[Bug 1603611] Re: package libnspr4:amd64 2:4.12-0ubuntu0.15.10.1 failed to install/upgrade: package libnspr4:amd64 is already installed and configured

2016-07-31 Thread Matthew Watson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1407757 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1407757

Auto bug reporting led me here.

Updated to Kernel 4.2.0-42 from 0-36 and everything graphics related
went to #@&*. Constant spam of 'an error occurred' and attempting
anything with the package manager gets a lot more requests to submit bug
reports.

The core cause seems to be something related to nvidia drivers and that
kernel update although I am not sure on this. I don't know how they
might be related (perhaps the first graphics crash caused an
interruption to the package manager doing something important?)

Using nvidia drivers 352-63 on a GTX 750Ti. I managed to get unity to
run by cleaning out all my configs and switching back to the older
kernel, but apt seems to be irrevocably broken.

2016-07-31 Thread Roger Lawhorn
Update results (using my fix):
Reboot with resync in progress= start where I left off (ex. 23%).
Reboot after full resync is done = go back to 0% and resync all 2TB all over
again.
Why is this bug not given importance or assigned to anyone?
It is destroying my life. That's all. I have work to do.

[Bug 1608184] [NEW] wine32-development is missing

2016-07-31 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Trying to install wine-development 1.9.8-1 on yakkety 64 bits

[Bug 1608117] Re: no touchpad settings app installed by default on machine with touchpad

2016-07-31 Thread Brendan Perrine
I have one more question about this bug are you asking for a graphical
application to adjust touchpad settings to be included by default to
make it easier for new users? On lubuntu for touchpad settings I know
only the default command line synclient is installed.

[Bug 1608190] [NEW] Make it easier to automate "apt update" setup command

2016-07-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

If you use autopkgtest in a development release, you have to remember to
either manually run 'apt update' first or pass --setup-commands="apt
update" to autopkgtest, as documented in the manpage.

I would be happier if I could set this to happen automatically, perhaps
through an environment variable or config file.

Or instead, how about just enabling the "apt update" setup command by
default?

[Bug 1001842] Re: No Audio from HDMI After Switching Monitor Off / On

2016-07-31 Thread Stew Fisher
i have the same issue too with ubuntu 16.04 mate, but also i have
changed my distro to Arch Linux and have the same issue, so i dont think
its limited to to Ubuntu.

The other issue is that the bug is intermittent. sometimes it happens
other times its not. I cannot work out what triggers this bug.

the chip im using is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel
Corporation HD Graphics 520 (rev 07) its a new machine.

The work around that Positvek suggested seemed to work.

[Bug 1183692] Re: Not enough disk space for kernel security update on /boot

2016-07-31 Thread Rob Hills
Agree with the above. There should be a simple, foolproof-as-possible way to
manage boot device free space. I am currently trying to rescue my wife's
computer from an incomplete 14.04LTS -> 16.04LTS upgrade that has failed near
the end because it ran out of space on /boot. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!
Maybe I should have known to check for adequate free space on /boot before
doing an upgrade, but if I should have known that, so should the upgrader and
it should have checked and warned me BEFORE STARTING the upgrade!

Ideally the upgrade process should offer the option of clearing out old
kernels (there were only 2 there apart from the one in use) before
proceeding.

[Bug 1608195] [NEW] Prints incorrect page background colour

2016-07-31 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Whilst printing a 400x518mm poster which has no background colour set I
find that the resulting poster has its page background colour set to the
fill colour of the 'lowest' object in the original drawing.

The source document is created in Inkscape and printed to PDF. This
source PDF is correct so the problem appears to be in how pdfposter
keeps track of the objects it processes.

If a new dummy rectangle is created with its fill set to 'white' the
background colour of the poster is correct. Setting the fill colur to
'nil' (empty) doesn't fix it.

[Bug 1608192] Re: i dont know

2016-07-31 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the title of the bug to something more meaningful.

Thanks!

2016-07-31 Thread Martin Pitt
"apt update" is rather expensive, I'd rather not force this upon each
test run. It will also not work on read-only testbeds such as Ubuntu
Touch or snappy.

Also, you don't need --setup-commands for that, you can just use the -U
/--apt-upgrade option; this will also run dist-upgrade, but one really
must do that when running a test on an outdated testbed.

[Bug 1320402] Re: mdadm resyncs imsm raid in "Normal" state

2016-07-31 Thread Roger Lawhorn
I found this on the net after searching for "kernel 4.4 mdadm" (a page about
mdadm - follow first link):
"Kernel versions in series 4.1 through 4.4.1 have a broken RAID implementation.
Use a kernel with version at or above 4.4.2. "

I am using kernel 4.4.0-24 therefore I have broken raid.

