[Bug 1626564] Re: 4.8 regression: SLAB is being used instead of SLUB

On my Yakkety test Laptop, if I go back to kernel 4.4.0-9136-generic I can not
create the high number of kworker threads. If I boot with kernel
4.8.0-16-generic, I can create the high number of kworker threads, however it
is rather difficult.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1615204/+attachment/4747608/+files/hardware-specific_update.screenshot.png

** Description changed:

(also on Linux kernel bug tracker at
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153871)

  Detailed bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.04.1 [1] on the Toshiba Chromebook 1, if you try to select text
by word, by double-clicking/triple-touchpad-tapping and then dragging the
mouse, this only works occasionally. However, selecting text by line with a
triple-click/4-tap drag works fine. This bug does not appear when Ubuntu
16.04.1 is run in a VM in VirtualBox.
[1] and now Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux kernel
4.4.0-34-generic (the same as for 16.04)

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) On a 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (and possibly other machines, too),
run Ubuntu 16.04.1 from a boot disk
(http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso).
  2) Open a terminal window and type several words.
  3) Double-click/triple-touchpad-tap and then drag the mouse to attempt to
select multiple words.
  4) Compare this to the same boot disk run in VirtualBox, where it works
properly.
- 5) Compare this to Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux
kernel 4.4.0-34-generic, where it doesn't work.
+ 5) Compare this to Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux
kernel 4.4.0-34-generic (see comment #23 &
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1404_HWE_EOL), where it doesn't work.
  6) Compare this to the hardware-specific update but with Linux kernel
4.4.0-34-generic removed (downgraded to 3.16.0-77-generic), where it also
doesn't work (and is therefore not a kernel problem, but rather relates to
other files in the hardware-specific update).

  Expected results:
  Multiple words are selected.

  Actual result:
Only the first word is selected.

  Reproducibility:
Double-click drag-select will work occasionally, but most of the time it
doesn't.

  Workaround:
In applications other than Terminal, can use Ctrl+Shift+Right-Arrow to select
by word (significantly slower for large text blocks). No known workaround for
Terminal.

  Impact:
Recommend not upgrading to 16.04 if you have a computer where double-click
drag-select doesn't work in it.

  Description of the environment:
   Operation system: Ubuntu 16.04.1
Versions of components: Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic (also on Ubuntu
14.04.5)
Reference architecture: 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (model name
"Toshiba Leon")

[Bug 1367551] Re: [MIR] capnproto

2016-09-24 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed capnproto version 0.5.3-2ubuntu1 as checked into xenial. This
should not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- There are four CVEs: CVE-2015-2310 CVE-2015-2311 CVE-2015-2312 CVE-2015-2313
These were handled in what is perhaps the finest vendor response I've seen.

- capnproto is a serialization and RPC mechanism
- Build-Depends: debhelper, gcc, python-all, dpkg-dev, docbook-xsl,
  docbook-xml, xsltproc, dh-autoreconf, netbase
- capnproto does not itself daemonize
- No pre/post inst/rm scripts
- No initscripts
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- Binaries in path: capnp, capnpc-c++, capnpc-capnp, capnpc symlink
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- No cron jobs
- Small tests run during the build
- Clean build logs

- No subprocesses spawned
- Memory management is careful
- No file IO
- No logging
- No environment variables
- No privileged operations
- No cryptography
- Shockingly doesn't appear to do any networking
- I did not discover privileged portions of code
- No temporary files
- No WebKit
- No javascript
- cppcheck warnings were all false positives
- No PolicyKit

capnproto is highly complicated code; at one point, a comment even
indicates that it's roughly akin to the compiler or C library in intention
and complexity. It's also coded with clear discipline and all evidence
points to the author's obsession with writing good software.

Security team ACK for promoting capnproto to main.

Thanks

[Bug 1626721] Re: OwnCloud account does not accept IP address.

2016-09-24 Thread RobertZenz
Seems like I spoke too son, the URL is definitely tried:

qml: Trying host https://myserver/~myuser as :
qml: response:
qml: callback called: false

Seems like it's not receiving any answer, but I can guarantee that it is
accessible. Maybe it *is* my self-signed certificate which makes it
impossible for this to fetch?

On an unrelated note, I get a ton of those:

file:///usr/share/accounts/qml-plugins/owncloud/Main.qml:4:1: QML
Main: Binding loop detected for property "contentHeight"

Should I lock them as separate ticket?

[Bug 1627274] Re: kernek 4.4.0-39-generic crash my xps 13 dev.ed I had to return to the 38

2016-09-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1627274/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

@Rasool
@Mark

Could you please attach the /var/log/syslog file from your device to
this bug the next time this (alarm not going off) happens to you? It
could help us figure out what is going wrong.

@Mark

Could you please clarify if "this happened the morning before last" is
referring to your alarm not going off at all until you pressed the power
button? Unless I am misunderstanding, your comment seems to describe two
independent issues seen in two different occasions: 1. alarm not going
off at all 2. change in alarm sound not being applied

[Bug 1501572] Re: ubuntu will not start correctly

2016-09-24 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates.

