppa1_0.0.23~16.04~ppa2.diff.gz
- it misses that console-conf after finishing returns to a getty but its
a start :)

We should also probably improve the message, i.e. display what IP to
connect to, what user, possible what keys to use and how to set a
password.

[Bug 1639544] [NEW] mpd ignores the "port" in config by default

2016-11-06 Thread Antti Laiti
Public bug reported:

mpd ignores the "port" and port section in "listen_to_address" in
configuration file by default, listens always to port 6600 and fails to
tell user about the situation. If I have 'bind_to_address
"192.168.0.1:16600"' or 'port "16600"' (or both) in my /etc/mpd.conf,
mpd just ignores them and listens to default port (6600).

# lsof|grep mpd|grep TCP
mpd 20791 mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
io20791 20793mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
player20791 20794mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
decoder:f 20791 20795mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
output:Al 20791 20796mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)

This is the only related thing I found from /var/log/mpd/mpd.log:
Nov 06 09:47 : zeroconf: No global port, disabling zeroconf
Googling that actually lead me to an URL(1) containing a solution.

To workaround the situation, I did:
systemctl disable mpd.socket
systemctl enable mpd.service
systemctl restart mpd.service

I have no idea whether that is a ideal solution or if it breaks
somethinge else. Anyway, I think the "port" and "bind_to_address"
options should work out of the box. I am also confused by the fact that
the default port was used instead of the one I specified and no errors
were shown in systemd or mpd logs about this fallback. The only thing
that was perhaps somehow related was this zeroconf thing. Example config
is attached.

[Bug 1631241] Re: Name resolution stops working after resume from suspend

2016-11-06 Thread Dominik
I have the same problem, but only some dns queries stop working. For
instance, google.com works fine, while duckduckgo.com doesn't.

When trying to ping a server that doesn't work, it fails immediately
with the message (translating from Polish, sorry): This name or service
is unknown.

I have seen workarounds like restarting dnsmasq, or disabling it in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf, but these don't work for me.
What works is doing dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf.

[Bug 1639555] [NEW] Same Indicator Icon for "Networking on" and "Ethernet Network on"

2016-11-06 Thread Sven R. Kunze
Public bug reported:

Coming from 14.04, I was used to see a difference between "no connection
at all" and "wired connection".

As of Ubuntu 16.04, the indicator icons are the same for "wired
connection" and "networking on but no connection at all". Working in Web
Development, this not-difference already proved to be confusing, when I
had no Ethernet connection but the icons suggests that I am online.

Do you think you could either be changed back OR provide two different
indicator icons for "wired on" and "networking on but offline"?

There is no guarantee that the boot process works the next time (so I
have to try several times).

A workaround is to boot into recovery mode and continue from there
(works always).

I have tested the videocard with macOS and the card is reported to work
fine (several times).

This behaviour is new to 16.10 (nvidia-367, proprietary, tested). It
does not occur using the X.Org Nouveau driver (this one is just dead
slow and does not work well with presentation equipment).

[Bug 1639560] [NEW] linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

2016-11-06 Thread Christian George
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When using kernel linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic 4.8.0-26.28 and after
applying latest available updates, the system randomly freezes/hangs and
a forced shutdown is required. It can be easily reproduced by trying to
press the "logout" button. The system would immediately hang.

Reverting to previous kernel, 4.8.0-22.24 fixes the issue.

My hardware is a Dell XPS 13 laptop, model 9343. It has the Intel HD
graphics card, using i915 module.

Description:Ubuntu 16.10
Release:16.10

Thanks!

Not probably, definitely. The SONAME rename and such need to be
reintroduced, and everything that was built with a dependency on
libssl1.0.2 needs a rebuilt to get back to 1.0.0

[Bug 1639568] [NEW] dnsmasq not updated by NetworkManager on system resume

2016-11-06 Thread BigBubba65
Public bug reported:

When the system resumes after sleep dnsmasq is either not updated with
new dns information of never resumes operation. Restarting the network-
manager service will manually resolve the problem. Everything else
seems correct, the DHCP information is correct and shows the correct
nameservers, resolv.conf is updated correctly. I am unable to determine
if the issue is with dnsmasq not resuming or if the dbus message with
the name servers is getting lost.

