[Bug 1453738] Re: installer in LVM mode sets up broken encrypted swap, using duplicate unencrypted swap

2015-07-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Notes for myself, please ignore.

This resets what ecryptfs-setup-swap does and re-runs it, for testing a
fixed version:

sudo sed -i '/cryptswap/d' /etc/fstab /etc/crypttab && sudo sh -ex
/usr/bin/ecryptfs-setup-swap --force; echo " fstab ---"; grep swap
/etc/fstab; echo "--- crypttab "; cat /etc/crypttab; echo "--- swap
stat ---"; swapon -s

The problem is in the loop that tries to comment out existing swap from
/etc/fstab: It only checks for UUID= and the resolved name like
/dev/dm-1, but it does not take any symlinks like "/dev/mapper/ubuntu
--vg-swap_1 -> ../dm-1" into account.

This can be fixed with

--- /usr/bin/ecryptfs-setup-swap2015-03-28 01:37:38.0 +0100
+++ ecryptfs-setup-swap 2015-07-09 08:51:38.554860202 +0200

This then produces

 fstab ---

/dev/mapper/cryptswap1 none swap sw 0 0
--- crypttab
cryptswap1 UUID=ddec94de-8a98-4e95-bf76-a01e79029f35 /dev/urandom
swap,offset=1024,cipher=aes-xts-plain64

which works fine:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jul  9 08:55 /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 -> ../dm-2

$ sudo swapon -s
FilenameTypeSizeUsedPriority
/dev/dm-2 partition 2096636 0 -1

Now we need to clean this up on upgrades. The trick there is to avoid
reintroducing bug 953875, from installations which don't have the
"offset=" in crypttab.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2015-07-09 Thread Jean Jordaan
I'm on Asus UX303LB, with NVIDIA GM108M [GeForce 940M], using nvidia-346
version 346.59.
I don't see any correlation with touchpad use.
In my case, window or application switching (alt-tab) is often very
unresponsive (e.g. have to hold down alt-tab for 14 seconds before the switcher
appears) (about 10 seconds in, a half-faded-in switcher appears).
Also, switching workspaces is often super unresponsive, freezing before jerking
to the next workspace, or freezing halfway between workspaces.
In all cases, normal functioning resumes after 5-10 seconds frozen.

[Bug 1472939] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.10 fails to install manually.

2015-07-09 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Problem Description
===
After setting up partitions I get the error "Failed to remove conflicting
files. The installer needs to remove operating system files from the install
target, but was unable to do so. The install cannot continue".

Details
=
System :- Power 8 VM

Failure :-
The installer needs to remove operating system files from the
install target, but was unable to do so. The install cannot continue

Link of Ubuntu 15.10 :-
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ppc64el/EarlyReleases

Analysis :-
1. I observed that , I proceeded with Guided Partition using LVM and next time
I used Manual but used previous LVM partition then I was able to proceed with
Installation.

2. Also I figured out that if I create only swap and / partition, it
will install manually without any errors but If I create PRePboot ,swap
and / , this error occurs.

[Bug 1465862] Re: Mouse Cursor Invisible

2015-07-09 Thread Vindicator
4.2-rc1 was a COMPLETE failure.
It began with the build using "binary-perarch". I only added that because of
the linux-cloud* and linux-tools* installation (which I figure probably isn't
needed, but it's there). That isn't a big deal.

I cleaned and recompiled and installed just fine.

HOWEVER, boot was where the "complete" failure occurred.
I don't know how to get the log and submit a bug report for that (I'll research
submission methods). I took some pictures with my phone.
At the end of the first trace, it said "Fixing recursive fault but reboot is
needed!"

I'm also wondering what this "testing" is supposed to be doing. This is
an issue that has been on the books for years if you were to search
online for "(invisible OR disappearing) mouse (gnome OR linux OR
ubuntu)".

2015-07-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate

2015-07-09 Thread Vincent Gerris
Hi Steve,

Ubuntu is a project mostly led by people in their free time.
While I agree that this is an annoying bug, your remarks are a bit blunt when
it comes to respecting people's hard work.
How about you be happy with what IS working and try to contribute to a solution?
Feel free to code yourself, after all it is open source.
If you like to go back to a proprietary operating systems that has closed
source drivers that crash and cannot be fixed it all, why not go for it?
If you don't like Ubuntu, try something else. I do not have the issue on Fedora.
Can't add a printer? Look in the fora, I never had any problem for the last 8
years with any printer and like with Windows some (most not) need a driver.

Last but not least, I agree with Steve that this issue should be fixed.
Can anyone suggest what we should to ?

[Bug 1472947] [NEW] update-manager hangs after click on techical description

2015-07-09 Thread ThePhilips
Public bug reported:

The GUI of update-manager to select updates to install keeps hanging for
indefinite time with 100% CPU load (full single CPU core).

