[Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] is not supported

2015-09-11 Thread Colin
Adam Lee - you are a legend mate! Used the 1.1 patch from 244. Had to
use a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04 with the 3.19.0-28 kernel. My 14.04
installation just would not work, no matter which kernel I tried.
Machine is an Alienware-15 laptop. Last up is fixing the sound. Thanks
again, major kudos!!

And a more recent full report:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/8cea3adc-5567-11e5-a560-fa163e707a72

If it's about "no messages", it could be related to the fact that the
app shows "No messages" initially at times when it's launched, before it
populates with all the content there is.

[Bug 1494155] Re: [mako] pulseaudio resample methos missing src-sinc-*

According to Alexander Patrakov's evaluation, both speex-float-5 and

So far we've trusted his word on that. If you want to challenge that, I
suggest you do so on the pulseaudio-discuss mailinglist.

[Bug 1494621] [NEW] kio is considered an orphan by deborphan

2015-09-11 Thread Piotr Kęplicz
Public bug reported:

kio package is in the "libs" section and since no other package depends
on it (other than kubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-full), deborphan happily
recommends removal of this package in a nonstandard Kubuntu

kio is essential for many, if not all of the KDE applications. I suppose
kde-runtime or kdelibs-bin should depend on it too, not only kubuntu
metapackages.

[Bug 1494442] Re: Turn whoopsie reporting off by default for phone on stable channel

I think it is not whoopsie that needs to be disabled but apport which is
responsible of generating the crash file and is the source of the load
on the device when a crash occurs. If the crash file is not uploaded
then there is no need to generate it at all on a retail phone.

[Bug 1494625] [NEW] 12:04: resize2fs: unclear/incorrect units in size report

2015-09-11 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

'man resize2fs' claims "If no units are specified, the units of the size
parameter shall be the filesystem blocksize of the filesystem" but
makes no mention of the units used in the minimum size report. The tool
itself makes no mention of units.

Many users would assume the value was in bytes, or possibly KB.

Despite the fact that the operating deals in file-system block-size
units the output appears to be in units of 512-byte sectors.

$ sudo dumpe2fs /dev/fujiVG/home | grep 'Block size'

by one of the following the units designators: 's', 'K', 'M', or 'G',
for 512 byte sectors, kilobytes, megabytes, or gigabytes, respectively."

In practice the suffix appears to be ignored.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1494641] [NEW] sending messages from today scope is clumsy

2015-09-11 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

On a bq aquaris 4.5, stable channel.
It is very cumbersome to send a message to a fav contact from the today
scope. Actually, not sending the message, that works ok (ok, you have to hit
[more] to get to it). But when the message is sent, the work begins. The back
arrow (if you decide not to send the message) doesn't bring you back to the
contact details but brings you back (why back, I haven't been there before) to
the list of conversations. From there you can swipe (from the right) back to
the contact details, which are not of interest anymore, and another back arrow
brings you back to the today scope where you can choose another fav contact.
That is so clumsy!
Regards,
Hans-Peter

[Bug 1185784] Re: Multi-monitor configuration with different vertical resolution

2015-09-11 Thread Martin Goth
Maybe this can split into several bug reports, since there could be
several causes for the single points.

Personally I can confirm point 3). I will further explain the problem.

My setup is a one portrait monitor (1920x1080) and one landscape
(1080x1920). My desktop background is 1920x1920 so in zoom & center
setting both monitors are filled without the background being zoomed.
However after relogin or reboot the secondary landscape monitor's
background is either zoomed by 1.7x (1920/1080) or cropped to 1080x1080
leaving black bars left and right, whether the setting was zoom or
center. Switching between zoom and center in the setting then returns
the original mode.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have two fullhd monitors, primary in portrait, other in landscape mode.
2. Set a 1920x1920 image as desktop background
3. Set center or zoom mode
4. Log out and log in again

** Attachment added: "Screenshots of the two error modes and how it should be"

[Bug 1494644] [NEW] [FFe] sync python-passlib 1.6.5-1 from Debian unstable

2015-09-11 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Currently the python-passlib source package in Ubuntu is 'passlib' and
is version 1.5.3; Debian have had newer versions >= 1.6.1 for some time,
but python-passlib is in the package blacklist since quantal, so its
never been synced.

