[Bug 1599264] Re: [SRU] "When power is critically low" setting does nothing

2016-10-08 Thread Chris Perry
I think it should be straightforward for me to update the desktop help
(17.04). However, I need to check (in simple terms) what ubuntu now does
when the power gets low. When the battery gets to 10% ubuntu will
(attempt to) suspend? Is that correct? If the computer has problems
suspending ubuntu will not know that and will still (attempt to)
suspend? Is that correct? I'm asking because I'm planning to state what
happens in the desktop help. Here's the link for the current version of
the affected page:

[Bug 1532226] Re: No menu bar in gtk apps on fresh boot

2016-10-08 Thread Tony Flury
Ubuntu 16.04 - fully upto date with all updates.

Menus not visible on Terminal, but running

initctl restart unity-panel-service

definitely restores the missing menus.

I rarely use many other application - but I can confirm that Firefox
doesn't seem ever to loose it's menus.

If you need debug information please let me know.

[Bug 1629603] Re: Wifi stops working sporadically

2016-10-08 Thread drwt
Not a full bisection yet but I have narrowed it down:

I looked at all kernel versions that had changes committed to iwlwifi
and tested between them.

I now have determined that I do not have this issue in the kernel
version 4.4.4.

I do have the issue in 4.4.6 and that is the next kernel version that
has changes to iwlwifi so I guess that is the first bad version.

[Bug 1630702] Re: CVE-2016-8332 allows an out-of-bound heap write to occur resulting in heap corruption and arbitrary code execution

2016-10-08 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
I have just started working on applying the patches and making a debdiff
for openjpeg, however I have got a slight problem, none of the files I
am trying to patch seem similar enough in the 1.5.2 version to actually
be patched, I just can't find the right places to insert and remove the
code so I am really unable to do anything about the CVEs for this
version.

I am now going to have a go with openjpeg2 and see if the version you
have is similar enough to the upstream code.

[Bug 1505067] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4001nf] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller

2016-10-08 Thread Bastien
madbiologist: I'm currently running 4.4.0-38-generic and while sound is
working, it is not as loud an clear as in Windows, on the same device (I dual
boot).
Do you think that would be fixed with kernel 4.9 ?
I'm not sure to understand this "two speaker outputs" story. Does that mean
that the laptop has two physical sets of speakers but only one is activated on
current kernel ? That would explain the low volume.

[Bug 1533273] Re: My Nautilus stopped working

2016-10-08 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version.

The description of the bug is confusing. You have filed the bug against
evince but mention nautilus and "one of my files" in the bug
description.

If you are still experiencing this problem then please clarify what you
are seeing, thanks.

[Bug 1630459] Re: Ralink rt5390 unstable connection on ubuntu 16.04.1

2016-10-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Julio Palazón, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 4.4 to 4.8 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this good commit has been
identified, it may be reviewed for backporting. Could you please do this
following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has
been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1631600] [NEW] window contents scaling option per-display

2016-10-08 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

In the unity control center design panel, the window content scaling is
missing a very important option: "per-display"

Background:
My primary notebook display is a 4k monitor with high dpi. External monitors
are often only 1080p monitors. Because I can't scale the displays accordingly
to their dpi, windows on one display are very small and the other one are big.

Only offering effectively basically 3 options, biggest-control-area,
smallest-control-area and according-to-one-display is not enough. It is
much needed to be able to control the window scaling according to the
display it is currently in.

A window's anchor point should decide which scaling factor is applied.
This would not prevent falsely scaled windows to clip into other
displays, but it would be very much appreciated by multi monitor users.

Ubuntu version:
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

unity-control-center:
  Installiert: 15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1

[Bug 722910] Re: xz fails with hardlink errors on ntfs partition

2016-10-08 Thread xhienne
This is the normal (yet unexplained AFAIK) behavior of many compression
tools like gzip, bzip2 and xz, to refuse to compress a file with a link
count > 1, unless you give the --force option. The actual questions here
are "why do my NTFS files have a link count of 2?" (see
COMP6366_V01_02_15_2011.wmv in the OP) and "why does this link count
drop to 1 when I rename the file?"

This is due to the DOS name mangling system (see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filename_mangling and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.3_filename). When a file (say
"TextFile.Mine.txt") was copied on the NTFS partition with a 8.3 mangled
filename (say "TEXTFI~1.TXT"), then it is presented by the ntfs-3g
driver only once, in its long form. But the file continues to be
accessible by both names: "TEXTFI~1.TXT" (hidden) and
"TextFile.Mine.txt" (displayed). Hence the link count of 2, one for each
name. And this is also why the link count drops to 1 when you rename the
file: the mangled version disappear.

You may want to reassign this bug to the ntfs-3g package, arguing that
the link count should be 1. Personally I don't think this is an obvious
bad choice but others may disagree.