This is happening to me already since the 12.04 LTS times, and the
behavior is more or less unchanged in 14.04 LTS.

Steps to reproduce:

0. There should be some updates available for update-manager to show the
window with the update to be installed.
1. Click the "Details of updates" to display the list
2. Expand (for example) "*Ubuntu base" and click on some package in the list.
3. Click the "Technical description" to show the description.
4. Click again the "Technical description" to hide the description.
5. Click on some other package in the list.

Expected:
- The update manager reacts to the click and moves focus in the list to another
package

Actual result:
- The update manager hangs (doesn't react to mouse/keyboard events) for
indefinite time with 100% CPU load. Time of the blocking varies: from few
seconds to up to a minute probably.

Just some general toggling of "Details of updates" and "Technical
details", and clicking on different items in the list would cause the
weird behavior to occur. (Eventually it would also cause the "Details of
updates" to either stop showing the details or showing the details while
making the update-manager window non-resizeable.)

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

** Attachment added: "gdb's thread apply all where output from the time period
when the update-manager was hangning"

As it seems unlikely that we will be able to implement snooze on/off & snooze
duration for individual alarms, but do have an application-wide setting that
allows snooze duration to be set (but not disabled), I'd recommend the options
relating to snooze in application settings be changed to the following:

  - No snooze
  - 5 minutes
  - 10 minutes
  - 15 minutes

This way the list is still short (four options, as it is currently) but
the options provided are likely to be more useful (current 2 minute
snooze doesn't seem very useful, nor does the difference between 4 mins
  and 5 min snooze periods).

** Description changed:

  Snooze is evil.

I suggest to add to snooze dropdown menu in the option the voice "No
  snooze" or something like this

[Bug 953875] Re: Encrypted swap no longer mounted at bootup

2015-07-09 Thread Albert Pool
@Martin Pitt: This bug has not been fixed on 14.04 LTS, only on later editions.
I do not know how to add trusty as affected, can you do that?
We lost sight on trusty in this bug when it became apparent that vivid had an
additional problem to fix, namely systemd.

2015-07-09 Thread Paul Hudson
Keith,

Did you try Jinesh's bcmwl-kernel-source solution (above) instead of
STA? For me it has been working very well on 3.19 since I installed it
back in April, including 5Ghz connections. I note that there is now
(12th May) a 4.x kernel version of it
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/wily/amd64/bcmwl-kernel-source) that I am
about to try.

[Bug 1472968] [NEW] acpi-cpufreq should be built as module and not built-in

2015-07-09 Thread Andrea Bravetti
Public bug reported:

"acpi_cpufreq" should be built always as module and NEVER builtin
because it prevent phc-linux being loaded, and also any other
acpi_cpufreq replacement provided by the vendor if any.

"phc-linux" is very important if you need to downvolt some cpu.

It's important, especially for some ThinkPad notebook like the Edge 15
0301-J4G that hang frequently over 100C because of buggy voltage
regulation, even new, clean fan, etc...

Since I can't see any problem building it as a module and it should not
cause any regression it should be made even on 14.04 LTS, and for any
future release.

You can read about linux-phc here: http://www.linux-phc.org/forum

Also having linux-phc in the default kernel would be great but it may
need some work.

Not asking to fix in the mainstream kernel somethink so specific and
hardware bug related, but please please please don't force anyone has
this problem to rebuild a custom kernel because it's very annoying, just
build acpi_cpufreq as module and not builtin.

-CONFIG_X86_ACPI_CPUFREQ=y
+CONFIG_X86_ACPI_CPUFREQ=m

Ubuntu is the only distro I use that has ACPI_CPUFREQ=y, should I move
to Fedora or any other but Ubuntu?

Also Debian has ACPI_CPUFREQ=m.

[Bug 1472691] Re: Requires high quality entropy on first run

2015-07-09 Thread Martin Pitt
> I'm not sure what options exist to cause gpg to be less pedantic
though.

I looked a long time ago, unfortunately there is no way to make gpg use
/dev/urandom :-(

In most deployments I run autopkgtest from git and use --gnupg-home
"$AUTOPKGTEST_BASE/tests/home/.cache/autopkgtest" to use the pre-
generated key from git.

But "[trusted=yes]" sounds interesting, if that works we can get rid of
the whole gpg madness. Thanks for pointing out!

[Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2015-07-09 Thread Christian Frommeyer
I stumbled upon this Problem on 15.04. I cannot resolve company intranet
hosts via VPN as my WLANs local DNS server is always faster and only
knows about my local machines and internet.

>From a users perspective I don't care about what might be the correct
setup of the DNS-Servers (I cannot influence them) nor about personal
opinions on how it should be done. I need my system to work. I'm very
happy with Ubuntu, but this is a show stopper for me. I'll try to find a
work around as I could not find one above (why not this is about 3 years
old already). But if I cannot find one this will mean the end of ubuntu
on my company notebook.