OpenStack Keystone requires a newer passlib version; requesting ack from
release team to a) drop package from sync blacklist and b) sync over
from Debian.

Testing:

reverse-depends python-passlib
Reverse-Depends

* python-netlib

keystone and trove will be dealt with at Liberty b3 (inprogress)

python-passlib 1.6.5-1 builds fine for wily (see PPA below)

ansible rebuild is clean.
python-tldap ftbfs due to a python-asn1 incompat.

[Bug 1488409] Re: [MacbookPro11, 2] Using external displays show corrupted, flickering images

2015-09-11 Thread Alex Willmer
This behaviour is still present with kernel 4.2.0-7-generic - when an
external display is connected the desktop becomes incorrect
tiled/scaled, and the displays rapidly (~10 Hz) flicker.

Having the external display (Apple Cinema 27) plugged in during boot is
no longer a reliable workaround. Usually it displays a correct login
screen at native resolution, then the flickering begins when a desktop
session starts.

I've found a better workaround, pressing Super+S triggers 'spread mode'
causes each display to show a zoomed out overview of the entire desktop.
This (so far) reliably fixes the flickering and the tiling.

Perhaps I've filed this under the wrong package, could it be a bug in
Mir or Unity?

[Bug 1494659] [NEW] won't start: libwpd-0.10.so.10 missing

2015-09-11 Thread mray
Public bug reported:

Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on _Ubuntu 15.10_!!!

After the last update on my system inkscape did not start telling me;

"error while loading shared libraries: libwpd-0.10.so.10: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory"

But installing the lib fails, since it isn't in the repos.
A kind person on #inkscape IRC noted that debian uses "libwpd-0.10-10",
installing that one made inkscape work again.
Not sure if this is relevant fo you.

[Bug 1494678] [NEW] manage_etc_hosts: yes writes wrong hostname with custom hostname

2015-09-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

I use a cloud config like this:

#cloud-config
hostname: adt
manage_etc_hosts: true

Then I start an instance with "nova boot [...] adt-wily-amd64-puppet-
test". This correctly creates /etc/hostname, but /etc/hosts is wrong:

$ cat /etc/hostname
adt

$ cat /etc/hosts
# Your system has configured 'manage_etc_hosts' as True.
# As a result, if you wish for changes to this file to persist
# then you will need to either
# a.) make changes to the master file in /etc/cloud/templates/hosts.tmpl
# b.) change or remove the value of 'manage_etc_hosts' in
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg or cloud-config from user-data
#
127.0.1.1 adt-wily-amd64-puppet-test.novalocal adt
[...]

This results in the fully qualified host name not being resolvable,
which breaks e. g. puppet:

$ ping adt.novalocal
ping: unknown host adt.novalocal

$ sudo puppet agent --test --detailed-exitcodes

[Bug 1472097] Re: XMir crashes when running with -rootless

2015-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As far as I can tell "-rootless" mode actually is not implemented yet. I
can't make it crash but I can see that it mistakenly maps each X Window
(some of which could be menus or even individual widgets like in xedit)
to separate Mir surfaces. If we're going to continue on this path then
Mir needs full sub-surface (child/embedded surfaces) placement support.

[Bug 1494258] Re: Sync virtualbox/virtualbox-guest-additions-iso/virtualbox-ext-pack 5.0.4 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (non-free)

2015-09-11 Thread Graham Inggs
PPA build was OK. I'll sponsor these now.

I think the cause of the local build failure is I have libxml2-utils installed.
Config.kmk finds /usr/bin/xmllint and sets VBOX_HAVE_XMLLINT.
In doc/manual/Makefile.kmk it tries to validate the manual and fails.

[Bug 1475247] Re: ceph-disk-prepare --zap-disk hang

2015-09-11 Thread James Page
I think there are potentially two bugs here; the first being:

http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/11143

which is resolved by the fix in proposed (splitting the calls); I think
the hanging sgdisk might be a different problem.