[Bug 1638131] Re: Resume fails while on battery

2016-11-06 Thread Attila Szász
Update:

I noticed that after the system hangs (e.g. plugging in a HDMI device
while on battery), upon subsequent restarts the system fails to resume
on battery, no matter what kernel I load.

Once I fully shutdown and cold start, resume starts to work.
As if it has to do with some internal state loaded on warm boot?

[Bug 722370] Re: segfault when using the "up" key

2016-11-06 Thread Enno
I get this same bug on Raspbian with jumpnbump 1.51, and it goes away when
running the game with -nosound. I suspect the error is not just with Ubuntu,
then?
Interesting to see that it happens on Ubuntu, if I can reproduce it, I might
have better luck debugging it than I have had so far.

[Bug 1509562] Re: no icons for menu, folders, directories, files

2016-11-06 Thread astroboy
In my case, using Bodhi Linux 4.0, the solution was installing kde-
config-gtk-style and libqt5libqgtk2, AS WELL AS adding the line
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=gnome to /etc/environment. Without that line, did
not matter to have those two packages installed. I did not have to
install systemsettings package because the Moksha desktop includes a
config app to choose the main icon set.

[Bug 1602888] Re: Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

2016-11-06 Thread filsd
Hi!

I have this Laptop (i5 model) and I bought it from Dell (Brazil) already with
Ubuntu (14.04) certified.
Using the Dell tools I can make an ISO of this version.

I have been using this version of Ubuntu for months now and it doesn't
have any problems. ANY. (I even updated the Nvidia drivers using a PPA,
it works!).

Are any of you interested in this ISO? I can upload it for you to
download (using wetransfer or something). It could help to find the real
issues.

It has something to do with the NVIDIA driver that has just been updated.

No, all of those packages are correct. But you should not have been
installing any of them; to install these, you must have had yakkety-proposed
enabled, which is not a safe target for dist-upgrading to.

They *are* released at the same time. And none of these packages have been
released yet: they are all still staged in yakkety-proposed.

[Bug 1606078] Re: No sound with Ubuntu 16.04

2016-11-06 Thread Darkwarfighter
Same problem here on my Asus EeePC 1015px on Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1.
After a clean O.S installation the speakers worked for few days, but today I
found that I got this issue also.
I can confirm that using headphones the sound is properly reproduced.
The operating system has all the updates available to 2016/11/06 installed.

Another strange thing I noticed is that the alert volume bar keeps
returning at lowest position at every reboot, no matter if I pull it up;
please check the attached image.

I also booted a live Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1 (from the usb flash disk I used
to install the O.S few days ago) and I'm still unable to play sound from
speakers.

Here's all entries I found in syslog after boot regarding the audio

[Bug 1639516] Re: grub no longer detects the internal storage device as bootable

2016-11-06 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
The problem reappeared this morning. This time in Boot Repair I tried
repairing things one by one, so to figure out exactly what was wrong.

When I simply reinstalled GRUB that didn't fix the problem, but
reinstalling it using an upgraded version did.

[Bug 1631038] Please test proposed package

2016-11-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted juju-core into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-
core/2.0.0-0ubuntu0.16.10.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Thank you in
advance!

2016-11-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Nicholas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted juju-core into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-
core/2.0.0-0ubuntu0.16.10.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1639516] Re: grub no longer detects the internal storage device as bootable

** Description changed:

I just switched my computer on, and grub shown this error:

  Entering rescue mode

From that point my computer was no longer usable, and I did nothing for

Further investigation shown that the "/boot/grub/linux.mod" file was no

2016-11-06 Thread Urs Mueller
There is already a bug filed with debian.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=822444

Seems that the problems is due to switching to systemd and false
settings within the start of clamav.

>From the bug report above:

/lib/systemd/system/clamav-daemon.service

Change ExecStart to:
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/clamd -c /etc/clamav/clamd.conf --foreground=true

Add:
User=clamav
Group=clamav

Bug on debian is closed an a fixed clamav-package should be available!
But also to ubuntu?