Hope this helps someone else.

[Bug 1573956] Re: The Ubuntu logo at boot disappeares at certain point, and the screen displays fsck information.

2016-07-31 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
After installing an NVIDIA proprietary driver, mostly the NVIDIA logo was
displayed.
After one of the updates, the amount of time became stable.
After installing the "kubuntu-desktop" package, Plymouth started disaplying the
Kubuntu text splash. So, I used the update-alternatives to set the Ubuntu text
and graphics logos as default.
Now the only problem left is that Plymouth is in text mode. How can I make
Plymouth switch to graphics mode?

[Bug 1586962] Re: Impossible to select screen rate

2016-07-31 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
No, an option for that could not "always be" just because of this bug report:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=655041
It was created in 2011, and people are still experiencing issues now (last
meaasge: 2016-07-16 14:24:06 UTC).
I attach a screenshot of the display settings window.
I have changed the resolution using this settings once, and since that GNOME
sets the screen rate to maximum, which causes alignment problems on my monitor
(multiple people experience the same issue on GNOME Bugzilla). So, I have to
add an xrandr command to autostart.
As this question suggests, there is no better way since 2012!
http://askubuntu.com/questions/147580/how-to-see-change-screen-refresh-rate-or-monitor-frequency
So please, don't redirect the issue.

[Bug 1608205] [NEW] Create lens for Gnome Tracker

2016-07-31 Thread Krzysztof Tataradziński
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I don't know where to put this wishlist. In Windows 7 I'm searching in a lot of
xls or doc files by typing in Start menu (Win is indexing all files, even these
not opened before). Alternative to this is Gnome Tracker, but there should be
option to use it with Unity.
There is one extension to Gnome Shell
(https://github.com/hamiller/tracker-search-provider).
Lens allowing to search in Gnome Tracker from Unity Dash would be a great
feature, please add it :)

[Bug 1586661] Re: gnome-terminal transparent in wrong place when selected

2016-07-31 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
Strangely enough when I launched gnome-terminal this morning the issue
appeared to be gone, still seems so, it is possible that it has been
like that since yesterday or the day before and I just didn't notice.
Was there an update which could have fixed this issue? If not, then
probably it's only been since today that it works as it should, but I
will keep an eye on it and let you know if it returns.

[Bug 1590990] Re: USB exploit - cross platform

2016-07-31 Thread johnmne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1393612 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1393612

Dear Seth,

Indeed but surely there is a solution for this.
You can say the same thing about every other message that should be displayed
to the user in every configuration/setup of Ubuntu/Linux.

I sent an email to the OSS security mail list, whose address appears at the
following URL:
http://oss-security.openwall.org/wiki/mailing-lists/oss-security
(i.e. "oss [dash] security [at] lists [dot] openwall [dot] com" )

I'm sorry but I don't know which packages should be modified, I'm not
well familiar with Ubuntu/Linux.

BTW in every setup or configuration of Linux there is *some* interactive way to
alert the user about an error or problem.
Why it is so complicated when dealing with our current problem ?
The user *must* have a screen and a keyboard. Thus the message will be
displayed either via the command-line terminal or via the GUI.
(I don't understand what's the problem here...)
If the developers can't implement this security patch, then why would anything
else be possible?

[Bug 1558480] Re: Make Wine packages synced from Debian

2016-07-31 Thread jre
> "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386" seems doing nothing.

@9d9: i386 is enabled on your system, otherwise you'd get another
message from the new wine packages.

Generally you always need to issue a "sudo apt update" afterwards (you
don't mention that anywhere in your recent bugs). However your apt-cache
command proves you did that and that the package is available already.

So try:
$ sudo apt install wine32=1:1.8.3-2ubuntu3 libwine:i386=1:1.8.3-2ubuntu3

If that still goes wrong please post the whole unshortened output of
this command.

> Could you give some examples? 64 bit windows apps generally require the 32
> bit subsystem as it's always available on Windows.

- Some developers who build and test their own app for Windows in Wine.
- Afaik most arm64 users only have the 64-bit parts installed.

But I obviously agree that normally you need wine32.

[Bug 1608218] [NEW] System Settings does not show free space on storage card.

2016-07-31 Thread Gregory Opera
Public bug reported:

When one accesses the "Storage" information in System Settings, no
information is shown regarding the status of removable storage.

