As mentioned in comment #6, the currently reported fix from upstream is
already in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. There is no known other suggested fix
reported so far, but it'd be welcome to know one.

[Bug 1586933] [NEW] gpu-manager's drm output detection affects boot time

2016-05-30 Thread Alberto Milone
Public bug reported:

Rather than calling drm directly, gpu-manager should simply check the
outputs connector status by using the sysfs filesystem (e.g.
/sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/status, etc.), thus relying on data that
is already available.

This should make gpu-manager a bit less resource intensive, especially
on boot.

The attached perf shows the problem in gpu-manager.

[Bug 1307069] Re: gpu-manager causing long startup delays

2016-05-30 Thread Alberto Milone
I did a little profiling, and it seems that the call that gpu-manager
does to drm to get the connected outputs is quite expensive, and I think
there are better ways to check the connector status.

While certainly relevant to boot time, this is a separate problem (the
original one being caused by an actual regression), and I have filed a
separate bug report to keep track of it (LP: #1586933).

[Bug 1579082] Re: minor changes to satisfy MIR request

This bug was fixed in the package zfs-linux - 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu9

---
zfs-linux (0.6.5.6-0ubuntu9) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Minor changes to satisfy MIR request (LP: #1579082)
[ Richard Laager ]
- zfs-zed: Version "Replaces: zfsutils-linux" and add versioned
 "Breaks: zfsutils-linux"
- explicitly specify the man pages so we don't include zed.8
[ Colin Ian King ]
- remove root ALL=(ALL) ALL and R_ROOT from
  debian/tree/zfsutils-linux/etc/sudoers.d/zfs. The R_ROOT serves
no useful purpose, complicates people actually using the sudoers
file, and pollutes the global namespace
- add init.d linitan overrides for zfsutils-linux and zfs-zed
as initscripts will never be used and we will rebase with the
Debian package initscripts once the package gets accepted by Debian

[Bug 1586272] Re: unity8-dash + maliit-server crashes on arale (2016-04)

2016-05-30 Thread Michał Sawicz
Unfortunately the maliit issue failed to retrace:
http://bit.ly/25vqygU

The unity8-dash one simply says that unity8 wasn't running:
http://bit.ly/1NYc5lD

Neither have a lot of instances on errors, so not a common issue - both
could be caused by unity8 not running for whatever reason - *why* it's
not running would need answering.

[Bug 1586939] [NEW] Wrong installation path for amqp.ini

2016-05-30 Thread martijntje
Public bug reported:

When installing the package php-amqp, the amqp.ini ends up in /etc/php
/mods-available instead of the expected path /etc/php/7.0/mods-available
(the first directory is created during the installation).

This results in two warnings during installation:

WARNING: Module amqp ini file doesn't exist under /etc/php/7.0/mods-available
WARNING: Module amqp ini file doesn't exist under /etc/php/7.0/mods-available

After this the extension does not work of course. After moving the file
to the correct location and executing "phpenmod amqp" it works as
expected.

The debug information is very very irrelevant but I could not find a way
to report a bug without using the silly 'ubuntu-bug' application.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04
Package: php-amqp 1.7.0~alpha2-3

for a week, maybe it was just luck, because now it is happening again in
past days.

[Bug 1581594] Re: constantly shows wrong temperature (99°C )

2016-05-30 Thread Martin Pitt
@Phillip, thanks for working on this!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. mentions both possibilities for
attribute 231. Do you happen to have a more direct reference? Also, can
you please create an upstream bug for this as well? Thanks!

2016-05-30 Thread Colin Ian King
@SunBear, thanks for verifying this. I am not sure how the installation
of minor update to thermald is related to the machine not booting and
requiring fixing. I've tested the same update on a couple of machines
and did not get any issues, so perhaps your drive issues and the
thermald update are unrelated.

[Bug 1583960] Re: CVE-2016-4480

2016-05-30 Thread Philipp Hahn
Correct me if I'm wrong, but
is a *Xen* Bug, not a
*Linux-Kernel* Bug: "xen/arch/x86/mm/guest_walk.c" is in the Hypervisor
part of Xen.

I tried to back-port the bug to xen-4.1.6.1 from Precise but the patch
is not applicable directly, as xen-4.1 does not seem to support 1GiB
super pages; it was only introduced in xen-4.2:

$ git l1 -1 96b740e2
96b740e x86/mm: Handle 1GiB superpages in the pagetable walker.
$ git describe --contains 96b740e2
4.2.0-rc1~1863

I don't know what would happen if xen-4.1 would run on a CPU supporting 1GiB
large pages.
Either 1GiB SP should be disabled are 96b740e2 needs to be back-ported as a
pre-requisite for 46699c7393bd991234b5642763c5c24b6b39a6c4

[Bug 1586968] [NEW] Touch selection menu initially empty when focusing a text field

2016-05-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

This appears to be 100% reproducible when the device has just been rebooted
(not always reproducible otherwise).
Steps to reproduce:
 1) browse to e.g. http://pastebin.ubuntu.com
 2) long press on one of the text fields ("Poster:" or "Content:")
 3) wait for the touch selection menu to appear next to the insertion handle
(note that at the moment there is a bug in oxide which also triggers the page
context menu, dismissing it will get you the touch selection menu)

Expected result: assuming the clipboard is empty (device just rebooted),
the "Select All" action is the only one visible in the touch selection
menu.