[Bug 1639589] [NEW] kdenlive crashed with SIGSEGV in QObject::setProperty()

2016-11-06 Thread Andrea Lazzarotto (Lazza)
Public bug reported:

am encountering this crash while trying to start Kdenlive.

I do not know if it is related, but the same problem happens with
OpenShot (although the latter is not in the repositories) so the issue
might be with Qt5 and not specifically with Kdenlive.

[Bug 728525] Re: benchmark window is not descriptive enough

2016-11-06 Thread xennex82
I have no clue, or I had no clue whether it was destructive or not. I
still don't know.

Actually it seems to have just wiped my partition table.

There was a GPT partition table on there and it is gone.

It tells you to back up your data but that is a warning given by many
programs that are not destructive in the slightest (except if you mess
up).

So why doesn't it just tell you it will destroy stuff? It might just as
well write and then write back the original data, or actually write the
original data in the first place, we can't tell.

[Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2016-11-06 Thread Jean Christophe André
In my case I have a GeForce 6150SE so I really need this 304.131 and
can't higher version like 340.xx.

For people needing to downgrade, this is one (among others) correct way to do
so with Ubuntu 16.04:

- first create a file named /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks
with the following content:

Explanation: block this specifique update because of OpenGL problem with 304.132
Package: nvidia-304
Pin: version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
Pin-Priority: -10

Explanation: block this specifique update because of OpenGL problem with 304.132
Package: nvidia-opencl-icd-304
Pin: version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
Pin-Priority: -10

- then reinstall the working old packages (they are still available in
the repository):

sudo apt install nvidia-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 nvidia-opencl-
icd-304=304.131-0ubuntu3

- finally, reboot your computer (because it also affects the initrd boot
image)

The previous way only blocks the currently known not working version, without
blocking future updates.

If you want a way to stay at the known working version without further
updates, here is the content you should use for your
/etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks:

Explanation: do not use any other version than this one, ever (priority 1001
will ensure that)
Package: nvidia-304
Pin: version 304.131-0ubuntu3
Pin-Priority: 1001

Explanation: do not use any other version than this one, ever (priority 1001
will ensure that)
Package: nvidia-opencl-icd-304
Pin: version 304.131-0ubuntu3
Pin-Priority: 1001

[Bug 1584475] Re: No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

2016-11-06 Thread Davidian1024
I think this bug is affecting me as well. I am also aware of two other
bug reports that sound related. Bug #1556444 and bug #1328065.

Skimming over the code in the patches I don't think those will work for
me. The code specifically looks for this identifier string "FutureMax
Dance Mat". My device reports itself with this string "RedOctane USB
Pad". So I think the code won't treat my device any differently than
the way it's being treated now.

So, I'm going to attempt to produce an actual patch from this and see if
it fixes my problem. Just wanted to drop this note here first and see
if anyone comments. I've never done this sort of thing to the kernel
code before so there's no telling how long this is going to take me.

[Bug 1639599] [NEW] Huawei E173 won't be switched to 'USB Modem' mode (1436).

2016-11-06 Thread Akbarkhon Variskhanov
Public bug reported:

Huawei E173 won't be switched automatically. The package is not
consistent. The modem has successfully been switched the first time I
plugged it in (as you can see here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/23437650/).
Subsequent plug-ins of the modem won't result in a successful mode-
switch (https://paste.ubuntu.com/23437624/). The only fix, which is
inconsistent as well, is to completely remove the packages, reboot,
reinstall them and plug the device back in. However, this is pretty
inconvenient.

[Bug 1639447] Re: phonon-backend-gstreamer should not depend *only* on pulseaudio

(v) gstreamer1.0-audiosink is already installed.

[Bug 1639604] [NEW] Pcitures have worng (and long expired) thumbnails

2016-11-06 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

I have shotwell showing a lot of wrong thumbnails. Many of the photos shown in

long time ago. Clicking these thumbnails reveals that they do not refer to the
picture shown, but a completely different one.

So the question is: How could the database get into that state, where pictures
in the library have wrong thumbnails (showing pictures long ago removed). This
state is very disturbing. How can it be fixed?