However, you gave us no information about which version or flavour of
Ubuntu you were using at the time so I'm marking this bug report as
being "Incomplete".

Please feel free to add some version information to the bug report if
you are still seeing the problem and we can then reassign the report to
something other than "Ubuntu" if necessary.

[Bug 1627288] [NEW] Compose-key examples wrong

2016-09-24 Thread clissold345
Public bug reported:

In the 16.10 desktop help the examples of using the compose key seem to
be wrong since they don't indicate simultaneous key presses. Eg I think
the first example would be better written as "Press + ' then a
letter to place an acute accent over that letter, such as é." (Note: I
can't reproduce the desktop help formatting in this comment.) The user
presses ' while still holding down , releases both keys, and
then presses a letter.

[Bug 1627290] [NEW] Firefox 49+ multiprocess windows feature (e10s) is disabled by ubufox

2016-09-24 Thread Marcos Felipe Mello
Public bug reported:

Firefox 49+ enables e10s by default:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis

But Ubuntu's "Ubuntu Modifications 3.2" extension disables it. In about:support
output it says:

"Multiprocess Windows 0/1 (Disabled by add-ons)"

If we manually disable "Ubuntu Modifications" extension, it works:

"Multiprocess Windows 1/1 (Enabled by default)"

I am using Xubuntu 16.04, firefox 49.0+build4-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, xul-ext-ubufox

[Bug 1626180] Re: Desktop Apps scope hangs unity8-dash

2016-09-24 Thread Vladimir
Larry, thank you!

Unfortunately, I saw your message after I put comment #66 (it's
strange).

Check me please:

1. thees actions are absolutely not necessary:
# cd ~/.local/share/libertine
# rm ContainersConfig.json
# cp
/custom/click/.click/users/@all/com.ubuntu.puritine/libertine-config/libertine/ContainersConfig.json
 .

2. some records
/home/phablet/.local/share/libertine/ContainersConfig.json
could hangs "Desktop Scope Apps" and uniti8-dash

3. in my case to delete old my-container I should not use command
libertine-container-manager destroy
but roughly use:
rm -rf $HOME/.cache/libertine-container/my-container/

Larry and Kyle -- I thank you for help and spend time

Of course, I'll try to use freenode irc and askubuntu.com.

Questions are like this:

1. How to increase DPI of X app inside Libertine -- tick with
~/.local/share/libertine-container/user-data/my-container/.Xdefaults
(Xft.dpi: 224) does work with Geany and does not work Djview4

2. How to install Libertine container id SD Card, formatted in Ext4

and so on...

[Bug 1627292] [NEW] Latex otf fonts not available system wide

Public bug reported:

According to the documentation of texlive (see
https://www.tug.org/texlive/doc/texlive-en/texlive-
en.html#x1-340003.4.4), the installation of xetex should create a file
called `texlive-fontconfig.conf`, located in `TEXMFSYSVAR/fonts/conf

[Bug 1603729] Re: webapp option --enable-media-hub-audio breaks audio stream

2016-09-24 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Since OTA 13 this is even worse: now the webview of my webapp just crashes when
the audio playback starts.
Before there was no sound but it was possible to browse the website. Now there
is a white page with an error message and a refresh button.

As before, removing "--enable-media-hub-audio" fixes everything, except
(of course) that the app has to remain focused to continue streaming.

I tried to play around with alternate webapp containers, but without success.
Is there any known workaround? I'm getting bad reviews on my app because of
this bug…

[Bug 1626269] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-09-24 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From hbath...@in.ibm.com 2016-09-24 08:25 EDT---
Dump filtering for kernels v4.7+ is failing because of kernel commit
0139aa7b7fa1
which changed _count to _refcount in struct page. The below makedumpfile tool
commit fixes this:

commit 2c21d4656e8d3c2af2b1e14809d076941ae69e96
Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov
Date: Fri Jun 17 18:41:26 2016 +0900

[PATCH v2] Support _count -> _refcount rename in struct page
_count member was renamed to _refcount in linux commit 0139aa7b7fa12
("mm: rename _count, field of the struct page, to _refcount") and this
broke makedumpfile. The reason for making the change was to find all users
accessing it directly and not through the recommended API. I tried
suggesting to revert the change but failed, I see no other choice than to
start supporting both _count and _refcount in makedumpfile.
Signed-off-by: Vitaly Kuznetsov

[Bug 1627302] Crash report cannot be processed

2016-09-24 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

no debug symbol package found for libatk-adaptor
no debug symbol package found for libflac8

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

2016-09-24 Thread flocculant
A similar issue exists in Xubuntu.

Default xubuntu install however does not allow to resume a locked
session at all.

We've experimented with changing locker from light-locker to gnome-
screensaver and xscreensaver - when using gnome-screensaver we see the
same as with the Ubuntu issue.