Not only would it make sense to include the status of removable storage
on this screen (particularly since System Settings is a compulsory part
of the operating system), but there appears to be no other way in which
to learn the status of removable storage at this time.

--

Reproduce:
- Insert or connect removable storage that is compatible with a Ubuntu (Touch)
mobile device, ensuring that said removable storage has at least some content
contained on it.
- Access the "storage" information for Ubuntu (Touch): Apps Scope-->System
Settings-->About-->Storage

Result:
- Only the status of internal (built-in) storage is shown.

Expectation:
- That Ubuntu (Touch) shows storage status for both internal AND external
storage, either on the same screen or with a toggle of some kind.

[Bug 283477] Re: ecryptfs-utils does not handle changing password

2016-07-31 Thread Reuben Firmin
Same issue here. KDE's screen lock had crashed, so I dropped to the
command line. I fat fingered my password into the user field after
getting it wrong initially, so the first thing I did once I got a shell
was to change my password.

I then rebooted, upon which I got:

Jul 31 08:02:01 void ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring: Incorrect
wrapping key for file [/home/reuben/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase]
Jul 31 08:02:01 void ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring: Error
attempting to unwrap passphrase from file
[/home/reuben/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase]; rc = [-5]
Jul 31 08:05:01 void CRON[4528]: (root) CMD (command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null
&& debian-sa1 1 1)
Jul 31 08:05:04 void sudo: pam_ecryptfs: Passphrase file wrapped
Jul 31 08:05:04 void sudo: Incorrect wrapping key for file
[/home/reuben/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase]
Jul 31 08:05:04 void sudo: Error attempting to unwrap passphrase from file
[/home/reuben/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase]; rc = [-5]
Jul 31 08:05:04 void sudo: pam_ecryptfs: Error adding passphrase key token to
user session keyring; rc = [-5]

I then changed my password back to what it was, rebooted, and this time
it was able to wrap the key.

[Bug 1607693] Re: automatically start networkd if YAML config is present

2016-07-31 Thread Martin Pitt
Plan:
 - Move "generate" from being a .service to a systemd system-generator. Create
a flag file in /run to only run at boot, not every time on daemon-reload.
 - The future "netplan apply" will remove the flag file and re-run the
generator.
 - To provide easier access to YAML errors, provide a "netplan check" verb.

[Bug 1558480] Re: Make Wine packages synced from Debian

2016-07-31 Thread jre
I had hoped that in "" there is some clue what's wrong on your
system, that's why I asked for unshortened. Not sure what's "gnome3
staging packages", I don't know that. But I guess some Gnome staging PPA
has the potential to conflict with a Wine PPA. Someone more into Ubuntu
might help there, and figure out if there are conflicting PPAs, manually
set on hold packages, broken apt preferences, or some other broken
package state that blocks this.

Anyway, by now from my pov bryanquigley's wine packages look fine (or
are not broken in this respect at least). :)

[Bug 1568435] Re: Tor cannot start `obfs4proxy` ('Operation not permitted')

2016-07-31 Thread Mark
I think I am also affected by this.

In a live Ubuntu 16.04 (and 16.04.1) session I cannot get the tor service
running due to some apparmor restrictions (see dmesg logs someone else posted).
The updated apparmor profiles did not really fix my situation...

I think this should be upgrade to a defect because right now tor is not
usable on a Ubuntu 16.04 live OS (I haven't tested it on a full
installation yet).

[Bug 1312966] Re: ssvnc creates a 1x1 window with -scale auto

2016-07-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ssvnc - 1.0.29-3

---
ssvnc (1.0.29-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: Add call to dh_strip_nondeterminism.
  * openssl1.1.patch (new): Support OpenSSL 1.1 API changes (Closes:
#828559).
  * auto-scale.patch (new): Make autoscaling work (Closes: #801804, LP:
#1312966). In addition to the command-line option "-scale auto"
creating a 1×1 window, rescaling when resizing the window didn't
happen, at least not when Caps Lock or other modifiers were active.
  * samemachine_ipv6_overflow.patch (new): Fix stack overflow when
connecting over IPv6, caused by non-IPv6-aware code (Closes: #774622).
  * nostrip.patch: Don't strip vncstorepw or ultravnc_dsm_helper either.
  * buildflags.patch: Also pass flags to vncstorepw/Makefile and patch
that to use them.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.8.

This has been happening to me too. A program crashes, and the dialog

but the dialog closes and no browser window opens.

It's really bad... lots of crashes must be going un-reported on 16.04!