Current result: no action is visible, the menu is empty (see attached
screenshot).

[Bug 1586968] Re: Touch selection menu initially empty when focusing a text field

2016-05-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I instrumented the webview to print the initial value of
editingCapabilities (at Component.onCompleted) and to print the new
value whenever it changes. This is what I’m seeing:

qml: EDITING CAPS: 0
qml: INITIAL EDITING CAPS: 64

The value of editingCapabilities changes once (to 0) before component
completion. At component completion, the value has changed again (64 ==
SelectAll), but the corresponding changed signal hasn’t been emitted,
which explains why the touch selection menu isn’t aware of the SelectAll
capability, and is displayed empty. This looks like a bug in oxide.

[Bug 1582213] Re: Bluetooth headset doesn't play any sound (regression)

2016-05-30 Thread Mary Sherman
OK, log is attached.

The operation, in detail is:

- I've started the (ad-hoc configured) pulseaudio
- Connected the headphones
- Opened a video in VLC
  - nothing from the HPs
  - opened pavucontrol
- the VLC output was set as HPs; under `Configuration`, the profile was
`A2DP Sink`
- Changed profile to `HSP/HFP`

The sound was now playing through the HPs.
In real world use case, I would switch again to A2DP, but it's irrelevant for
debugging (I assume everything works as expected the moment I switch profile).

** Description changed:

  I have a Sennheiser MM 450-X headset.

In 15.10, connection & playback was straightforward.

In 16.04, the headset connects, and shows up as default playback device
on `pavucontrol`, but there is no sound.

A functional workaround is to, after having connected it, to go the
`Configuration` tab, and in the `Profile` dropdown, to choose `...
HSP/HFP`, which will make them play as expected (but in low quality),
then switch to `... A2DP Sink` (they will play in high quality).

[Bug 1586941] Re: Randomly segfault on BYT with 4.4 kernel

2016-05-30 Thread Ying-Chun Liu
We've tried upstart 1.13.2 from xenial. I download 1.13.2-0ubuntu16 from
Xenial. And re-built it in Trusty chroot (also build all of the reverse
dependencies). However the package doesn't provide /sbin/init. Thus we
cannot use it.

[Bug 1582687] Re: workbench crashes metacity on ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-30 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
Can you reproduce your crash? Try to add error trap around
XFixesDestroyRegion (xdisplay, cw->window_region); line.

Anyway I am starting to think that it is better to add error trap for
whole free_win function.

[Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-05-30 Thread Svetlin Mladenov
The Zenbook series of laptops is very popular. What can be done to speed
up the implementation of a fix?

Am I right in understanding that the problem is actually in the intel
driver - http://www.spinics.net/lists/intel-gfx/msg79628.html? Maybe
intel should be contacted and pressured over this?

[Bug 1586988] [NEW] Version 2.10 is converted to 2.1

Public bug reported:

Setting an snap with version: 2.10 is converted implicitely to a numeric
value and set to 2.1 (as in hello_2.1_amd64.snap) for instance.

We need to treat the version always as a string.

Note that snap/meta/snap.yaml is already converted to 2.1.

[Bug 1586968] Re: Touch selection menu initially empty when focusing a text field

2016-05-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I see what’s happening: when
OxideQQuickWebViewPrivate::OnEditingCapabilitiesChanged() is initially
called, the value of the edit flags stored by the oxide webview is
correct (64 == SelectAll), but to retrieve the new value
OxideQQuickWebView::editingCapabilities() is called, and at that point
(component construction not complete yet), d->proxy_ is null, so
NoCapability (0) is returned.

In this light, emitting editingCapabilitiesChanged() in
OxideQQuickWebViewPrivate::completeConstruction() after the proxy has
been set sounds like a reasonable solution.

[Bug 1293384] Re: Compiz CPU usage dramatically increased in Ubuntu 14.04

2016-05-30 Thread shay
on 14.04 with a high end nvidia GPU , since one of the latest updates ,
compiz goes to 100%, and my desktop goes black

losing all my work at least once a day , not fun at all!

such compiz issues has been plaguing ubuntu since version 10 , which is
why i wait for the last minute to upgrade , but even that does not help,
and somehow these major regressions are released pretty often.

even unity --reset is now deprecated, so the onyl option is to reboot
and lose my work

I agree that it's special :) Yet, it doesn't answer the question whether
packages are allowed to be broken by installations into /usr/local. I don't
seem to find a resource which answers that question. Since that's not a
launchpad.net discussion, I opened
http://askubuntu.com/questions/779430/are-system-packages-installed-into-usr-allowed-to-be-broken-by-source-installat
 to figure this out.

[Bug 1587009] [NEW] hvc0 not present

Public bug reported:

i have installed Ubuntu 16.04 with debootstrap on a XenServer 6.2.

i have also installed xe-guest-utilities, grub-xen and linux-image-

when booting the VM, i don't see anything in the XenCenter console.

i think this is because there is no hvc0 tty.

as written here, it should start automatically:
