[Bug 1296835] Re: status_of_proc lacks a "-p" in /etc/init.d/pptpd

2016-07-23 Thread Wesley Wiedenmeier
The version in trusty-proposed looks like it fixes the issue.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache show pptpd | grep Version
Version: 1.3.4+27+gddb30f8-1ubuntu1
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/pptpd start
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/pptpd status
 * /usr/sbin/pptpd is not running

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache show pptpd | grep Version
Version: 1.3.4+27+gddb30f8-1ubuntu1.1
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/pptpd start
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/pptpd status
 * pptpd is running

[Bug 1604219] Re: Install Ubuntu 16.04 via USB crashed

2016-07-23 Thread Tharakan
I am updating this as invalid, because on further check it came to light
that the ISO was improperly downloaded. an MD5Sum check + ZSync ensured
that this was rectified...

Its working perfectly after that.

Please close the ticket.

[Bug 1603924] Re: Update to 1.5.11

2016-07-23 Thread Felix Natter
hello Light Templar,

the difficulty in publishing packages is that every dependency (such as groovy
and 20 others for
freeplane) must be packaged separately from source.

And Ubuntu 16.04 has different dependencies which means the package and/or the
depenencies
must be adapted. Adapting dependencies is hard, because there are other
reverse-dependencies.

I'll see if I can so something, but it won't be easy.

Cheers and Best Regards,
Felix

[Bug 1605628] Re: upload file not working with PhantomJS 2.1.1

Hi guys,
here's what upstream says:

> Yes, that's correct. We need additional functionality that vanilla QtWebKit
> doesn't have. That's why we use custom version.

At the moment their qtwebkit fork is 28 commits ahead, 39 commits behind
qt:dev.

I propose you bundle all of their git submodules inside the source
archive and build the libs locally before building PhantomJS. This is
sub-optimal but looks like the only way to go.

[Bug 1605571] Re: apt install --no-install-recommends fcitx-bin, breaks dead keys

2016-07-23 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
On 2016-07-23 07:59, Alkis Georgopoulos wrote:

I know that. The desktop file in the seed is reflected in the package
dependencies, while the live file isn't. In the case of Lubuntu the
fcitx stuff is included in the desktop file, which is why my command
above works to show which packages they use.

These are two possible approaches for MATE:

1. Include the needed packages (not only fcitx-bin) in the live seed,
having them removed by Ubiquity at install as Aron mentioned for non-
CJKV installs, and keep "auto" in im-config/gnome-language-selector.

2. Include the needed packages in the desktop seed instead as Lubuntu
does, so they are also installed by Ubiquity, and change to "cjkv" in
im-config/gnome-language-selector so fcitx isn't started/configured by
default for non-CJKV users.

With the latter approach the fcitx menu won't be shown in live sessions
for non-CJKV users, which probably is good.

The reason why I showed which packages Lubuntu uses was that I think
(not tested) that a couple of additional packages are needed.

[Bug 1580272] Re: i915-bpo crashes on external hdmi input

2016-07-23 Thread Mikko Rytkönen
Perhaps a stupid question, but where exactly is the "fix released"?

I'm on Xubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.4.0-31 and I still see a similar
crash when disconnecting the monitor in HDMI output. Same thing happens
also when I turn off the external monitor.

[Bug 1605843] Re: Kernel crashes from time to time when using ftrace

2016-07-23 Thread Nikolay Borisov
So here is a disassembly of the ftrace functions:

0x8183026b :mov$0x0,%rcx
0x81830272 : callq 0x81156d80

0x81830277 : mov0x40(%rsp),%r9
0x8183027c :mov0x48(%rsp),%r8
0x81830281 :mov0x70(%rsp),%rdi
0x81830286 :mov0x68(%rsp),%rsi
0x8183028b :mov0x60(%rsp),%rdx
0x81830290 :mov0x58(%rsp),%rcx
0x81830295 :mov0x50(%rsp),%rax
0x8183029a :mov0x20(%rsp),%rbp
0x8183029f :add$0xd0,%rsp
0x818302a6 : jmpq 0x818302a8

And here is disassembly of ftrace_stub, which clearly looks broken:
crash> dis ftrace_stub 10
0x818302a8 : (bad)
0x818302a9 : (bad)
0x818302aa : incl 0x0(%rax)
0x818302b0 :pushfq
0x818302b1 : push %rbp
0x818302b2 : pushq 0x18(%rsp)
0x818302b6 : push %rbp
0x818302b7 : mov%rsp,%rbp
0x818302ba : pushq 0x20(%rsp)
0x818302be : push %rbp

crash> rd 0x818302a8
818302a8: 80ff

So I guess the reason is that ftrace_stub somehow gets corrupted.

[Bug 1535755] Re: Show contact details from social accounts

2016-07-23 Thread Peter Bittner
** Description changed:

  As a phone user
I want to easily look up contacts that I have either in my address book, or
on a Social Account (LinkedIn, Xing, Facebook, etc.)
So that I don't have to add/merge all contacts to/with my address book that I
want to find
And the number of pure phone address book contacts stays small (only the
essential contacts)
And I don't have to do time-consuming research for contacts and their details.

  Details
  --
Phone address books usually show only contacts you have stored on your phone
or a cloud account (like Google Mail or the like). It would make a lot of a
difference if Ubuntu's address book could integrate seamlessly with Social
Accounts, and pull contact details from there without necessarily adding them
or merging them with the phone contacts.

Motivation: I don't want a million contacts in my personal address book,
but sometimes I want to get in touch with or look up contacts that I
have on LinkedIn, Xing, Facebook, etc. A convenient, quick lookup would
  be awesome.

[Bug 1599516] Re: No accented letters in window title bars, dash and hud.

2016-07-23 Thread Coeur Noir
well it's not only esthetic problem, but a real usability issue : you
can not use accented letters in dash & hud search - which is a real pain
for many languages…

…glad it's triaged but what am I supposed to do now ? I'm still having
the issue on my up-to-date 16.04 - so probably 16.04.1 by now…

Any log or else I may provide ?

[Bug 1599516] Re: No accented letters in window title bars, dash and hud.

2016-07-23 Thread Coeur Noir
** Description changed:

  Hi,

I've noticed problems with accented letters since few days in 16.04
  Unity :

  - in window title bar, accented letters are replaced with « square
symbols ». It happens in all softwares when windows are not maximized.
Once maximized, accented letters are correctly shown ( in top panel, for
example : Vidéos, Téléchargements… ). Wrong display of accented letters
comes back once window is un-maximized.

  - in dash, accented letters are ignored. If I type « démarrage » on
keyboard I get « dmarrage » in dash

  - [edit] same behaviour in HUD, no accented letters there either, which
  is very annoying in french.

I did not have those behaviours some days ago.

Hello,
after the error I just deleted the first three entries in sources/list that
are for cdrom.
The remaining three entries were for the online repository.

I don't have the file anymore.

Regards,

[Bug 1312051] Re: Upstart init process consuming all ram

2016-07-23 Thread Rob Teszka
I have been getting this bug repeatedly on 16.04 LTS. After about say 2
hours of uptime everything is extremely slow and unresponsive, even just
editing text files. I have to log into a different console with
ctrl+alt+f1 to do anything. According to top, upstart is using about
100% CPU and around 40% memory. It's intermittent, only happens about
every 4-5 reboots or so, but boy is it annoying. Any suggestions? Any
logs I can post to help diagnose?

to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1605797] Re: [ICH - Intel 82801AA-ICH, playback] No sound at all

2016-07-23 Thread ano
Thank you Raymond for looking into this.

Another thing that may be helpful: I removed a working vdi with Ubuntu
guest o/s (version 15.XXX) running on the same host (current OS X).

In that guest, which also ran in VirtualBox, I had no problems with
sound at all & I had installed a few other softwares (Audacity, some
python tools,etc.).

In the new guest, the only non-standard software is Ardour4 and there is
no difference between the sound ability now and prior to installing
that.

which was:

> gouri, the latest mainline kernel is 4.3-rc6. Is this what you tested
with?

According to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ latest
mainline (stable) kernel is 4.6.4.

@pereze wrote:

I believe that this is the mainline kernel, so I think the conditions
are satisfied to add tag "kernel-bug-exists-upstream".

[Bug 1605875] [NEW] screen lock cycles screens on/off constantly

2016-07-23 Thread NeO
Public bug reported:

Both my home and work machines, running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04, both fully
up to date suffer this issue. I check both machines for updates daily in
a hope for a fix to this extremely bothersome issue.

The machines both have external monitors, and if I lock the screen with
Win+L the screen will lock then sleep. A few seconds later, when the
external monitor goes into "sleep" mode, the computer decides to
"reconfigure" the connected displays (as happens when you unplug a
display physically) and the screen is woken again for a few seconds, the
screens and computer will then shortly thereafter return to sleep,
monitor switches off and the cycle starts all over.

This alone is annoying but not the worst issue. At work this causes all
3 of my screens to switch on and off every few seconds which is annoying
for my colleagues if I'm away from my desk, and at home this results in
the music, playing through my monitor-connected speakers to start/stop
constantly as the monitor goes on and off.

More importantly, once I log back in, gnome-shell is totally
unresponsive and I have to restart it with CTRL+F2, r then performance
returns back to normal, usually I'll see a bug report dialog if I've
left it long enough (say gone out to lunch).

I can add that if I use a "dumb" monitor over VGA for example and no
other external monitors, there is no "sensing" occuring so the problem
does not happen, sadly, most of my monitors are HDMI/DP.

Both machines are laptops and do NOT suffer the issue if NO external
displays are connected.

It seems to me the bug is that the computer shouldn't "reconfigure"
displays when the screen is sleeping and thus wake itself.

I'm having this problem on Lenovo G410 with the latest release 16.04
fully updated as of July 22, 2016. After coming back from suspend, the
wireless icon disappears and is replaced by the ethernet connection
icon. Although the wifi stays connected to it's last remembered