So, what else? Should we close this bug? Actually, I don't think so. I
think it should be renamed to "Gzip / bzip2 / xz refuse to compress
files with a link count > 1". As said above, I have yet to read a good
reason for gzip/bzip2/xz to _refuse_ to compress a file with more than
one hard link. Even with the --keep option! Why not just a mere warning?
Imposing a --force flag on e.g. script writers for the sole reason that
files may have many hard links, does not seem quite safe to me.

gzip is a very old program (25 years old?). My guess is that this is an
unfortunate legacy of a formerly legitimate behavior (for security
reasons for example?) which has absolutely no raison d'être nowadays.
bzip2 and xz have just blindly copied gzip's interface.

[Bug 1630399] Re: [Phone] Please enable opus audio codec support in qtmultimedia

2016-10-08 Thread Devid Antonio Filoni
I tested these packages using ~d.filoni/telegram-
app/audio_receiving_and_sending telegram-app branch (stable enough), it
doesn't work without opusdec support. The recorder settings are declared
in the following code
(telegram/app/qml/components/AudioRecordingBar.qml):

AudioEncoderSettings {
id: audioEncoderSettings
codec: "audio/x-opus"
sampleRate: 16000
channelCount: 1
}

The AudioEncoderSettings component is provided by AsemanAudioEncoderSettings
C++ class (parent class: QAudioEncoderSettings). The recorder component is
provided by AsemanAudioRecorder class which internally uses QAudioRecorder.
Aseman class files can be found in telegram/app/asemantools/ directory.

[Bug 1574120] Re: Notebook doesn't suspend when lid is closed after update to 16.04

2016-10-08 Thread StefanF
I have two different HP Notebooks where the suspend does not work on
closing the lid.

HP 635: Does not suspend but wakes up properly when open the lid.
HP 350 G1: Also does not suspend but wakes up properly when open the lid.

However, my Acer AO756 is not affected by the issue.

The HP635 worked fine initially after installing Ubuntu 16.04. The
problem has been introduced with any update. I cannot tell a date when
the problem started because I did not install any update on that machine
until today.

The other HP 350 G1 was used with Windows before, so I don't know how
that machine runs with the initial 16.04 release.

[Bug 1607390] Re: serious bug on bluetooth (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS)

2016-10-08 Thread Drael
I tested with the kernel 4.8.1 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and apparently the problem is
gone, but it looks like the bluez version on ubuntu 16.04 (bluez 5.37) Have
some trouble communicating with this kernel version.
I have to test with a newer version! For now I got some things working using
bluetoothctl.

[Bug 1629197] Re: Suspend not working

2016-10-08 Thread Slither
This issue didnt occur on an earlier kernel of never had an issue on
14.04 and an earlier kernel official of 16.04. I don't know which one.
I've only ever updated through the official ubuntu repos. After I
updated to kernel 4.4.0.38 I started having the suspend issue.

Trying to boot into all the old previously installed kernels via grub
didnt fix the issue. I also tried to uninstall the 4.4.0.38 and that
stuffed my install forcing me to boot from a 16.04 livecd and chroot my
os partion so I could update the kernel bandack to 4 4.0.38 and get it
booting again.

Right now I'm going between 4.4.0.38 from the ubuntu repos and whatever
upstream mainline kernel you suggest. One issue I noticed testing the
upstream kernels is the zfs kernel module doesn't load so i have to
rollback to 4.4.0.38 each time. A little annoying unfortunately.

Hope this helps.

I assume the problem is related to one of the ads, so this site may not
continue to cause the problem as the ads change over time.

In a few attempts, I was unable to reproduce this behavior with firefox.

[Bug 1340161] Re: brightness, contrast for Canon LIDE 110 not working

2016-10-08 Thread Jens Schröder
I'm using a Canon Lide 60 scanner in combination with Simple Scan 3.20.0 on
Xubuntu 16.04 .
Appearently someone mixed up the direction of the sliders, i.e. if you want to
scan darker you now have to move the slider towards "brighter". Same with
"contrast" and possibly "quality".

[Bug 1615575] Re: Emoji support

2016-10-08 Thread marmuta
Thanks for the quick response, Brad.

I agree, launchpad works quite well for us. There's not really much
pressure to move away, currently. Also, I feel, as long as Onboard is
installed by default in Ubuntu, we should stay close. The situation may
change with unity 8, we'll see.

Seems you were right, there's support for (what I believe is) Google's
CBLC/CBDT in freetype. I got this example here
https://gist.github.com/jokertarot/7583938
to render colored emoji from your emojione-android.ttf.
That could be a possible path forward. Don't know if this is accessible from
anywhere higher in the stack.

For SVGinOT there's just this bug report:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?46141

I'd still prefer SVG over png for Onboard, though, because most of the
UI is freely scalable. All the other images we use as key labels are SVG
too.

That's what we currently do, yes. If there's no reasonable way to get color,
we'll just wait for better times.

> Both of my fonts provide regular fallback non-color glyphs.
I've seen that the fonts-emojione Ubuntu package has gray-scale glyphs. Is that
a special version of your font or a fallback? They render fine in Onboard, btw.