I'm going to mark this as verification-done for
http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/11143; we'll need another bug for the
hang problem

[Bug 1494644] Re: [FFe] sync python-passlib 1.6.5-1 from Debian unstable

2015-09-11 Thread James Page
** Description changed:

Currently the python-passlib source package in Ubuntu is 'passlib' and
is version 1.5.3; Debian have had newer versions >= 1.6.1 for some time,
but python-passlib is in the package blacklist since quantal, so its
  never been synced.

OpenStack Keystone requires a newer passlib version; requesting ack from
release team to a) drop package from sync blacklist and b) sync over
  from Debian.

python-passlib 1.6.5-1 builds fine for wily (see PPA below)

[Bug 1494692] [NEW] Total hang of the krillin with a graphics artifact

2015-09-11 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

I've had total hangs with both OTA-5 and now OTA-6 on my krillin. This
was the first time I had developer mode enabled when it happened. With
total hang, I mean no interaction is possible besides turning screen
on/off, and the hang does not go "by" ie it's not apport running. Auto-
dimming is also still functional during the hang, as is brightening the
screen when touched.

However, I was not able to adb in in this state (I kept the screen on
throughout until I was able to try adb):
$ adb shell
error: protocol fault (no status)

$ adb devices
List of devices attached
JU012772device

$ adb shell
error: closed

The fault/closed statuses did take a minute or so to arrive, unlike when
the device is locked when the "closed" is immediate.

Hang happened at 12:48 (clock stalled at that point). Forced reboot at
13:01. No .crash files generated. The log files below were touched at
12:47 or later. I browsed through all of those and mostly nothing
extraordinary was seen. Only two with timestamped logs showed any
activity during the hang, but indeed they did show it was not total hang
even though also adb was not working. Those without timestamps are hard
to know when the messages were logged - before the hang, during the hang
or after the reboot.

The attached image shows how the phone hanged during starting Telegram.
The poor picture quality is from the laptop's webcam, since I was on
lunch when the hang happened. Note that the ghosting of two different
sized "Telegram" titles is not an optical illusion - there were two
overlapping texts with different sizes. That is, it was transitioning
from the splash screen to the smaller title with a logo. If my memory
serves me correctly, this type of overlapping transitional image has
been a symptom in the earlier total hangs too.

account-pold was clearly during the total hang. Also ubuntu-push-client
had one line: 2015/09/11 12:51:06.632108 INFO connectivity check passed.

pulseaudio-trust-stored.log had a non-timestamped lines with (this it the whole
content of the file):
Attempted to unregister path (path[0] = core path[1] = trust) which isn't
registered
reattempt connection to mir...
reattempt connection to mir...
reattempt connection to mir...
reattempt connection to mir...
Error during initialization and startup: Dynamic exception type:
N4core5trust3mir20InvalidMirConnectionE
std::exception::what: Cannot create instance for invalid connection to Mir.

cameraservice-trust-stored.log.1.gz also had the single line:
reattempt connection to mir...

I've saved the potentially interesting logs for account-polld, dbus,
unity8 and telegram for later watching. No other log files seemed to
have anything of interest.

[Bug 1489330] Re: [address book] Empty state for Favorites view not correct

2015-09-11 Thread Olga Kemmet
** Description changed:

The empty state for the Favorites view of the contacts is confusing and
should be improved. Currently if you have populated contacts but not favorites,
it will show:
"Create a new contact by swiping up from the bottom of the screen". If you do
swipe up and create a contact it is not even made a favorite.

I'd propose changing the message to something like:
  - "You have no favorites. Open a contact and select star button to favorite"
or something along those lines
  - It's fine to leave the "+" on bottom edge but the Star should be
automatically selected if you create the new contact from the Favorites view
+
+
+ UX comment ---
+
+ As per comment #1: remove the favourites section from the header until
+ user starts favouriting contacts. This way we can avoid maintenance on
+ empty states and only surface the right sections if they are in use.
